KEVORKIAN LAWYER QUITS AFTER SON’S REPRIMAND

DETROIT, June 30 (LSN) – Michael Odette, one of pro-suicide activist Jack Kevorkian’s lawyers, has resigned after pressure from his seven-year-old son. Although Odette maintains that he is sympathetic to Kevorkian’s cause, Kevorkian’s recent move to begin extracting organs from his victims entailed family repercussions for Odette.  Explaining his resignation Odette said, “after the organ deal, my 7-year-old son told me, ‘Dad, you shouldn’t represent him. They should throw him in jail and melt the key.’ ““You know, I’ve got a family to think about here. That kind of did it for me.”

ONTARIO GOVERNMENT TO INCLUDE ABSTINENCE IN NEW SEX ED CURRICULUM

TORONTO, June 29 (LSN) – Ontario’s Education Minister Dave Johnson unveiled the new Ontario sex education curriculum at a press conference today. According to the Canadian Press, teachers would not be forced, in the new curriculum, to teach abortion, contraception and homosexuality.  However, all teachers are required to teach abstinence which Johnson referred to as “a positive approach”.  Catholic teachers commented that if the initial reports are accurate, the new guidelines for sexual education allow for respect of Christian beliefs on abortion and homosexuality whereas the curriculum put out by the former NDP government in Ontario did not.

VANCOUVER HOSPITAL SEEKS BAN ON PRO-LIFE DEMONSTRATIONS

VANCOUVER, June 29 (LSN) – Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) has applied to the B.C. Ministry of Health to extend the province’s bubble-zone law to include the hospital. LISBON, Portugal, June 29 (LSN) – Yesterday, Portuguese voters rejected a bid to introduce abortion on demand in the largely Roman Catholic country. WASHINGTON, June 26 (LSN) – A pro-life victory in the US House of Representatives occurred Wednesday as the House voted 223-202 to forbid the use of taxpayer money to develop, test or approve abortion-inducing drugs. B.C. LOSES LAST ABORTION-FREE ZONE

KELWONA, June 19 (LSN) – At a meeting of the Okanagan-Similkameen Public Health Region on Wednesday,  vice-chair Ellen McRae announced that Kelwona General Hospital may begin committing abortions on January 1, 1999. CORONER ALLEGES KEVORKIAN VICTIM’S BODY “MUTILATED”

DETROIT, June 9 (LSN) – Oakland County medical examiner L.J. Dragovic says the body of Joseph Tushkowski,  a recent victim of Kevorkian-assisted-suicide, was mutilated. Dragovic also judged the death a homicide.  “They didn’t remove his sweater. KEVORKIAN OFFERS VICTIM’S ORGANS FOR TRANSPLANT

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., June 8 (LSN) – On Sunday, assisted-suicide pioneer Jack Kevorkian announced at a news conference that he had the kidneys of his most recent victim, Joseph Tushowski of Las Vegas, Nevada,  available for transplant. Kevorkian claimed to have received 20 calls from interested parties including three from doctors.  The Oakland County Medical Examiner’s office is looking into the situation. Flip Benham, national director of Operation Rescue, and another pro-life demonstrator, Tom McGlade, were arrested yesterday on allegations they violated a temporary Orlando city injunction which forbids pro-lifers to pray, sing and use amplification devices within 1,000 feet of abortuaries. The city obtained the injunction in anticipation of pro-life demonstrations against Disney,  for the corporation’s gay-friendly policies and products, and Barnes and Noble Booksellers, for selling books which many describe as “child pornography.”

Yesterday we reported Campaign Life Coalition was leading Ontario pro-life groups in lobbying the provincial government for conscience legislation and the de-funding of abortion. In fact, while CLC plays a crucial role in the movement for conscience legislation, it is the Coalition for Conscience, an umbrella organization of diverse individuals and groups working for the same end, which is leading the effort.  Also, many groups are currently lobbying for the defunding of abortion—notably, Ontarians for Ending Tax-  Funded Abortions, and the Knights of Columbus. CLC fully supports their efforts.
