FROM HOLLYWOOD TO PRO-LIFE

HOLLYWOOD, Jan 12 (LifeSiteNews.com) – An enterprising Internet speculator is attempting to humiliate Paramount Pictures by routing all visitors to a pro-life site devoted to ending partial-birth abortion. John Langley purchased the rights to the “varsityblues.com” domain name, pre-empting the company from doing so in order to promote its new movie Varsity Blues. Angered at Viacom’s (Paramount’s parent company) threats of legal action, Langley now sends people who are searching the Internet for Varsity Blues information to National Right to Life’s National Campaign to End Partial-Birth Abortions website. Langley offered to sell Viacom the domain name but said his proposal […]

CBC “DOCUMENTARY” ON ANTI-ABORTION VIOLENCE TO BE AIRED JANUARY 19

TORONTO, Jan 12 (LifeSiteNews.com) – For the last few months CBC television has been preparing a “documentary” on anti-abortion violence to be aired on The National on January 19. Pro-life leaders interviewed by CBC for the story say that the producers appear to have pre-judged the pro-life movement. Interviewees note that the interviewer was aggressive, and kept harping on the idea of guilt by association. Canada’s national Broadcasting Corporation has often been guilty of pro-abortion bias, however, at times it has reported pro-life issues fairly when other news agencies failed in this regard. It will be interesting to see if […]

PRO-LIFE POSTER VICTORY IN US SUPREME COURT

WASHINGTON, Jan 11 (LSN)  By rejecting an appeal today, the US Supreme Court upheld a lower court ruling which found the Philadelphia public transit authority guilty of violating First Amendment free-speech rights. The transit company had pulled pro-life ads from transit stations.  In 1995, the Virginia-based pro-life group, Christ’s Bride Ministries, contracted with the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) to display 4-by-5-foot posters which said “women who choose abortion suffer more & deadlier breast cancer.” One month after the posters went up (at a cost of $3,000 per month) SEPTA pulled them acting on the advice of a letter from […]

BELGIUM PROPOSES HUMAN EMBRYO EXPERIMENTATION

BRUSSELS, Jan 11 (LSN)  Last week the Belgian Minister of Health proposed creating different categories of human embryos to allow for freer experimentation. The proposal is “to protect the embryo ‘in vitro’,”  but to allow “the creation of human embryos destined, specifically, for scientific research.” The same fate would be destined for those embryos left over from artificial insemination. The Health Minister is apparently only concerned about protecting those embryos originally intended for implantation.  Zenit news notes that the proposal contravenes the European Convention on Bioethics, which in article 18,  specifically prohibits embryo experimentation. According to Zenit, the Council of […]

LIMA, Peru, Jan 11 (LSN)  Funded in part by the United Nations and the United States, the Peruvian government continues to implement a coercive population control program complete with forced sterilization. NO MODESTY LEFT IN CANADIAN SCHOOLS

TERRACE, B.C., Jan 8 (LifeSiteNews.com)  Following the recent adolescent “Spice Girl” craze, girls in public schools have taken to indecent exposure in the classroom. While this trend is well established across the country, very few school officials have the sense or courage to recognize and address the problem. (Of course they wouldn’t have to deal with the problem in many cases if it was first addressed in the students’ homes.) Objections are so infrequent as to make one attempt to curb the immodesty national news. CBC News reported this morning about Caledonia Senior Secondary School in British Colombia where Principal […]

TORIES TO END LEFT-WING BIAS AT TRILIUM?

TORONTO, Jan 8 (LifeSiteNews.com)  The Ontario Tory government is being accused by left-wing pundits of political interference in the Ontario Trillium Foundation—Canada’s largest fund granting charity—in an ongoing controversy over the departure of Trillium head, Julie White. Reform of the organization has been long needed, however, argue pro-life forces who found the organization biased. It consistently denied pro-life and pro-family grant applicants, while giving generously to abortion supporters. LSN sources indicate that Ms. White has personally endorsed the Anti Racist Action Group—a radical pro-abortion group which advocates violence. DON’T GIVE YOUR KIDS GOOSEBUMPS

CHILDREN’S BOOKS, Jan 7 (LifeSiteNews.com)  In a commentary yesterday, evangelical leader Chuck Colson warned parents against the “mega-selling Goosebumps books” by best-selling author R. L. Stine. Colson explains that the Goosebumps series is shock fiction which is very addictive to children since it gives “physical gratification, a bodily experience of accelerated pulse rates and queasy stomachs.” While some literary classics induce sometimes induce similar responses, they do not glamourize fear and horror. “By contrast,” says Colson, “in shock fiction, both the characters and narrative exist solely to support a series of shocks.” Thus the reading of such material becomes “a […]
