* In a press release Wednesday announcing funding for new alcohol and substance abuse programs in Ontario, federal Health Minister Allan Rock was quoted as saying: “We know the problems substance abuse causes in families, the scars it leaves on children before and after birth, and the tragic consequences it has for so many of our young people.” Usually when pro-abortion politicians refer to unborn babies as children instead of fetuses, it is inadvertent. Nevertheless, it is good to have the Health Minister on record recognizing the humanity of the unborn. * International Planned Parenthood Federation/Western Hemisphere Region, Inc. (IPPF/WHR) […]

VATICAN MISREPRESENTED IN COSTA RICA

VATICAN, July 30 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The Vatican has issued a statement correcting misinformation from the Costa Rican Episcopal Council which “impl[ies] that the Holy See is in agreement with the practice of indiscriminate sterilization,” reported Zenit news service on Wednesday. The Costa Rican statement which advocated “reproductive health” reforms, appealed to international forums to justify the need for changes, and simply made the statement that the Holy See had participated in them without clarifying which side of the issue the Vatican delegation was on. “Because of this press release, many Costa Ricans, both Catholics and non-Catholics, are contacting us, the […]

NEW ABORTIFACIENT COMING TO CANADA

OTTAWA, July 30 (LifeSiteNews.com) – America’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Plan B, the first progestin-only emergency contraceptive concoction. The pro-abortion Women’s Capital Corporation (WCC), which is the U.S. distributor for Plan B, praised the decision in a statement issued on Wednesday.  Sharon Camp, president of the organization, said: “We are really excited to be able to provide this important advance in emergency contraception to American women.” Although calling it an advance because it apparently causes less side-effects than other abortifacient mixtures, WCC admits that women could experience nausea, vomitting, lower abdominal pain,  fatigue, headaches, dizziness, breast tenderness, […]

STEM CELL BREAKTHROUGH; ETHICAL QUESTIONS REMAIN

OTTAWA, July 30 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The debate over the highly controversial use of stem cells in medical research has just become more urgent, according to the top story in the National Post today.  The paper reports on a study published in the latest issue of Science which announces a breakthrough that could lead to “new treatments for nerve disorders, such as Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis.” Stem cell research benefits from abortion because the strongest cells are found in embryonic cells. The U.S. has banned the use of taxpayer dollars for use in stem cell research, but private funds have […]

CRITICISM OF LIBERAL CHILD-CARE PLAN CONTINUES

OTTAWA, July 30 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Health Minister Allan Rock has denied claims that the Liberal government is planning to pour $15 billion into a massive child-care system, countering reports in yesterday’s National Post that stem from a leaked document produced by bureaucrats in Health Canada’s Childhood and Youth Division. A Health Canada press release claims: “The draft paper has not been subject to review, discussion or endorsement by senior Health Canada officials or the Minister, nor has it yet reached the stage of development for serious interdepartmental or intergovernmental discussions.” No matter where they come from, however, suggestions that the […]

LIBERAL BUREAUCRATS RECOMMEND UNIVERSAL DAYCARE

OTTAWA, July 29 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Liberals have once again raised the ire of pro-family Canadians, in particular, devoted parents. According to a story in the National Post today, a top proposal from a discussion paper put together by Health Canada’s Childhood and Youth Division,  includes a recommendation for universal daycare and kindergarten for children as young as three years of age. These recommendations, if implemented, would be part of a multi-billion dollar “child-care” system that the National Post says is being designed to offer Canadians a distinct alternative to the tax cut vision of the Reform Party. By introducing new […]

FORBES PREDICTS END OF ABORTION ON DEMAND

CAMPAIGN TOUR, July 29 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Republican Presidential nominee, Steve Forbes, predicted this week that the infamous Roe vs. Wade decision will shortly collapse. The U.S. Supreme Court decision in 1973 which opened the door to abortion on demand in America “has not withstood the test of time well,” he said, adding that only pro-life judges should be appointed to the bench. His judicial appointments would be based on a judge’s adherance to “the Constitution,  including the belief in the sanctity of life,” he said recently. Forbes is one of the most openly pro-life GOP nominees seeking to carry the […]

MORE PHARMACISTS REJECT MORNING-AFTER PILLS

OTTAWA, July 29 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A growing number of U.S. pharmacists are refusing to distribute abortifacients, reported The Washington Times yesterday, in an article about the morning-after concoction known as Preven. The report was very clear about the central role played by the controversy over the definition of pregnancy, quoting Preven supporters who see pregnancy beginning with implantation in the womb and citing the commitment of pro-life pharmacists to the historic medical view that pregnancy begins at conception. The decisions of pharmacists are not without consequence, claims Dr. Bogomir Kuhar, executive director of Pharmacists for Life International (PFLI), who told […]
