AMMAN, Dec 21, 2000 (LSN.ca) – Canada was a major sponsor of a lobbying effort in Jordan this week to get more nations to ratify the Rome Statute on the International Criminal Court. The Jordan Times reports that the four-day international lobby effort was funded by Canadian and Swiss embassies in Amman and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation of Germany. MEXICO CITY, Dec 21, 2000 (LSN.ca) – Outspoken pro-life Bishop Luis Reynoso Cervantes of Cuernavaca Mexico died Tuesday during back surgery. He was 74 years old. ROME, Dec 21, 2000 (LSN.ca) – Evangelical leader James Dobson, famous for his Focus on the Family organization radio broadcasts listened to by millions, praised pope John Paul II early this month. WASHINGTON, Dec 21, 2000 (LSN.ca) – A new Zogby American Values poll of 1,005 likely voters, conducted Dec. 15-17 shows 58% want the president to sign a bill banning partial birth abortion. The survey has a margin of sampling error of +/-3.2%. and is conducted quarterly. The poll also shows a slight majority (51%) in favour of school vouchers. SEOUL, Dec 20, 2000 (LSN.ca) – A government bill in South Korea proposes to ban human cloning completely. Church News reports today that the bill also prohibits medical and bioengineering research using human embryos, stressing that they should not be artificially reproduced except for reproduction. The bill also stipulates that an embryo’s genetic content should not be artificially changed or manipulated.
