OTTAWA, May 31, 2001 (LSN.ca) – The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada (EFC), an Ottawa-based alliance of 32 Protestant, evangelical churches and colleges, has endorsed civil disobedience against abortion and other moral evils as a justifiable Christian response under certain circumstances. LOS ANGELES, May 31, 2001 (LSN.ca) – A research team at the University of California has performed a transplant of cells from a heart-attack victim’s bicep muscle into his heart and the results look promising. Dr. Robb MacLellan, the group’s principal investigator, explained that skeletal muscle cells taken from the arm or leg may function in the same way as heart cells, hopefully one day making transplants unnecessary. The study, “The Impact of Abortion on Crime,” by John Donohue and Steve Levitt, was published in the May 2001 issue of the Quarterly Journal of Economics. WASHINGTON, May 30, 2001 (LSN.ca) – Former ‘Superman’ actor Christopher Reeve and seven scientists have launched a lawsuit against the Bush administration for halting funding for research involving the destructive use of human embryos. While the Bush administration has only put funding on hold by ordering a review of the issue, the scientists allege that the administration is causing “irreparable harm” and “preventing or delaying the advent of a cure for paralysis, Parkinson’s disease, diabetes and other debilitating conditions.” AP reports that the administration has less than 60 days to respond to the suit.
