A letter published in today’s Daily Telegraph by some of the UK’s leading doctors, questions whether guidelines from the General Medical Council (GMC) on “Withholding and Withdrawing Life-Prolonging Treatments” are even legal. The doctors, including Professor Peter Millard, an expert in geriatric medicine, wrote that the GMC process for drawing up the guidelines was closed and that many who had applied to attend were excluded. GENEVA, July 31, 2001 (LSN.ca) – The United Nations Human Rights Committee concluded its seventy-second session Friday and issued its final conclusions and recommendations on reports submitted to it by various countries including Guatemala. In its recommendations to Guatemala the Committee said Guatemala “must guarantee the right to the life of pregnant women who decide to interrupt their pregnancies” (UN euphemism for abortion). AYLMER, ON, July 30, 2001 (LSN.ca) – CTV News has reported that the 100+ congregants of the Church of God in Aylmer, Ontario who fled Canada fearing retribution from child welfare officials, may seek refugee status in the United States claiming religious persecution. The families fled after the children of one of the church families were seized by Children’s Aid Society officials. The children were taken after their parents refused to promise they would not spank their children with a switch.
