VATICAN MORAL THEOLOGIAN CONDEMNS HUMAN CLONING

VATICAN CITY, November 28, 2002 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The Vatican’s top moral theologian has condemned as “offensive” the possibility of human cloning. Father Gino Concetti was interviewed by reporters following Dr. Severino Antinori’s claim that the first human clone would be born next year – a claim Catholic sources view with skepticism.  “The church condemns human cloning as a method of procreation because it contradicts the Biblical principle of procreation through marriage,” Concetti said. “Human cloning directly offends the dignity of the human being and God’s plan for procreation,” he said, adding “[Antinori] has only hypothetical theories. So far, he has […]

POPULAR EVANGELICAL MINISTRY EXPELLS PASTOR FOR PRO-LIFE ACTIVISM

TULSA, November 28, 2002 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Rhema, an evangelical Christian ministry, has expelled a Wichita Kansas pastor from the ministry because of his pro-life activism.  Charisma News reports that Mark Holick had his ordination revoked this summer by the Oklahoma-based Rhema Ministerial Association International (RMAI).  “They [RMAI leaders] informed me that my wife, any of our church leaders, and myself could not for any reason go to any abortion clinic ever, not even to pray,” said Holick, 41.  Rhema’s Tulsa-based attorney, Tom Winters, told Charisma News Service that “Rhema is not for abortion.” Winters said he advised RMAI leaders to […]

U.S. PUBLIC OPINION TURNING AGAINST ABORTION

WASHINGTON, November 28, 2002 (LifeSiteNews.com) – More than one-fifth or 22% of Americans in a nationwide Buffalo News/Zogby poll of 1,009 people say they are “less” in favor of abortion today than they were 10 years ago—twice the number (11 percent) who say they’ve become more pro-choice.  Among the other findings were that young people tend to be more opposed to abortion than the baby boomer generation (one-third of people aged 18 to 29 said abortion should never be legal, in contrast to about 23 percent for those aged 30 to 64 and about 20 percent for those aged 65+); […]

B.C. TEACHER’S UNION CAUGHT IN FREE SPEECH HYPOCRISY

QUESNEL, B.C., November 27, 2002 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The lawyer for Chris Kempling, the B.C. public school teacher now being persecuted by his own union for private opinions expressed in letters to the editor of the local newspaper, told a B.C. College of Teachers (BCCT) hearing last Monday that there is no evidence Kempling “poisoned the atmosphere in his classrooms.”  Because Kempling’s letters were critical of the homosexual agenda, the usual defenders of free speech have kept their distance. The B.C. Civil Liberties Association is standing aloof. Kempling’s union, the B.C. Teachers’ Federation (BCTF), are paying only half of his legal […]

ROME, November 27, 2002 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Two Italian doctors were sentenced to 20 years in prison Monday for performing illegal abortions.  Doctors Ilio Spallone and his nephew Marcello Spallone were convicted for doing late term abortions beyond the 90 days of gestation during which abortion on demand is decriminalized.  The 12 abortions in question were committed between 1995 and 1997.  Agence France Presse reports that an obstetrician involved in the abortions was given a 14-year term in prison, while an anesthetist and a secretary each received 12-year terms. A total of 67 people were charged in the case, with the […]
