Women will now be protected from the added pressure of financial obligation when making a decision about an unplanned […]

PRO-LIFE T-SHIRT DAY A HUGE SUCCESS DESPITE SOME SPOILSPORT PRINCIPALS

WASHINGTON, DC – This past Monday, thousands of youth participated in the first-ever National Pro-Life T-shirt Day, an event organized by Rock For Life. Young people from all over the country – mostly students at public schools – had been eagerly anticipating the opportunity to simply wear a pro-life T-shirt as a peaceful statement of support for the pro-life movement.  “We are absolutely thrilled that these young people participated in this event,” said Sara McKalips of Rock For Life.  “We are encouraged that so many are willing to speak up peacefully for the rights of pre-born people.”  Over the past […]

PARTIAL CLONING BAN WITH 8 YEAR PRISON PENALTY COMING IN SLOVAKIA

BRATISLAVA, April 30, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A draft rewrite of Slovakia’s criminal law agreed to by the country’s legal cabinet committee April 15 would see some human reproductive and therapeutic cloning banned. Violators would face up to eight years in prison.  However, the legislation as described by local media covers only cloning which results in humans at any stage of development which are “genetically identical” to another human being.  Experts in the field have warned for years that such terminology would fail to ban all cloning procedures since several do not create “genetically identical” copies of other human beings.  See […]

POPE DECRIES ATTEMPT TO EXCLUDE BIBLICAL MORALS FROM BIBLICAL STUDY

VATICAN CITY, April 30, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Speaking yesterday to members of the Pontifical Biblical Commission and their president, Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, Pope John Paul II spoke about the theme of the gathering, “The Bible and Morals”.  He said: “Everyone can see that there is a paradox: man today, disillusioned by so many unsatisfactory answers to the basic questions about life, seems to open himself to the voice that comes from the Transcendent Being and is expressed in the bible message. At the same time, however, he seems to be more and more intolerant of being asked to behave in […]

OTTAWA, April 30, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The latest information on Canada’s Assisted Human Reproduction Act, Bill C-13 is that the Rob Merrifield motion to send the bill back to committee was voted down yesterday but no further debate on the bill took place yesterday or today.  The motion, which would have allowed for revision of the fatally flawed bill within committee, failed with a lopsided vote of 60-170.  See the recorded vote on the motion:  https://www.parl.gc.ca/37/2/parlbus/chambus/house/debates/091_2003-04-29/HAN091-E.htm#Int-517284

SWISS BISHOPS SUCCEED IN GETTING ANTI-CATHOLIC ADS PULLED

BERN, April 29, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) – An anti-HIV/AIDS advertising campaign in Switzerland that uses anti-Catholic messaging has been shelved, apparently out of respect for the country’s 3.3 million Catholics, almost half of the 7.3 million population. According to government spokesmen, the objections of Catholic bishops influenced the decision to pull the ads. One poster in German said: “Dear Father, if Rome doesn’t want you to talk about contraception, then talk about condoms instead.”  A spokesman said cryptically, “We had intensive talks with the Bishop’s conference, and agreed to drop that part of the campaign because we had used the word […]

HUNGARY’S TOP COURT REJECTS ASSISTED SUICIDE

BUDAPEST, April 29, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Hungary’s constitutional court has rejected a bid to legalize assisted suicide, on grounds that terminally ill patients can already refuse medical care, under the country’s so-called “passive euthanasia” laws, if they wish.  “The current state of affairs is not unconstitutional,” said presiding judge Janos Nemeth. “We have considered international examples and euthanasia has only been made legal recently in Belgium, in the Netherlands and in a state in the United States [Oregon].” He said the foreign examples did not make a convincing case for adopting the practice in Hungary.  For newswire coverage:  https://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/20030428/hl_afp/hungary_euthanasia_030428140953
