ORLANDO, June 2, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Florida Gov. Jeb Bush’s struggle to have a separate guardian appointed for the unborn baby of a mentally handicapped rape victim, as well as a guardian for the mother who does not have a guardian either, is going ahead. Having last month overruled so-called “child welfare” officials who claimed such an appointment would be “illegal,” Bush went ahead with the attempt.  “Given the facts of this case, it is entirely appropriate that an advocate be appointed to represent the unborn child’s best interests in all decisions,” Bush said. The state’s motion notes that the […]

Ireland Opposes Ban On All Human Cloning – Ignores Pro-Life Constitution

DUBLIN, June 2, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) – In a shocking move, the supposedly pro-life government of Ireland has opposed a European Parliament motion to ban all human cloning, including for ‘therapeutic’ purposes.  Initially the Irish government had backed the measure. An Irish Department of Health spokesman said that the government was opposed to reproductive cloning but was concerned that a ban on therapeutic cloning would hamper potentially beneficial research.  Dana Rosemary Scallon, the Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from Ireland, charged that “The new Irish position is clearly in conflict with our constitutional protection of life from conception.”  Green Party […]
