Texas Bishop Bishops Must Deny Communion to Pro-Abortion Politicians

CORPUS CHRISTI, September 27, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) -The excuses for unwillingness to deny communion to pro-abortion politicians are debunked in an article submitted to LifeSiteNews.com by Bishop Rene Henry Gracida, Bishop Emeritus of Corpus Christi Texas. In his article, Bishop Gracida notes that the Vatican has already ruled authoritatively on the question of denying communion.  “According to the Pontifical Council for Legislative Texts in that Council’s June 24, 2000 Declaration on the question: ‘Should a priest deny Communion to a Catholic who is an obstinate public sinner?’ The answer is ‘yes,’” writes Bishop Gracida.  The Church’s Code of Canon Law (can. Ontario’s Tab for Late-Term Abortions: $400,000 for One Year

OTTAWA, September 28, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Ontario taxpayers paid $400,000 last year to send 56 women to the United States for late term abortions, reports Life Canada, the educational arm of the pro-life movement in Canada.  The Ontario Ministry of Health admitted the figures after stories last week claimed 15 women were sent from Ontario and 30 from Quebec. The new information shows that each abortion costs taxpayers an average of $7000.00.  The government’s proposed solution is to open and fund a late-term abortions private clinic in Quebec, suggesting it would be easier to have such abortions committed in Canada. WASHINGTON, September 28, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The U.S. Department of Justice announced Tuesday that it would appeal the latest of three court decision declaring the ban on the barbaric practice of partial-birth abortion unconstitutional.  U.S. District Judge Richard Kopf in Lincoln Nebraska handed down the ruling now being appealed.  In a decision handed down in early September, Kopf ruled that the law banning partial birth abortion is unconstitutional because it does not include an exception for the ‘health of the mother.’ The law contains a clause for exceptions for the ‘life’ of the mother but not her health. Vatican’s Cardinal Sodano Awards Pro-Abortion Politician Papal Knighthood

NEW YORK, September 27, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) –  John Allen, the Rome correspondent for the National Catholic Reporter reports that Julian Hunte, a pro-abortion Catholic politician in the West Indies, was made a Knight of the Grand Cross Pian Order by Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Angelo Sodano.  The honor was bestowed as Hunte completed his term as president of the United Nations General Assembly.  The honor which was presented in New York is especially controversial in light of Vatican approved US Conference of Bishops regulations which prohibit honors being given to pro-abortion policians. Clinton uses Scripture to Attack Pro-Life Republican Platform in Homily

NEW YORK, September 27, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Former U.S. president Bill Clinton used Scripture to imply that the pro-life stance is not explicit in the Bible. Clinton attacked the Republican Party for its pro-life position in an address to a left-wing congregation of New York’s Riverside Church during the Republican National Convention in August.  During his address, Clinton avoided the conundrum imposed by the IRS against churches endorsing specific candidates or parties by saying “I like Senator Kerry,” and then stating his reasons.  Associated Press writer Richard N. Ostling gave a sample of Clinton’s homily in a column appearing in […]
