Irish Who Voted Against Lisbon Treaty Had Abortion Fears in Mind

By Hilary White DUBLIN, June 27, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Despite surveys that discounted the issue in the recent Irish referendum, new polling has found that abortion was a significant factor in the rejection of the European Union’s Lisbon Treaty. In the weeks following the referendum on June 12, European lawmakers and EU diplomats have speculated that if only the real reason could be found for the Irish rejection, appropriate changes could be made to render the Treaty more palatable for a second vote. Pressure is increasing on the Irish government to hold another vote next spring to bring back the […]

Barack Obama is being taken to task for his recent Father’s Day message in which he said that fatherhood begins at conception. A pro-family group says Obama’s seemingly “pro-family” statements stand in a stark, disturbing contrast to his radical support for abortion, which is anything but “pro-family.” The 30-second television ad by Family Research Council’s lobbying arm, FRC Action, airs today in several cities across the United States. The ad begins with a clip of Obama’s recent Father’s Day speech at a Chicago Church in […]

Comments on June 26 LifeSiteNews Reports

Dear Readers,    Quite a variety of stories today. Among many other issues, LifeSiteNews has emphasized reporting on the advances of the homosexual movement since our very beginning in 1997. More than a few readers strenuously objected to the focus as being misplaced beside pro-life stories and too alarmist. However, all we have done is report the facts with relatively little editorializing.   Now, over 10 years later, almost every pro-life and pro-family organization has finally caught on that there is an international radicalization of family, moral and even religious and political life linked with the advances of the homosexual, […]

The girl, nicknamed “Agata” by the media, first revealed her pregnancy to her parents, who soon after contacted Planned Parenthood. Agata was then pressured by Poland’s most prominent abortion activist, Wanda Nowicka of the Polish branch of Planned Parenthood, to abort the child. The Polish major daily “Gazeta Wyborcza”, also jumped on the abortion bandwagon, claiming pro-life activists were harassing Agata in attempts to save the life of the […]

By Tim Waggoner WASHINGTON, June 18, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A recent trend involving pro-life pharmacies opening up across the U.S. has sparked a debate about the relationship between employees’ consciences and patients’ rights. Pro-life pharmacies have surfaced in response to the growing amount of abuse received by pharmacists who have refused to fill prescriptions for life-stopping medication or products, such as contraception and condoms, because doing so would conflict with their consciences. As reported by the Washington Post, Karen Bauer, president of Pharmacies for Life, stated that these pharmacies allow a “pharmacist who does not wish to be involved in […]

By Hilary White June 11, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A study purporting to disprove the causal link between abortion and breast cancer is rife with errors of fact and methodology, a research organization says. The flaws and omissions are serious enough, one group says, that the study is being denounced as “fraudulent” and an openly biased attempt to discredit the evidence showing the link. “This fraudulent study provides further strong evidence of the continuing, wilful misrepresentation by prominent scientists of the well-established link between abortion and breast cancer,” said Joel Brind, Ph.D., president of the Breast Cancer Prevention Institute (BCPI). By Hilary White DUBLIN, June 5, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The Irish Referendum Commission has declared that ratification of the new European Constitution, now being called the Lisbon Treaty, will not lead to the country being forced to legalize abortion. The Commission has been accused by groups promoting greater democracy in the EU of misrepresenting the facts. The commission chairman Mr. Justice Iarfhlaith O’Neill said Ireland would not be forced to end its prohibition on abortion if the treaty is passed as Article 43.3 of the Irish Constitution is protected under EU law. But other national leaders in the EU have […]

Comments on June 4 News

Dear Readers,   There is plenty of important news to report today.   The story about the Halton (near Toronto) Catholic School Board decision to reverse its Gardasil HPV vaccine policy is exceptional news. It is very unusual for elected officials to admit to having made an error of judgment and to vote to reverse their previous very public decision. That takes genuine humility and class. Especially worthy of praise is trustee Joanne Matters who was most responsible for the boards action.   There is much more that can be said about the rest of the news but this is […]

By Thaddeus M. Baklinski CANBERRA, AU, June 4, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) – There are two countries in the world, Australia and the USA, that refuse to allow their foreign aid monies to be used to fund abortion in developing nations. Now the Australian Labour government under Prime Minister Kevin Rudd is reconsidering its country’s position. Australia’s ban on aid money being spent on abortion was established 12 years ago by the former conservative government led by John Howard, who was a close ally of the US. In 2001, US President George Bush banned funding to international family planning groups that offered […]

By Peter J. Smith DENVER, Colorado, June 4, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) – As the dust settles from last night’s final two primary battles for the Democratic presidential nomination, Sen. Barack Obama stands victorious over Sen. Hillary Clinton, having wrested from her the party’s pro-abortion, pro-homosexual mantle after a long and bitter campaign. Clinton in South Dakota was followed with a resounding victory in Montana just hours later. Obama has now won 2166 delegates to Clinton’s 1927 according to a […]

Chicago Cardinal George Removes Obama-Crazed Pastor from Parish

By Peter J. Smith CHICAGO, Illinois, June 4, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The Catholic Archbishop of Chicago has relieved temporarily the outspoken Rev. Michael Pfleger from his parish duties after the Catholic priest’s sermon mocking Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton at rival Barack Obama’s former church drew nationwide attention. For nearly 27 years Rev. Pfleger had worked as the controversial pastor of the predominately black parish of St. Sabina’s on Chicago’s south-side, when Francis Cardinal George, Chicago’s Archbishop, ordered him to take a leave of absence. Cardinal George and Rev. Pfleger have been at an impasse for years over the priest’s […]

California Supreme Court Refuses to Stay Same-Sex “Marriage” Decision

San Francisco, CA , June 4, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Today the California Supreme Court, by a 4-3 vote, denied the Petition for Stay and for Rehearing in the California marriage cases. This past May 15 the Supreme Court ruled in those cases to allow same-sex “marriages” in the state to go forward, despite the fact that the contentious issue is slated to come before California voters in the form of a vote on a constitutional amendment during this November’s election. Several conservative organizations, however, petitioned to have last month’s decision put on hold until the November referendum. Today’s decision to deny the petition was […]

By Peter J. Smith WASHINGTON, D.C., June 4, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Long-time homosexual activist Frank Kameny’s claim to fame is successfully manipulating the American Psychiatric Association into declassifying homosexuality as a mental disorder, and today the Smithsonian honoree is now busily advocating bestiality “as long as the animal doesn’t mind.” Kameny, 83, has had a long career advocating the removal of any restrictions on human acts long considered by sane societies as obscene, dangerous, and disordered. However the octogenarian has a new mission to complement his current campaign to pressure the APA to ban reparative therapy for homosexuals. Kameny describes his […]

Comments on June 3rd news

Dear readers,   Today’s news brings us positive developments in California, Canada (HPV story) and Cuba of all places.   The ongoing saga of Canada’s completely out of control human rights commissions has now qualified the country to be given the same label as Britain – loonie. It is beyond belief.   The pathetic impotence of Canada’s federal and provincial governments – who are the ones who created the human rights commissions mess and are the only ones who can end it – is also beyond belief. They either support what is going or, such as the federal Conservative government. […]

By Peter J. Smith   BIRMINGHAM, United Kingdom, June 2, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) – UK police have refused to apologise for the actions of a Muslim community support officer, who threatened to arrest two Christian ministers for “hate crimes,” because they were preaching Christianity in a Muslim area according to British media reports.   Christian ministers Arthur Cunningham, 48, and Joseph Abraham, 65, were handing out leaflets and speaking with four Muslim youths about Christianity in Birmingham on February 19, when Naeem Naguthney, 30, a Muslim police community support officer (PCSO) told them to cease-and-desist from preaching to Muslims. “He said […]
