Letters to the Editor March 11, 2009

RE: Choice and Personhood Dear Editor, I’ll tell you what is self-righteous bigotry, hypocrisy, and downright arrogance. Science can tell us that a fossilized dinosaur lived 65 million years ago and can name it by genus and specie and yet we have a hard time understanding that a human embryo is a human being within a nine month period. Science and law tell us that eagle eggs and eagle embryos are eagles, so much so, that we made a law to make sure they don’t go extinct. Science tells us that you don’t get eagles from chicken embryos or chicken eggs. There is […]

Orange County Supervisors Terminate Planned Parenthood Funding

By Kathleen Gilbert ORANGE COUNTY, California, March 11, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) – All five members of the Orange County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to cancel a health education contract with the local Planned Parenthood, cutting about $300,000 from the group. Each supervisor cited an objection to abortion as the motive behind the vote.  Planned Parenthood is the nation’s leading provider of abortions. “Not to generalize, but when you contact a law firm that specializes in bankruptcies, they most likely will advise you to file for bankruptcy,” Supervisor John Moorlach wrote in an email to constituents. “If you go to Planned […]

California Initiative Proposes Abolishing All Marriage from Law

By Kathleen Gilbert SACRAMENTO, March 11, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) – California same-sex “marriage” supporters are collecting signatures to support a ballot initiative that would remove civil marriage from California law entirely, as well as the provision codifying marriage as between a man and a woman. The “Domestic Partnership Initiative” proposes to categorize all unions simply as “domestic partnerships,” while retaining all the rights of marriage for heterosexual couples, and extending them to homosexual couples.  According to the initiative’s summary, “Legally speaking, ‘Marriage’ itself would become a social ceremony, recognized by only non-governmental institutions.” State Attorney General Jerry Brown submitted the official […]

Connecticut’s Same-Sex “Marriage” Bill Would Deny Conscience Rights

By Kathleen Gilbert HARTFORD, Connecticut, March 11, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Connecticut legislators are considering a bill that would codify the state Supreme Court’s decision recognizing same-sex “marriage.”  But pro-family advocates are warning that the current form of the bill opens the way to homosexualist curriculum in schools, affirmative-action style legislation based on sexual orientation, and penalties for those who refuse to facilitate same-sex “marriages.” Senate bill 899 implements “the guarantee of equal protection under the Constitution of the state for same-sex couples,” as introduced by four Supreme Court judges in October.  One part of the new legislation repeals Sec. 46a-81r […]

Commentary: Obama’s Murderous Executive Order – What Should Science Trump?

Commentary by Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted March 11, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) – On Monday, March 9, President Obama signed an executive order that provides federal funding of embryonic stem cell research. This means that American taxpayers will now be paying for the killing of human beings at a very early stage in their lives (as embryos), so that scientific research can make use of them for experiments that may or may not yield positive results. We U.S. taxpayers will now be forced to pay, whether we wish to or not, for the killing of our youngest brothers and sisters on the […]

Bishop: “President Obama is forcing all American taxpayers to pay for this homicidal research”

By John-Henry Westen PHOENIX, March 11, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The Bishop of Phoenix in Arizona has written a straight-talking column responding to President Barack Obama’s executive order providing federal funding for embryonic stem cell research.  “This means that American taxpayers will now be paying for the killing of human beings at a very early stage in their lives (as embryos), so that scientific research can make use of them for experiments that may or may not yield positive results,” writes Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted in his diocesan newspaper, the Catholic Sun. Unwilling to sugar-coat the reality with polite euphemisms, Bishop […]

Lawsuit Filed after College Students Threatened with Expulsion for ‘Discriminatory’ Pro-Life Message

SPOKANE, WA, March 11, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Attorneys with the Alliance Defense Fund Center for Academic Freedom filed a lawsuit Monday against Community Colleges of Spokane and Spokane Falls Community College officials for allegedly violating the constitutional rights of pro-life students.  Earlier this year SFCC officials threatened Beth Sheeran and members of a Christian student group with disciplinary measures, including expulsion, if they chose to hold a pro-life event on campus to share information with other students because the message was “discriminatory” and did not include a pro-abortion viewpoint. SFCC Director of Student Funded Programs Heather McKenzie rejected Sheeran’s request […]
