Abortion pictures change minds – and here’s the proof

Today I want to share with you the following email I received from a pro-abortion person who visited our website and saw the pictures of aborted babies. She wrote: “I have been a pro abortion catholic… After seeing the pictures of what it exactly was, I nearly cried thinking I supported this awful murder. I ask Jesus my Christ to forgive my past way of thinking. I finally ‘get it.’ This is pure murder. I pray that more people will get to know what it is they are supporting.” The person then signed the letter with the pen name, “My […]

Man, 27, battles hospital to remove ventilator

I have just received a link to an article by Tia Ghose and published in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. The article is about a very difficult case in Antioch Illinois concerning Dan Crews (27), who was paralyzed in a car crash at age 3 and reportedly wants to die by the withdrawal of his ventilator. Crews is ventilator dependent and has been petitioning the Froedtert Hospital to withdraw his ventilator. Crews states that: “He is physically incapable of ending his life.” But the facts of the case are a little different. First: Crews has the right to refuse medical treatment, […]

Did our porn culture allow the intrusive airport frisk?

Running into the obscene frisking stories circulating the media had me wondering about the slowness of the American people to react with total outrage to the intrusive searching at airports.  Is it perhaps that our pornified culture is so used to sexual acts being foisted on us that a routing grope is just another thing to be accepted? Watching people engage in sexual encounters has become routine on television shows, movies, music videos, commercials, billboards and mobile phones. Surely watching someone get politely molested at an airport can’t arouse the same outrage as it once would have.

What did your parish do for the pope’s pro-life vigil?

This past Sunday I had a very unique experience at my parish in a small town in Northern Ontario. Just before the conclusion of Mass and the final prayer the altar was cleared, the monstrance was brought out, and the entire parish proceeded to participate in formal Eucharistic Adoration – for the intention of “all nascent human life.” This unusual event happened thanks to the call of Pope Benedict XVI, who earlier this year sent out a letter to every diocese on the globe, asking Catholics worldwide to join him in a pro-life vigil on the weekend of Saturday, Nov. […]

A Thanksgiving pro-life story: the archbishop and the adoption

Enjoy this beautiful Thanksgiving story courtesy of Wisconsin Right to Life’s “Pass This On” series: When a Wisconsin mother learns that her unborn daughter is disabled, her doctor pressures her to abort her and ease the stress on their family, which already cares for a severely disabled child.  But with miraculous help from future New York Archbishop (and USCCB President-to-be) Timothy Dolan, the mother chooses life – and makes an infertile couple’s dreams come true.

Why are so many of the professional jobs in the Church held by dissidents?

Writing in the pages of the Catholic Register this week, Fr. Raymond J. de Souza makes a very interesting observation and commentary on one of the reflections of the Pope in the new book “Light of the World.” Speaking of the governing institutions in the Church, Pope Benedict said “The bureaucracy is spent and tired … It is sad that there are what you might call professional Catholics who make a living on their Catholicism, but in whom the spring of faith flows only faintly, in a few scattered drops.” Commenting on the Pope’s remark, Fr. de Souza observes: It […]

On Thanksgiving, Obama thanks ‘choices,’ not God

Last year, I took issue with the fact that Barack Obama’s Thanksgiving proclamation was the first in US history to mention God only obliquely, and otherwise could have been delivered by an atheist. Considering that the Thanksgiving proclamation is perhaps the clearest governmental tradition by which America’s religious roots are acknowledged, it was a subtle shift worth noting, particularly for a figure who seems to have trouble convincing people that he belongs to the faith he says he does. Obama’s Thanksgiving proclamation this year, fortunately, is much more God-laden than the last. However, in his “Thanksgiving greeting,” our president largely […]

The issue of abortion is not abstract. It’s about living or dying.

In the course of my full time travels around the country for the cause of life, I recently met a woman who said to me, “I am alive because my mom changed her mind. She wanted to abort me but my dad talked her out of it. When she married another man and got pregnant, my only sibling was aborted.” People like her have a lot to be thankful for. So many others I meet explain how they too were almost aborted. The issue of abortion is not abstract. It’s about living or dying, surviving or being murdered. And it […]

Euthanasia bill defeated in South Australia, euthanasia lobby suggests another bill next year

The Parnell/Key euthanasia bill was defeated in the South Australian legislature on Wednesday, November 24, by the voice vote. Parnell pulled the bill from receiving a final vote but admitted that the bill was probably going to be defeated by a vote of 12 to 9. After the bill was defeated it was suggested that another bill will be brought before the legislature next year. This is a significant victory. Last year a similar bill was defeated by a vote of 11 to 9. Since then, South Australia had elections that resulted in 3 of the 11 members who opposed […]

French teacher suspended for showing video of abortions to high school students

MANOSQUE, France, November 24, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A French high school teacher in the southern region of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence has been suspended from his teaching position for showing his students a video that includes footage of real late-term abortions performed at a Spanish facility. The teacher, a civics instructor at Iscles High School in the city of Manosque, reportedly followed the video presentation with a pamphlet distributed to the students which denounces France’s Veil Law, that legalized abortion in 1975. He also held a discussion following the viewing. The video, was apparently a French-subtitled version of a news report by an […]

The ‘new evangelization’ and the culture of life

On September 21, 2010, the Holy Father announced officially the creation of a new agency at the Vatican called The Pontifical Council for Promoting the New Evangelization. The term “New Evangelization” refers to the need to re-announce the Gospel in those parts of the world where, although the Church has been established for a long time, society has become secularized and people have drifted from the Faith. It is not a new message that the New Evangelization brings, but rather a new vigor, new methods, and new applications to the problems of today. Indeed, widespread legal abortion is one of […]

Who should we really be talking to about abortion?

Did you know that 46% of all abortions are performed on college-aged women?  Did you also know that most people’s views on abortion are decided during their college years? The most important discussions regarding abortion and the message of Life need to occur on college campuses.  Creating this conversation can give hope to a young woman facing an unexpected pregnancy or change a student’s view of human rights to include preborn children. Bringing this discussion to those most likely to have an abortion and to those whose opinions are being formed on the issue is exactly the mission of Students […]

Australian euthanasia bills designed to eliminate the disabled, sick

Update: the euthanasia bill was defeated in the South Australian parliament. Today there will be a debate and vote on the Parnell/Key euthanasia bills in South Australia. These bills are identical, one being in the upper house and one in the lower house. The Parnell/Key bills are deceptively titled: Consent to Medical Treatment and Palliative Care (End of Life Arrangements) Amendment Bill 2010. What these bills do is they legalize euthanasia in South Australia by amending the Consent to Medical Treatment and Palliative Care Act 1995. Legalizing euthanasia means that the law will allow a physician to directly and intentionally […]

This past weekend, the world witnessed the greatest and most damaging incident of Vatican media incompetence that has probably ever happened. Phil Lawler, Director of CatholicCulture.org, is one of the more trustworthy and experienced commentators on Catholic controversies. Lawler lays the blame for what has happened largely on L’Osservatore Romano. In his article, “The Vatican newspaper has betrayed the Pope” Lawler bluntly states, “Yet again, Pope Benedict has […]

Famous late-term abortionist admits pro-life laws make a difference

Sometimes people have questioned how effective incremental pro-life legislation really is. It’s true that the relation between laws passed and lives saved can seem distant from each other. Years can pass before things really change. However, the moving plans of infamous, late-term abortionist LeRoy Carhart prove laws can make a difference. Dr. Carhart has been performing abortions full-time in Nebraska for nearly two decades, becoming well-known as the lead plaintiff against the Nebraska partial-birth abortion ban which was struck down by the Supreme Court in 2000. He returned to the Court in 2007 to fight the federal PBA ban, this […]

The reality behind the rhetoric – ‘Have you ever seen an abortion?’

One of the best ways to see how to violate all the rules of logic is to examine the arguments – if you can call them arguments at all – of those who try to defend abortion. First of all, the last thing they want to talk about is the very thing they try to defend, namely, abortion. They will talk about choice, freedom, the Constitution, the Church, women’s rights and sometimes, women’s health. But they won’t define or describe abortion itself. The reason is simple. Abortion cannot be defended. As soon as it is described, or viewed, the human […]

By John Jalsevac November 2, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Republicans are one step closer to a possible takeover of the U.S. Senate with the election of Rand Paul in the state of Kentucky, part of what Paul tonight labeled a “Tea Party tidal wave.” The victory for Paul, who has declared himself to be unequivocally, 100% pro-life, also bodes well for pro-life activists, who are hoping that Tuesday’s election will put an end to any hopes of President Obama to further a radical pro-abortion agenda. Republican Senate Hopes Dim as West Virginia Senate Seat Goes to Pro-Life Dem Manchin

By Peter J. Smith CHARLESTON, West Virginia, November 2, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Pro-life Gov. Joe Manchin III has bested pro-life Republican challenger John Raese in the special election for U.S. Senate. Manchin (D) carried West Virginia with 53 percent of the vote, while Raese came short at 44 percent, with 90 percent of precincts reporting. Manchin’s win makes it unlikely the GOP will gain the 10 pickups they needed to seize control of the U.S. Senate chamber. Ordinarily the race would have been a slam-dunk for a Democrat, especially for Manchin, who has enjoyed enormous popularity in the state. But […]

Commentary on Nov. 1 News

Tuesday marks the most critical of mid-term elections in recent US history. That is, the very future of the United States as a viable social, political and economic nation may be in great danger unless there is a dramatic change tomorrow from its current political leadership. Frank Pavone of Priests for Life emphasizes that Americans ”have a moral obligation to vote in such a way that will do the most to advance the culture of life.” In John Jalsevac's report, AUL's Bill Saunders reveals that polls indicate Americans are aware of the need for […]
