Baby Joseph was NOT in a ‘persistent vegetative state’

On September 27, 2011, Joseph Maraachli, better known as baby Joseph, peacefully died at home with his family caring for him in Windsor Ontario Canada. Some of the articles about the baby Joseph case referred to him as being in a Persistent Vegetative State (PVS). Baby Joseph was not in a “PVS” or brain dead condition, but rather he was living with a neurological condition that resulted in him dying a natural death. The baby Joseph case gained international attention when Children’s Hospital in London Ontario decided to remove the ventilator from Joseph against his parents wishes. Moe & Sana […]

Catholics for Choice on abortion mandate: bishops have no say because they don’t have sex

When it comes to the government mandate that all private health plans cover birth control that can also cause abortions with no co-pay, Jon O’Brien of Catholics for Choice opines that “religious discrimination is wrong.” But the pro-abortion leader, writing in an op-ed for The Hill on Friday, means something a little different from when the bishops say it. As it turns out, “discriminating” religious people as exempt from forced participation in abortions is what’s the matter. Therefore, far from needing more conscience protections, O’Brien writes, “the otherwise sound regulation goes awry” because it acknowledges any conscience rights at all: […]

Official Statement on Protests by Fr Frank Pavone

I’m here in Amarillo and every few seconds some message of support comes in via e-mail, text, or phone. I’ve spent the last 20 years building up relationships with pro-life activists throughout the nation and around the world, and I can tell you it’s enormously gratifying to me to have such a wide array of friends. As I have said in previous interviews (e.g. Al Kresta), I would not presume to tell others how to exercise their expressive rights under the U.S. Constitution, but I want to encourage everyone in this great pro-life movement of ours to continue to be […]

The stigma of the abortionist

Jill Stanek carries the following quote from the rabidly proabort website, RH Reality Check, on her blog. Below is the quote and my response left at Jill’s. Professional obstacles cited by physicians [who perform abortions] included workplaces with an anti-abortion climate; the surprisingly widespread “no-abortion policies” that quietly exist in many private practices, HMOs, and hospitals across the country; the risk of being pigeonholed as just an abortion provider; and the risk of being ostracized by the local medical community and patient population. On a more personal level, some physicians worried that providing abortions would cause their families to suffer […]

Contrary to claims, euthanasia activist does not have approval to import lethal drug into Australia

In the past few days, Philip Nitschke, Australia’s Dr. Death, has been claiming that he has received permission from Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) to import Nembutal, a drug used by veterinarians for large animal euthanasia, for human euthanasia use. Nitschke claims that he found a loophole in the TGA rules that would allow him to import the lethal drug. Paul Russell, the founder of HOPE Australia, received information from the TGA that indicated that Nitschke had not been given approval to import the lethal drug. Yesterday, the Sydney Morning Herald confirmed the report from Paul Russell in an article […]

Tragic suicide of 11 year old boy needs to lead to more awareness about suicide prevention

I just read the tragic story of the suicide death of 11-year-old Mitchell Wilson, who was living with Muscular Dystrophy. Mitchell was bullied and beat-up by older boys. It is tragic that Mitchell suffered so greatly by the destructive attitudes of other people who took advantage of Mitchell’s disability and treated him in such a destructive manner. People need to know about an excellent resource that exists for people who show signs of being suicidal. Your Life Counts is a great service that cares and is truly life-affirming. Lawmaker arguing for abortion: ‘we have to quit trying to be Jesus’

Who of us to judge and cast the first rock? Who lives in a glass house?” asked Rep. Church members go ballistic over graphic abortion display

After a summer hiatus, Todd Bullis and his group of Christian pro-life activists resumed what they call the “Church Project,” an effort to awaken Ventura, CA, church congregants to the reality of abortion through graphic displays on Sunday mornings. Todd’s effort has been educational for me. He chooses churches with no demonstrable evidence that they are pro-life, even though they say they are. To date one hostile church member has hosed him and neighbors have blocked his Truth Truck. Todd has had to call police several times to intervene. The uproar ensuing upon Todd’s arrival was no different this week. […]

Why are there always rainbow flags at pro-abortion rallies?

In January of last year, I appeared on Global Television talking about the blatant conflict of interest arising from the recent election of 21-year old Paul Marai, given that he was also an openly gay, homosexual activist, and his newly appointed Catholic School Board Trustee position. A few seconds (literally) after the interview was shown, I received an e-mail via Facebook entitled “F*%&$ Yourself”. “Gain some rationality”, the author said. “You’re embarassing (yes, he spelled it that way) your intellect on TV. Learn a thing or two in school before you call homosexuality a disorder. You’re officially the joke of […]

Brad Mattes statement on Fr. Pavone

As a pro-life leader with the distinct honor of working for decades in the effort to end abortion, I’m always saddened to read of scandal within the movement.  Regardless whether or not there’s any truth attached to such an event, the end result is destructive and detrimental to those involved, as well as harmful to our collective work to protect innocent human life from fertilization to natural death. As long as the situation is handled with humility and obedience, combined with an unwavering commitment to the mission at hand, it works out in the right way. In this case, it will make Priests for Life and the whole pro-life movement much stronger, and will […]

Saturday is world suicide prevention day – abortion increases risk of suicide

September 10th is World Suicide Prevention Day. Experts in Finland report that the risk of death from suicide within a year after an abortion is more than seven times higher than the risk of suicide within a year after childbirth. Sometimes the mother sees suicide as the only way of being reunited with her child, and escaping the daily pain that the abortion brings. I deprived my child of life, she thinks, and therefore I don’t deserve my own. But while abortion ends the life of a child, God’s powerful grace enables the life of that mother to go on. […]

Holy smoke: check out the disparity in abortion rate between cohabiting and married couples

Pro-life activists have long pointed out that in order to end the great human rights tragedy of abortion, it isn’t enough simply to fight abortion in the courts or the legislatures: it’s necessary to build a “culture of life” where abortion is unthinkable, and where the social structures actively encourage protecting life. In many respects the central fight in this battle is the fight over the family and marriage. Studies have consistently shown that stable families built upon life-long, committed marriages between a man and a woman are by far the best for protecting life – and it isn’t hard […]

The frightening duty of fraternal correction

The practice of fraternal correction, encouraging and admonishing those around us when they fall into sin, is a harrowing experience.  This Christian duty has often been neglected and even disparaged in our individualist culture where we risk being told to ‘mind our own business’. But Christians have always recognized that our brother’s sin is our business because sin is an offense not only against God, but also the Church.  We are affected by the sins of those around us and cannot turn a blind eye when they put their soul in jeopardy. Pope Benedict XVI emphasized the need for fraternal […]

The Battin article is important because the suicide lobby claims that this article definitively proves that we have nothing to fear by the legalization of euthanasia or assisted suicide.
