Gallup: Support for assisted suicide fluctuates based on the wording of the question

May 31, 2013 (Alex Schadenberg) – A Gallup survey conducted (May 2 – 7, 2013) found that support for assisted suicide fluctuates by almost 20% based on the wording of the question. The survey found that:  51% of Americans support assisted suicide when the process is described as doctors helping a patient “commit suicide” while 70% of Americans supported assisted suicide when it was described as allowing doctors to “end the patient's life by some painless means.” The report from Gallup stated: Gallup has asked both questions of U.S. adults aged 18 and older annually since 2001, as part of its Values […]

Pope Francis says, Baptize babies of unwed mothers, because they chose life over abortion (Video)

VATICAN CITY, May 31, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – At his private Mass in the chapel at his residence Saturday, Pope Francis commented on the Gospel of Mark where Christ rebukes the disciples for preventing the little children from coming to Him. (Mark 10: 13-16) The Vatican newspaper L’Osservatore Romano reports that the Pope mentioned the example of an unwed mother coming to Church to ask for baptism for her child to exemplify the error of allowing protocol to distance people from the Lord. The paper quotes the Pope: A girl-mother goes to the parish to ask for Baptism for her child […]

President Obama’s motorcade confronted with large, graphic images of abortion

President Barack Obama and Rep. Nancy Pelosi came to Chicago yesterday for a Democratic Party fundraising event, and the Pro-Life Action League was there to confront the presidential motorcade with pictures of aborted babies—victims of the “choice” that Obama and Pelosi, et al. so stridently support. When we arrived at the Hilton & Towers shortly before 4:00 to set up for our protest, we found that Chicago Police had set up metal fencing all along Michigan Avenue directly in front of the hotel, effectively eliminating our intended protest area. So instead, we moved our protest across the street from the […]

Scientists sow confusion: falsely claim a blastocyst isn’t an embryo

Embryology text books will tell you that when fertilization is completed, an embryo is formed. That, is, a new individual organism exists–which remains the same organism until death.  For scientific purposes, the developmental stages of the embryo are given different names. When it is one-celled, it is a zygote. When it is about 7-10 days along, it is a blastocyst. In human biology, the embryo is called a fetus after three months of gestation, and a new-born infant is called a neonate. But they all refer to the same organism, just at different stages of development. The same holds true […]

Morgentaler is gone, but we’re taking back Morgentaler’s Canada

The passing of abortion pioneer Henry Morgentaler has provoked many reactions on all fronts of the abortion fight. The Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada rejoiced darkly that Morgentaler “did not ‘repent’ or have a ‘deathbed conversion,’ or make things ‘right with his maker.’” My colleague Stephanie Gray noted that Dr. Morgentaler’s death necessitates, as the passing of any fellow human does, an examination of what we are doing with our brief allotment of time on Earth. As I reflect on the death of a man who championed the eradication of nearly a quarter of our generation, I can’t help but see his passing as […]

Euthanasia Prevention Coalition challenges Global News on its one-sided euthanasia reporting

The article is connected to a one-sided poll that asks: Should doctor-assisted suicide be legal? The options are: YES, dying adults should be able to get help to end their life, or NO, it is wrong on moral grounds. The poll is skewed by its wording. People may want help to die, that doesn't mean they want assisted suicide and many people oppose assisted suicide for reasons other than morality. I sent the this e-mail to Global news concerning their promotion of assisted suicide. […]

New Gallup survey: mixed news for social conservatives

This week Gallup released their annual survey that asks Americans to rate the morality of various social issues. Overall, the news was not particularly good for social conservatives. On a variety of issues relating to sex and marriage, Americans are becoming more social liberal. Since 2001, a significantly smaller percentage of Americans are morally opposed to gay and lesbian relations, divorce, and sex between unmarried individuals. There was even a seven-percentage-point increase in the number of Americans who thought polygamy was morally acceptable. However, the news was not all bad. Opposition to pornography held relatively constant. The report also indicated that since 2001 a smaller percentage […]

Christians should prepare for further job discrimination following this week’s European Court ruling

Two British Christians who refused to act contrary to conscience have lost their legal battle at the European court of human rights in a move that demonstrates that ‘gay rights’ trump ‘conscience rights’ when the two conflict. Gary McFarlane and Lillian Ladele (pictured) had their appeals to the Strasbourg court rejected in January and had sought to resolve the matter in the court's grand chamber, its final arbiter. However, judges at the court have rejected the request, in effect ending the legal battle. Ladele, 52, a local authority registrar, was disciplined by Islington council in London for refusing to conduct civil partnership ceremonies, while McFarlane, […]

Morgentaler has died, and so will we one day: what will our legacy be?

Death has a way of forcing us to reflect on life.  And so it is with the death of Canada's infamous Henry Morgentaler—a man both celebrated and despised for his tireless fight for widespread access to abortion.  When one looks at the trail of blood dripping from millions of children victimized by his killing crusade, it can be tempting to focus on his lifeless legacy. Since those children cannot come back, and nor will he, I think our time is better spent reflecting on the legacy we ourselves have already built—and more importantly, should be building.  Are we living our lives in such a […]

While Harry Potter suddenly brings inanimate objects to life with a few words and the flick of a wand, our Canadian government does the same with a few words and the flick of a pen. According to the Harper administration, babies magically become human at the moment of birth. Beforehand, they are as worthless as a broken wand.  On Monday, May 27th, twenty-five year old Angelica Spandis appeared in a Toronto courtroom facing charges of first-degree murder. Her crime: giving birth to her newborn and allegedly […]

Officials said Saturday that the new measure would be applied to two Rakhine townships that border Bangladesh […]

Graphic abortion images to greet Obama and Nancy Pelosi in Chicago

When President Obama and Nancy Pelosi come to town next week for a Democratic Party fundraiser, we’ll be there with graphic abortion signs to remind their wealthy donors that when they write their big, fat checks, they’re supporting the killing of unborn children. Nancy Pelosi calls herself an “ardent, practicing Catholic,” but says “we don’t know” when life begins, so we can’t do anything to restrict “a woman’s right to choose.” Not to be outdone, Obama himself recently took things further when he told an audience at a fundraiser for the nation’s largest abortion chain: “Thank you, Planned Parenthood. Forcing our politicians to ‘Face the Children’: distasteful, but necessary

It is a sign of how disconnected we have become from the actions of our politicians that postcards depicting the results of their statements and their votes would be considered “shocking” and “controversial.” I don’t beg to differ, of course—the postcards that we at the Canadian Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform have been distributing for two weeks now in the constituencies of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Calgary MP Michelle Rempel certainly are both. Ms. Keith had three miscarriages before she carried two pregnancies to term—a preschool son and daughter whom she obviously loves and adores. We are very likely seeing only the tip of the iceberg of Obama corruption

The corruptions of the Obama administration are finally starting to be revealed and it isn't pretty. The question I have is, “why has it taken so long?” Now we know, from IRSgate, EPAgate and even the Benghazi affair, a little bit of how Obama managed to steal the last election. I strongly suggest that the revelations so far, as bad as they are, are very likely only the tip of the iceberg of Obama corruption. Our series on Obama's radical Marxist associated get-out-the-vote head told us that that the Obama organization must have a modus operandi of the end justifies any means. That's radical […]

Clinic staff have also likely noticed that four of Gosnell’s employees were swept up into his junk and have pleaded guilty of murder, and four others to lesser charges. Three former employees of late-term abortionist Douglas Karpen of Houston, Texas, have come forward, with photographic and video evidence that he murdered born babies in heinous ways and also committed abortions […]

Gallup poll shows long-term gains in pro-life sentiment

Last week, Gallup released the results of a recent survey on abortion attitudes. The pro-life position made a small gain since the most recent Gallup abortion survey conducted in December 2012. However, the gain was close to the margin of error. As such, much of the subsequent spin is that the Kermit Gosnell trial apparently has done little to shift overall attitudes toward abortion. Even attitudes toward late-term abortion remained similar. All in all, this is relatively unsurprising.  As many pro-lifers have pointed out, the Gosnell trial has received limited coverage from the mainstream media. Furthermore, most of the media coverage it […]

Abortionist says he’ll give pregnant mom ‘pack’ of sheets to put baby in if born during abortion

Today’s video begins a shift in the “Inhuman” conversation from the atrocity of illegal infanticide to the atrocity of legal late-term abortions. As pro-life Democrat Kirsten Powers wrote at The Daily Beast on May 6: What we need to learn from the Gosnell case is that late-term abortion is infanticide. Legal infanticide. That so many people in the media seem untroubled by the idea that 12 inches in one direction is a “private medical decision” […]

Will increased access to Plan B reduce unintended pregnancies? The numbers aren’t promising

This weekend on NRO, both Jillian Kay Melchior and Robert VerBruggen have offered commentary about the FDA’s recent decision to allow females age 15 and up to purchase emergency contraception without a prescription. Melchoir argues that will reduce the incidence of abortion, while VerBruggen is a bit more skeptical, saying “we should not expect too much.” I would argue that, worse, from a pro-life perspective, the FDA’s decision will do more harm than good. In his posting, VerBruggen favorably cites a 2002 Guttmacher Institute study on the contraceptive use of women obtaining abortions, which provides plenty of information to support his argument that abortions are not caused […]

The AP story makes its sweeping “no effect” claim by leaning heavily on a highly disputed “medical [re]definition” […]

Morning-After Pill: Human trafficking's best friend?

WASHINGTON, D.C., May 2, 2013 (Acton Institute) – The Federal Drug Administration (FDA) has cleared the sale of the “morning-after pill”(such as Plan B) for teens as young as 15, with no need for parental consent, and mandated that the drug no longer can be kept behind the pharmacy counter. Nancy Northup, president of the Center for Reproductive Rights, believes there are “daunting and sometimes insurmountable hoops women are forced to jump through” when faced with a crisis pregnancy and that this measure is a step forward for women’s health. While there are conflicting opinions as to whether or not these medications cause […]

A change in pro-abort tactics for the National March for Life counter-demonstration

It’s an unwritten rule of the abortion wars that pro-life demonstrations get an easy boost in winning over public opinion because of the outlandish tactics used at pro-abortion counter-demonstrations. The annual National March for Life in Ottawa is a case in point. There’s a radical contrast between the pro-lifers who pray or chant joyfully, wielding Rosaries and placards, and the pro-aborts who are often found waving coathangers, shouting obscenities, handing out condoms to teens, and even in some cases appearing half naked. After 15 years of annual marches, it looks like at least one pro-abortion group in Ottawa is catching […]

Despite her description by the European press as “centre left,” Bonino, as the Radical Party candidate, “is the most radical politician in Italy,” Bernabei claimed. CCL is […]

Gosnell is being held in solitary confinement over fear of other inmates: report

JD Mullane, a columnist for the Bucks County Courier Times, The Intel and the Burlington County (NJ) Times, has become the go-to man for up-to-date news on the Gosnell trial. He has been in the courtroom since mid-March, listening to and covering all the gruesome testimony. Today he sent out an interesting tweet, claiming that Gosnell is being held in solitary confinement at Curran-Frumhold Correction Facility. The reason? According to Mullane's source: “Snipping babies' heads is frowned upon by felons.” Indeed. Some crimes are just so abominable, that even those who are willing to break the law willy-nilly know that […]

National Abortion Federation president: problem with Gosnell is he ‘wasn’t ensuring fetal demise’

An ABC News article appeared recently on the Kermit Gosnell trial that included remarks from one pro-life spokeswoman (our own Ann Scheidler, Vice President of the Pro-Life Action League), as well as one “pro-choice” spokeswoman (National Abortion Federation President Vicki Saporta). In the article reporter Colleen Curry quotes or paraphrases Saporta in each of the last four paragraphs.  Here are the first two: Vicki Saporta, president for the abortion rights group National Abortion Federation, said that Gosnell took advantage of the women who came to him in need of an abortion. She said his clinic is not representative of safe, regulated abortion clinics. […]

Princeton Philosopher: ‘Why Not Sterilize the Human Race and Party into Extinction?’

Princeton Philosopher: ‘Why Not Sterilize the Human Race and Party into Extinction?’ by LifeSiteNews.com By Peter J. Smith NEW YORK, June 8, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Princeton philosopher Peter Singer one of the world’s foremost contemporary utilitarian philosophers infamous for his advocacy of infanticide, would like individuals to consider this question: would sterilizing the human race to spare future generations the pain of existence be a good idea? In a blog post for the New York Times entitled “Should this be the last generation?” Singer discusses in glowing terms the thought of South African philosopher David Benatar. Singer calls Benator the […]

7.6 million babies aborted in UK since Abortion Act came into effect in 1968: where is the church?

The 45th anniversary of the implementation of Britain’s Abortion Act passed on Saturday unnoticed by the national media. The Abortion Act 1967 came into effect on 27 April 1968. Since then, around 7.6 million babies have been aborted, now 200,000 each year. Currently one in five pregnancies ends in abortion and 98% are carried out on spurious mental health grounds when in fact there is absolutely no evidence that abortion protects mental health. God hates the shedding of innocent blood (Proverbs 6:16-18) and the Bible tells us that the nation of Judah fell under God’s judgement because God was not willing to forgive her for the innocent […]

Planned Parenthood’s ‘House of Horrors 2.0’ CLOSED pending investigation into unsafe conditions

Earlier this month, the we brought you the story of the Planned Parenthood clinic in Wilmington, Delaware was being investigated due to allegations of unsafe and unsanitary conditions by two former nurses. Last week we were informed that they had ceased performing abortions at that location pending the completion of the investigation, but yesterday the University of Delaware Review reported that the clinic is completely closed due to the investigation! The Wilminton Planned Parenthood, fast becoming known as the House of Horrors 2.0, allegedly suffered from many of the same defects as Kermit Gosnell’s Pennsylvania abortuary which has been the subject of intense scrutiny […]

Planned Parenthood calls Gosnell case ‘appalling’ and horrific.’ But why?

Over the past few weeks, the nation’s largest abortion chain has attempted to distance itself from Kermit Gosnell and his notorious “House of Horrors” abortion facility. In an April 12 tweet, Planned Parenthood called the Gosnell case “appalling,” and an April 17 tweet labeled it “horrific.” OK. But what specifically about the Gosnell case do Cecile Richards, et al., find so “horrific” and “appalling”? Clearly, as self-styled of “women’s health” advocates, they object to the de facto conditions found at Gosnell’s so-called clinic: urine-splattered walls, blood on the floors, cats roaming freely and defecating all over the place, etc. – to say nothing of the death of […]

Debunking the myth that Gosnell was an ‘outlier’

It would be difficult to overstate the impact of Kristen Powers’ April 11 column bemoaning the absence of coverage of the Kermit Gosnell murder trial. This is not to say that once “We’ve forgotten what belongs on Page One” ran in USA Today there was a collective mad rush to Philadelphia. But Powers did get the ball rolling that the rest of us had found immovable. Suddenly it was semi-obligatory to at least explain why your outlet ignored the trial or parachute in a reporter for a few days coverage. (Her column can be read here. Our take on what she […]
