Pew poll shows few Americans find abortion morally acceptable

This week, the Pew Research Center released the results of a survey on the morality of abortion. The results indicated that 49 percent of Americans found abortion to be immoral. Only 15 percent found abortion morally acceptable and 23 percent felt it was not a moral issue. Religion was a strong predictor of abortion attitudes. White Evangelicals were the religious group most opposed to abortion — with 75 percent indicating they found abortion immoral. Catholics were also statistically more likely to consider abortion immoral. Requests for euthanasia in Belgium are rarely refused.

A study published in the Journal of Pain and Symptom Management – November 2011 titled: Process and Outcomes of Euthanasia Requests Under the Belgian Act on Euthanasia: A Nationwide Survey found that only 5% of requests for euthanasia in Belgium are refused. The Belgian study on the process and outcomes of euthanasia requests was part of the “Monitoring Quality of End-of-Life Care Study.”  The researchers sent an anonymous self-administered questionnaire to 3006 Belgian physicians by mail in March 2009.
