The Detroit News’ biased abortion coverage

Last week, the Detroit News ran an article about abortion trends in the city of Detroit and the state of Michigan. It found that abortion numbers were increasing in Detroit while falling elsewhere in the state.  In general, abortion trends tend to get very little coverage from the media.  As such, it was heartening to see the paper cover this important topic. That said the coverage was extremely biased. Twice the article mentioned that legal abortion is a “safe” procedure. In reality, there is a substantial body of public health research which shows that abortion increases the risk of breast cancer and a range of psychological problems, […]

Euthanasia in Canada: Letter writing campaign

The Québec euthanasia Bill 52 will be voted on very soon, possibly today (June 3).  Steven Fletcher is busy promoting his private members bills to legalize euthanasia and assisted suicide. The Supreme Court of Canada will hear the Carter case on October 14. The Carter case seeks to legalize euthanasia and assisted suicide in Canada. On June 2 the National Post published a page of letters, with the majority of the letters supporting euthanasia. This means that the euthanasia lobby asked their supporters to write letters. To write a letter to the editor you need to keep your letter short […]

Planned Parenthood: Ok to put pro-choice rosaries on ovaries

While abortion proponents have forever belittled opposition to abortion (and contraception) in the name of religion, hypocritial Planned Parenthood has for at least two decades used pro-abortion clergy to promote killing preborn children. In October 2013, Planned Parenthood Federation of America released a “Pastoral Letter to Patients” that is only now getting media attention, today headlined on Drudge. PPFA’s inexplicably pro-abortion Clergy Advisory Board is comprised of 12 men and only three women, a lopsided 4:1 gender ratio that would draw ire if a board of pro-life pastors. But I’ve already noted Planned Parenthood is hypocritical. The letter states, in part: The decision to have an abortion is personal. Though […]

Quebec regains that killing feeling

Quebec is on the verge–again–of legalizing a radical euthanasia bill. From the National Post story: One of the first acts of Premier Philippe Couillard’s new Liberal government was to revive Bill 52, which was nearing a final vote in March when the previous Parti Québécois government called an election. All parties agreed to bring the legislation back at the stage it had been before the election. With final debate set to begin next week, the government said it fully expects it will become law before the session ends June 13. Parties have agreed to allow a free vote, but a […]

Everything old is new again: The resurgence of pro-life hospital pickets

“Anti-Abortion Protesters Are Coming to a Hospital Near You.” That’s the apt title of an article published last week by pro-choice journalist Robin Marty on the liberal website ThinkProgress. Noting that the vast majority of abortions are performed in freestanding clinics, Marty says hospitals are “increasingly viewed as the weak link in the battle over abortion access.” She then adds, “And that’s exactly the way medical boards like it.” But as more and more states are enacting legislation requiring abortionists in freestanding facilities to have admitting privileges at and transfer agreements with a local hospital, the landscape is changing: Admitting […]
