We all know that light shines brightest in the darkness. The darkness is becoming overwhelming thus we have a time for evangelization now the likes of which we have never experienced.
I am looking forward to so many good things—cooking Christmas Eve supper, baking the Christmas morning bun, assembling the Christmas dinner trifle, opening the presents, seeing our friends, admiring the sheep—that the shocks and horrors of recent weeks have receded into the background.
I find some irony in St. Joseph’s role in the Christmas story, for he surely had the skills to build a home for the Holy Family. Nevertheless, events out of his control forced him to take refuge in a natural setting for world history’s most pivotal moment.
It’s an honor to be with all of you in this time of upheaval and uncertainty. I firmly believe God chose us to live in this time for a reason, and has greatly honored us with the crosses and trials He’s given us.
As God fulfils his promises in the central event of human history, the Incarnation of His Son, so too in the smaller matters to each of us in our journeys to eternal life.
