Austrian court legalizes same-sex ‘marriage’

By Doug Mainwaring

AUSTRIA, December 6, 2017  (LifeSiteNews) – An Austrian court has ruled that gays and lesbians can “marry” each other, beginning in 2019.

Same-sex couples have been able to register their partnerships with the Austrian government since 2010. But according to the court, these “legal partnerships” are basically indistinguishable from marriage, so denying same-sex “marriage” would be discriminatory.

Two women who wanted to “marry” brought the case to the court with the help of a lawyer named Helmut Graupner.

“[T]he distinction between marriage and registered partnership can not be maintained today without discriminating against same-sex couples,” said the court. “Because the separation into two legal institutions implies that people with same sex sexual orientation are not equal to people with different gender orientation.”

The court also cited the fact that same-sex couples are already “allowed to adopt children (jointly) and make equal use of the permitted forms of medically assisted reproduction.”

The Austrian Constitutional Court’s decision has been met with criticism.

“Now there is equal treatment for something that’s not equal,” said Herbert Kickl, the secretary general of Austria’s Freedom Party.

The Austrian People’s Party (ÖVP) also opposes same-sex “marriage.”

These two pro-marriage parties are “negotiating to form a new government after Austria's October election,” the Associated Press reported.

It’s unclear how aggressively their government will oppose the ruling.

Last month, in anticipation of the ruling, Austria’s Catholic Bishops’ Conference released a statement saying marriage “should be reserved exclusively for couples of different sexes,” because of the unique nature of complementary relationships compared “to other forms of coexistence.”

‘Whatever he wins is worthless’: ‘transgender’ man competes in women’s weightlifting competition

By Fr. Mark Hodges

NEW ZEALAND, December 6, 2017 (LifeSiteNews) – Male weightlifter Gavin Hubbard has won a medal competing against women under the name “Laurel.”

Hubbard, 39, won two women’s silver medals at the world championships of the International Weightlifting Federation in Anaheim, California this week. He became the first New Zealander to win a medal at the championships and also the first transgender to win.

Critics within the weightlifting world are crying foul.

“We’re in a power sport which is normally related to masculine tendencies… Where you’ve got that aggression...then you can lift bigger weights,” Australian Weightlifting Federation chief executive Michael Keelan told the Associated Press.

“If you’ve been a male and you’ve lifted certain weights, then you suddenly transition to a female, psychologically you know you’ve lifted those weights before,” he said.

“I personally don’t think it’s a level playing field,” Keelan added. “That’s my personal view and I think it’s shared by a lot of people in the sporting world.”

Hubbard finished second in the women’s 90kg-plus snatch, which gave him his first medal, and fourth in the women’s clean and jerk category. His combined total won the second medal.

After winning the two medals, Hubbard reportedly avoided the press and declined to answer any questions. At the award ceremony, he had to squat to receive the medal because he was so much taller than the female competitors.

Twitter users called Hubbard a “cheat” and opined, “Whatever he wins is worthless.” Other weightlifters also mocked Hubbard’s inclusion in the competition.

International Weightlifting Federation and International Olympic Committee rules allow men to compete against women if their testosterone levels are consistently low enough.

Hubbard qualified as a woman by testing low enough in testosterone for a year before the world championships.

Hubbard also qualified to compete in the Commonwealth Games held on the Gold Coast in April.

Keelan said allowing Hubbard to compete creates an “uneven playing field” at the Commonwealth Games next year.

Another transgender, male handball competitor “Hannah” Mouncey, was banned from the AFL Women’s competition in Australia even though he passed the low-testosterone test. However, Mouncey may compete next year.

Sarah Elizabeth Robles of the United States, who took gold, beat Hubbard. Robles’ coach Tim Swords said Hubbard kept silent after his wins probably because he was “embarrassed.”

“I hope the IOC does something about it because this is really going to hurt our sport in the long run,” Coach Swords said, according to “I’m not comfortable with it at all.”

Swords added that many coaches were upset that a man was competing against women. When Robels won first place, Swords said he was congratulated by many relieved coaches because “nobody wanted [Hubbard] to win.”

Hubbard bested the bronze medal winner Shaimaa Khalaf of Egypt. Khalaf’s coach, Mohamed Hosnytaha, criticized Hubbard competing with women as well.

“We didn’t agree with it, with somebody who was a man for so long, who has different hormones, different feelings,” he reasoned, according to “It is not fair.”

GOP chair praises LGBT activist group’s work to ‘transform’ the Republican party

Congratulatory letter from RNC to Log Cabin Republicans

WASHINGTON, D.C., December 6, 2017 (LifeSiteNews) – The Republican National Committee (RNC) issued a letter recognizing the Log Cabin Republicans organization on the occasion of its fortieth anniversary, praising it for its history of advocating for gay rights.

Log cabin seeks to transform the GOP

Log Cabin Republicans (LCR) derive their name from the first Republican President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, who was born in a Log Cabin.

The group claims on its website to be “the nation’s original and largest organization representing gay conservatives and allies who support fairness, freedom, and equality for all Americans.”  Founded in 1977, the nationwide organization now has state and local chapters across the country, full-time staff in Washington, DC, a federal political action committee, and state political action committees.

The group advocated for same-sex marriage over the last decade while most Republicans were fighting to maintain the immutable definition of marriage, based on timeless truths of complementarity and conjugality.

During the 2016 presidential campaign, the group voted not to endorse then-candidate Donald J. Trump.

“Over the last three decades, many gay and lesbian activists worked hard to make the Democratic Party more inclusive on gay and lesbian issues,” continues the group’s description on their website. “Log Cabin Republicans are doing the same important work to transform the GOP.”

RNC congratulates the Log Cabin Republicans

“As the nation’s original and largest conservative organization advocating for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community, the work you do is critical in supporting liberty and equality for all,” wrote RNC Chair Ronna R. McDaniel in an official letter to the group.

“The Republican Party prides itself on being an inclusive Big Tent Party that fights for the values that Make America Great. We are fortunate to have strong, freedom-fighting advocates like the Log Cabin Republicans with us, and we stand with you in pursuit of individual liberty, limited government, and equal rights under law.”

“We celebrate your decades of support for the LGBT community,” she added.  “On behalf of our Party, we will continue to stand with the Log Cabin Republicans as you advance the ideals of freedom over oppression — now, and for years to come.  Your voices make our Party stronger, and our nation greater.”

“Thank you to Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel and the Republican National Committee for your formal recognition and commemoration of Log Cabin Republicans and our work advocating for a more equal America!” said Log Cabin President, Gregory Angelo, on the organization’s Facebook page.

Angelo told the LGBT-oriented Washington Blade, “Log Cabin Republicans has had a longstanding relationship with the RNC, but having their formal and public recognition of our organization – by the current Chairwoman of the RNC, no less – as well as a commitment to ‘continue to stand with Log Cabin Republicans,’ marks a watershed moment in GOP politics.”

Controversial ‘Rosary intentions’ for Pope Francis appear in Roman churches

Dorothy Cummings McLean Dorothy Cummings McLean Follow Dorothy
By Dorothy Cummings McLean

ROME, December 6, 2017 (LifeSiteNews) – A number of fliers have been left in Roman churches criticizing Pope Francis’ papacy with prayer petitions calling for restoration.

Marco Tosatti, an Italian journalist who reports extensively on Vatican politics, says that the handouts first appeared on Saturday, December 2, and popped up again the following day.

They included a list of unusual petitions printed beside an illustration of the Holy Rosary encircling a photograph of Pope Francis. Readers were asked to pray:

  • So that Rome will return to the faith
  • So that the Madonna will come before Luther
  • So that the faith will come before politics
  • So that [Marco] Pannella and [Emma] Bonino will no longer be pointed out as examples
  • So that the pope returns to speaking with cardinals before journalists
  • So that the pope will not persecute priests and religious orders he doesn’t like
  • So that the pope will not be silent before those who fight family and life

The reference to the Madonna may have been provoked by the recent Vatican stamp depicting Luther standing at the foot of the cross in Mary’s place.

Marco Pannella was a left-wing politician who worked with fellow radical Emma Bonino to promote the culture of death in Italy. The recently deceased founder of Italy’s Radical Party was praised by the new chief of the renovated Pontifical Academy for Life, Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia, at an event celebrating the release of Pannella’s biography in February of this year.

Emma Bonino, who is still living, was praised by Pope Francis in 2016 as one of the forgotten “great ones” of Italy. Her campaign to decriminalize abortion in Italy began in 1968 when she worked as a backstreet abortionist. In July 2017 Bonino was allowed to speak about refugees in a Catholic church in northern Italy. A pro-life activist who protested her presence was “forcibly escorted” from the church.

The cardinals mentioned may be the prelates who submitted questions, or Dubia, concerning harmful interpretations of Amoris Laetitia to Pope Francis in 2016. Pope Francis, whose off-the-cuff interviews with journalists have rocked the world, has not yet responded directly to the so-called “Dubia cardinals”, of whom only two still live.

The “priests and religious orders” mentioned might be the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate, a once-thriving order that was dismantled by Pope Francis in the first year of his pontificate.

“Those who fight family and life” might refer to recent controversial guests at the Vatican, including the president of the Swiss branches of Planned Parenthood.

The flier or “manifesto”, as Tosatti calls it, was unsigned.

A previous anonymous communication criticizing Pope Francis to the Romans took the form of posters pasted overnight to walls throughout Rome. Appearing in February of this year and written in Roman dialect, the posters reproduced an unflattering photo of the pontiff glowering from a chair. They read: “Ah, Francis, you have intervened in Congregations, removed priests, decapitated the Order of Malta and the Franciscans of the Immaculate, ignored Cardinals … but where is your mercy?”

Trudeau Liberals’ ‘homosexual propaganda’ campaign will cost taxpayers $16 million

Lianne Laurence Lianne Laurence Follow Lianne
By Lianne Laurence

OTTAWA, December 6, 2017 (LifeSiteNews) — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberal government will spend at least $15 million to “memorialize” the Canadian government’s “historic discrimination” of LGBTQ2 persons.

That includes building a national monument in Ottawa and funding “travelling and core exhibits” by the Canadian Museum of Human Rights.

And the Liberals have earmarked a further $1 million-plus to celebrate the coming 50th anniversary of the legalization of homosexualiy, and further initiatives to “promote diversity and inclusion.”

Gwen Landolt, a lawyer and vice president of REAL Women, slammed these efforts as “homosexual propaganda paid for by Canadian taxpayers without their permission” and which “elevate homosexuality as normal, moral, risk-free, and acceptable, which it is not.”

The $15 million commitment to “memorialize” the historic discrimination against LGBTQ individuals is part of the Trudeau government’s $145 million out-of-court settlement of the class action lawsuit launched last year by Toronto lawyer Douglas Elliott.

Elliott brought the suit on behalf of LGBTQ2 individuals discharged from Canada’s military or fired from the civil service because of their sexual orientation during what has been dubbed a government “purge” that ended in 1992.

Details of the “LGBTQ2 agreement-in-principle” were released by Trudeau’s office November 28, the day the prime minister apologized in the House of Commons to those affected by the “purge,” as well as to individuals convicted under the Canada’s former law against sodomy.

The Liberals also agreed to pay out $110 million for individual compensation, and $20 million for “legal fees and administration.”

Trudeau’s office also announced on November 28 further funding, over and above the $145 million settlement, for a number “initiatives to support LGBTQ2 communities and promote diversity and inclusion.”

That includes $250,000 to deal with an “anticipated increase in demand for services from LGBTQ2 individuals.”

This money will pay for such things as “community education sessions” on the “impacts of homophobia, transphobia, and biphobia and how to address them collectively.”

It could also be used to fund “LGBTQ2 peer conversations” on the “lived experience of homophobia, transphobia, and biphobia and how to build resiliency within LGBTQ2 communities.”

The Liberals are also bankrolling celebrations of the upcoming 50th anniversary of the decriminalization of homosexuality.

In May 1969, Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau’s Liberal government passed an omnibus bill legalizing homosexuality and abortion.

Heritage Canada Minister Melanie Joly announced the Liberals are giving $770,000 to homosexual activist group Egale for its “Legalizing Love: The Road to June 1969” project, an exhibition that will tour 10 cities, to mark the anniversary.

The Liberals are also funding production of a bilingual 60-minute documentary to “increase awareness of the people, actions, and struggles that led to the decriminalization of homosexuality” to premiere June 27, 2019.

The Liberals have set up a special unit and toll-free number to provide members of the military or “the RCMP with service-related injuries who identify as members of LGBTQ2 communities” with “information about services and supports available to them.”

The specialized unit will operate for the period of one year beginning November 28, 2017, and is being funded within existing resources, according to a statement from Veterans Affairs to LifeSiteNews.

Moreover, in January 2018, the Canadian Armed Forces “will launch the Positive Space initiative to promote a safe and inclusive work environment for all, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression,” the government announced.

REAL Women excoriated Trudeau’s apology and payout as “deceitful” in a December 4 press release.

Not only did the prime minister ignore “the opinion of millions of faith-based Canadians whether Christian, Muslim, Sikh or Orthodox Jew who do not believe that the sexual preferences of homosexuals are normal, moral, nor risk-free,” it said, but Trudeau made no mention of the “consequences to homosexual sexual practices, medically, psychologically and socially.”

It’s well documented that “homosexual sexual activity leads to the devastation of AIDS, anal, throat and mouth cancer, sexually transmitted diseases, drug abuse and increased depression and suicide,” noted REAL Women.

In countries like the Netherlands and Sweden, “where homosexual rights have been the law of the land for years,” homosexual persons “remain three times more susceptible to mood disorders and 3 to 10 times more likely to engage in suicidal self-harm.”

REAL Women also decried the Liberal government’s “Positive Space Initiative” in the military.

“This is discrimination against the needs of other military personnel,” it stated. The Canadian Armed Forces “was never intended to be a social agency to promote homosexuality.”

Trudeau's apology and the Liberal payout will have “long range and damaging” results, warned REAL Women.

“A genuine concern arises whether those who do not accept Trudeau's simplistic interpretation of homosexuality are going to be hounded and persecuted under the homosexual programs.”

Denmark aborted all but 4 babies diagnosed with Down syndrome last year

Claire Chretien Claire Chretien Follow Claire
By Claire Chretien

December 6, 2017 (LifeSiteNews) – A Danish official is using the four children with Down syndrome who weren’t aborted in Denmark last year to argue that his country’s policy is not to kill everyone with an extra chromosome.

Ireland may repeal its Eighth amendment, which protects the human right to life.

Pro-life activist Liz McDermott pointed out to the committee on the Eighth Amendment in the House of the Oireachtas that Denmark has an extraordinarily high rate of abortions on Down Syndrome babies.

It seems her comments were based on a 2013 article in the Danish newspaper Berlingske titled Plans to make Denmark a Down syndrome-free perfect society.

That article doesn’t appear to be available on the newspaper’s website, but a number of others about the country’s high Down syndrome abortion rate are.

“In 2016, there were four children born in Denmark with Down’s syndrome after prenatal diagnosis and there were 20 children born with Down’s syndrome diagnosed after birth,” Danish Ambassador to Ireland Carsten Søndergaard wrote to the Irish government.

“In general it should be noted that it is not the policy of the Danish health authorities to eradicate Down’s syndrome, but it is their duty to provide the pregnant woman with the best possible basis for her to make her own decision about her pregnancy,” he asserted.

Søndergaard’s use of the phrase “pregnant woman” goes against his country’s recommendation to the United Nations that this “transphobic” language not be used.

Nearly 100 percent of babies diagnosed with Down Syndrome prenatally in Iceland are aborted.

In 2009, only three babies with Down syndrome were born in Iceland. Only one mother in the entire country has two children with Down syndrome.

Babies with Down syndrome are aborted at similarly overwhelming rates in many other Western countries.

Catholics ‘not permitted to adhere to the pope’s novel teaching’: expert

Dorothy Cummings McLean Dorothy Cummings McLean Follow Dorothy
By Dorothy Cummings McLean

December 6, 2017 (LifeSiteNews) – A Catholic theologian has told LifeSiteNews that Catholics may not follow the pope’s “novel teaching” endorsing Communion guidelines from the Buenos Aires bishops.

The Buenos Aires guidelines, pronounced by Pope Francis to be the “only interpretation” of Amoris Laetitia, allow some divorced-and-remarried couples to receive both the sacraments of Confession and the Eucharist without a firm resolve to live chastely in continence.

News broke on the weekend that both the Buenos Aires guidelines and Pope Francis’s private note endorsing them have been promulgated officially in the Acta Apostolicae Sedis. An accompanying comment from the Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, says the pope’s note carries the status of an “Apostolic Letter,” and that the Pope’s endorsement is part of his “authentic Magisterium.”

That has led to worry among Catholics that they must now endorse the Buenos Aires approach under pain of heresy.

However, a theologian consulted by LifeSiteNews says that, on the contrary, Catholics must not accept the novelty.

“Vatican I teaches us that there are conditions regarding papal infallibility,” he said. “Outside those conditions, we do not have certitude that what the pope proposes does not contain error.”

The highly credible source, known and well-trusted by LifeSiteNews, would comment on the new addition to the Acta Apostolicae Sedis only under conditions of strict anonymity. Many theologians and priests have faced strong reprisals for speaking critically of Pope Francis. Two notable recent examples are Professor Josef Seifert and Fr. Thomas Weinandy.

“Normally speaking,” the theologian continued, “we should give assent to the ordinary Magisterial teaching of the Holy Father.  However, the recent letter by the Holy Father appearing in the A.A.S. confirming the Argentinian bishops’ interpretation of Amoris Laetitiae in which those who have been married outside the Church without an annulment may receive Holy Communion is clearly contrary to the Divine Positive Law (Revelation), the constant tradition of the Church and even a statement made by a recent pope, Pope Saint John Paul II.”

John Paul II asserted in Familiaris Consortio that the Church does not admit divorced and remarried members to Holy Communion. The Pope wrote:

…the Church reaffirms her practice, which is based upon Sacred Scripture, of not admitting to Eucharistic Communion divorced persons who have remarried. They are unable to be admitted thereto from the fact that their state and condition of life objectively contradict that union of love between Christ and the Church which is signified and effected by the Eucharist. Besides this, there is another special pastoral reason: if these people were admitted to the Eucharist, the faithful would be led into error and confusion regarding the Church's teaching about the indissolubility of marriage.

According to the theologian, “Arguing that the pastoral practice is distinct from the moral doctrine (i.e. one must be in the state of grace to receive Holy Communion and adultery is mortally sinful) does not obtain in this case since the pastoral practice, according to St. Paul’s teaching specifically, IS the moral doctrine; there can be no distinction.”

“In cases where a papal statement clearly deviates from Revelation and the constant teaching of the Tradition of the Church, Catholics are not permitted to adhere to the novel teaching.”

Hollywood network helped Weinstein cover up ‘decades’ of abuse: New York Times

Claire Chretien Claire Chretien Follow Claire
By Claire Chretien

December 6, 2017 (LifeSiteNews)  – A massive New York Times report details the “network” of journalists and Hollywood elites who knew about and helped cover up Harvey Weinstein’s sexual harassment of scores of women.

“Fellow executives helped mask Mr. Weinstein’s behavior going back to 1990,” the New York Times explained.

Weinstein quietly settled sexual misconduct lawsuits with disgruntled women. He also had journalist friends dig up dirt on his victims to discredit them. Agents told actresses Weinstein harassed to keep quiet lest they damage their careers.

Weinstein regularly threatened those who might expose him, saying things like “You know what I can do,” and “I am a man who has great resources.”

He threatened an assistant with “personal information” he “somehow knew” about her and her family. He fired those who complained about having to bring unsuspecting women to his hotel rooms for meetings.

Other assistants displayed a “chilling detachment” with which they helped Weinstein manipulate his victims, the report says.

“Mr. Weinstein held off press scrutiny with a mix of threats and enticements, drawing reporters close with the lure of access to stars, directors and celebrity-packed parties,” the New York Times reported. “Some journalists negotiated book and movie deals with him even as they were assigned to cover him.”

“Minutes before” the New York Times published its first report on Weinstein, which sparked the downfall of a number of media and political elites over their covered-up sexual harassment and assaults, “he called the reporters who wrote it.”

“Swinging between flattery and threats, he said that he had ways of knowing who had cooperated with the investigation and the means to undermine it,” the New York Times revealed.

The report also noted that Hollywood is run by men who can easily abuse their power to sexually coerce and silence women.

Weinstein put “women on movie production payrolls without clear assignments,” had his assistant rent him a furnished apartment, using his company credit card, and stocked “with women’s lingerie, flowers, two bathrobes and extra clothes for Mr. Weinstein.”

According to the report, Weinstein touted his close relationships with then-President Obama and Hillary Clinton. He routinely helped his friends, like Amazon head Jeff Bezos, when they faced media scrutiny, too.

According to the New York Times:

Two days later, Jeff Bezos, founder and chief executive of Amazon, interrupted a vacation in Hawaii to field advice from Mr. Weinstein, according to the emails. The Wall Street Journal was reporting on turmoil at Amazon Studios, one of Mr. Weinstein’s business partners. He recommended an aggressive response that involved hiring some of his own team, including a libel lawyer who “makes sure everyone sticks to the right narrative,” Mr. Weinstein wrote. He added, “I’m happy to coordinate with whoever you’d like, as a friend of the court.” Mr. Bezos declined to comment.

The report alleges Weinstein hired a PR manager to keep quiet the affair that eventually became his second marriage and used business opportunities to manipulate media trying to report on him.

He “struck a deal” with American Media, the company that owns the National Enquirer. That company is “known to sometimes help out allies in trouble with a strategy known in tabloid newsrooms as ‘catch and kill’ — acquiring exclusive rights to damaging stories and then not publishing them,” the Times noted.

“Mr. Weinstein’s political activity” on behalf of Clinton and Obama “boosted his image as a man with friends in high places and close ties to the country’s leading female politician. It is not clear if rumors of his record of sexual misconduct had ever reached them.”

Weinstein was working on a documentary about Clinton until the allegations came to light.

He pledged a $100,000 donation to abortion giant Planned Parenthood in May. The abortion company denies that Weinstein ever fulfilled that pledge.

It was apparently also an open secret that another liberal media figure, NBC host Matt Lauer, was a sexual menace.

Brian Flood at Fox News wrote, “if anyone doubts that New York’s media elite was aware of Lauer’s reputation, they should look no further than a top-secret ‘roast’ of Lauer that took place in October 2008.”

He continued:

The notorious event ─ now legendary in New York media circles ─ pushed the outer limits of sexist, racist, homophobic and obscene jokes — and left little doubt that Lauer’s colleagues knew NBC’s biggest star had a troubled marriage and a wandering eye.

Last week, NBC’s own Joe Scarborough, who attended the roast but said he left early, feeling uncomfortable, brought it up on “Morning Joe.” Lauer’s peccadillos, he said, were not just known about. At the roast, they were celebrated.

TIME named its 2017 person of the year “the silence breakers” who have spoken out about sexual harassment.

Some commentators have noted that ironically, the very media that accused Vice President Pence of sexism for taking care to never give the appearance of impropriety with women is now being exposed as filled with predatory, misogynistic men like Lauer and Weinstein.

And, according to these reports, they all knew it.

Lead Portuguese cardinal: divorced and remarried couples can ‘return to the sacramental life’

Matthew Cullinan Hoffman Matthew Cullinan Hoffman Follow Matthew
By Matthew Cullinan Hoffman

December 6, 2017 ( – The Cardinal Patriarch of Lisbon appears to have endorsed giving the sacrament of Holy Communion to some divorced and remarried couples, claiming that in most cases their previous marriages were invalid.

Cardinal Manuel Clemente, who is also the president of Portugal’s bishops’ conference, is urging the clergy to take a “fundamental attitude of ‘welcoming,’ of ‘accompaniment’ and ‘discernment’ of those who are divorced and remarried, stating that ‘in the greatest number of cases’ the marriage was null,” according to Agencia Ecclesia, the official news service of the Portuguese bishops.

The cardinal told Agencia Ecclesia that divorced and remarried Catholics who want to begin receiving the sacraments will have to follow a “very long” process which isn’t a “quick, immediate, simple” decision. However, he added that “in some cases, with discretion and with the consent of the bishop, they can return to the sacramental life,” citing the authority of Pope Francis.

Clemente did not specify whether celibacy within the invalid second marriage would be a requirement for such couples, a condition imposed by Pope John Paul II in his apostolic exhortation Familiaris Consortio.

However, it seems likely that the cardinal’s words will be interpreted in ways consonant with Pope Francis’ official explanation of the meaning of Amoris Laetitia, published recently in the Vatican’s Acts of the Apostolic See, which allows invalidly remarried couples to receive Holy Communion, even when they continue to engage in adulterous sexual acts.

Clemente’s claim that most marriages that end in divorce are null is similar to another, broader claim made by Pope Francis in private comments in 2016, in which he controversially asserted that most marriages in general are invalid.

Meanwhile, the Portuguese archdiocese of Braga has already announced that it will give “access to the sacraments” to “divorced and remarried Christians,” without any reference to the need to give up the sexual act.

In early November the Diocese of Braga published a statement on its website affirming that “the Archdiocese of Braga will establish a group for accompanying Christians who are divorced and remarried, which will make access to the sacraments possible, in accordance with a process of individual discernment.”

“Besides giving information and advice regarding the processes for the declaration of nullity of a marriage, the team will accompany each case, so that, after a process of personal discernment, access to the sacraments and the possibility of being godparents will be reevaluated,” the archdiocese declared.

The Code of Canon Law continues to state the Catholic Church’s long-established doctrine that those “obstinately persevering in manifest grave sin are not to be admitted to holy communion,” in canon 915.

This abortion center kills perfectly healthy babies who could survive outside the womb

Claire Chretien Claire Chretien Follow Claire
By Claire Chretien

WASHINGTON, D.C., December 6, 2017 (LifeSiteNews) – An undercover phone call revealed the willingness of a late-term abortion facility in the nation’s capital to abort a healthy, 26-week-old baby.

This call is the latest undercover investigation from Priests for Life and Abortion Free New Mexico. The pro-life groups are releasing calls with abortion centers that show abortion businesses are more than willing to abort healthy babies late into pregnancy for no reason.

A common pro-abortion argument in favor of late-term abortion is that such abortions are necessary because of the mother’s “health” or the baby having a potential birth defect or disability.

An employee at Washington Surgi-Clinic told a caller posing as a pregnant mother that she could abort her baby at 26 weeks for $6,200 or at nearly 27 weeks for $7,200.

The abortion worker told the caller she could come in for the abortion as early as the next day.

Washington Surgi-Clinic is located in D.C.’s posh Foggy Bottom neighborhood near George Washington University.

“Here in our nation’s capital, as in cities from coast to coast, healthy babies of healthy mothers are being killed at stages where they can survive outside the womb,” said Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life.

“Washington Surgi-Clinic is performing these abortions on healthy women carrying healthy babies with no questions asked,” said Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico. “Now is the time for Congress to act swiftly to end this scourge of late term abortion.”

Washington Surgi-Clinic was featured in Live Action’s Inhuman series on late-term abortion as well.

Undercover footage showed the facility’s abortionist, Cesare Santangelo, agreeing to deny medical care if an infant survived a failed late-term abortion.

The facility’s google reviews indicate many mothers who aborted their babies there had a bad experience.

“Worst place ever,” one wrote in 2011. “This is an overcrowded meat market where with antiquated, dirty equipment and insufficient staff.”

“If something goes wrong there is not enough staff to address the issue,” the anonymous google user wrote. “They needed to use a wheelchair after one girl (sitting in the hallway) had a reaction and they couldn't even get the wheelchair through the doors without the other patients helping move chairs out of the way.”

“Right after that there was screaming, crying, glass breaking, things being thrown heard from the back, and the doctor calling for his nurses in a panicked no time did anyone let the waiting area know that everything was under control,” she continued.

“I almost died here in here and they were about to let me. That's all I'll say,” a google reviewer named Jai Mee wrote six months ago.

HARRISBURG, PA, December 5, 2017 (LifeSiteNews) – The Pennsylvania legislature is poised to pass a sweeping pro-life bill, but Democrat Governor Tom Wolf has vowed to veto it.

Senate Bill 3 would protect pain-capable preborn babies starting at 20 weeks gestation, and would ban dismemberment abortions (dilation and evacuation).

Currently in Pennsylvania, unquestioned abortion-on-demand is legal to 24 weeks, after which some reason needs to be given. Dismembering the baby is the most popular method of second-trimester abortion.

While the bill allows an exception for the life of the mother, there are no “hard case” exceptions added to abort babies conceived in incest, rape, or diagnosed with Down Syndrome or other disabilities.

Planned Parenthood says these restrictions would be “disastrous” for women’s health.  The abortion behemoth began an anti-SB 3 campaign (and against the similar House Bill 77) to lobby lawmakers to defeat the bill.

“The proponents of this bill are hypocritical politicians who do not care about the health and safety of these women,” Planned Parenthood's website stated. Gov. Wolf concurred, characterizing the pro-life bill as an “attack on women” and “the most extreme anti-choice legislation in the country.”

The proposed law also requires better and more detailed documentation on abortions committed. Abortionists would be required to report all abortions.

They will also be required to include research-helpful facts like whether the baby’s father was notified of the abortion, and if not, why.

Reportedly, committee Chairman Matthew Baker is seeking passage before the Christmas break begins on December 15.

Various pro-life groups support the bill, including the Christian Medical Doctors and Dentists Association.

To better ensure a favorable vote, Republicans replaced a committee member who opposed the bill.

The legislation would charge violating abortionists with a third-degree felony.

If passed, the bill would head to the full House for a vote.
