Pope’s comments on gay civil unions cause shockwaves around the world

Pro-LGBT priest Fr. James Martin, meanwhile, warned faithful Catholic bishops to 'rethink their positions.'

October 22, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) — Pope Francis’s remarks supporting homosexual civil unions, aired yesterday in the premiere of the documentary Francesco, have caused a worldwide stir, arousing backlash, celebration, and confusion all at once.

“What we have to create is a civil union law,” Pope Francis is reported to have said in what is arguably his clearest statement of public support for a practice morally prohibited by official Catholic Church teaching.

Cardinal Raymond Burke today released a statement on Pope Francis’s remarks in which he said, “It is a source of deepest sadness and pressing pastoral concern that the private opinions reported with so much emphasis by the press and attributed to Pope Francis do not correspond to the constant teaching of the Church, as it is expressed in Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition.”

Cardinal Gerhard Müller commented, “Where there is tension between the plain and obvious Word of God and the infallible interpretation on the one hand, and private expressions of opinion even by the highest church authorities on the other, the principle always applies: in dubio pro DEO [When in doubt, be in favor of God].”

It’s not just the usual critics of Pope Francis’s provocative statements who are speaking out.

Catholic theologian and apologist Scott Hahn, without directly quoting Pope Francis, yesterday shared on Facebook the “Letter to the Bishops of the Catholic Church on the Pastoral Care of Homosexual Persons,” published by the CDF in 1986, with the statement: “Holy Father, respectfully and humbly, I beg to differ... if that is indeed what you said. In any case, please clarify and rectify your statement, especially in view of the official teaching of our Lord through the magisterium of His Church.”

Meanwhile, Pope Francis’s remarks have received notable support from U.N. secretary general António Guterres. In an interview with the Associated Press on October 21, he said, “This is a clear demonstration of a fundamental principle, which is the principle of non-discrimination. And one of the things that has been very clear in the UN doctrine on this is that non-discrimination is also relevant in terms of sexual orientation so of course this issue of the pope is extremely welcome from our perspective.”

Father James Martin, controversially known as one of the most outspoken advocates for Church acceptance of homosexuality, told CNN yesterday, “The bishops who are many in different countries who are sort of violently against civil unions are going to have to rethink their positions.”

“[Pope Francis] may have in a sense, as we say in the church, developed his own doctrine. We have to reckon with the fact that the head of the church has now said that he feels that civil unions are ok. And we can’t dismiss that. This is a kind of teaching that he is giving us,” Fr. Martin continued.

The fact that the pope, historically known as the “vicar of Christ” — although Pope Francis has distanced himself from that title — has publicly broken with Catholic moral teaching is, naturally, a source of confusion, as Bishop Thomas Tobin wryly noted in a tweet yesterday: “Popes John Paul and Benedict, in formal teaching said that same-sex civil unions were wrong and that Catholics had to oppose them. Pope Francis, in a movie, said that same-sex civil unions were helpful and should be promoted.  So, I ask, how could there possibly be any confusion?”

The responses to this tweet merely drive his point home.

One Twitter user responded, “Because Pope Francis is Our current Pope and to disregard him is to ignore God’s update. Not kidding.”

Another said, “The Holy Father’s word is law. You should obey, Bishop.”

Michael Heinlein, editor of Simplycatholic.com, responded by tweeting a quote by Cardinal Francis George: “Same-sex unions are incompatible with the teaching that has kept the Church united to her Lord for two thousand years.”

The confusion is even more powerfully demonstrated by the front cover of today’s “highest circulation UK newspaper,” Metro, shared by Edward Pentin on Twitter. It reads: “Pope Blesses Gay Weddings.” While support of homosexual civil unions already contradicts Church teaching — some, including Pope Francis himself — draw moral distinctions between homosexual civil unions and homosexual “marriage.” Metro’s claim that Pope Francis has blessed or in any way approved “gay weddings” is flat-out incorrect.

Adding “intrigue” to the airing of Pope Francis’s statements is an exchange between Rev. Antonio Spadaro, one of Pope Francis’s leading communications advisers, and the Associated Press.

According to the Associated Press, Spadaro “insisted the pope’s comments were old news, saying they were made during a May 2019 interview with Mexican broadcaster Televisa.”

As he exited the premiere of the film Francesco, Spadaro told the AP, “There’s nothing new because it’s a part of that interview. It seems strange that you don’t remember.”

“But Televisa didn’t air those comments when it broadcast the interview — nor did the Vatican when it put out its recordings of it,” the AP said.

Poland bans eugenic abortion, possibly saving over 1K babies per year

In 2019, 1,074 sick children were legally killed in the womb in Poland, including 435 children with Down syndrome.

POLAND, October 22, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) — Today, on October 22, 2020, the Polish Constitutional Tribunal issued a ruling that the provision in the act allowing "abortion in the case of a high probability of severe and irreversible impairment of the fetus or an incurable disease that threatens the fetus" is inconsistent with the Polish Constitution, which was permitted since 1993 until the time when the conceived child reaches the age when it is able to survive outside the mother's body, in practice up to the 24th week of pregnancy.

This ruling makes abortion for eugenic reasons illegal in Poland!

The verdict was delivered in full bench. Two judges submitted dissenting opinions.

The petition to the Constitutional Tribunal in this case was a cross-party parliamentary initiative. One hundred nineteen deputies and deputies from three different parliamentary clubs, eight political parties, and non-party members signed the application.

The ruling states that the above point of the act is inconsistent with Art. 38 of the constitution, which states that the Republic of Poland provides every human being with legal protection of life, and Art. 30, which reads: The inherent and inalienable dignity of man is the source of human and civil freedom and rights. It is inviolable and its respect and protection is the responsibility of public authorities.

On the other hand, Art. 31, Sec. 3 of the Constitution stipulates that restrictions on the exercise of constitutional rights and freedoms may be established only by statute and only if they are necessary in a democratic state for its safety or public order, or for the protection of the environment, public health and morality, or freedom and the rights of others. These limitations cannot affect the substance of freedoms and rights.

The act on family planning, protection of the human fetus, and conditions for termination of pregnancy, in force since 1993, has so far allowed for abortion in three cases. One of them was the high probability of a severe and irreversible impairment of the fetus or an incurable life-threatening disease.

Following the judgment of the Constitutional Tribunal in the 1993 Family Planning Act, the provisions on the permissibility of abortion when pregnancy poses a threat to a woman's life or health or when the pregnancy resulted from a prohibited act remain.

Thus, the selection of unborn children due to their disability, disease, or genetic defect ended. In 2019, 1,074 sick children were legally killed in the womb in Poland, including 435 children with Down syndrome, a number that multiplied with each passing year.

The debate was preceded by a novena in defense of the lives of sick children and night vigils. Pro-life movements celebrate and emphasize the great historic importance of this decision. Ewa Kowalewska from HLI-Polska emphasizes that the eugenic selection of people in Poland will finally end, and prenatal tests will be conducted in order to actually help and treat the child in the womb. It will also end the terrible pressure on pregnant women to agree to kill their possibly sick children. She also points out that abortion in the 20th to 23rd week of pregnancy poses a great threat to the physical health of the mother, and the mental and spiritual consequences last for life. There will also be no outrageous situations, when a live-born child aborted in the 23rd week of pregnancy due to suspicion of disease, is abandoned on the hospital shelf without assistance so that he dies as soon as possible.

Pro-abortion activists are raising a scream. They talk about "women's hell" and the use of torture and are looking for supporters and helpers from left-wing parties in the European Parliament to attack Poland, which dared to rationally, matter-of-factly, and legally defend human rights to life, including a sick child in prenatal age.

Vatican hosts award ceremony for gay director of film in which Pope endorsed gay civil unions

October 22, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) — Filmmaker Evgeny Afineevsky, whose new documentary Francesco on Pope Francis made headlines across the globe for the Holy Father’s comments on homosexuality and what appeared to be an endorsement of homosexual civil unions, was honored earlier today with an award in the Vatican gardens. Afineevsky is a homosexual himself.

Afineevsky, who is gay, had expressed surprise after the premiere that the pope’s comments had created such a stir, saying Francis wasn’t trying to change doctrine but was merely expressing his belief gay people should enjoy the same rights as heterosexuals,” the Associated Press (AP) reported.

It is not yet clear how and why Afineevsky and Pope Francis started collaborating in the production of the documentary. In 2009, the Russian-born filmmaker released his feature directorial debut “Oy Vey! My Son Is Gay!” The movie received numerous awards from organizations supporting homosexuality.

A romantic comedy featuring a Jewish family who struggles coming to terms with their son’s non-Jewish and gay boyfriend,” IMDb summarized the storyline. “When the gay couple adopts a child and it makes headline news, their families come to defend them and realize how much they love them.”

In the documentary released yesterday, Pope Francis said, “Homosexuals have a right to be a part of the family. They’re children of God and have a right to a family. Nobody should be thrown out, or be made miserable because of it.”

As first reported by the Catholic News Agency (CNA), the Pope also said, “What we have to create is a civil union law. That way they are legally covered. I stood up for that.”

Earlier today, Afineevsky received an award for his documentary in the Vatican gardens. The ceremony was attended by some Vatican officials. Generally, the award ceremony, which appears to be hosted by the Italian government, takes place in Venice.

I’m so proud that finally ‘Francesco’ is on its way to the world to change hearts and minds,” the filmmaker said, CNA reported. “I’m happy that I can bring the voices of the Rohingya refugees, refugees from Syria, voices of victims of sexual abuse, voices from different points and from different corners of the world. Something that Pope Francis really cares [about] and something that is really deeply in my heart.”

AP pointed to another element of confusion regarding the Pope’s comments on homosexuality, suggesting that he could have made those remarks during a 2019 interview with Mexican broadcaster Televisa. The interview “was never broadcast in its entirety.”

Televisa has not confirmed that the comments were made during its interview, but the scene of the documentary is identical to the Televisa interview, including the yellow background, a chair in the corner and slightly off-center placement of the chain of Francis’ pectoral cross,” the article pointed out.

The official 2019 Vatican News transcript of that interview, as well as the official Vatican edit, contains no such comment on the need for legal protections for civil unions. The official edit does include his comments on the need for gay people to feel they are part of a family, as he has said previously.”

According to the article, “some version of the footage was apparently available in the Vatican archives, which were opened to filmmaker Evgeny Afineevsky.”

However, Afineevsky, when pressed by reporters late Wednesday, said the pope made the comments to him directly, through a translator, but declined to say when,” AP added.

The Holy Father’s comments, regardless of their origin, were praised by secular observers all over the world. For instance, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, said the statement “is, of course, extremely welcome from our perspective.”

At the same time, several cardinals and bishops have come out defending traditional Church teaching on homosexuality.

Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, Tradition has always declared that ‘homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered’ … inasmuch as they are contrary to the natural law, closed to the gift of life and void of a true affective and sexual complementarity. Therefore, they cannot be approved,” explained Cardinal Raymond Burke.

The faithful, and, in particular, Catholic politicians are held to oppose the legal recognition of homosexual unions,” he continued. “The right to form a family is not a private right to vindicate but must correspond to the plan of the Creator Who has willed the human being in sexual difference, ‘male and female He created them’ (Gen 1, 27), thus calling man, male and female, to the transmission of life.”

“‘Because married couples ensure the succession of generations and are therefore eminently within the public interest, civil law grants them institutional recognition. Homosexual unions, on the other hand, do not need specific attention from the legal standpoint since they do not exercise this function for the common good.’ To speak of a homosexual union, in the same sense as the conjugal union of the married, is, in fact, profoundly misleading, because there can be no such union between persons of the same sex.”

Burke said the statements in the documentary Francesco “do not correspond to the constant teaching of the Church, as it is expressed in Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition, and is guarded, protected and interpreted by the Magisterium. Equally sad and concerning is the turmoil, confusion, and error they cause among the Catholic faithful, as is the scandal they cause, in general, by giving the totally false impression that the Catholic Church has had a change of course, that is, has changed its perennial teaching regarding such fundamental and critical questions.”

Cardinal Gerhard Müller, the former prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, said, “I do not know the exact wording of the interview statement, which is ambiguous as so often. But the effect is fatal.”

The Catholic faithful are irritated, the enemies of the Church feel confirmed by the Vicar of our Lord Jesus Christ, whom they reject as the Son of God,” he summarized. “Instead of using theological and philosophical arguments of reason, they appeal to feelings, thus checkmating the rationality of faith with sentimentality.”

The present statement [of Pope Francis] is a purely private expression of opinion, which every Catholic can and should freely contradict,” Müller said.

During October of last year, it was in the Vatican gardens that Pope Francis was presented with a Pachamama statue as part of activities related to the Amazon Synod.

October 22, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) — The United States, in a coalition of 32 countries representing more than 1.6 billion people, today issued a declaration at the United Nations that there is “no international right to abortion.”

“On Thursday, October 22, Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo and HHS Secretary Alex Azar participated in the virtual signing of the Geneva Consensus Declaration, a historic document that further strengthens an ongoing coalition to achieve better health for women, the preservation of human life, support for the family as foundational to a healthy society, and the protection of national sovereignty in global politics,” a press release from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) reads.

Along with the United States the document was co-sponsored and signed by 32 countries including Brazil, Egypt, Hungary, Indonesia, and Uganda.

The opening words of the declaration explain its purpose as including expressing “the essential priority of protecting the right to life” and promoting “strength of the family and of a successful and flourishing society.”

Point 3 of the declaration states that the ministers and high representatives of Governments “[r]eaffirm the inherent ‘dignity and worth of the human person,’ that ‘every human being has the inherent right to life,’ and the commitment ‘to enable women to go safely through pregnancy and childbirth and provide couples with the best chance of having a healthy infant.’”

Point 4 of the declaration states that the signatories “[e]mphasize that ‘in no case should abortion be promoted as a method of family planning’ and that ‘any measures or changes related to abortion within the health system can only be determined at the national or local level according to the national legislative process.’”

The declaration further reaffirms that “‘the child … needs special safeguards and care … before as well as after birth’ and ‘special measures of protection and assistance should be taken on behalf of all children,’ based on the principle of the best interest of the child.”

“Under President Trump’s leadership, the United States has defended the dignity of human life everywhere and always. He’s done it like no other President in history,” Secretary Pompeo said.

“We’ve also mounted an unprecedented defense of the unborn abroad … Today, we’re taking the next step, as we sign the Geneva Consensus Declaration. At its very core, the Declaration protects women’s health, defends the unborn, and reiterates the vital importance of the family as the foundation of society.”

Austin Ruse, president of the U.N. human rights watchdog organization C-Fam, had high praise for the Trump administration and the U.S.’s s co-signers:

C-Fam has worked for 24 years toward the declaration made by the Trump administration today together with a coalition of 32 UN Member States. There is no international right to abortion. There is no international obligation to fund abortion. The United Nations has no business interfering in sovereign decisions when it comes to protecting life in the womb.

C-Fam heartily congratulates the Trump administration and the 32 sovereign states around the world who signed on to the Geneva Consensus Declaration for defending life, family, and sovereignty. We salute President Trump, Secretary Mike Pompeo, and Secretary Alex Azar. We thank Garrett Grigsby and Valerie Huber of HHS for their hard work to deliver this result.

The Trump administration has consistently worked to defend life and oppose abortion at the United Nations, from resisting pro-abortion agenda items and resolution language to affirming that abortion isn’t a human right and promoting abstinence education. Earlier this year, Trump announced that the U.S. would cut ties with the pro-abortion World Health Organization (WHO) due to its handling of the coronavirus crisis.

Secretary Azar said that the declaration is the administration putting down “a clear marker” in opposition to “a radical agenda” often pursued by U.N. agencies.

“The Declaration is much more than a statement of beliefs — it is a critical and useful tool to defend these principles across all United Nations bodies and at every multilateral setting, using language previously agreed to by member states of those bodies,” the HHS Secretary said.

“Without apology, we affirm that governments have the sovereign right to make their own laws to protect innocent life and write their regulations on abortion,” Azar continued.

“The stakes are too high to permit radical, divisive agendas to hinder the ability of women in countries at all stages of development to attain better health.”

Azar said that the coalition of signatories to the declaration will denounce “organizations when they overstep their mandates by promoting positions that can never gain consensus” and that they will “unequivocally declare that there is no international right to abortion.”

DECLARATION IN FULL

On Promoting Women’s Health and Strengthening the Family:

We, ministers and high representatives of Governments,

Having intended to gather on the margins of the 2020 World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland to review progress made and challenges to uphold the right to the highest attainable standards of health for women; to promote women’s essential contribution to health, and strength of the family and of a successful and flourishing society; and to express the essential priority of protecting the right to life, committing to coordinated efforts in multilateral fora; despite our inability to meet in Geneva due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, in solidarity, we

1. Reaffirm “all are equal before the law,” and “human rights of women are an inalienable, integral, and indivisible part of all human rights and fundamental freedoms”;

2. Emphasize “the equal right of men and women to the enjoyment of all civil and political rights,” as well as economic, social, and cultural rights; and the “equal rights, opportunities and access to resources and equal sharing of responsibilities for the family by men and women and a harmonious partnership between them are critical to their well-being and that of their families”; and that “women and girls must enjoy equal access to quality education, economic resources, and political participation as well as equal opportunities with men and boys for employment, leadership and decision-making at all levels;”

3. Reaffirm the inherent “dignity and worth of the human person,” that “every human being has the inherent right to life,” and the commitment “to enable women to go safely through pregnancy and childbirth and provide couples with the best chance of having a healthy infant”;

4. Emphasize that “in no case should abortion be promoted as a method of family planning” and that “any measures or changes related to abortion within the health system can only be determined at the national or local level according to the national legislative process”;  Reaffirm that “the child… needs special safeguards and care… before as well as after birth” and “special measures of protection and assistance should be taken on behalf of all children,” based on the principle of the best interest of the child;

5. Reaffirm that “the family is the natural and fundamental group unit of society and is entitled to protection by society and the State”; that “motherhood and childhood are entitled to special care and assistance,” that “women play a critical role in the family” and women’s “contribution to the welfare of the family and to the development of society”;

6. Recognize that “universal health coverage is fundamental for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals related not only to health and well-being,” with further recognition that “health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity” that “the predominant focus of health-care systems on treating illness rather than maintaining optimal health also prevents a holistic approach”; and that there are “needs that exist at different stages in an individual’s lifespan” which together support optimal health across the life course, entailing the provision of the necessary information, skills, and care for achieving the best possible health outcomes and reaching full human potential; and

7. “Reaffirm the importance of national ownership and the primary role and responsibility of governments at all levels to determine their own path towards achieving universal health coverage, in accordance with national contexts and priorities,” preserving human dignity and all the rights and freedoms set forth in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Furthermore, we, the representatives of our sovereign nations do hereby declare in mutual friendship and respect, our commitment to work together to:

  • Ensure the full enjoyment of all human rights and equal opportunity for women at all levels of political, economic, and public life;

  • Improve and secure access to health and development gains for women, including sexual and reproductive health, which must always promote optimal health, the highest attainable standard of health, without including abortion;

  • Reaffirm that there is no international right to abortion, nor any international obligation on the part of States to finance or facilitate abortion, consistent with the long-standing international consensus that each nation has the sovereign right to implement programs and activities consistent with their laws and policies;

  • Build our health system capacity and mobilize resources to implement health and development programs that address the needs of women and children in situations of vulnerability and advance universal health coverage;

  • Advance supportive public health policies for women and girls as well as families, including building our healthcare capacity and mobilizing resources within our own countries, bilaterally, and in multilateral fora;

  • Support the role of the family as foundational to society and as a source of health, support, and care; and

  • Engage across the UN system to realize these universal values, recognizing that individually we are strong, but together we are stronger.

Pinterest whistleblower: I saw how Bible verses, pro-life messages were suppressed

'The pro-life position freaks out the establishment the most,' Eric Cochran said.

October 22, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) — Eric Cochran was fired from his job as a software engineer at Pinterest in 2019 for exposing how they censored pro-life voices.

Cochran, who now works for James O’Keefe at Project Veritas, is calling on Christians to work in Big Tech so the truth can get out about abortion.

“What they're doing is the most dangerous thing for our country, because, especially when it comes to the pro-life position, this is the battle for hundreds of millions of lives,” Cochran explained to LifeSite today.

Cochran, a Christian himself, revealed how Pinterest specifically banned Live Action, the pro-life group lead by activist Lila Rose.

Pinterest added them “to a pornography blacklist in order to prevent people from posting Live Action links. I also saw the suppression of things like Bible verses of Christian quotes,” he said.

Cochran was speaking to LifeSite for its final installment for the hit original series Uncensored: Big Tech vs. Free Speech. Watch all previous interviews of the Uncensored series by clicking here. LifeSite has already sat down with leaders at the Media Research Center, the Susan B. Anthony List, and Breitbart.

Cochran further explained that the tech establishment has a particular “disdain” for pro-life, conservative Americans.

“The pro-life position freaks out the establishment the most because it is the essential part of life. It is the essential part of what it means to be human, of humans having intrinsic value from their creator.”

“Ultimately, the establishment wants to destroy life,” he said. “We’re facing forces that their end goal is destruction, not creation. It is destroying God's image.”

Cochran was interviewed by Tucker Carlson after he was fired by Pinterest in 2019. Read LifeSite’s coverage of that interview by clicking here. Today, he told LifeSite that Big Tech is a major threat to our civil liberties.

“This is the battle…about free speech, about a basic American principle…a lot of people in Big Tech thought that they made a huge mistake by allowing people to spread information online and to be able to bypass the media.”

Cochran concluded by calling on young people to essentially infiltrate the industry and use it as a force for good.

“If you're at college and you're thinking about going in tech, do it because we need Christians and we need pro lifers inside of major institutions. We need them in positions of influence…make money, build friends, build relationships, take over institutions. It's what our adversaries have done over the last hundreds of years…we need Christians, frankly, to be in these positions of power.”

In Pakistan, 14-yr-old rape victim dies after forced late-term abortion

The girl, named Uzma, had been repeatedly raped over a period of several months.

OKARA, Pakistan, October 22, 2020 (LifeSiteNews A 14-year-old rape victim has died of complications due to a forced late-term abortion of her unborn child late last week in Okara, Punjab in Pakistan.

Hospitals officials confirmed that the girl, named Uzma, had been repeatedly raped by her uncle over a period of several months. The Daily Mail reports that the same uncle who she was living with at the time, together with his wife, have been arrested following a complaint made by her father

Uzma reportedly became pregnant after her uncle repeatedly sexually assaulted her, and her aunt and uncle then forced her to get a late-term abortion.

Abortion at six months is only legal in Pakistan if the mother’s life is in danger. Because of the advanced stage of the pregnancy, the abortion was botched and the girl was taken to a hospital where she died of complications.

The government in Pakistan is reportedly cracking down on child sex offenders and rapists after a gang rape of a woman in front of her children in September. Federal government officials are calling for legislative changes that would create a national data base and harsher sentences for sex offenders, The Express Tribune reported in mid-September.

However, the Human Rights Watch lobby group recently reported many incidents of honor killings” in the majority-Muslim country by male family members despite an anti-honor killing law having been introduced in 2016.

“The recent spate in ‘honor’ killings demonstrates that harsher punishments do not automatically translate into justice for women,” the New York-based group states.

The authorities should ensure that police impartially investigate ‘honor’ killings without bowing to political or other pressure from religious and local leaders, including jirgas. The government should also ensure women and girls have access to safe emergency shelter and other services, especially protection, when they report risks from their family.”

In countries where sexual violence, honor killings, and abuse towards women are commonplace, it is not a stretch of the imagination to conclude coerced and forced abortions are too.

In May 2018, a 19-year-old Pakistani student named Farah became pregnant while studying in Italy. She was lured to her home in Pakistan under the guise of a family wedding. Once there, she was reportedly forced to have an abortion. Farah subsequently fled to the Italian embassy and sought asylum in Italy. Farah later told Italian media: They sedated me, tied me to a bed and forced me to have an abortion.”

WASHINGTON, D.C., October 22, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) — Seven pro-life activists were arrested this morning for staging a “Traditional Rescue” and blocking access to Washington Surgi-Clinic in the nation’s capital, an abortion center infamous for offering late, second trimester abortions.

The term “rescue” refers to people blocking access to an abortion center to prevent unborn babies from being killed, or entering the waiting room and directly interacting with mothers who are scheduled for an abortion.

The group was composed of 23 people from different religious and political leanings, all united in the purpose of shutting down the facility for the day. Rescuers blocked the entrances of the abortion facility’s doors and stationed themselves around the complex, to form a physical block on access to the building.

Once inside, the rescuers sought to offer help to families who were seeking abortion, counselling them to change their minds about aborting their babies, praying with them, and informing them on local resource centers.

Lauren Handy, who led today’s rescue and has been arrested multiple times during non-violent direct actions, stated, “I can’t wait for the possible overturning of Roe when this morning 15 plus children are scheduled to die. We are no longer having a debate with evil but confronting it head on — today we are using our bodies as shields to protect our pre-born siblings from abortion.”

At the time of writing, ten police cars are on scene, and seven of the rescuers have been arrested. Joan Andrews Bell, a veteran of such rescues, was one of those arrested, along with Lauren Handy.

The Washington Surgi-Clinic is one of 18 abortion mills in the DC metropolitan area.

Cesare F. Santangelo, the abortionist at the facility, is well known for providing late 2nd trimester abortions and has a history of medical malpractice. In 2011, he was the subject of a lawsuit filed by the family of a woman who died as a result of his medical negligence during an abortion.

On another occasion in 2013, Santangelo left a newborn baby to die after the baby survived the abortion procedure. An undercover investigator for Live Action captured chilling footage in which Santangelo described the abortion procedure and how he would ensure a baby born alive would not be given the legally required medical treatment to survive.

Dr. Monica Miller, the director of Citizens for a Pro-Life Society and leader of Red Rose Rescue, gave a statement regarding today’s rescue: “When someone’s life is in danger there is a moral obligation to do what we can to come to the aid of that person. Everyone with a true conscience knows this is true. This is exactly what pro-lifers do when they engage in a rescue activity. The rescuers are offering help, support and love in the midst of killing, death and despair.”

Miller’s Red Rose Rescue recently staged a rescue at a Planned Parenthood abortion facility in Shrewsbury, New Jersey. The organization was, however, not responsible for today’s rescue in Washington, D.C.

Commenting on the activists today risking being charged with a felony under the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act, which makes it a federal crime to physically obstruct the entrance to an abortion business, Jonathan Darnel said, “Abortion is murder and we need to start acting like it. This is a small step in the right direction.”

Chris Cuomo supports mask mandates, but refuses to follow his apartment building’s

A leaked letter from Chris Cuomo's New York City apartment building’s management cites the CNN anchor for refusing to follow the executive order, which was issued by his brother Gov. Andrew Cuomo. ‘There are no exceptions to this rule,’ it says.

NEW YORK, October 22, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) – Tucker Carlson has called out CNN anchor Chris Cuomo for insisting to his viewers wearing a mask is of utmost importance but refusing to wear one himself.

Carlson presented his depiction of Cuomo: “If there was a shrine to the patron saint of paper surgical masks somewhere in the countryside of Portugal, Chris Cuomo would go there each summer. He would crawl on his knees if he had to, such is his devotion.”

Yet regardless of this apparent very public devotion to masks, Cuomo has been threatened with a $500 fine for his own repeated refusal to wear one. Carlson has obtained a copy of an August letter sent to Cuomo by the management of his apartment building in New York City, which rebukes him for moving around the building without a mask.

The letter begins: “Dear Mr. Cuomo, as I am sure you know, because of the ongoing COVID-19 health crisis, on April 15, 2020 Governor Cuomo issued Executive Order 202.17, which requires anyone over the age of two to wear a face mask or cloth that covers their mouth and nose while in a public space.”

Carlson interjected, “It’s a fair guess that Chris Cuomo already knew that because after all, he's the mask guy. And, of course, his own brother issued the order.” However, in spite of this and despite Cuomo’s own frequent calls on air for the public to wear masks, he has ignored his own advice.

The letter continues: “You have been observed entering and exiting the building and riding the elevator without the required face coverings. Even though staff members have asked you to comply with this requirement, you have refused to do so. This is a violation of the Executive Order, building policy, and it places other residents and our staff at risk. There are no exceptions to this rule and you are required to comply.”

Fox News reports that they called the building manager, who confirmed writing the letter.

This is not the first time that Chris Cuomo has been exposed for mask hypocrisy. On Easter Sunday, April 12, he was seen out cycling near his home, despite having announced that he had tested positive for COVID-19 on March 31. The presenter was challenged by another cyclist for not self-isolating, to which he replied, “What the hell do you know about this? What do you know about the rules?”

Cuomo later recalled the event in his Sirius XM radio show, terming the cyclist as “some jackass, loser, fat tire biker.” Some weeks later, Cuomo shared a video on his CNN show, in which he “officially” left his basement quarantine where he had supposedly been for “weeks.”

The CNN host has frequently urged people to wear masks, even stating that mask wearing “should be a choice, until you don’t make the right choice.” He also lambasted Vice President Mike Pence for not wearing a mask during his April visit to the Mayo Clinic.

Cuomo recently went on a rant against President Donald Trump, after the footage aired showing the president waving from the White House balcony without a mask. Cuomo stated: “He takes off his mask while he’s still infected, like that’s some show of strength. It’s weak as it gets.”

So prolific is Cuomo’s pro-mask preaching, that Carlson even styles Cuomo as “this country’s foremost and most fearless defender of mask goodness.”

Despite the numerous state mandates to wear a mask, their effectiveness has been proven to be minimal at best. Even the World Health Organization declared that “the widespread use of masks by healthy people in the community setting is not yet supported by high quality or direct scientific evidence and there are potential benefits and harms to consider.”

Alex Berenson, a former journalist for the New York Timestold Carlson in an interview that “Masks have become a talisman” despite offering no real benefit to the wearer.

Carlson himself recently warned that masks are being used to promote liberal hysteria and force people into submission. In reference to mandatory masks outside, he claimed, “Rules like that are not about public health. Rules like that are a form of obedience training. They’re trying to see what they can make you do.”

WATCH: ‘Biden crime family’ made vice presidency a ‘commodity,’ Giuliani argues

Giuliani, who is President Donald Trump’s personal attorney, released a video Friday making the case that the 'Biden family was engaging in the business of crime,' with 'their commodity' being 'Joe’s public office.'

October 22, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) – Confirmation of Hunter Biden’s shady dealings with Ukranian energy firm Burisma is only the tip of the revelations to come about former Vice President Joe Biden and his family profiting off foreign connections, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani says in a new video on the contents of a laptop formerly belonging to the Democrat presidential nominee’s troubled son.

Last week, the New York Post released the first in a series of bombshell reports about a laptop belonging to Hunter Biden, which was delivered to a Delaware computer repair shop and then neglected. The laptop contained scores of emails and texts indicating that Hunter introduced his father to Vadym Pozharskyi, a top adviser to Burisma’s board, less than a year before the elder Biden openly pressured the Ukrainian government to fire a prosecutor tasked with investigating the company; as well as Hunter making millions off a deal to introduce representatives of a Chinese energy company to his father.

Giuliani, who is President Donald Trump’s personal attorney and became involved in the story when his own attorney acted as an intermediary between the repair shop owner and the Post, released a video Friday making the case that the “Biden family was engaging in the business of crime,” with “their commodity” being “Joe’s public office.”

One of the examples the video highlights began with former President Barack Obama tasking the former vice president with negotiating the terms of America’s withdrawal from Iraq, including the retention of enough US troops to curb Iran’s designs on the region. While Biden failed the policy objective in Giuliani’s view, his “family came out of it really good.”

“James, his brother who had no experience in housing, was all of a sudden miraculously made part of a 1.5 billion dollar...housing deal in China, in Iraq, and of course like Hunter, James had no experience in building houses, he was a sleazy lobbyist on K Street,” Giuliani said. “Every time it would come up Joe would say ‘I don't know my family's business.’ After a while that becomes kind of an incredible answer, doesn't it? The money goes to his brother, and as you will see, about half that money will end up in the pocket of Joe Biden.”

Investigative journalist Peter Schweitzer, who specializes in political corruption, has written at length about James Biden’s housing deal, along with how other members of the Biden family made money through government connections.

Giuliani conceded that the second transaction is “a little cloudy” because he had yet to review all the relevant material, but concerns a $3.5 million wire transfer Hunter received from Elena Baturina, widow of former Moscow mayor Yury Luzhkov. The existence of this transfer was first revealed last month by a joint report by the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee and the Senate Finance Committee.

“So when you think of that 3.5 million dollars, I want you to remember it's coming from one of [Russian president Vladimir] Putin's allies,” Giuliani stressed. “No Republican got any money from Russia; these characters got 3.5 million dollars from Putin's best friend and the press doesn't care.”

Giuliani also teased the “biggest” example, which is “going to develop over the next couple weeks,” concerns business deals between members of the Biden family and members of the Chinese Communist Party.

“So when Joe Biden took his son over to China on Air Force Two, Joe Biden went there again to help the United States to have the Chinese move out of the islands they had militarized and to give us some relief on tariffs and intellectual property, I don't have to tell you Joe failed,” Giuliani said. “Hunter, however, did really well for the Biden crime family because when Hunter returned to New York, within eight days of returning he got a letter from the Bank of China who pledged one billion to his completely crooked private equity firm made up of him, John Kerry's stepson [Christopher Heinz] Devon Archer, who's since been convicted of fraud, and Whitey Bulger's nephew.”

“No one but nobody raised the issue of how this imperils on national security if the vice president is compromised like this,” Giuliani said, noting that Biden has downplayed the idea that China poses a threat to the United States.

While the Biden campaign has denied impropriety on the candidate’s part, Fox News reports that one of the participants in an email chain pertaining to Chinese energy firm CEFC has confirmed its accuracy, and Fox has obtained documents that appear to include Hunter Biden’s signature on a bill from the computer repair shop.

Further, Biden and his surrogates have yet to deny that the emails themselves are real. During a Monday interview, Biden campaign spokeswoman Jenna Arnold admitted, “I don’t think anybody’s saying that they are inauthentic or not.”

Communion on the tongue safer than Communion in the hand: Polish doctors

In an open letter, a number of Polish doctors warned the bishops and the faithful that receiving Holy Communion in the hand is more dangerous than the traditional practice.

WARSAW, Poland, October 22, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) — A group of Polish doctors warned that reception of Holy Communion in the hand is dangerous.

The open letter to the Catholic Church in Poland, published in the most recent weekend edition of Catholic newspaper Nasz Dziennik (“Our Daily”) and addressed to “the bishops, priests, and brothers and sisters in the faith of the Catholic Church,” and signed by over 60 medical experts, the doctors say they are concerned by the new practice.

Receiving communion in the hand was not the norm in majority-Catholic Poland before the coronavirus crisis. However, in an October 6 statement, the bishops “recalled that people who, for various reasons, wished to receive Holy Communion in their hands with faith and veneration, cannot be accused of disrespecting the Eucharist. The Holy See accepts this way of giving the faithful the Lord’s Body as worthy.”

The doctors now wrote, “We are concerned about the fact that in recent months there has been encouragement on the part of priests (and even orders in some parishes) to receive communion on the hand as a more hygienic method that allegedly protects the faithful from SARS-CoV-2.”

“We don’t know on what basis, particularly on what scientific research, such a thesis was built, or which medical premises confirm it,” they added.

“We believe, from the medical point of view, that one can’t treat giving Holy Communion in the hand as a method much safer than receiving Holy Communion by mouth.”

The doctors pointed out that hands are the “point of contact” between human bodies and their surroundings. Many experts have emphasized the existence of multiple micro-organisms that could include pathogens on hands, they noted, and listed both the germs and their unpleasant effects on the human body.

“Even if we splash disinfectant on our hands before entering church, we have to remember that during Mass they touch things or places we haven’t disinfected: pews, clothing, glasses, hair and even money (the home of many germs) folded in the [offering basket],” they warned.

The doctors are also concerned by the modern practice of communicants standing face-to-face with the person administering the Blessed Sacrament.

“From the epidemiological point of view, we must warn that the standing position also encourages the spread of infection as it makes the priest and communicant more vulnerable to mutual infection,” they wrote.

Image
Original text of the open letter

They observe that either could infect the other with airborne droplets moving from one mouth or nose to the other’s, or even through the eyes. Therefore, they recommend that all communicants receive Communion as far as possible from the priest’s face: they suggest kneeling.

“It should be stated, from the medical point of view, that the giving of Holy Communion directly in the mouth and in the kneeling position is a decidedly safer and more appropriate method than receiving Holy Communion in the hand and standing,” they said and made a dramatic appeal:

“Out of concern for the health of the faithful, we wish to appeal strongly to the Polish Episcopate, to bishops and all priests, for a swift return to administering the Body of Christ on the tongue [to those] in a kneeling position.”

The lead signers of the document were three pathologists from the Medical University of Białystock: Dr. Marek Baltaziak, Dr. Maria Elżbieta Sobaniec-Łotowska, and Dr. Stanisław Sulkowski.

In September, 27 German doctors gave similar advice to the German bishops, declaring that there are “no medical reasons for a ban of Communion on the tongue.”

Like the Polish doctors, the Germans pointed out that hands are very easily contaminated and that face-to-face Communion is more dangerous that receiving Communion kneeling at a distance from the priest’s face. They noted also that if a priest should accidently touch a communicant’s tongue, he can disinfect his fingers immediately afterwards.

Professor compares bishop’s rejection of ‘pre-eminence’ of abortion to complicity in Nazi atrocities

'In eighty or ninety years,' wrote Prof. Randall Smith, 'will future U.S. bishops be ... confessing,' as the German bishops recently did, 'the 'complicity' of their predecessors who did not do enough to oppose the abortion regime?''

SAN DIEGO, October 22, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) — Bishop Robert W. McElroy of San Diego recently gave an interview in which he claimed, “To say abortion is the pre-eminent issue in a particular political season is to reduce the common good, in effect, to one issue. And that’s a distortion of Catholic teaching.”

“My concern [is] that when you say abortion is the pre-eminent issue we face as a nation, you are setting up an election choice,” said McElroy.

Theology professor Randall Smith, in an article from The Catholic Thing, compared Bishop McElroy’s refusal to decisively condemn pro-abortion policy and politicians to the complicity of German bishops who refused to condemn the Nazi regime.

Bishop McElroy explained his rejection of the “pre-eminence” of abortion as a voting issue to Sebastian Gomes of “Voting Catholic,” a “podcast from America Media that helps U.S. Catholics discern their vote in the upcoming presidential election.” Bishop McElroy commented on the USCCB statement: “The threat of abortion remains our preeminent priority because it directly attacks life itself,” in the document Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship: A Call to Political Responsibility.

Bishop McElroy described abortion as “one of several” pre-eminent issues to consider when voting, entreating Catholics to “read the whole document” of the USCCB.

“[It tells you to] look at climate change, which threatens to end the whole of humanity. Look at the divisions we have in our nation now, in terms of race and class, the undocumented. If someone reads through that with an open heart and wrestles with God, then that’s a great thing. But don’t pick one sentence out,” said Bishop McElroy.

He opposed the idea that abortion is “the primary moral issue” because “the issue of life is the foundation of the house of the common good.”

Bishop McElroy countered: “But I would say this: The house itself and the foundation rest on the earth, and the earth is at stake in climate change and in the care for creation. And so you don’t have a house and you don’t have a foundation if you don’t have the earth [or] a habitable place for our humanity.”

“When you are voting for candidates, you have to ask yourself in this particular moment, who is going to be better at achieving the common good? Your judgment is temporary,” said Bishop McElroy.

In his article “On the Nature of Complicity,” Randall Smith compared the gravity of abortion policy to the murderous policy of Nazi Germany.

He mentioned the 1933 Reichskonkordat between the Holy See and the German government, in which “Church leaders pledged to refrain from speaking out on issues not directly related to the Church.” Smith noted that last May, in a twenty-three-page public report, Germany’s Council of Catholic Bishops “admitted ‘complicity’ by their predecessors who did not do enough to oppose the rise of Nazi regime and its mistreatment of Jews.”

“In eighty or ninety years, will future U.S. bishops be submitting a similar document of their own, confessing the ‘complicity’ of their predecessors who did not do enough to oppose the abortion regime?”

“Who, in retrospect, would not look back in shame at a German bishop who called questioning the Catholic commitments of Catholic Nazi leaders ‘offensive because they constitute an assault on the meaning of what it is to be Catholic’? Because ‘being Catholic means loving the Church; being Catholic means participating in the sacramental life of the church; being a Catholic means trying to transform the world by the light of the Gospel’?”

“And yet those are the words of our own Bishop McElroy of San Diego about those who question Joe Biden’s Catholicism.”

“And we transform the world in the light of the Gospel how?  Is it not by opposing the killing of innocent human beings?”

DENVER, Colorado, October 22, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) — Two Colorado churches and their pastors are currently protected from the state’s enforcement of capacity limits and face masks during worship services thanks to an order handed down by a federal judge on October 15, 2020. This decision came following a lawsuit against federal and state officials for an array of religious freedom violations. Thomas More Society Special Counsel Rebecca Messall and co-counsel Brad Bergford, who are representing the congregations and their pastors, were pleased with the order.

Messall reports a favorable ruling from Judge Domenico for partially granting the relief sought by these houses of worship and their leaders, “The lawsuit calls both the federal government and Colorado leaders into account for their violations of the right to free exercise of religion, among other abuses of power, primarily resulting from Governor Jared Polis’ COVID-19 related Executive Orders.”

Denver Bible Church and its pastor, Robert Enyart, and Community Baptist Church and its pastor, Joey Rhoads, asked the court to enjoin enforcement of orders related to Colorado’s gubernatorially mandated capacity limits on worship services and face mask requirements.

Currently, Colorado imposes capacity limits on houses of worship that are more severe than those that apply to other so-called critical businesses whose settings pose a similar risk of COVID-19 transmission. The state also allows a variety of exceptions to its facial-covering requirement where it recognizes that removing a mask is necessary to carry out a particular activity.

The order, issued by the Honorable Daniel D. Domenico, states, “...the Constitution does not allow the State to tell a congregation how large it can be when comparable secular gatherings are not so limited, or to tell a congregation that its reason for wishing to remove facial coverings is less important than a restaurant’s or spa’s.”

Domenico also noted, “The First Amendment does not allow government officials, whether in the executive or judicial branch, to treat religious worship as any less critical or essential than other human endeavors. Nor does it allow the government to determine what is a necessary part of a house of worship’s religious exercise.”

The judge’s order prohibits Colorado officials from enforcing the state’s Executive Orders and Public Health Orders against the churches and pastors, in particular matters of occupancy limitations and face mask requirements during worship services.

New California COVID rules ban events longer than 2 hours, demand hosts collect contact info

CALIFORNIA, October 22, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) – The government of California has issued new COVID-19 restrictions limiting outside gatherings to no more than three households for a maximum of two hours and telling individuals to collect contact information for their friends and relatives for private social occasions.

“Gatherings that include more than 3 households are prohibited. This includes everyone present, including hosts and guests.  Remember, the smaller the number of people, the safer,” reads the  “Guidance for Private Gatherings,” issued by the California Department of Public Health on October 9.

“The host should collect names of all attendees and contact information in case contact tracing is needed later.”

The new California rules apply to private gatherings which the state defines as “social situations that bring together people from different households at the same time in a single space or place.”

“Gatherings should be two hours or less.  The longer the duration, the risk of transmission increases,” reads the guidelines.

The new guidelines state that “All persons planning to host or participate in a private gathering” must comply with the guidelines which include collecting the information of guests “in case” contact tracing is required.

The guidelines also state that households that interact with one another should be “stable over time” and that participating in “multiple gatherings with different households or groups” is strongly discouraged.

Indoor gatherings are banned, with the guidelines stating that “All gatherings must be held outside” and attendees can only go indoors to use the bathrooms.

Attendees at private gatherings must also practice “physical distancing” and are required to wear a mask, with the exception being to “briefly” remove the mask to eat or drink.

When it comes to having a private gathering in a public park, the same three household limit applies, “even if unrelated gatherings of other groups up to three households are also occurring in the same park or other outdoor space.”

“If multiple such gatherings are occurring, mixing between group gatherings is not allowed. Additionally, multiple gatherings of three households cannot be jointly organized or coordinated to occur in the same public park or other outdoor space at the same time – this would constitute a gathering exceeding the permitted size,” reads the guidelines.

The timing of the new California restrictions comes shortly after the World Health Organization (WHO) changed course, saying recently that world leaders should stop lockdowns.

The new rules for the sunshine state follow a Twitter message from California’s Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office, which called for people eating out to take off their masks in between bites of food.

Newsom has kept large parts of his state under some of the most extreme lockdown measures in the United States.

According to government data, at the time of writing there have been just over 17,000 deaths associated with COVID-19 in the state, which has a population of 39.5 million.

At the national level, government intrusion into private gatherings took center stage in remarks made by Dr. Anthony Fauci, the controversial top coronavirus adviser to President Donald Trump.

Fauci said last week that American families should consider “biting the bullet” in sacrificing their Thanksgiving holiday weekend this year because of COVID-19.

Obama praises young leftists creating ‘a new normal in America’

For months, Americans have watched Black Lives Matter (BLM) protests become 'fired up' in a much more literal sense, as arson, looting, and violence have swept through major cities.

October 22, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) – Former president Barack Obama released a video message Tuesday in support of his former vice president, Joe Biden, during which he described as “inspiring” this year’s wave of left-wing activism that has been characterized by violence.

“One of the most inspiring things about this year has been to see so many young Americans fired up, organizing, marching, and fighting for change,” Obama said. “Your generation can be the one that creates a new normal in America, one that’s fairer, where the system treats everybody equally, and gives everybody opportunity.”

Obama framed the impending presidential election as a “tipping point” for this movement, and stressed that “to change the game on any of the issues we care about, Joe Biden needs your vote.” After praising his former running mate, Obama closed by declaring that “your generation is going to change the game entirely.”

For months, Americans have watched Black Lives Matter (BLM) protests become “fired up” in a much more literal sense, as arson, looting, and violence have swept through major cities across the country in response to the death of a Minnesota black man at the hands of a white police officer. The officer was quickly charged with murder, but the incident still revived BLM’s narrative of “systemic racism” in law enforcement and throughout American society more generally.

As detailed by the U.S. Justice Department, New York shootings “have been on the rise since looting and protests began on or about May 28, 2020” (a 177% increase in July from the year before, and a 166% increase in August from the year before); prosecutors in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx refused to prosecute crimes stemming from the protests; city and state leaders “have forcefully rejected federal law enforcement support”; and city leaders “cut $1 billion from NYPD’s FY21 budget” during a time of “increased unrest, gun violence, and property damage,” causing “cancellation of the new police recruiting class, cuts to overtime spending, and the transfer of certain police functions, including school safety, out of the NYPD.”

Portland, the DOJ continued, has seen “100 consecutive nights of protests marred by vandalism, chaos, and even killing,” including arson, injuries to police, and a 140% spike in shootings from the previous year. Amid it all, the city “cut $15 million from the police bureau, eliminating 84 positions” including the Gun Violence Reduction Team and emergency response personnel,” and Mayor Ted Wheeler also rejected federal law enforcement assistance.

And in Seattle, officials notoriously “permitted anarchists and activists to seize six square blocks of the city’s Capitol Hill neighborhood” and renamed it the “Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone” (CHAZ) or “Capitol Hill Occupied Protest” (CHOP). Police were “ordered to abandon their precinct within the CHOP,” leading to a 525% increase in crimes such as homicide, robbery, and assault. While all this was going on, city and state leaders also refused federal law enforcement.

Biden eventually condemned the violence following pressure to do so, but has endorsed its underlying grievances by claiming that “systemic racism” is “not just in law enforcement, it’s across the board. It’s in housing, and it’s in education, and it’s in everything we do.” His running mate, Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), said in June that the protests are “a beautiful sight” which are “not gonna let up.  And they should not.”

By contrast, President Donald Trump has unequivocally condemned the rioters as “sick and deranged Anarchists & Agitators.”

Undercover video: Google managers admit to suppressing conservative voices

October 22, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) — A manager at Google affirmed that searches are “skewed by the owners and the drivers of the algorithm” to “play God” in favoring the election prospects of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden and harming those of President Donald Trump.

With growing alarms about the enormous ability of “Big Tech” companies like Google, Facebook and Twitter to censor and even suppress political speech significantly impacting elections, Project Veritas, a non-profit undercover reporting enterprise, has released two new videos of conversations with Google managers verifying how such suppression is actually implemented.

The first “sting” video featured Ritesh Lakhkar, a technical program manager at Google, as well as Patrick Markan, lead mechanical engineer at Fitbit, a consumer electronics and fitness company currently being bought by Google.

Journalist: “You go to search and you type in ‘Donald Trump,’ and it’s like all negative —"

Ritesh Lakhkar: “Yeah.”

Journalist: “— and when you type in ‘Joe Biden,’ it’s all positive.”

Lakhkar: “Because —"

Patrick Markan: “It’s skewed by the owners or the drivers of the algorithm, right?”

Lakhkar: “It’s skewed by the owners and the drivers of the algorithm …

Describing this process in another place, Lakhkar stated, “So … you’re like playing selective God … if it was fraud, it doesn’t matter, but for Trump, Melania Trump, it matters, and on the other side, Trump says something, misinformation, you’re gonna delete that because it’s illegal under whatever pretext.”

“If a Democratic leader says that, then you’re gonna leave it like that, so I’m like … You are just plain and simple trying to play God,” he added.

With regards to YouTube, a company owned by Google (Alphabet), Lakhkar affirmed, “We play God with that too … But if it’s freedom of speech, both sides need to get their opinion.”

In a curious exchange, Lakhkar expressed his moral reservations regarding outsourcing American jobs at Google to China. He complained about being “surveilled” by the Chinese during his transpacific travel.

“I can’t keep doing this,” he said. “Go and teach Chinese people how to do American jobs and come back and get surveilled on the way.” When the Project Veritas journalist expressed his hope that surveillance similar to China’s doesn’t happen in the U.S., Lakhkar agreed, and affirmed that collaboration in such an endeavor “with China could happen and no one would know about it.”

Acknowledging Google as the most “powerful company in the world,” Lakhkar affirmed he would still like to leave the California-based company because, as he stated, “morally and ethically, I disagree [with censorship]” which, he states, is “one of the reasons I feel suffocated at Google.”

While confirming the facts of the first video, stating Google could “censor out news” from their search engine in order to suppress conservatives, the second video provides evidence for an additional means by which the tech giant may interfere in the election process, this time through their advertising sales apparatus.

Using a hidden camera, the Project Veritas reporter visited with Google advertising manager Adriano Amaduzzi, who explained that the organization “can offer free credits, free advertising credits, to Democratic parties for advertising,” and actually stop “right-wing parties from advertising.” And if it is not possible to deny such advertising, they can still pursue their objectives by “reducing the exposure of their ads.”

Finally, though identifying himself as a mere “pawn” with very little influence, Amaduzzi also bragged about how he declined selling advertising to a representative of the Conservative Party of the United Kingdom who had contacted him, since that group supports Brexit.

Laughing, he explained, “You’re telling an Italian that lives in London that you want to advertise Brexit. It’s like, seriously? … I didn’t help him.”

WASHINGTON, D.C., October 22, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) – The U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee voted Thursday to advance Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s Supreme Court nomination to the full Senate, leaving only one hurdle to go next week.

Every Republican on the committee voted for Barrett, President Donald Trump’s selection to replace the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, while every committee Democrat boycotted the vote, CNBC reports.

Widely regarded as a pro-life originalist, Barrett was a member of Notre Dame’s Faculty for Life group, is reported to have signed another letter published by Becket Law criticizing the Obama administration’s contraception mandate, and signed a 2006 ad declaring “we...oppose abortion on demand and support the right to life from fertilization to natural death.” She has also written multiple articles critical of the stare decisis doctrine, which grants weight to past rulings’ status as precedent, regardless of whether they were rightly decided.

“We will not grant this process any further legitimacy by participating in a committee markup of this nomination just twelve days before the culmination of an election that is already underway,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) declared before the vote.

In their chairs, Democrats left posters of Americans they claim would be harmed by the invalidation of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), the constitutionality of which is at issue in a case the Supreme Court will hear on November 10.

“We are not going to allow them to take over the committee,” said Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), chairman of the Judiciary Committee. “They made a choice not to participate.”

“This is a great day. Our team has worked tirelessly throughout this election cycle to meet people where they are so that we can advocate for a society in which the lives of human beings are protected from conception to natural death,” Students for Life of America president Kristan Hawkins said. “Today’s vote in the Judiciary Committee is a great reminder of why millions of Americans vote pro-life first.”

“Today’s vote is an historic milestone for the pro-life movement, especially pro-life women, as Amy Barrett advances one step closer toward a seat on the nation’s highest court,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the Susan B. Anthony List. “In last week’s hearings, Judge Barrett’s formidable intellect and principled constitutionalist philosophy shone throughout hours of questioning. In the face of pro-abortion Democrats’ fearmongering and their media allies’ attacks on her Catholic faith, she showed grace and dignity. There is no question Barrett is exceptionally qualified to serve on the Supreme Court.”

The final vote by the full Senate is currently slated for Monday, October 26, though many Republicans expect Democrats to attempt some sort of last-minute maneuver to derail the vote. The GOP believed to have enough votes to confirm Barrett, even if up to three liberal Republicans defect and oppose her.

Fauci: Barrett nomination ‘superspreader,’ no comment on pro-abortion mass gathering

Tens of thousands attended the Women’s March protesting Trump’s nomination of Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court.

WASHINGTON, D.C., October 22, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) — Dr. Anthony Fauci, a lead member of President Trump’s White House Coronavirus Task Force, has remained silent about the potential spread of COVID-19 during Saturday’s Women’s March featuring tens of thousands of pro-abortion feminists in the nation’s capital. Previously, Fauci had called the nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett, with fewer than 300 people in attendance, a superspreader event.

A super-spreader has been defined as referring to “a propensity to infect a larger than average number of people … Nor is the term confined to individuals with a propensity to spread infectious disease: it can potentially be used to describe events, policies or settings.”

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) simply wrote, “Superspreader events, in which one infectious person infects many others, can lead to explosive growth at the beginning of an outbreak and facilitate sustained transmission later in an outbreak.”

Fauci, the long-time director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, openly criticized the Trump’s Rose Garden event on September 26, when the president officially nominated Barett’s to the Supreme Court, as a “superspreader.”

In fact, just a few days after the event, Trump tested positive for COVID-19 and spent several days at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. A number of the people in attendance tested positive, as well, including Sens. Mike Lee (R-UT) and Thom Tillis (R-NC). At the same time, many others, including Vice President Mike Pence and most senators, never got the virus.

John LaPook asked Fauci in a 60 Minutes interview if he was surprised that Trump got sick.

Fauci responded, “Absolutely not. I was worried that he was going to get sick when I saw him in a completely precarious situation of crowded, no separation between people, and almost nobody wearing a mask. When I saw that on TV, I said, ‘Oh my goodness. Nothing good can come out of that, that’s got to be a problem.’ And then sure enough, it turned out to be a superspreader event.”

If an assemblage of 300 people celebrating the nomination of Barrett is a “precarious situation of crowded … people” and a superspreader event, how much more is a gathering of tens of thousands protesting it? The Washington Examiner reached out to Fauci with that exact question, but has not received a response.

The 4th annual Women’s March event was held in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, with many other gatherings across the nation under the same banner. ABC News estimated that “tens of thousands showed up at what turned out to be 438 #CountonUs marches across all 50 states.”

Fauci is not the only one inconsistent in applying “superspreader” terminology to political events.

CNN called Barrett’s nomination a “nexus for contagion,” but then ran an article last Saturday on the Women’s March to protest Trump and his Supreme Court, without mentioning COVID-19 as a potential problem, at all.

When Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) questioned Dr. Anthony Fauci in July about COVID-19 transmission at nationwide protests during a coronavirus hearing in the House of Representatives, Fauci said, “Crowding together, particularly when you’re not wearing a mask, contributes to the spread of the virus.”

This election could be America’s last chance to survive as a free nation

There is no guarantee that the American system of government and the American way of life will survive.

October 22, 2020 (Turning Point Project) — On election day, you will have to make a choice between two political parties and two presidential candidates. Several days later you will in all probability have to make another choice. In the case of a closely contested election, whose side will you take?

No matter who wins, the losing side will very likely charge that the election was stolen. And if the losing side is the Republicans, that claim could very well be true.

If Republicans produce solid evidence that the election was, in fact, stolen, what then? Should they, nevertheless, graciously step aside in favor of the illegitimate “winners” for the sake of peace, and in the hope that the American system will eventually right itself? After all, our constitutional system of checks and balances was designed to prevent one faction in government from acquiring excessive power.

But what if this is the last chance election? What if one side has no intention of respecting the Constitution or of upholding the system of checks and balances? What if one side wants to pack the Supreme Court and give voting rights to Washington, D.C.; Puerto Rico; and any other U.S. territory likely to vote Democrat? What if future elections are no freer than the sham elections held in totalitarian societies?

Our system of government assumes that all parties adhere to the same basic principles — life, liberty, equality under the law, freedom of speech, freedom of religion. It’s understood, of course, that different people will apply those principles in different ways. The system is designed for differences of opinion. But is it designed for widespread betrayal? What if one faction or party simply rejects those principles? What if, for example, a political party only gives lip service to freedom of speech while actively working to suppress it? What if government representatives no longer believe in the oath of office they took — ”to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic”?

Generation after generation of Americans have assumed that we would never come to that point. But we’re at that point now.

Some suggest that we’re on the brink of a coup. That is quite likely. But the big coup that will transform our government and our lives beyond recognition has been built on the foundation of numerous smaller coups. Of course, “smaller” is not exactly the right word. Some of these coups — such as the takeover of our educational system from kindergarten through graduate school — have been massive. While most Americans were looking the other way, left-wing educators managed to steal the affections and loyalties of our children. As President Trump put it in his July 4th Mount Rushmore speech: “Against every law of society and nature, our children are taught in school to hate their own country and to believe that the men and women who built it were not heroes, but were villains.”

In recent years, we have also witnessed two other large-scale coups — the takeover of the mainstream media by people who reject the American heritage, and the takeover of social media by a collection of “woke” billionaire technocrats who look upon freedom of speech as an outmoded relic of the past. However, the biggest coup of all, thus far, is the takeover of the Democratic Party by the revolutionary left. Should the Democrats win the election, the 245-year-old American experiment in liberty will come to an end — perhaps gradually at first, but then with increasing speed.

When the full force of the new revolutionary order is felt, people won’t know what hit them. They won’t know because they don’t have the historical context to understand that the taking away of liberties is what revolutionary leftists always do. Younger Americans will know everything about the danger of climate change and the virtue of wearing a mask, but they will have learned precious little about the Soviet gulags, the Chinese communist re-education camps, and the imprisonment and torture of dissidents in communist Cuba.

There is no guarantee that the American system of government and the American way of life will survive. We cannot, as columnist Tony Blankely observed 15 years ago, “assume that the benign trends of the recent past will continue.” Instead, he cautioned, “we need to think in terms of when current trends will stop — and what will follow them.”

Of course, we should not think of the American experiment with self-government as a trend. Rather, it is one of history’s most splendid achievements — a priceless gift to succeeding generations. We must be prepared, however, for the possibility that it can come to an end, or rather, be put to an end. And we must, as Blankely warned, think about what will follow. We may have to start thinking about that future in as little as two weeks.

How the approving of homosexual civil unions is related to the message of Fatima

A German priest reacts to Pope Francis’s remarks on civil unions for homosexual couples.

October 22, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) – The disastrous statement of the bishop of Rome on the promotion of civil unions of homosexual partners clearly has an apocalyptic reference. We are in the time of the great test, in which a historical and decisive struggle is taking place.

Carlo Cardinal Caffarra, the founding President of the Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Marriage and the Family, shortly before his death in 2017, referred to a letter from Sister Lucia of Fatima in which she had written the following: “Father, a time will come when the decisive battle between the kingdom of Christ and Satan will be over marriage and the family. And those who will work for the good of the family will experience persecution and tribulation. But do not be afraid, because Our Lady has already crushed his head. ”[1].

In light of the message of Fatima, it is striking that the assassination attempt on Pope John Paul II is directly related to the establishment of his prophetic Institute for Marriage and the Family. Pope Benedict XVI pointed this out in an address on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of its foundation: “On that day, May 13, 1981, my beloved Predecessor John Paul II suffered the well-known serious attack on his life during the Audience at which he was to have announced the creation of your Institute.”[2]

The past seven years have shown in a shocking way what hatred the adversary has for the beauty of the true teaching on Christian marriage and family. The Institute of St. John Paul II has not only been massively attacked, but completely dismantled and robbed of its very essence. At both of the Synods of Bishops on Marriage and Family, in 2014 and in 2015, it was completely ignored until the unacceptable exhortation Amoris laetitia in 2016 even brought forth a direct contradiction of Church teaching. In the same year, the ultimate destruction of the Institute began with the appointment of a new Grand Chancellor and opposing statutes, and with the suspension of all previous professors. In addition, it was subjected to a substantive “reorientation” that insiders described as a “purge” in the most negative sense [3].

The break made by Bergoglio is now openly evident, because on March 28, 2003, Pope John Paul II had approved the following clarification of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and ordered its publication: “There are absolutely no grounds for considering homosexual unions to be in any way similar or even remotely analogous to God's plan for marriage and family. Marriage is holy, while homosexual acts go against the natural moral law”[4].

The testimony of the saints leaves no doubt about the extent to which homosexual acts offend the Creator and provoke His retribution. How can we fail to think of God's insistent admonition, handed down to us in the famous Dialogue of St. Catherine of Siena: “The wretched do even worse and commit the accursed sin against nature. And like blind fools whose reason is clouded, they do not perceive the rottenness and misery in which they find themselves. Not only to Me, who am the highest eternal purity, it is disgusting (so detestable indeed that for this one sin I destroyed five cities by My divine judgment, since My righteousness would not bear it any longer), but even to demons”[5].

Based on the clear biblical message, the Permanent Magisterium of the Catholic Church has always protected marriage and family. Thus, especially today it cannot be concealed that homosexual practices are among the grave sins that seriously violate chastity (cf. CCC 2396) and are vehemently rejected by Holy Scripture (cf. Gen 19:1-29; Rom 1:24-27; 1 Cor 6:9-10; 1 Tim 1:10). The Catechism reminds us of the guilt of the Sodomites that “cries to heaven” (cf. CCC 1867).[6]

In this apocalyptic time of the False Prophecy, the intervention of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, whom we venerate as the one who crushes the head of the hellish serpent, strengthens us. She, the purest Virgin, Mother of Beautiful Love and Mediatrix of All Graces, will make us see through the snares of the evil enemy and lead us safely to the salvation which the Triune God gives to His own.

In the great tribulation of this epochal and decisive struggle, in which the eternal salvation of so many souls is threatened, we repeat the famous words spoken by Pope John Paul II at the consecration of mankind to Our Lady of Fatima: “Once again, let the infinite saving power of salvation show itself to the world: the power of merciful love! That it puts a stop to evil! That it changes consciences! In your Immaculate Heart the light of hope is revealed to all!”[7]

Cdl. Burke: Pope’s homosexual civil union remarks ‘contrary’ to Scripture, Tradition

In a new documentary Pope Francis called for homosexual civil unions to be legalized.

October 22, 2020 (CardinalBurke.com) – The worldwide communications media have reported with strong emphasis, as a change of course, the news that Pope Francis has declared that persons in the homosexual condition, as children of God, “have a right to have a family” and that “no one should be thrown out or be made unhappy because of it.” Moreover, they write that he has declared: “What we have to create is a civil union. In this way they will be legally covered. I have defended this.” The declarations were made in an interview with Evgeny Afineevsky, director of a documentary, “Francesco,” premiered on October 21, 2020, on the occasion of the Rome Film Festival (Festa del Film di Roma).

Such declarations generate great bewilderment and cause confusion and error among Catholic faithful, inasmuch as they are contrary to the teaching of Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition, and of the recent Magisterium by which the Church guards, protects and interprets the whole deposit of faith contained in Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition. They cause wonderment and error regarding the Church’s teaching among people of good will, who sincerely wish to know what the Catholic Church teaches. They impose upon pastors of souls the duty of conscience to make fitting and necessary clarifications.

First of all, the context and the occasion of such declarations make them devoid of any magisterial weight. They are rightly interpreted as simple private opinions of the person who made them. These declarations do not bind, in any manner, the consciences of the faithful who are rather obliged to adhere with religious submission to what Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition, and the ordinary Magisterium of the Church teach on the matter in question. In particular, the following are to be noted.

1. “Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, Tradition has always declared that “homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 2357; Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Persona humana, “Declaration on Certain Questions Concerning Sexual Ethics, no. VIII[1]), inasmuch as they are contrary to the natural law, closed to the gift of life and void of a true affective and sexual complementarity. Therefore, they cannot be approved.

2. The particular and sometimes deep-seated tendencies of persons, men and women, in the homosexual condition, which are for them a trial, although they may not in themselves constitute a sin, represent nonetheless an objectively disordered inclination (Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 2358; Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Homosexualitatis problema, “Letter to the Bishops of the Catholic Church on the Pastoral Care of Homosexual Persons,” no. 3[2]). They are, therefore, to be received with respect, compassion and sensitivity, avoiding any unjust discrimination. The Catholic faith teaches the faithful to hate sin but to love the sinner.

3. The faithful, and, in particular, Catholic politicians are held to oppose the legal recognition of homosexual unions (Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Considerations Regarding Proposals To Give Legal Recognition to Unions between Homosexual Persons, Diverse questioni concernenti l’omosessualità, n. 10[3]). The right to form a family is not a private right to vindicate but must correspond to the plan of the Creator Who has willed the human being in sexual difference, “male and female He created them” (Gen 1, 27), thus calling man, male and female, to the transmission of life. “Because married couples ensure the succession of generations and are therefore eminently within the public interest, civil law grants them institutional recognition. Homosexual unions, on the other hand, do not need specific attention from the legal standpoint since they do not exercise this function for the common good.” (Ibidem, no. 9[4]). To speak of a homosexual union, in the same sense as the conjugal union of the married, is, in fact, profoundly misleading, because there can be no such union between persons of the same sex. In what regards the administration of justice, persons in the homosexual condition, as all citizens, can always make use of the provisions of law to safeguard their private rights.

It is a source of deepest sadness and pressing pastoral concern that the private opinions reported with so much emphasis by the press and attributed to Pope Francis do not correspond to the constant teaching of the Church, as it is expressed in Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition, and is guarded, protected and interpreted by the Magisterium. Equally sad and concerning is the turmoil, confusion, and error they cause among the Catholic faithful, as is the scandal they cause, in general, by giving the totally false impression that the Catholic Church has had a change of course, that is, has changed its perennial teaching regarding such fundamental and critical questions.

Uproar in Alberta over schools teaching 7- and 8-year-olds ancient history, Bible verses

Rather than dumbing down the curriculum, advisers proposed that first and second graders study ancient China and Rome and learn the names of capitals.

October 22, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) -- Earlier this week, Canadian media outlets broke what we are supposed to believe is a hugely upsetting story. Curriculum advisers handpicked by Alberta’s government, they reported, had made a series of unthinkable recommendations. Professors were called upon to condemn the proposals; commentators struggled to catch a breath; the New Democrats in opposition were frankly hornswoggled.

The new recommendations, it turns out, include teaching seven- and eight-year-olds about ancient Rome, ancient China, medieval feudalism, and Homer’s Odyssey. The advisers recommended that many important names and landmarks be memorized, and that children as young as the first grade should be introduced artists such as Claude Monet and Georgia O’Keeffe. Most offensively, it was also proposed that first graders learn Bible verses about Creation as poetry (something that Richard Dawkins has proposed.)

Hilariously, academics such as Professor Keith Barton, an alleged “specialist in social studies curriculum and instruction” told the CBC that “to say that second graders are going to be learning about ancient China and ancient Rome, that they’re going to be learning the names of capitals — nobody does this.” Of course, the fact that “nobody does this” might be one of the reasons children are so woefully under-educated these days. My daughter had memorized entire Bible chapters before the age of three, and I know many home-schooling parents whose children can speak on a wide range of topics before the age of 10. Perhaps if those parents followed Barton’s advice, their children would be more appropriately ignorant.

Former premier Rachel Notley went for lower-hanging fruit and insinuated that the proposals were actually racist due to reports that the history of residential schools may not be taught in elementary, a characteristically nasty accusation. I actually agree that this history should be taught in elementary (there is a great book in the Dear Canada series, These are My Words: The Residential School Diary of Violet Pesheens, that would work well as introduction). But I note that it is particularly ironic that Rachel Notley is so offended by the new curriculum proposals, considering what she and her education minister David Eggen perpetrated on Albertan schools.

As you may remember, the NDP actually passed laws ensuring that parents would not be told if their children joined Gay-Straight Alliance Clubs — and the activities of children in this regard would be hidden from their families. This resulted in children being taken out of school, without their parents’ knowledge, by a “facilitator” who was not on staff at the school, to a conference where they were given condoms and a 50-page flip-book on how to have anal sex (among other activities.) Parental complaints were totally ignored. This ended up in court. Notley and the NDP wanted to indoctrinate children without parents’ knowledge or permission, because they believe children belong to the state.

In fact, Alberta’s NDP actually told Christian schools that if they didn’t accept Gay Straight Alliance Clubs and abandon their Judeo-Christian ethic, they would be shut down. Schools had a choice: Accept the ideology of the governing party of Alberta, or else. The next step, of course, would be to ensure that everyone’s children were taught what the NDP believes to be true. Ideological colonization, in other words. If parents won’t teach progressive values to their children, the government will make sure they are indoctrinated by making it illegal to tell parents what their kids are doing at school. If the school isn’t cooperative, they can be shut down, too.

The only reason over 20 Christian schools didn’t lose accreditation in Alberta was because Rachel Notley, David Eggen, and the rest of gang got sent packing by voters who were fed up with their bullying, their incompetence, and their interference. But it is precisely because of that experience that I think it is so important that the history of residential schools be taught early and always. The residential schools were set up to take children from their parents so that they could be re-educated into a new culture that the government thought was better for them. The government believed it would be best if the culture of the parents did not get passed on to the children, because the children could only participate fully in civilized society if they were educated to realized that their culture was out of date and would only hold them back. Children were even punished for attempting to maintain their culture.

Does that sound familiar? It should. Rachel Notley, David Eggen, and their fellow ideologues would love to do the same thing to the religious schools of Christians, Sikhs, Mormons, Muslims, and orthodox Jews who do not conform to their vision of an ideal progressive culture. Old ideas, religious ideas — those must be dispensed with by “re-education” — and that can be done by separating children from their parents. The circumstances and the severity are different, but the concept is the same: The state knows best, and parents must be prevented from passing on values the state disapproves of.

The state should never get between children and their parents. And that is why parents must get in between progressives and the power they desire.

Bombshell: Hunter Biden’s laptop had nude pics of minors, Rudy Giuliani claims

'If you were to look at the photographs on this hard drive and didn't report it to the police — well, if you were a law enforcement officer, you'd be guilty of a felony,' the former New York mayor said.

October 22, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) – As incredibly damning as Hunter Biden’s laptop has been already for Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden, it could still get worse. Much worse, depending on who you believe.

Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who has been detailing the contents of the laptop in a series of videos, now claims (via his video blog as well as interviews with Newsmax and the Washington Examiner), that in addition to a treasure trove of information on how the Biden family got rich by selling access to the former Vice President around the world, the computer also contains child porn – nude and sexually-suggestive photos of underage girls – as well as texts indicating Hunter had been accused of illicit activities with a minor.

A screenshot of the alleged text from Hunter to his father reads (typos in the original):

She she told my therapist that I was sexually inappropriate with [redacted] when she says that I face time naked with her and the reason I can't have her out to see me is because I'll walk around naked ... When she was pressed she said that [redacted] never said anything like that but the bottom line is that I create and caused.

A very unsafe environment for the kids

If it stopped there I would let it go

"If you were to look at the photographs on this hard drive and didn't report it to the police — well, if you were a law enforcement officer, you'd be guilty of a felony,” Giuliani says. "If you were just a normal citizen, you'd be a horrible human being.”

Before we continue, a caveat: the harshest accusations also require the highest burdens of proof, and none of us who haven’t seen the computer for ourselves have any idea whether it actually contains these pictures or texts. If the story is false, then Giuliani is guilty of defamation, and Hunter will be able to take him to the cleaners over it.

That said, the fact that Giuliani, a former federal prosecutor who knows the price of fabricating something like this, is saying it publicly is telling simply because it would be such a big risk if untrue.

Further, a spokesman for Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings did confirm to the Delaware News Journal that Giuliani handed unspecified materials purportedly from Hunter’s laptop over to the New Castle County Police Department, which passed them on to Jennings’ office, which in turn sent them to the FBI (which isn’t commenting further).

“In Delaware, we frequently deal with child endangerment cases and take them very seriously, and there is nothing in the handling of this case that deviates from that,” Jennings spokesman Mat Marshall elaborated to the Examiner. He reiterated that Jennings’ office is not investigating, but “I can confirm to you that the FBI has it.”

“We made an investigative referral,” says former New York Police Department Commissioner Bernard Kerik, who has been working with Giuliani. “We took a bunch of photos — handed it to them. We took emails — handed it to them. Then we explained what we found, when we found it, how we found it, how we came into possession of the hard drive.”

Whatever the truth of this explosive allegation, there’s little doubt as to the authenticity of the emails and texts detailing the Bidens’ mingling of profit and public office. The latest corroboration comes in the form of a public statement by Tony Bobulinski, a former business partner of Hunter’s currently cooperating with Senate investigators:

I've seen Vice President Biden saying he never talked to Hunter about his business. I've seen firsthand that that's not true, because it wasn't just Hunter's business, they said they were putting the Biden family name and its legacy on the line.

I realized the Chinese were not really focused on a healthy financial ROI. They were looking at this as a political or influence investment. Once I realized that Hunter wanted to use the company as his personal piggy bank by just taking money out of it as soon as it came from the Chinese, I took steps to prevent that from happening.

The Johnson Report connected some dots in a way that shocked me — it made me realize the Bidens had gone behind my back and gotten paid millions of dollars by the Chinese, even though they told me they hadn't and wouldn't do that to their partners.

Of course, with the election less than two weeks away, the only question that really matters is whether enough Americans will see enough of this to make a difference.

From social media’s efforts to bury the story, to NPR openly declaring it won’t “waste our time” covering it, to CBS News’ Lesley Stahl incredulously claiming the laptop “can’t be verified,” America’s information gatekeepers have never been more brazen about manipulating the news for partisan ends. On November 3, we’ll find out whether they’ve gotten away with it.

Cardinal says Catholics ‘can and should’ disagree with Pope’s ‘opinion’ on gay civil unions

'When in doubt, be in favor of God.'

October 22, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) – Cardinal Gerhard Müller, in his first reaction to the new papal interview which endorses civil unions of same-sex couples, states that when there is a conflict between the words of a Pope and the Words of God, one has to choose God. He reminds us of St. Paul who had to withstand St. Peter, the first Pope, when the latter was teaching error. The German cardinal also tells Catholics that in such a case where the Pope does not teach the Word of God, but his “purely private” opinion, they “should freely contradict” him.

Finally, Cardinal Müller states that Pope Francis, “instead of meeting with people who feel confirmed by him in their attitude and wrong thinking and who show off to the world with their picture with the Pope, [should] study Daniel Mattson's book and invite him to a conversation. He is an American who has found the way out of the disgracefulness of sexual promiscuity and into a life of abstinence in the freedom and glory of the children of God (Rom 8:21).”

In a new film that will premiere in North America Sunday but premiered in Rome yesterday, Pope Francis has contradicted Catholic Church teaching by calling for homosexual civil unions to be legalized. Speaking of homosexual civil unions, he said, “What we have to create is a civil union law. That way they are legally covered. I stood up for that.”

Cardinal Müller makes it clear that this new papal statement has as its effect that “Catholics are irritated” and the “enemies of the Church feel confirmed by the Vicar of Our Lord Jesus Christ.” For example, the General Secretary of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, has praised Pope Francis for his new words for their focus on “non-discrimination” with regard to “sexual orientation.” Therefore, the new papal “decision,” he continued, “is extremely welcome.”

Cardinal Raymond Leo Burke, one of the four dubia cardinals, also published today a statement and critique of the Pope's new words. He writes about the papal endorsement of same-sex unions that “such declarations generate great bewilderment and cause confusion and error among Catholic faithful, inasmuch as they are contrary to the teaching of Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition, and of the recent Magisterium by which the Church guards, protects and interprets the whole deposit of faith contained in Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition.

Finally, Bishop Marian Eleganti, of Chur, Switzerland, wrote to LifeSiteNews his own assessment of the situation. He states that “the papal interviews have become inflationary,” but that, “instead of teaching the faith of the Church, namely what has been and is to be believed everywhere, always and by everyone (Vincent de Lérins), they give us personal views that are neither indisputable nor infallible.” Such papal words, he concludes, are in contradiction with the Church's catechism: “The Church cannot encourage forms of life sanctioned by civil law that contradict her own catechism. Nor can the latter be changed in one fell swoop.”

Below is the full statement by Cardinal Gerhard Ludwig Müller:

I do not know the exact wording of the interview statement, which is ambiguous as so often. But the effect is fatal. The Catholic faithful are irritated, the enemies of the Church feel confirmed by the Vicar of our Lord Jesus Christ, whom they reject as the Son of God. Instead of using theological and philosophical arguments of reason, they appeal to feelings, thus checkmating the rationality of faith with sentimentality. But faith does not depend on a political option in the right or left spectrum or an ideological position between conservatism or progressivism, but only on the Truth that God Himself is in His Essence and in the Word of His historical Revelation.

The Christian believes in God as the first truth and recognizes the Pope and the bishops as successors of St. Peter and the other Apostles. Loyalty to the Pope is something different from an idolatrous papolatry similar to the principle according to which the leader or the party is always right. Where there is tension between the plain and obvious Word of God and the infallible interpretation on the one hand and private expressions of opinion even by the highest church authorities on the other, the principle always applies: in dubio pro DEO [When in doubt, be in favor of God].

The Magisterium serves the Word of God and never stands above Revelation. This is in any case the valid teaching of the Church on the relationship of the Revelation of God in Christ to the Magisterium which is subordinate to it.

The present statement [of Pope Francis] is a purely private expression of opinion, which every Catholic can and should freely contradict. John Henry Newman (1801-1890), the famous Cardinal and one of the greatest teachers of the Church in modern times, has said that even worse than financial corruption in Church organizations and the moral corruption of clergy and leading laymen is corruption in matters of revealed doctrine.

This was and is the source of all the abuses and scandals in church history. What is ecclesial candor or the freedom of a Christian man? Between Pope and bishops – especially the cardinals of the Holy Roman Church – the same relationship exists analogously as between Peter and the other Apostles. St. Paul confronted St. Peter because the latter had deviated from the “truth of the Gospel” (Gal 2:14) through ambiguous behavior and speech. St. Hieronymus, St. Augustine, and St. Thomas Aquinas, in their interpretation of the Epistle to the Galatians, take St. Paul's side in terms of content and praise St. Peter for his humility in allowing himself to be rebuked by him.

In the Catholic Church, the Word of God is valid – with regard to the complementarity of the sexes, to marriage and family – and this in the definitive interpretation in the person and mission of Christ, His Son, speaking to the Pharisees – then and now: “Haven’t you read that at the beginning the Creator made them male and female, and said, 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh'?” (Mt 19:4). There is no right to marriage and family unless a man and a woman, according to their God-created nature, freely say to one another in conscience and in the sight of God: Only you and forever – until death do us part.

Outside of legitimate marriage, according to God's Will, every sexual union is objectively a grave sin, regardless of the subjective guilt that only God knows and to whose forgiveness we can entrust ourselves always and at every moment.  But we must not frivolously sin, taking the mercy of God for granted and, instead of letting ourselves be justified by His merciful judgment, we must not see ourselves confirmed in a sinful act by the applause of dechristianized contemporaries.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church makes a clear distinction between pastoral care and personal attention to persons with a inclination towards persons of the same sex and the objective evaluation of homosexual acts or even heterosexual acts outside marriage which are contrary to God's Commandment. “Whoever says that he remains in Him must also lead a life as HE led it.” (1 John 2:6). Keeping the Commandments of God is an expression of love for Him and the recognition of their healing effect on man.

The Pope should, instead of meeting with people who feel confirmed by him in their attitude and wrong thinking and who show off to the world with their picture with the Pope, study Daniel Mattson's book and invite him to a conversation. He is an American who has found the way out of the disgracefulness of sexual promiscuity and into a life of abstinence in the “freedom and glory of the children of God” (Rom 8:21).

What does Pope Francis mean when he talks about salvation?

In old books 'confusing the faithful' is a clerical crime. Well, I’m faithful, and I’m confused.

ROME, Italy, October 22, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) ― Rome is both a dream and a nightmare.

I love the old city: the rich palette of shades on the crumbling walls, the cobblestones underfoot, the cheerful greetings in the cafes, the smell of sugar wafting from bakeries, the taste of my morning cappuccino. My husband and I can walk to Mass; we bump into friends in church or on the Borgo Pio; we make lunch dates and bask in the October sun.

But now everyone wears masks indoors and out, which gives life in Rome a horror film dimension: the Eternal City is now populated by zombies, the famously expressive faces hidden behind ―well, “face diapers” is not entirely an unjust term. Cloth or plastic, they’re meant to catch noxious effluvia. An innocent unmasked sneeze is now an obscenity, apparently.

Masks make it more difficult to understand and to be understood, which is no joke when you’re operating in a foreign language. They add to my sense of confusion, especially when reporting. My confusion is compounded by the sudden disappearance of translation services as they were once laid on by the Sala Stampa, the press office of the Holy See. For every newsworthy event, I now have a choice: go in person and rely on my language skills, or stay at home and watch it second-hand over EWTN.

How I miss those invisible Italian ladies speaking English through headphones into my so-willing ears! Last October, everything seemed laid on for bright-eyed North American reporters: a pass good for weeks, the cozy auditorium, the headphones,   WiFi on tap, paper copies of documents marked “Embargo”, colleagues to greet or subtly insult online. Now I have to apply for a pass for each event, find each socially distanced locale, strain to catch all the words, and count myself lucky if I see a familiar half-face among the journalists.

Some half-faces in Rome are easy to recognize, however. Yesterday I covered the International Meeting for Prayers for Peace from the impressive Piazza del Campidoglio on top of the Capitoline Hill, and the white-masked face of Pope Francis appeared on screens shortly after 4 PM. He was processing into the Ara Coeli Basilica with Bartholomew I, the Patriarch of Constantinople, whom I now revere for the clarity of his Italian, for the first part of the interfaith event.

The sight of the pontiff in a white cotton mask disturbed me, for he allegedly has only one lung, and he sounded more breathless than ever. And the sight of so many Christians ―cardinals, nuns, priests, evangelicals, orthodox―wearing masks and sitting a coffin-depth apart was depressing. But then almost everyone around me was socially distancing and wearing masks, too. The exceptions were the cameramen, who jostled for position on the steps of the museum behind us and took off their mascherine to smoke.

Non-Christian prayers for peace took place simultaneously in the museums: these were not streamed into the piazza, but we could see the distinctively dressed worshippers come and go. When the services ended, a Sala Stampa cameraman kicked me off my piece of step and I glumly went to sit in a socially distanced chair in the piazza. I pondered large signs with the name of the event in Italian and, weirdly translated, in English.

Salvarsi” is a reflexive verb. “Nessuno si salva da solo: pace e fraternità” means “No-one saves himselfalone: peace and fraternity,” but the official English translation is “No-one is savedalone: peace and fraternity.”  You don’t need a theology degree to know there’s a big fat Pelagius-sized difference between saving yourself and being saved. If, as in Pope Francis’ largely earth-bound document Fratelli tutti, we are talking about temporal matters, humans-saving-humans makes sense. But I was covering a religious event, an interfaith religious event. What kind of salvation was Pope Francis talking about?

I’m a JPII kid who grew up wondering why Catholic life and worship before I was born had changed so much. Nobody around me talked about the Assisi interfaith gathering of 1986, and I didn’t think much about it until I saw a news clipping about it on the office door of a Boston College professor who was a convert to Islam. Then I was shocked. I don’t remember why, but I was.

I sincerely hope for the eternal salvation of all men, but at the same time, I believe that Jesus Christ is “the Way, the Truth and the Life” and “nobody comes to the Father except through” Him (John 14:6). I don’t understand how encouraging non-Christian prayer is supernaturally helpful to anyone.

I understand that the Vatican II document Nostra Aetate honors the elements of truth found in other religions, but I don’t understand the current flirtation with non-Christian symbols like Pachamama and the idea that God wills different religions. In old books “confusing the faithful” is a clerical crime. Well, I’m faithful, and I’m confused.

During the interfaith meeting in the Piazza, however I was not so much confused as despairing:  after Bartholomew’s speech on the ecological crisis, the religious leaders ceased to speak Italian. Haïm Korsia, the Chief Rabbi of France, spoke French, so that was okay (he mentioned poor murdered Samuel Paty, by the way), but Mohamed Abdelsalam Abdellatif Mohamed spoke in Arabic. Zen monk Shoten Minegishi spoke Japanese. Karmaljit Singh Dillon presumably spoke Punjabi. At that point, I would have been better off at home with the EWTN livestream, I’m sorry to say. October evenings in Italy are cold, and I was freezing.

But then it was Pope Francis’s turn to speak, and I listened hard to sort out what he means when he says nobody is saved (or saves himself) alone. And he seemed to mean what he said in Fratelli tutti: we can’t continue to have a nice life here on earth unless everyone is able to have a nice life here on earth. He also seemed to suggest that the temporal survival of humanity is at stake, for he said that it is possible to construct a world of peace and thus, brothers and sisters, salvarci insieme:to save ourselves together.

John Lennon would have loved it; St Thomas Aquinas not so much.

After an “Appeal for Peace” was read out, a procession of masked children displayed, a candelabra lit, and the “Appeal” signed by people in colourful dress ― as sentimental music like Pachabel’s “Canon in D” poured from the speakers ― the event ended with a socially distanced “sign of peace.” Masked people nodded to each other in the 7 PM gloom.

Then I went home, walking swiftly down the Capitoline Hill, through the dark Roman streets past the ruins of the Theater of Marcellus, past Italian Jewish restaurants with tables still empty on the pavement, their waiters in kippahs and masks. Somewhere on the other side of Giordano Bruno’ s monument, I buzzed a buzzer and was relieved to hear my husband’s voice. I hoped he had made a nice supper, for I had hours of writing ahead of me.

A large white bird flew over the Piazza di Campidoglio at least twice, by the way. Make of that what you will.
