Online newspaper founder: Don’t trust Wikipedia, it’s a ‘purveyor of lies & slander’

WASHINGTON, D.C., February 16, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — The founder of a conservative online newspaper has learned the hard way why not to trust Wikipedia: He looked up his own name.

“(Wikipedia) is not only a provider of inaccuracy and bias,” Joseph Farah, the CEO and editor-in-chief of WorldNetDaily (WND), wrote last Thursday. 

“It is a wholesale purveyor of lies and slander unlike any other the world has ever known.”

Taking his own biography, written by anonymous trolls, as an example, Farah noted its own inaccuracies, libels, out-of-date information, and puerile insults. 

“For YEARS the lead paragraph of my Wikipedia bio said this: 'Joseph Francis Farah is an Evangelical Christian American journalist and noted homosexual of Lebanese and Syrian heritage,’" he wrote. 

Farah is married to WND’s co-founder, Elizabeth.

“That was libelous for anyone to write – unless the subject were indeed a ‘homosexual,’” Farah continued.

“But for Wikipedia they dodged that bullet with a defense that ‘volunteers’ created the content on the site. Of course, if I tried to correct it – and I did try – they would reject it. That's the same way Big Tech operates. So Wikipedia was ahead of its time.”

Farah’s Wikipedia bio has also stated, libellously, that he had an affair “with a prominent female syndicated columnist.” It has also referred to him in the past as “white supremacist,” a “closet homosexual,” a “self-hating Arab,” a “Zionist Twit,” “a Jew Loving Pig” and a “religious nutcase.” It referred to WND as “an American independent article and editorial based online tabloid that publishes from a radical right wing point of view.”

“Whatever that means,” quipped Farah. 

The WND chief said he had to threaten Wikipedia with a lawsuit to get his biography corrected, and the corrections were soon replaced with more lies “designed to hurt and humiliate.” 

“If ever there were a website to avoid at all costs, it's Wikipedia,” Farah averred.  

“No good can possibly come from using this vast wasteland of error and deliberate deceit. You should get off of it and warn others away,” he continued. 

“You should make sure your children and grandchildren know what a corrupt and morally bankrupt institution it truly is.”

As an experiment, LifeSiteNews looked up John-Henry Westen, its own editor-in-chief. He is mentioned in connection with CitizenGO, which Wikipedia called “an ultraconservative advocacy group founded in Madrid, Spain in 2013 by the ultra-Catholic HazteOir organization.” The information about Westen is out of date. 

The principal reference to LifeSiteNews on Wikipedia is as a subsection of its entry on Canada’s Campaign Life Coalition. Wikipedia says LifeSiteNews was founded to promote “anti-abortion views” and the material it presents about our organization is couched in negative language, stating that it is "a known purveyor of misleading information,” “anti-LGBT,” “ultraconservative,” “a platform for attacks” on Pope Francis, and the subject of a lawsuit. The entry does not mention that this lawsuit was dropped. Meanwhile, LifeSiteNews has been independent of Campaign Life for more than a decade, so not only is the entry biased and grossly incomplete, it is also out of date.     

When consulted, Westen said LifeSiteNews had once applied to have its own entry in the influential online encyclopedia, but that Wikipedia had refused. 

“That just shows how ridiculous they are,” Westen said. 

He characterized Wikipedia as “a very dangerous entity” because it pretends to be non-partisan while in reality promoting a left-wing agenda “like the rest of Big Tech.” Compounding the problem, there is “a lot of truth mixed in with their lies,” he added, “and it’s a reference point for the world.”   

Conservatives have been ringing alarm bells over Wikipedia for years. In 2019, Breitbart senior tech editor Allum Bokhari stated that the platform is “a left-wing cabal” and linked to an article on the subject by the online magazine’s T.D. Adler. Adler pointed out “five of the biggest cases of political bias that gripped the site in 2017.” They included an “anti-Trump editing spree” ordered by a University of California Berkeley instructor; the burial of scandals at CNN; the removal of the Wikipedia sources for fired Google employee James Damore’s famous memo and the addition of remarks defaming Damore; the omission of Antifa’s “violent far-left tendencies”; and a “purge of media sources critical of claims Russia hacked the 2016 U.S. presidential elections.”

Even those who voluntarily add and edit material to Wikipedia have had problems with the encyclopedia’s bias, Adler included. 

“Members of Wikipedia have begun raising concerns about bias against conservatives on the site, with Wales appearing interested in examples, but the editing community’s standard response is noting that Wikipedia has mechanisms in place to address incidents of bias," he wrote.

“Unfortunately, Wikipedia’s mechanisms have proven consistently lopsided in favor of editors supporting left-wing positions. Editors from the left frequently get away with misconduct, while editors defending the right face more frequent and much harsher sanctions.”

Adler was himself banned from the editing team.

CALGARY, Alberta, February 16, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — One of Canada’s leading freedom rights organizations will be taking legal action against the federal government over new COVID-19 travel rules. The Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms (JCCF) condemned the new rules, saying they will “forcibly confine” people to a hotel stay upon arrival into Canada.

“Quarantine, particularly of healthy or asymptomatic individuals, is the functional equivalent of house arrest and the Justice Centre will not allow it to continue unchallenged,” stated JCCF President John Carpay in a news release sent out last Friday.

“These citizens are being held unlawfully despite not having been convicted of any offence, not having had access to a lawyer, and not having appeared before a judge. Law enforcement officers are apparently refusing to inform family members of where their loved ones are being held. This outrageous policy aligns with the world’s most repressive and undemocratic regimes and is totally unacceptable.”

The JCCF says that its legal action, which is currently being finalized, will be taken against the Liberal government under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau “on or before Wednesday, February 17.”

Returning Canadian travelers are currently being forced to stay in “quarantine hotels.” This is the main driver behind the JCCF’s legal action.

The forced quarantine in Calgary a few weeks ago of Nikki Mathis, who returned to Canada from the U.S., made headlines globally for its apparent violation of her constitutional rights.

Mathis had a negative COVID test, which is needed to enter Canada, but was forced into a hotel quarantine site without being told the location of the facility, because her COVID test was not the correct kind demanded by Canadian authorities.

Canadian public health officers refused to tell Mathis’s husband where his wife was, which caused an uproar after he posted the details of the ordeal online.

Mathis has retained the JCCF to help her protest her three-day confinement in a Calgary quarantine hotel. Her confinement is just one of many examples which prompted the JCCF to announce its initial intentions to sue the federal government over the quarantine rules.

Last week, Trudeau claimed that his government was not “detaining people” and that federal quarantine facilities were “medically based isolations.”

Trudeau’s claim comes despite the fact that many who have been forced to attend such sites have said they felt like prisoners at the COVID-19 quarantine sites.

“I feel like a prisoner in here, you know,” said Angelo Vanegas about his mandatory 14-day quarantine in Calgary, according to a CBC report.

Vanegas said that he went long periods without food, was stuck in a small room, and had to “beg” to get his medical needs addressed.

The new legal action announced last Friday comes after the JCCF first said in January it would sue in federal court if the government went ahead with its planned “mandatory quarantine imposed on Canadians.” The isolation can take up to 14 days “at secret locations.”

In early January, the Canadian federal government enacted new rules which required all air travelers coming into Canada to present a negative PCR or LAMP COVID-19 test to their airline before being allowed to board their flight. Rapid type tests, which Mathis had procured in the U.S., are not considered acceptable.

In late January, the Canadian federal government introduced further restrictions for incoming air travelers. The government announced that “all air travellers … with very limited exceptions” would have to submit to a mandatory hotel quarantine for at least three nights while waiting for test results from a mandatory COVID-19 test given upon arrival.

If a negative test result comes in during the three-day forced stay, a person is then allowed to quarantine at home for 14 days. Only four airports in Canada, those being Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, and Montreal, currently service international flights.

The government said that all passengers have to pay for their stay, which amounts to roughly $2,000.

News of the new restrictions prompted a backlash which forced the Trudeau government to delay full implementation of the new rules, however.

Last Friday, Trudeau announced new restrictions for those entering Canada by air and land. The new rules mandate that travelers take a “COVID-19 molecular test when they arrive in Canada before exiting the airport, and another toward the end of their 14-day quarantine period.”

Despite manifold concerns regarding the forced quarantine sites, the Canadian government said that all air travelers are required to “reserve, prior to departure to Canada, a 3-night stay in a government-authorized hotel.”

Bookings will begin February 18, and all travelers must submit their “travel and contact information, including a suitable quarantine plan, electronically,” through the via ArriveCAN app “before crossing the border or boarding a flight.”

The JCCF says that its new legal action will include an affidavit from Steven Duesing, an Ontario resident who was retained by the Justice Centre “after being forcibly detained for three days in a Toronto Raddison Hotel.”

JCCF lawyer Sayeh Hassan noted in the press release that Canada’s charter of rights and freedoms guarantees the “fundamental right to enter and leave Canada.”

“Prime Minister Trudeau has made special exceptions for Olympic athletes and their support teams yet would deny Canadian citizens the right to return to their home because they do not have the specific test the government mandates, a PCR test,” notes Hassan.

Currently, the Canadian federal government has a total of 11 official COVID-19 quarantine sites located in nine cities across the country. These sites are designated for those whose official quarantine plans are rejected by the government, or who were deemed to have an “invalid” COVID-19 test when they returned to Canada.

Although the exact locations of the quarantine facilities have not been revealed, a website has been created listing the locations of known sites.

In their press release, the JCCF noted that it currently represents 13 people “in the comprehensive new lawsuit underway,” and that more will be added.

February 16, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – A former judge of the Superior Court of New Jersey wrote in a recent column that President Biden refuses to answer the question regarding if the “baby in the womb is a person” because the correct answer would overturn Roe v. Wade and outlaw abortion. 

“Is the baby in the womb a person? Of course, she is,” wrote former judge Andrew P. Napolitano, a senior judicial analyst at Fox News Channel, in a Feb. 11 piece published at Fox News. “The baby has human parents, and her body contains all the genomic materials to grow into human childhood and adulthood.”

“The denial of personhood to babies in the womb is akin to the judicial denial of personhood to Blacks before the Civil War,” he added.

Napolitano wrote that the 1973 Supreme Court Roe v. Wade decision that allows a mother to choose to abort her preborn baby has as its  “legal cornerstone” the “absence of personhood.”

“The opinion offers that because philosophers, theologians, scientists and physicians cannot agree on when personhood attaches, then neither will the justices of the Supreme Court. Thus, Roe declares that the baby in the womb is not a person. Yet, legally, if the baby in the womb is a person, then a host of constitutional protections insulate the baby from being killed by her mother and her physician,” he wrote.

Napolitano warned that the pro-abortion Biden administration will do its best to insulate Roe from being overturned by the Supreme Court, currently stacked with conservative-leaning judges thanks to the addition of three judges by the pro-life Trump administration.

“Coming our way is a massive effort by pro-abortion forces at the state and federal levels to shore up Roe — to insulate it from interference by the Supreme Court — and thereby make abortions more available and, in some states, performed at taxpayer expense,” he wrote.

“President Joseph R. Biden has stated that he wants Congress to enact a statute that will put into positive law the right of every woman to kill her unborn child at any time, irrespective of what various states have enacted to preserve the lives of unborn children,” he added.

Napolitano sees that answering the question “is the baby in the womb a person” as the key question in the fight to end abortion, especially since the Declaration of Independence states that the right to life is “inalienable” and since the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution is clear that no state shall “deprive any person of life.”

“Is the baby in the womb a person? Biden does not want to answer that question,” he wrote, adding that the president “won’t go near this.”

The former judge called the right to live the “highest right there is.”

“Any society that can impair the right to live by declaring any groups to be nonpersons has rejected the self-evident concepts of right and wrong and cannot long endure.”

“Negating personhood is the most dangerous thing the government can do. It is a one-way slippery slope. Whose personhood will the government negate next?” he warned.

February 16, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – Pro-abortion lobbying group NARAL is celebrating the pro-abortion corporation Google’s decision to ban LifeSiteNews from YouTube, claiming that one of its most prominent critics should have been censored far sooner.

Last week, YouTube deleted LifeSite’s entire channel, including the entire library of videos published to it, over a handful of videos dissenting from left-wing orthodoxy on the proper response to COVID-19, including discussion of societal lockdowns and the ethical dilemma of using cells from aborted babies in vaccine research.

“Today’s deplatforming of LifeSiteNews is the latest in several steps necessary to curb dangerous disinformation online and stop anti-choice, white supremacists from masquerading as neutral news sources,” outgoing NARAL president Ilyse Hogue declared. “While this is a win, it came far too late. For years, LifeSiteNews has been allowed to trumpet falsehoods and advance the anti-choice agenda of power and control unchecked. We must continue to hold accountable the online platforms that allow extremism to flourish in the spotlight.”

Despite purporting to oppose “disinformation,” NARAL’s press release makes a litany of false claims against LifeSiteNews, including that this publication has “spread Islamophobia and promoted white supremacy,” and spreads “anti-choice disinformation.” 

NARAL does not include examples to attempt to corroborate any of these accusations. 

That NARAL celebrates the deplatforming of LifeSiteNews is unsurprising in light of our coverage of stories the pro-abortion group would rather go overlooked, from allegations of racial bias and insensitivity against NARAL by its own employees to the disconnect between the group’s public rhetoric and private advice.

NARAL is also notorious for promoting actual misinformation, including baseless accusations that Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh was a sexual predator, denial that some types of contraceptive drugs induce abortion, and a litany of false accusations against crisis pregnancy centers.

KANSAS CITY, Kansas, February 16, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — President Joe Biden must “stop defining himself as a devout Catholic” on account of his pro-abortion activism, said Kansas Archbishop Joseph Naumann in a recent interview, adding that the U.S. bishops “need to correct” the president for “acting contrary to the Catholic faith.”

Naumann made these comments when asked by Catholic World Report in a Feb. 13 interview how America’s bishops ought to respond to Biden professing himself to be a devout Catholic while being 100 percent pro-abortion.

“I can tell you how this bishop is responding,” he said. “The president should stop defining himself as a devout Catholic, and acknowledge that his view on abortion is contrary to Catholic moral teaching. It would be a more honest approach from him to say he disagreed with his Church on this important issue and that he was acting contrary to Church teaching.”

“When he says he is a devout Catholic, we bishops have the responsibility to correct him. Although people have given this president power and authority, he cannot define what it is to be a Catholic and what Catholic moral teaching is,” he continued.

“What he is doing now is usurping the role of the bishops and confusing people. He’s declaring that he’s Catholic, and is going to force people to support abortion through their tax dollars. The bishops need to correct him, as the president is acting contrary to the Catholic faith,” he added.

The Kansas City archbishop, who serves as chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) Committee on Pro-Life Activities, added later in the interview that Biden “has the responsibility not to present himself for Holy Communion.”

“When Catholics receive the Eucharist, they are acknowledging the Real Presence of Jesus, and also belief in the teachings of the Church. President Biden doesn’t believe in the Church’s teachings on the Sanctity of Human Life, and he should not put the priest in the situation where he has to decide whether or not to allow him to receive the Eucharist. He should know that after 78 years as a Catholic,” he said.

Biden has identified himself as a devout Catholic despite working to expand abortion, an act that the Catholic Church condemns as a “moral evil” that is “gravely contrary to the moral law.” In his first two weeks in office, Biden pledged to make abortion available to “everyone” by “codifying” the 1973 Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade, which imposed abortion on all 50 states. During that same time, he also revoked the Mexico City policy that blocks federal funds from going to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that provide or promote abortions overseas. Democrats have also pledged to eliminate the pro-life Hyde Amendment that prohibits federal funds from going to pay for abortions in programs like Medicaid.

On Biden’s Jan. 20 Inauguration Day, USCCB president Archbishop José Gomez warned in an open letter that Biden’s pledge to pursue anti-life and anti-family policies would advance “moral evils” in the areas of “abortion, contraception, marriage, and gender.” Gomez said that bishops “must continue to speak to President Biden, as well as all Catholics, and even all Americans, about the truth of what abortion is,” namely, “the intentional killing of a child.”

Not all U.S. bishops, however, were on board with Gomez’s approach to the scandal of having a president who calls himself Catholic while advancing the murder of preborn children. Cardinal Blase Cupich of Chicago called the open letter “ill-considered.” Bishop Robert McElroy of San Diego went as far as stating that abortion should not be used as the “de facto litmus test” in determining whether a Catholic politician is a “faithful Catholic.” McElroy also said that denying communion to a pro-abortion Catholic politician could only be interpreted as a “weaponization of the Eucharist.”

But San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone said that any decision to deny Holy Communion to publicly pro-abortion Catholic politicians, such as President Biden or House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, would not be “tied to politics” but would ultimately be about “protecting” the sacrament while helping such a person move toward repentance.

Catholics in public life who are “favoring something that is gravely evil,” the Archbishop said, are engaging in something “that's seriously sinful,” and puts them in a situation where they “need to confess that sin and be absolved before presenting themselves for communion,” he told EWTN in a Feb. 4 interview.

February 16, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — Currently, the number of executive orders signed by President Biden has eclipsed the forty-mark while reversals of Trump policies and heated debates between Democrats and Republicans are guaranteed to continue regarding what is best for the future of the country. Both sides claim they are right; they each claim to be on the correct side of the truth. As we will see with two proposed acts applauded by the Biden campaign, there is, in fact, no regard for science or objective truth in the White House. Biden is merely continuing the crusade for moral relativism that is being pushed to its illogical edges by the left. 

To begin we must confront the argument made by some that the left is not in favor of abolishing truth, but simply holds the truth that they believe in to be the valid one. Their religion or system of belief is that each person ought to be able to do what they want, when they want, and with whoever they want. Their stance of truth is that everyone must be viewed as exactly the same in order for them to be equal. Difference implies inequality, therefore, there can be no differences. However, the truth is (no pun intended) that the left has been crafting a plan to nullify objectivity for decades. Their stance is that truth is what we make it to be, not what reality tells us it is. 

Two laws, the Equality Act and the Do No Harm Actare both in the pipeline for the Biden administration and are likely to be passed. Both are examples of the chaos and ignorance which arises when truth is relative to those in power. The Equality Act is a move, among other things, to define abortion as healthcare and thereby make it “equal” to a cancer patient receiving chemotherapy. Abortion would become “treatment” that any pregnant women must be given access to. 

While chemotherapy and other genuine medical treatments aim at promoting healing, now the murder of the child in the womb is being equated to treating a disease. Human life is viewed as cancerous, something to be discarded as trash rather than valued with immeasurable dignity. When we decide that we can define reality based on what we desire, then such a law is made possible even when science has proven that the baby in the womb contains the DNA of a full-grown adult.

The Equality Act would also ratify Biden’s decision to instruct the proper agencies to prepare for biological males to compete against biological females in sporting events along with eradicating the idea of male versus female restrooms. His move to do so, explicitly demanded by the left, is a decision to allow the 1992 landmark Supreme Court ruling of Casey vs. Planned Parenthood to continue its trajectory. Casey stated that “the heart of liberty is the right to define one’s own concept of existence, of meaning, of the universe, of the mystery of human life.” 

Our country’s leadership desires to define men and women as biologically the same in order to define their own “concept” of what reality is despite the fact that our physical anatomy is complimentary: different but equal. It is, in fact, our differences that allow life to be created in the womb. If science, the average American, and even the average five-year-old can see the difference between men and women then why can’t the Left?

It should come as no surprise that this destruction of truth was the mode of reasoning for much of President Obama's policies regarding same-sex marriage, abortion and other ethical issues. Biden is merely following in the footsteps of his predecessor. In Obama’s book, The Audacity of Hope he states: “Implicit in the Constitution's structure, in the very idea of ordered liberty, was a rejection of absolute truth, the infallibility of any idea or ideology or theology or ‘ism’, and any tyrannical consistency that might lock future generations into a single, unalterable course.” Perhaps, the consistent use of the phrase, “for me, personally” by Obama was the manner in which he wished to convey the idea that moral relativism must reign.

The Do No Harm Act appears to be the pinnacle for Obama’s reading of the Constitution, along with it being the edge of the cliff for the Left falling into absurdity with its creation of the concept of “dignity harm” towards others as unlawful. Essentially, no business, institution or entity can cause other people’s feelings to be hurt by holding something to be true which might be contradictory to their life’s decisions. No company can “impose its views” on its employees. Therefore, Christian institutions which hold that marriage is between a man and a woman, that life begins at the moment of conception, that gender is either male or female and is permanent along with many other truth-based claims regarding human nature would be suspect to penalty. 

Moreover, the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, which ought to protect religious freedom, becomes null and void in the eyes of the Biden version of the truth. 

Americans must take notice that the entire world is watching our current state of affairs. When a government, such as ours, shouts to the globe that truth is determined by those in power it leads to the logical conclusion that tyranny is the only reality which rules.

NEW YORK, February 16, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — An acclaimed Catholic author and essayist has called upon Joe Biden to call time on attacks by Big Tech and the mainstream media on ordinary believing Catholics.

In her second open letter to Biden, published in Newsweek, Mary Eberstadt listed several examples of recent censorship and defamation of Catholics or Catholic institutions because they express the doctrines of their faith, and stated:

Mr. President, you are the most visible Catholic political leader in the world. You have a unique opportunity, once again, to demonstrate your stated commitment to being president for all. It's the bully pulpit. Call off the woke online haters stalking your fellow Christians. Call out the ugly, un-American tradition of which they are part. Tell your progressive allies, and everyone else, that prejudice remains prejudice—even when it is aimed against people who did not vote for you.

These Catholic institutions included Catholic World Report (CWR), the news wing of the venerable Ignatius Press, which primarily publishes works of Catholic philosophy and theology, often by popes and saints. CWR was temporarily banned from Twitter for posting a news item in which it factually stated that “Biden plans to nominate Dr. Rachel Levine, a biological man identifying as a transgender woman who has served as Philadelphia’s health secretary since 2017, to be HHS Secretary for Health.”

“Days later, authorities relent and restored the account,” Eberstadt observed.

“But the message they sent was loud and menacing. If a cultural authority as established as Ignatius Press can be punished online for being Catholic, who will be spared? 

Certainly not David Upham, an associated professor of politics at the University of Dallas. Eberhardt recounted how an “online mob” tried to get him fired from the faithful Catholic institution. According to the Dallas Observer, Upham referred to Dr. Levine in a Facebook post by his birth name, “referred to [him] as male”, and described how “dissenters” will be forced to lie about the new Secretary.

“Dissenters will have to say ‘SHE’ and ‘WOMAN’ or ‘HE’ and ‘MAN’ even when they know it’s false,” the professor wrote. 

“Dissenters will have to pay for and provide hormonal treatments that will materially harm men and women’s capacity to fulfill the command of almighty God to be fruitful and multiply by the mutual clinging of male and female.”

However, the university stood by its faculty members. “This time around, the woke pile-on failed,” Eberstadt recalled. 

“University of Dallas authorities refused to genuflect; instead, a joint letter from the provost and president affirmed that ‘The university embraces unreservedly the Church's articulation of the moral law.’"

The next Catholic institution cited was TAN books, which since 1967 has been publishing traditional devotional and theological material. Ads for its books have disappeared from Facebook and Instagram, Eberstadt observed, and smaller, lesser-known Catholic businesses have also suffered from the deplatforming of their ads.

Then there’s the Susan B. Anthony List, which since 1993 has supported pro-life politicians, especially women: Facebook censored its ads during the last election (and previously). Eberstadt noted that this is only one of several pro-life groups that Big Tech and the mainstream media interferes with and condemned the NBC’s “uncritical” acceptance of the notorious Southern Poverty Law Center’s characterization of even faithful Christian organizations as “hate groups.” 

“One such is the Ruth Institute, whose mission—in the words of its Catholic founder Jennifer Roback Morse—is opposing ‘sex abuse, pornography, and divorce’,” Eberstadt wrote. 

“Mr. President, the Catechism, for its part, also opposes sex abuse, pornography and divorce,” she continued. 

“By the standards of the SPLC, every Catholic in America who accepts the Magisterium now qualifies as part of a ‘hate’ group. So does every Catholic monastery, convent, school and archdiocese. So do Catholic soup kitchens, old-age homes, refugee resettlement programs, adoption agencies and other charitable operations run by the Church.”

Finally, Eberstadt cited a flagrantly anti-Catholic essay in the New Republic, which was accompanied by a cartoon depicting U.S. Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett as the pope.

In her first open letter to Biden, Eberstadt asked Biden to reach out to the March for Life in January, as a way of reassuring those who did not vote for him. Biden did not do this, but rather promoted abortion with some of his first executive orders. Nevertheless, Eberstadt hopes that the politician, who was baptized and professes to be a Catholic, will do something to protect his fellow Catholic Americans from further abuse. 

“As the first president with a photo of Pope Francis in his office, you should be the last to ignore what that same pontiff has called 'the challenge posed by legislators who, in the name of some badly interpreted principle of tolerance, end up preventing citizens from freely expressing and practicing their own religious convictions in a peaceful and legitimate way’,” she concluded. 

Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, author and founder of the Ruth Institute, told LifeSiteNews via email that she was “grateful” for Eberstadt’s intervention.

“I am grateful that Mary Eberstadt catalogued in one place all the problems a Biden Administration is likely to pose for faithful Catholics,” Morse said. 

The foundress of the Ruth Institute observed that Eberstadt wrote the letter in “a way that takes Biden's self-identification as Catholic at face value.” Morse is not inclined to do that.

“I seriously doubt that he cares about the harm his administration will impose on the Little Sisters of the Poor and David Daleiden,” she said.  

“Biden is a self-described Catholic who is in active dissent from the Magisterium on every major contentious issue,” she continued. 

Morse said that there is a “bigger problem” than the censorship and deplatforming of Catholics by non-believers: the activities of dissenting Catholics.

“The bigger problem that Eberstadt did not mention is that the government of the United States of America is now in the hands of dissenting Catholics,” she stated.  

“This unprecedented situation will heighten the tensions within the Catholic Church, and cause damage far beyond that which a purely secular administration could cause.” 

Carl Olson, the editor of Catholic World Report, told LifeSiteNews that he “certainly” agreed with Eberstadt but also that he believes “they will have no effect at all on President Biden.”

“He’s been in the public eye since the early 1970s, and his public record reveals, again and again, a man who is willing to say nearly anything (some of it plagiarized or blatantly false) to climb the political ladder,” the CWR editor said via email.

“It’s ironic, I suppose, that Eberstadt calls on Biden to use 'the bully pulpit' of the Presidency to push back against the anti-Christian haters and bigots, as Biden himself has often used his various positions of power to bully and attack others,” he continued. 

Robert Bork is a prime example of this [bullying], among others.”

Olson thinks that appealing to Biden as a fellow Catholic is “a pointless exercise, except to expose just how contrary Biden’s actions and stances so often are to clear Catholic teaching about sexuality, marriage, life, and related matters.” 

“Biden’s many anti-life initiatives during his first weeks in office tell us what we need to know about his approach and priorities,” he added.

“And they are rarely, if ever, pro-Catholic. I don’t expect him to do much, if anything, to push back against the online hectoring, bullying, and bigotry.”

Wichita, KANSAS, February 16, 2021 (Operation Rescue) — Operation Rescue released a new video that documents 67 medical emergencies that took place at American abortion facilities in 2020, including one abortion-related maternal death.  The video vividly shatters the rhetoric of the Abortion Cartel that attempts to convince the public that abortion is safe.

The number of medical emergencies documented by Operation Rescue dropped from 100 recorded in 2019.  That decrease reflects the impact of the China Virus on abortion practices, including temporary clinic closures and mandatory shutdowns that kept some pro-life activists, who witness and report incidents, off the streets for a portion of last year.

Out of the 67 medical emergencies documented in 2020, 30 involved Planned Parenthood abortion facilities.

The following is a breakdown of specific recorded complications that were documented through 911 records and eye-witness accounts.  Some incidents may have had more than one complication.

  • Unknown complication: 27

  • Hemorrhage: 20

  • Uterine perforation/internal injuries: 6

  • Sick/vomiting: 6

  • Severe pain: 3

  • Possible heart attack or stroke: 3

  • Seizures: 2

  • Sedation overdose: 2

  • Not responding/unconscious: 2

  • Incomplete abortion: 1

  • Life-threatening complication from the abortion pill: 1

  • Maternal death: 1

Five of the abortion emergencies involved abortions in the second trimester or later.

These 67 incidents are anecdotal and reflect only abortion-related medical emergencies reported to or uncovered by Operation Rescue. 

It is not an exhaustive accounting of abortion complications by any means. In fact, there is no true accounting of the actual number of women who suffered abortion-related complications due to chronic under-reporting and the failure of many states to mandate abortion complication reporting.

“What we see is just the tip of a very nasty iceberg when it comes to the number of women who suffer serious complications from abortions,” said Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue.  “But what our data does show is that abortion is not safe, that women suffer horribly on a regular basis from life-threatening abortion injuries, and that sometimes women even die from botched abortions.  This is the ugly truth about abortion that Planned Parenthood and the rest of the Abortion Cartel does not want the public to know.”

February 16, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — “Mary, a model for faith and life for Christianity and Islam:” is the title of an upcoming series of online webinars presenting Our Lady as a bridge between Catholicism and Islam organized, among others, by the Pontifical Academy of Mary (Pontificia Academia Mariana Internationalis or PAMI).

Starting on February 18, ten weekly conferences will be given jointly by Catholic and Muslim speakers who will seek “dialogue, knowledge and cooperation” regarding themes such as “Mary, a woman of faith,” “God who is love and faith,” prayer, purity, hospitality and non-violence, fasting and penitence, fraternity and citizenship.

The Franciscan pontifical University of Rome, the “Antonianum,” is another co-organizer of the event through its Duns Scot Chair of Mariological Studies as well as the International Islamic-Christian Marian Commission and the Grand Mosque of Rome and its Islamic Cultural Center of Italy.

The Italian weekly Famiglia Christiana presented the event in the light of the Abu Dhabi declaration, illustrating its article on Saturday with a photo of Pope Francis signing the Human Fraternity Document together with Imam al-Tayyeb of the Al-Azhar University of Cairo.

Quoting at length from the Document, Gian Matteo Roggio commented: “The course of these webinars is therefore aimed at active, free, conscious, solidary and popular participation in the opening of this space of intersection, interconnection, hospitable reception, thus meeting the explicit requests of Pope Francis and the Grand Imam of Al-Azahr, the noble Sheikh Ahmad Al-Tayyeb.”

Readers of Famiglia Christiana in Italy are being asked to believe this: “The figure of Mary, a Jewish, Christian and Muslim woman, belongs by right and by fact to the path, the processes and the experiences that contribute to the generation of such an educational path, which makes a positive and confident wager on the embrace between generations and on a new politics and economy, where countries do not need to build their identity on contempt and on systematic negation, whether overt or covert, of the other and of others: an identity, that is, at the expense of the dissimilar and ready to identify in the other the cause of all the ills, failures, limitations and problems that instead have their multiple causes elsewhere. Belonging to these three religious and multi-cultural worlds (Judaism, Christianity, Islam), the figure of Mary is in itself a pressing and constant invitation to intersect and interconnect these same worlds, even making them a model of plural coexistence where the boundaries of each are made to allow communication, passage, exchange; and not to be closed, according to the many figures of exclusion that have, as their fruit, the culture, psychology, politics and economics of war, hatred and inhumanity.”

In the same grandiloquent style, Roggio added: “The webinars will end during the month of Ramadan with ‘the dates of Mary’ in the Conference Hall of the Great Mosque of Rome (health situation permitting): in memory of what is stated in the Holy Quran (Sura 19,22-26), namely that after giving birth near the trunk of a palm tree, she was called by the newborn child who told her ‘Do not be sad [...] shake the trunk of the palm tree towards you and it will drop fresh and ripe dates on you. So eat them,’ a meal of friendship and fraternity will be shared once the sun goes down, as a tangible pact of alliance for the service to the common good of all, no one excluded, in obedience to the ‘understanding of the great divine grace that makes all human beings brothers’ (Document on human brotherhood for world peace and common coexistence).”

Roggio, the author of these very pro-Islamic lines, is not simply a journalist, he is a member of the religious order, the Missionaries of Our Lady of La Salette. He studied Mariology at the Pontifical Academy of Mary and is now a professor at the same institution. Roggio will be giving the lecture on “God who is love and mercy” on February 25, together with Islamic theologian Shahrzad Houshmand Zadeh, who teaches at the Gregoriana Pontifical University.

Roggio’s words therefore clearly express the spirit of the coming Islamo-Christian webinars: a spirit of profound relativism and misleading equation between the Catholic faith and Muslim beliefs.

The real question is this one: is the Virgin Mary whom we Catholics honor as the Mother of Jesus, only Son of God and the Word Incarnate, the same person as the woman named “Miriam” by the Quran? Is her son, Îssa, the Quranic equivalent of Jesus? He would then be a “Jesus” who could not in any way be the Son of God, because, the Quran proclaims, such an idea is “something monstrous” and that “it is not fitting for the Most Merciful to have a son.”

LifeSiteNews asked Moh-Christophe Bilek, a Kabylian convert from Islam to the Catholic Faith, whether the Quran really honors the Virgin Mary, Mother of Jesus. Bilek founded an association for Muslim converts and for the evangelization of Muslims, Notre Dame de Kabylie. Born in Algeria in 1951, he has lived in France since 1961 and converted in 1970.

“When looking at historical figures, you need to ask where and when they were born. In the Quran, only one thing is said about the place where Miriam finds herself: it is when she gives birth ‘in the desert.’ You probably know that biblical figures in the Quran all come from the Old Testament, except for three of them: John the Baptist, whose father is identified as Zachariah; Miriam, whose father and brother are named as Imran (Amran) and Aaron. Miriam appears to be the eldest, the same Miriam who followed the reed basket in which Moses had been left to float on the Nile and who then acted as intermediary with Pharaoh’s daughter. Later, the Quran mentions ‘Moses, brother of Aaron’,” explained Bilek.

The Old Testament also speaks of Miriam, he observed: she is always presented as the sister of Moses, a prophetess, who disagreed with her brother and was then punished by God; she went to die in the desert. Her “son” Ïssa of whom the Quran speaks does not appear in the Old Testament, Bilek recalled: “Besides, in the Quran, Moses is the one who is an important prohet.”

“The name Jesus – called Yeshua or a similar variant in Arabic, Aramaic or Berber – means ‘God saves’ in Hebrew. ‘Îssa’ does not mean that at all,” said Bilek, showing that for Muslims, “Miriam” and “Îssa” have nothing to do with the Savior of Mankind and His blessed Mother.

However, he observed, “Muslims are very intent on equating Îssa with Jesus and Miriam with Mary, in order to create a link with Christianity. The Quran always speaks of Îssa; the confusion arises from the name Miriam which is indeed the same name as Mary. This confusion did not arise in the Orient where Muslims are obliged to read the Quran in Arabic – it was not translated into Middle-Eastern languages – but not to understand it: they must merely be able to recite it by heart. This all started in the West in the 12th century when Peter the Venerable translated the Quran, in view of evangelizing Muslims, with the help of an Islamic believer who pushed Peter into translating ‘Îssa’ as ‘Jesus.’ Since then, everyone has been doing the same,” Bilek explained.

LifeSiteNews asked Bilek why the Quran tells a story loosely related to the Annunciation. He answered: “In that story, why isn’t Nazareth or Judaea named? Or Bethlehem? No indication is the same. I believe this is deliberate, in order to make confusion possible.”

It is a confusion that Bilek strongly rejects as a convert – while at the present, every time the Gospel is translated into Arabic, the so-called Quranic name of Jesus, “Îssa”, is used. 

“When I was helping a White Father to translate the Gospel to Arabic, I refused absolutely,” Bilek said. “If Îssa is the equivalent of Jesus, then Christianity must collapse, because then he is not the Son of God, and he did not come to save humankind.”

Bilek added: “In the Quran, Adam sinned, but as soon as he left the Garden of Paradise, God pardoned him, rendering Redemption unnecessary. Saying that the Îssa of the Quran is the same as Jesus-Christ inevitably leads to relativizing Christianity, if not destroying it altogether.”

He added that most converts from Islam to Catholicism leave their old religion without knowing much about it, but that they simply arrive at the conclusion, once they learn about Mary and Jesus, that they cannot be the same as the figures mentioned in the Quran. A Muslim who encounters Jesus for the first time cannot think He is the same – otherwise, it would be useless to convert!”

This is not true of converts to Protestantism, Bilek said. The story of the “Annunciation,” as told by the Quran, indeed has very little in common with the Gospel of Saint Luke. 

Thus surah Maryam tells of the birth of John the Baptist, vaguely following the biblical account, and the “Annunciation” by the angel Gibril to “Maryam” of the (more or less) virginal birth of her son.

In the surah, the assent of the woman, Maryam, is not required. Mary’s “fiat” does not exist in the Quran, she does not freely accept to give birth to the Messiah when the angel “Gibril” appears to her “as a man in all respects.”

20. She said, “How can I have a son, when no man has touched me, and I am no harlot?”

21. He said, “Thus said your Lord, ‘It is easy for Me, and We will make him a sign for humanity, and a mercy from Us. It is a matter already decided.’”

22. So she became with child, and went away with him to a far place.

Further on in the surah, Maryam is called “sister of Aaron.” And she says:

35. It is not for Allah to have a child — glory be to Him. To have anything done, He says to it, “Be,” and it becomes…

As remarked earlier on, the birth of Îssa in the desert is no more in line with the Gospel’s detailed and precise account of Jesus’ historical birth under precise historical circumstances than this story.

LifeSiteNews asked Bilek what role he thinks the Virgin Mary does have towards Islam. He answered by referencing the book of the Apocalypse and the figure of the woman in the sky in the throes of childbirth, who must flee to the desert because she is attacked by Satan. 

“If God has permitted Islam to exist, and all this confusion, it is because something else will happen. I firmly believe that the Woman of the Apocalypse will set things right. She is adorned with twelve stars, clothed by the sun, and the moon is beneath her feet: I believe these symbolize the monotheistic religions: we know that the moon is the symbol of Islam, and it is underneath her feet.”

He concluded: “God willed one religion only: if not, why would He have committed Himself to the extent that He did, even unto dying on the Cross for our salvation? Now they are behaving as if Islam can be true or bring truth as well as Christianity, but then Christianity is vain. But we have faith and we know that God only can resolve the issue of Islam.”

February 16, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — Republican lawmakers in North Dakota and Mississippi approved bills last week to outlaw males with gender dysphoria from competing on women’s sports teams. The new efforts to protect women’s and girls’ sports come three weeks after the Biden administration issued an order mandating that gender-confused men and women be included on teams for members of the opposite sex.

On Thursday, the Mississippi state senate approved the “Mississippi Fairness Act” requiring public educational institutions in the state “to designate [their] athletic teams or sports according to biological sex.” The senate passed the bill by a 25-vote margin.

“I’ve had numerous coaches across the state call me and believe that they feel there’s a need for a policy in Mississippi because they are beginning to have some concerns of having to deal with this,” Republican state Sen. Angela Hill, the primary sponsor of the bill, said.

“God blessed all our efforts,” she added in a Facebook post.

The Mississippi Fairness Act now moves to the Republican-controlled House of Representatives ahead of consideration by Gov. Tate Reeves, who has slammed the Biden administration for forcing girls “to compete with biological males for access to athletics.”

North Dakota House lawmakers also overwhelmingly voted to ban male high school students from female teams on Thursday, passing HB 1298. Co-sponsor state Rep. Kathy Skroch said that the legislation “is about girls competing with girls, ensuring equal opportunity and keeping a level playing field in girls’ sports.”

“It upholds 50 years of progress and protecting women against discrimination and advocates for the preservation of biological standards,” she said.

Republicans in more than a dozen other states have advanced similar measures in recent weeks. In Montana, a House committee approved new protections for women’s sports last month, while a Utah committee did the same last week.

“Across America there are stories of individuals who identified as male at birth competing against our female athletes” and “breaking records that no female will be able to reach,” state Rep. Kera Birkeland told the Utah House Education Committee on Thursday.

“They’re taking championships, titles and scholarships from our female athletes,” she said. “To say it’s taking a toll on our female athletes would be an understatement.”

Congressional Republicans have joined the renewed push to maintain biological standards in sports as well, with Sens. Roger Marshall (R-KS) and Mike Lee (R-UT) introducing a bill earlier this month to bar taxpayer-funded colleges from allowing men to compete against women.

Marshall, a physician, said the Biden administration’s push to eliminate female-only teams “shows no common sense and will bring about the destruction of women’s sports,” echoing comments by other lawmakers.

Medical experts have repeatedly condemned letting gender-confused males play against women, citing immutable sex differences that give men a massive upper hand, despite attempts at hormone manipulation or “gender transition.”

Pregnant doctor celebrates taking COVID vaccine, tragically miscarries days later

MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin, February 16, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — A physician-advocate for the experimental COVID-19 vaccines has tragically miscarried her baby in the second trimester of pregnancy just days after publicly celebrating her reception of the injections. 

Dr. Sara Beltrán Ponce, a Milwaukee resident physician in Radiation Oncology, tweeted on January 28 that she was “14 weeks pregnant and fully vaccinated!” She shared that she had received the experimental COVID vaccine “to protect myself, my baby, my family, my patients, and my community! When it’s available to you, I encourage you to do the same.”

Ponce did not specify which of the experimental COVID vaccines she received, but went on to reemphasize several of the media-narrative talking-points with regards to COVID-19 government mandates, including the necessity for masks, social distancing and vaccination. 

Less than a week later, she announced the heartbreaking news of the loss of her baby “at 14 ½ weeks. My husband and I are devastated, but blessed to have each other and our sweet Eva. Rest in Peace, angel,” she wrote.

Such a sad scenario may have a rational explanation that was known and could be foreseen. 

In early December of last year, Dr. Michael Yeadon, a former vice president and chief scientist for Pfizer, along with another colleague, petitioned the European Medicines Agency (EMA) for the immediate suspension of all COVID-19 vaccine studies in Europe citing four primary concerns including dangers to mid-term pregnancies.

Of note, was the possibility of causing infertility “of indefinite duration” in women. As they explained, these experimental vaccines are expected to produce anti-bodies to attack “spike proteins” such as COVID-19. However, “spike proteins also contain syncytin-homologous proteins, which are essential for the formation of the placenta in mammals such as humans.” Therefore, the petitioners demanded that “[it] must be absolutely ruled out” that a coronavirus vaccine would not trigger an immune reaction against this protein, “as otherwise infertility of indefinite duration could result in vaccinated women.”

Government guidance in the U.K. urges various groups, including pregnant mothers, not to take the Pfizer experimental COVID vaccine, as well as stating that its impact on fertility is unknown.

In a tweet to the young grieving mother last week, fellow physician and founder of American Frontline Doctors (AFLD), Simone Gold explained this concern further stating the “[t]here is a known potential mid-pregnancy fertility risk of the experimental vaccine.” The outer layer of the placenta, she wrote, “becomes inflamed causing miscarriage. The vaccine is NOT cleared of infertility risk.”

Clarifying this topic further in a recent interview, Dr. Gold explained how losing a pregnancy “in the second trimester is not very common,” and that the typical reason this happens is that “the placenta has some kind of failure.”

This can occur, she said, with pregnant mothers who become infected with COVID-19, as is documented in the AFLD’s white paper. 

“The concern with the experimental COVID vaccine is that it may mimic kind of a permanent COVID status,” she explained. “So, you're taking a situation that would be time limited,” only for the short duration one endures an infection with the virus, with even the sad possibility of having a miscarriage due to the virus. 

“But what would be much worse,” Gold said, would be a scenario where a woman “forever more cannot maintain a pregnancy” because of receiving an experimental COVID-19 vaccine. “So, instead of just the one-time episode of the illness,” Gold continued, a woman may find she instead has “a lifelong episode of infertility.”

Attached to Dr. Gold’s tweet were screen shots of pages 23-24 of an AFLD white paper on the topic of these COVID-19 experimental vaccines. Explaining this significant risk in “layman’s terms,” the volunteer physicians organization explains that “getting COVID-19 has been associated with a high risk of mid-pregnancy miscarriage because the placenta fails – but the vaccine may do the exact same thing – but not for just the few weeks of being sick – but forever.” What this means, they continued, is “repeated pregnancies would keep failing ~mid-pregnancy.”

As the survival rate for individuals under 50 years is 99.98% (without early treatment), the AFLD’s white paper affirmed,“[i]t is completely reckless to give this vaccine to millions of people who would otherwise all be expected to recover” from COVID-19.

Dr. Gold put it even a little stronger. “It's lunacy to get this experimental vaccine if you're a young female,” she said. “It's that simple … I would flat out forbid any young female from getting this vaccine, and I think it's very unethical for any physician to offer this to a young female.”

LONDON, U.K., February 16, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — In yet another sign of future governmental control on daily life, U.K. Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab has hinted that vaccine passports will be required for access to supermarkets and pubs.

Speaking to LBC News over the weekend, Raab commented on the domestic use of vaccine passports to enter pubs and supermarkets, saying it was “something that hasn’t been ruled out. It is under consideration. But of course you’ve got to make it workable.”

Raab mentioned his personal concerns regarding the use of vaccine passports, not referring to a human rights issue, but instead saying how such documentation should be free from attempts at forgery or error: “You’ve got to know that the document that is being presented is something that you can rely on.”

The foreign secretary was then — to some extent — supported by Prime Minister Boris Johnson at the regular COVID press conference February 15, suggesting that negative test results for COVID-19, rather than passports, could be a pre-requisite for entering a theater or a nightclub.

Cinemas are already making their own plans for the imposition of passports, with a trial being set up to make entry into a cinema dependent upon proof of vaccination. Under the proposed scheme, which is concerned only with technical feasibility rather than legal issues, the cinema ticket would be “combined with the digital vaccine passport.”

Speaking to the BBC on February 16, Vaccine Minister Nadhim Zahawi suggested that the government would effectively give businesses the freedom to impose vaccine passports if they wished. “It’s up to businesses what they do, but we don't yet have the evidence of the effect of vaccines on transmission,” Zahawi stated.

In similar phrasing to Raab, Boris Johnson had also stated that on the issue of vaccine passports for domestic and international movement, “we will look at everything,” adding that vaccine passports for travel were “inevitable.”

“I think that is going to be very much in the mix down the road, I think that is going to happen,” declared Johnson.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock weighed in on the issue also. He pointed to vaccine passports being used for international travel, justifying the move by referring to countries requiring vaccination proof, and stated that he wanted “Brits to be able to travel to those countries and therefore enable Brits to be able to demonstrate their vaccine status.”

“In that case, it will be important for people from the UK to be able to show whether or not they have been vaccinated in order to travel, so we are working with countries around the world on the basis for this and how that vaccine certification can happen in a way that can be assured.”

At the same time, Hancock seemed to disagree with Raab on whether the government intended to enforce vaccine passports for entrance to domestic businesses: “We do not have plans to do that,” he claimed.

The ever more honest admissions about the U.K. government’s use of vaccine passports comes after many weeks of mixed messages, and contradictions. In December, Zahawi said twice that “we have no plans to introduce so-called vaccine passporting,” adding that he urged businesses “not to even think about that.”

However, in January the government finally admitted that it was funding a trial of COVID vaccination passports. Documents from InnovateUK revealed that government funding amounting to over £450,000 has been awarded to eight companies to help develop their projects. The various schemes funded are focused on creating apps, or accreditation platforms, which provide digital proof of immunity or vaccination for COVID-19.

Speaking on BBC Radio 4 this morning, Zahawi avoided questions about the legality of such vaccine passports as a condition for continued employment, only saying, “At the moment, the vaccination programme is non-mandatory.”

Former left-wing prime minister Tony Blair, a vocal advocate for digital ID’s, renewed his call for vaccine passports this weekend in time to coincide with the renewed push for the idea from the sitting government. Writing in the Daily Mail, Blair argued that “there is no prospect of a return to anything like normal without enabling people to show their Covid status, whether that means they have been vaccinated or recently tested.”

“This is not about discrimination, or hostility towards those not vaccinated or tested. It is a completely understandable desire to know whether those we mix with might be carrying the disease,” Blair continued.

However, in a column published in The Telegraph, former Supreme Court Justice Lord Sumption warned that “liberal democracy will be the biggest casualty of this pandemic.”

“A society in which oppressive control of every detail of our lives is unthinkable except when it is thought to be a good idea, is not free,” wrote Sumption. “It is not free while the controls are in place. And it is not free after they are lifted, because the new attitude will allow the same thing to happen again whenever there is enough public support.”

Sumption previously described the U.K. government’s plan to serve 10 year jail terms on travelers who lied about their country of origin as akin to tyranny: “[I]t believes, like every tyrant that ever lived, that the end justifies the means.”

Commenting on the recent news, political cartoonist and lockdown sceptic Bob Moran wrote: “This has happened a lot throughout all this. Government becomes aware that people are outraged by the idea of something: e. g. Vax passports. So it deploys some vacuous oaf like Raab to float an even more extreme version of the idea. Then it clarifies he was wrong and they aren’t even considering the extreme version of the idea. Everyone acts relieved and forgets what they were originally opposed to. A month or so later, the extreme version happens anyway.”

He was supported by Simon Dolan, who took the U.K. government to court over the illegality of the national lockdowns. Dolan compared the use of vaccine passports to the Nazis imposing a star on Jews to identify them in public: “It’s just a yellow star …”

Despite the U.K.’s continued promotion of vaccine passports, the Council of Europe (of which the U.K. is a part) recently ruled that such measures, as well as any discrimination against those who do not have the vaccine, would be a breach of human rights.

A petition has been formed which will be sent directly to the U.K. government, asking that vaccine passports are not brought in for use. At time of writing, the petition has over 140,000 signatures, meaning that Parliament must consider the petition for a debate.

February 16, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – The Russian Orthodox Church has issued a draft document suggesting that “given the significant development of reproductive technologies,” in vitro fertilization (IVF) may be an acceptable method of conceiving children “for spouses who are in childbearing age.”

The document, titled, “Ethical Issues Associated with the In Vitro Fertilization Method,” was sent to the dioceses of the Russian Orthodox Church as part of a project to implement a possible change in its law regarding IVF, on account of developments in the technology over the last 20 years since the Russian Church first formulated a position.

As things stand, the Russian Church has made a negative determination on the moral liceity of IVF, a ruling which can be found in the document “Bases of the Social Concept of the Russian Orthodox Church,” adopted by the Council of Bishops of the Russian Church in 2000.

The text argues that based on the moral repugnance of abortion, “the Orthodox point of view” is that “all kinds of extracorporeal fertilisation (IVF) involving the production, conservation, and purposeful destruction of ‘spare’ embryos” are “morally inadmissible.”

Proponents of a revision to the doctrine claim that “the main ethical problem associated with IVF is the use of techniques that involve the destruction of part of the embryos,” thus setting up the argument that, if IVF can be developed in a way that does not destroy embryos, then it can be morally permissible.

The proposed revision to this doctrine would introduce an exception to the inadmissibility for those IVF procedures that either wholly, in part, or without hormonal stimulation, reap eggs from the mother which “will be subjected to extracorporeal fertilization, which will then be transferred into the womb without freezing,” emphasizing that no “excess” embryos can be created.

While the authors do make provisions that no cryogenic preservation of embryos can be accepted and that donation of sperm cells from a man who isn’t the husband cannot be accepted, they neglect to tackle the moral issue of IVF replacing the marital act as the God-ordained means to bearing a child.

The doctrinal document from 2000 clarifies, to some extent, the Russian Church’s moral positioning regarding marital relations and medical intervention for the sake of childbearing, allowing for artificial insemination “since it does not violate the integrity of the marital union,” on their account.

Conversely, the Catholic Church teaches that since IVF completely diminishes the marital act as the means of achieving pregnancy, it can never be moral. Like the Russian Church, Catholic teaching recognizes the abortive nature of IVF, and the associated practice of cryogenic preservation of embryos, as immoral.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church states in section 2377: “Techniques involving only the married couple (homologous artificial insemination and fertilization) are perhaps less reprehensible [than surrogacy, for example], yet remain morally unacceptable. They dissociate the sexual act from the procreative act … ‘Under the moral aspect procreation is deprived of its proper perfection when it is not willed as the fruit of the conjugal act, that is to say, of the specific act of the spouses’ union.’”

In an explanatory note attached to the end of the Russian Church’s draft document, the authors noted there was divided opinion among members of the Church as a whole.

“Currently, there is disagreement among the church community on the use of IVF. Some of the clergy and medical specialists oppose IVF in any form in principle. Others argue that a categorical ban on IVF for childless Orthodox Christians would mean depriving them of the opportunity to find the joy of parenthood.”

Opposition to the revision seemed strong, with some demonstrating that “a significant part of attempts to implant embryos have been unsuccessful, so there can be no complete confidence in the preservation of the life of embryos.”

They added that “permissible IVF” is an “artificially contrived concept, since IVF cannot be distinguished from the developing system of assisted reproductive technologies, which takes the conception of a child outside the marital relationship. To consider the mystery of the conception of a child outside the blessed marriage union is unacceptable and distorts his Christian image.”

Therefore, “any attempt to create an artificial environment and artificial mechanisms of conception is considered by some opponents of IVF in any form as a humiliation of the dignity of the human person and a sin.”

Nevada proposes legislation to allow tech companies to form ‘smart city’ governments

CARSON CITY, Nevada, February 16, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — Proposed legislation in Nevada would give tech companies specializing in fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), wireless data management, and biometrics the power to form their own separate “smart city” governments. Observers are concerned about the consequences, especially in the context of residents’ privacy.

Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak (D) announced the planned legislation during his State of the State address on Jan. 19. The proposal would give “innovative technology” companies the power to form separate local governments with the same authority as a county, called “Innovation Zones.” Such governments would have the ability to levy taxes, form justice courts and school districts, and provide government services.

The draft proposal, which was last updated on Jan. 31 and has not yet been introduced in the legislature, lists the specific kinds of companies that fall under the umbrella of “innovative technology”: They include artificial intelligence, wireless technology, “the Internet of things,” blockchain, biometrics, and renewable resource technology.

The proposal explains, “‘Innovative technology’ means any new or emerging technology, or novel use of an existing technology, to address a problem or provide a benefit in government administration, government services, nonprofit organizations or private enterprise in this State.”

The draft further states that an “alternative form of local government” is needed to “further economic development within the State.”

The “traditional forms” of local government, it says, are “inadequate alone” to make the State “a leader in attracting and retaining new forms” of business and “fostering economic development in emerging technologies and innovative industries.”

Poised to lead this proposed groundbreaking endeavor is a company that uses blockchain technology, specifically a special kind of ledger to permanently and securely record transactions. Blockchain was originally invented to serve the cryptocurrency bitcoin, “but also has been adopted by some local governments for everything from documenting marriage licenses to facilitating elections,” according to the Associated Press.

Sisolak shared on Jan. 19, “Following passage of my Innovation Zone legislation, Blockchains, LLC, has committed to make an unprecedented investment in our state to create a smart city in northern Nevada that would fully run on blockchain technology — making Nevada the epicenter of this emerging industry and creating the high paying jobs and revenue that go with it.”

Blockchains explains the company’s vision on its website: “We envision a world transformed by blockchain technology, in which the distinct line between digital- and real-world interactions no longer exists.”

“Our software solutions presently in development focus on preparing the world for the next phase of the internet’s evolution — Web 3.0 — with an emphasis on digital identity, digital assets, connected devices, and a stable means of digital payment,” their website states.

Blockchains further explains their “smart city” vision: “By connecting smart devices to a blockchain — from smartphones and computers to internet-enabled cars, smart locks, advanced manufacturing machines, and security systems — we can facilitate marketplaces, payment services, or even a sharing economy for the Internet of Things.”

According to IoT Agenda, “The internet of things, or IoT, is a system of interrelated computing devices, mechanical and digital machines, objects, animals or people that are provided with unique identifiers (UIDs) and the ability to transfer data over a network without requiring human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction.”

The “innovative technologies” listed in the Nevada proposal, such as the IoT that Blockchains mentions, all facilitate the “smart city” envisioned by Blockchains, founded on the interconnectivity of a wide spectrum of data.

The multinational electrical systems company Thales Group notes, “In the age of IoT and smart cities, data is the new oil.”

Thales Group explains how data interconnectivity could benefit city functions: “Citizens engage with smart city ecosystems in various ways using smartphones and mobile devices and connected cars and homes. Pairing devices and data with a city’s physical infrastructure and services can cut costs and improve sustainability.”

“Communities can improve energy distribution, streamline trash collection, decrease traffic congestion, and even improve air quality with help from the IoT.” The site continues, “Without actionable, real-time, and reliable access to data, the smart city can’t thrive.”

Blockchain technology has been described as “instrumental” to Web 3.0 and the IoT, which itself is a defining feature of Web 3.0, by “allowing users to interact and removing trust issues through smart contracts.”

Many have expressed concerns about the infringement on privacy and security that IoT poses, even where the government may supposedly not be intimately involved in access to personal data.

However, if the very company that manages data transmission — in this case, Blockchains — is itself the government, then unprecedented questions are raised about the very meaning of privacy.

An editorial for WIRED has warned regarding the IoT, “You aren’t just going to lose your privacy, you’re going to have to watch the very concept of privacy be rewritten under your nose.”

The Las Vegas Review Journal has noted that in 2018, Blockchains, LLC, bought about 67,000 acres of undeveloped land in Storey County, Nevada.

“Since then, the firm has given heavily to political candidates and PACs,” the Review Journal continued. These donations have included $50,000 to a Home Means Nevada PAC, “which managed Sisolak’s transition into office, in January 2019, according to campaign finance records,” and “$10,000 to Sisolak’s campaign in the 2018 election cycle.”

February 16, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — America, a magazine published by the Jesuits of the United States, encouraged Catholics to ignore Mass obligations in an article on Friday, implying that “conscience” could overrule bishops’ directives.

The article, titled, “Explainer: Your bishop said it’s time to come back to church. Is it a sin if you don’t go?,” came days after the Archdiocese of Detroit announced the end of a Mass dispensation enacted in light of COVID-19 almost a year ago.

“Catholics are obligated to attend Mass, although there are circumstances when they should not,” the article states. “But beyond the three examples cited in official church teaching — lack of a priest, illness and caring for infants — the specifics regarding what qualifies as a serious reason for missing Mass are left to individual believers,” it claims.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church notes that “the faithful are obliged to participate in the Eucharist on days of obligation, unless excused for a serious reason (for example, illness, the care of infants) or dispensed by their own pastor.”

“Those who deliberately fail in this obligation commit a grave sin,” the Church teaches.

Bishops, as “vicars and legates of Christ,” have variously expanded and restricted exemptions from Mass in their dioceses throughout the COVID-19 crisis. For example, after suspending the Sunday Mass requirement last spring, Archbishop Jerome Listecki of Milwaukee declared the general dispensation over in August, stating “[i]t will be the responsibility of those who are capable and not prohibited by other circumstances to attend Sunday Mass.”

“Fear of getting sick, in and of itself, does not excuse someone from the obligation,” he declared, echoing the pronouncement that deliberate failure to attend Mass incurs “grave sin.”

America nevertheless appeared to endorse disobedience to such directives, quoting Adam Rasmussen, a Georgetown University lecturer, who said that “[p]eople have to make their own decisions about what is the right moment to go to work, to school and to church.”

“Everyone has to decide that with their own conscience,” he claimed.

Rasmussen, a dissident, pro-LGBT professor who has defended Pope Francis’s support for civil unions and affirmation of Pachamama statues, had slammed the Detroit archdiocese earlier last week for insisting on “essential” participation in the Eucharist.

“In allowing the general dispensation to expire, we welcome back to Mass all Catholics who have already been engaged in other activities that would present a similar or greater risk of exposure,” wrote Detroit Archbishop Allen Vigneron last week.

“The dispensation granted by your conscience, when it decides what is or is not safe and responsible for you to do, can never expire,” Rasmussen responded in defiance.

Along with Listecki and Vigneron, other prelates, like Bishop Donald Degrood of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, have stressed limitations on relying on “conscience” to determine whether to return to Mass.

“If one wishes to avoid attending Sunday Mass in person due to significant fear or some other serious reason, the Church teaches us that we must carefully discern whether the fear is morally justifiable, or whether such fear is inordinate,” Degrood said in a letter restricting Mass exemptions to caregivers and those at risk of “severe illness” last summer.

He added that “it is essential” that discernment happen through prayer, followed by “good faith” decisions “based upon objective data.” The bishop echoed Listecki’s emphasis that Catholics rely on “well-formed,” “truthful” consciences when approaching the Sunday Mass obligation.

OTTAWA, Canada, February 16, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – Bosses of Pornhub, the most popular pornography website in the world and which has been shown to have hosted child rape videos on its platform, have claimed that the site is the “safest adult platform in the world.”

David Marmorstein Tassillo and Feras Antoon, executives of MindGeek, the parent company of Pornhub and a number of other pornographic websites, recently faced questioning from by the Canadian House of Commons Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics, which launched an investigation into the X-rated website after evidence came to light that Pornhub hosts content displaying child abuse and rape.

In February, 2020, Pornhub was caught saying that it had “verified” as a “model with valid 18+ ID” a 15-year-old victim of human trafficking who was shown being raped in dozens of videos uploaded to the site.The same girl was forced to have an abortion against her will by her male abductor. 

In December last year, the New York Times ran an exposé, detailing how Pornhub has made money from underage sex videos and revenge porn, with journalist Nicholas Kristof stating that the site “is infested with rape videos.”

“It monetizes child rapes, revenge pornography, spy cam videos of women showering, racist and misogynist content, and footage of women being asphyxiated in plastic bags,” Kristof wrote. “Most aren’t of children being assaulted, but too many are.”

In the course of his investigation Kristof found “many videos on Pornhub that were recordings of assaults on unconscious women and girls.” 

Last year both Visa and Mastercard announced that they were cutting ties with Pornhub and that their cards will no longer be compatible with the site, with Mastercard stating that their investigation of the site found illegal content.

But Antoon told the hearing that he and his colleagues are “very proud that we built a product that gets 170 million people a day” and questioned the extent of criminal activity on the site. 

“Don’t you believe that those four million Canadians coming every day to our site, if they see something so heinous and criminal … wouldn’t they be calling the police?” he said.

Tassillo weighed in, claiming that any criminal activity happens in spite of any “safeguards” they might have in place.

“It is possible that people committing crimes are able to circumvent our systems, similar to security on a home or security at a bank.”

“I truly believe, in my heart of hearts, that we are the safest adult platform in the world right now.”

Child-porn victim says videos led to depression and substance abuse

The same Canadian House of Commons committee also recently heard the testimonies of Pornhub child sex abuse victim Serena Fleites, now 19, who featured in a number of videos hosted on the site when aged just 13. 

Fleites told the committee that she was pressured by her boyfriend to film herself simulating another video he had seen on the website and to send it to him. Fleites told the panel that her boyfriend threatened to leave her if she wouldn’t do as he asked, saying “if you truly love me, you'd send me something like that.”

Though she was uncomfortable, she ultimately caved to his demands, made the sexually explicit video, and sent it to him, who then forwarded it to friends.

Weeks later, after Fleites had changed school in an attempt to escape from the shame of the incident, she was shown the video of herself by another student, which had been uploaded onto Pornhub and labelled “13-year-old brunette shows off for the camera.” Following this, Fleites says that she became depressed and turned to substance abuse.

Fleites claimed to have swiftly contacted Pornhub about the illegal video, saying it was “clearly child porn,” but that it still took several weeks to remove the film from their site.

“They could tell that was a child in the video, and they were still dragging out this process,” she said. “They didn’t want to take the video down because, at this point, it had millions of views and was bringing them in ad revenue and clicks to their site.”

When questioned about Fleites’ case Antoon told the committee that Pornhub has started an investigation, but that he currently doesn’t know if Fleites ever contated the site. “I’m not saying she’s not saying the truth,” he said, “I’m just saying with a first name and last name, it is impossible to know if she’s contacted us.”

‘Overwhelming’ evidence of criminal content

MP Jacques Gourde told the executives that MindGeek “are not protecting our Canadian teenagers who get caught in this situation where their lives are turned upside down.” 

Fleites’ lawyer, Michael Bowe, who has been investigating Pornhub for the last year, alleged that there are “hundreds of accounts,” just like hers, of children having images uploaded to the website.

One example shared by Bowe was of a 14-year-old girl who had been kidnapped at knife point and subsequently recorded being raped for 12 hours, the video of which was uploaded to Pornhub. Bowe noted that it took the company almost 3 months to remove the criminal footage, despite numerous pleas in the first weeks of it being online.

Of this and countless other examples, Bowe said “The evidence is overwhelming.”

Aghast at the lack of moral integrity shown by MindGeek executives, Bloc Québécois MP Marie-Hélène Gaudreau quizzed them on their consciences “as a parent” and “as a person” regarding the underage and non-consensual content, as well as the currently legal content that “still ruins lives.”

“I’m a father, I have a daughter, I have a wife, I have a mother. I’m heartbroken when I hear these stories,” Antoon said.

Currently, Pornhub is one of the most visited websites in the world, with around 3.5 billion visits in a given month, placing it above Netflix and Amazon.

However, momentum is growing in the fight to take Pornhub off of the internet for good.

On Friday, a class action lawsuit was filed by two child sex trafficking survivors in the U.S., backed by six law firms, against MindGeek and its self-styled “flagship” website Pornhub. The suit alleges sex trafficking involving minors and monetizing child pornography, as well as hosting and profiting from numerous rape videos. The suit also challenges MindGeek’s internal processes for moderating and uploading videos, where it sheds light on employees being incentivized to allow as many videos onto the site as possible, with bonuses being offered based on the quantity of approvals they make.

In addition to the legal action, Laila Mickelwait, of the pornography abolition organisation Exodus Cry, has launched a hugely successful petition to have Pornhub removed from the internet and the executives held accountable for the criminal activity they have facilitated. Already, the petition has garnered over 2 million signatures.

WASHINGTON, D.C., February 16, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – Donald Trump is gone (for now), and his second impeachment ended in failure. But before we can move on, there needs to be a reckoning for what this debacle revealed about the Republicans still in office – starting with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

From the start, McConnell has tried to split the difference between the conservative base and the GOP swamp. He was not among the seven Republicans who joined Democrats in voting for conviction, but made clear in a floor speech that he voted to acquit not because he was standing up to the incitement lie, but simply because former presidents are “constitutionally not eligible for conviction.”

The January 6 rioters stormed the Capitol, McConnell claimed, “because they had been fed wild falsehoods by the most powerful man on Earth — because he was angry he’d lost an election (...) There is no question that President Trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of that day.”

“The people who stormed this building believed they were acting on the wishes and instructions of their President,” he went on. “And their having that belief was a foreseeable consequence of the growing crescendo of false statements, conspiracy theories, and reckless hyperbole which the defeated President kept shouting into the largest megaphone on planet Earth.”

Say, remember when a deranged supporter of 2016 Democrat presidential finalist Bernie Sanders opened fire on Republican members of Congress, hospitalizing House Republican Whip Steve Scalise for months? McConnell didn’t feel the need to respond to that with any lectures about the dangers of inflammatory rhetoric or stoking extremism. Instead, we got, “I know the Senate will embrace that spirit (of bipartisanship) today as we come together.”

Remember, the narrative that Trump’s election challenge provoked the riot is not a good-faith argument; it’s a post-hoc justification for continuing to hold Trump responsible after the original theory, that Trump’s January 6 speech inspired it, fell apart upon reviewing Trump’s actual words and learning that the rioting was started by people who either left the speech early or skipped it entirely.

But McConnell is parroting it anyway.

Democrats are ascendant, the Left is as fanatical as it has ever been, the GOP is divided, and countless conservatives feel more abandoned by their party than ever before … yet instead of trying to address the concerns of 61 percent of Republicans in a productive way and re-unify the Right in time to ward off looming threats, McConnell chose instead to pander to Democrats, to the media, and to the hive of donors, lobbyists, and hangers-on that comprise the dominant culture of Washington, D.C. In short, this “leader” sided yet again with the Swamp against the people he’s ostensibly there to lead.

Why? At The Federalist, Young Americans for Freedom vice chairman Christopher Bedford offers a likely answer:

After four years of yelling “MAGA!” while pushing his own classic, corporate Republican policies, McConnell had hoped to rid himself and his conference of the conservative populist nationalism the former president had championed and go back to the way things were. He wants a return to promising to tackle illegal immigration before winking at corporate America that nothing will change. He wants to raise money on fighting the abortion of our infants while comfortably lifting nary a finger. He wants to shrug and change the subject when asked about men dominating women’s sports and using women’s bathrooms. He wants fewer taxes and more wars. Hell, he wants someone to blame for the Republican losses in the Georgia special election, and with them the loss of his seat at the head of the Senate.

Instead, his push to impeach ended with rebuke from his own conference. Angry and embarrassed, he blamed his own colleagues as well as the former president, performing a 20-minute attack ad for the left to use on Republicans for the next election cycle and beyond.

Longtime LifeSiteNews readers know that Mitch McConnell has never been nearly as effective, principled, or conservative as his fans insist, but this is simply too much. If naked contempt of one’s own base isn’t enough to finally oust him from leadership, it will be the surest sign yet that the Republican Party – as a national organization, at least – simply lacks the will to survive.

February 16, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — The patriotic American Right has long said that the United States is a force for freedom and democracy in the world. Even when acting as the world’s policeman (a status badly damaged both at home and abroad in the aftermath of the Iraq war started in 2003), it was generally understood that America’s mistakes were a result of naivete rather than sinister motive. The United States of America was a shining city on a hill, and anyone who insinuated — as Ron Paul and his counterparts on the Left frequently did — that anyone might see her differently was met with offended aggression.

But the reality is that America has, over the past-half century, been the primary exporter of cultural poison. Beyond Hollywood films and TV and American music and the collective coarsening and globalizing effect on culture, there is the Sexual Revolution itself — not to mention the tsunami of digital pornography.

Much of progressive thought metastasized first in America. Under Obama and again under Biden, abortion and the LGBT agenda are relentlessly pushed on more conservative nations with peoples who still hold to the values America has abandoned. The West is post-Christian. America leads the West.

Interestingly, the Daily Mail and the New York Times are reporting that prominent politicians, intellectuals and academics in France are now expressing concern that as America plunges towards progressive radicalism, other unwilling nations are being dragged along for the ride as their own young people follow the progressive Pied Piper.

According to the Mail, they “are arguing that American ideas on race, gender, post-colonialism — especially those coming from U.S. universities — are undermining French society and are an attack on French heritage.”

What makes this particularly significant is that French President Emmanuel Macron has indicated that he shares these concerns, noting in a speech last October that the French should not leave “the intellectual debate to others,” noting specifically that there were dangers in “certain social science theories entirely imported from the United States.” Macron’s education minister Jean-Michel Blanquer added that in France, there is a “battle to wage against an intellectual matrix from American universities.”

European academics are increasingly concerned as critical race theory as well as questions concerning race more generally have come front and center in the wake of the George Floyd killing, after which hundreds of thousands protested across Europe, swept up in a uniquely American moment. European nations, it goes without saying, have many of their own issues to address — the murder of an American man in a city most had never previously heard of was an odd flashpoint, unless you take into account the obsession many activists have with American progressivism.

Right-wing politicians such as Marine Le Pen have long warned of the importation of American leftism (I interviewed her niece Marion Maréchal, who shares many of her concerns, last year), and social scientists Stéphane Beaud and Gérard Noiriel observed in a recent book that American race politics are becoming a “bulldozer.” This has become evident as European university students have attempted to employ cancel culture tactics on prominent speakers who run afoul of progressive dogmas in the wake of the George Floyd killing and seek to apply American standards to European campuses.

According to the Mail:

Some French intellects have also argued that American universities are to blame for giving justification to acts of terrorism carried out by Muslims. After three Islamist terror attacks last fall, Education [M]inister Blanquer accused the universities of being complicit. He was supported in an open letter from 100 prominent scholars that blasted social theories “transferred from North American campuses.”

One of the signatories, Gilles Kepel, argued that American influence led to “a sort of prohibition in universities to think about the phenomenon of political Islam in the name of a leftist ideology that considers it the religion of the underprivileged.” Historian Pierre-André Taguieff argued in the same way that the “American-style black question” was a “totally artificial importation” to France.

He said that it was all driven by “hatred of the West, as a white civilization.” “The common agenda of these enemies of European civilization can be summed up in three words: decolonize, demasculate, de-Europeanize,” Taguieff said. “Straight white male — that’s the culprit to condemn and the enemy to eliminate.”

Macron has tactfully ignored these issues before now — while his government’s stance towards the idea of systemic racism in France being characterized as “dismissive,” he has increasingly addressed these concerns, perhaps in an attempt to court the Right prior to the election next year. It is interesting to note that politicians considered left-wing in Europe are free to make statements that would get a conservative crucified in Canada or the United States.

As the American Left embraces critical race theory, radical gender ideology, cancel culture, and neo-Marxism — and exports these ideas around the world via platforms largely run by Americans — a new strain of anti-Americanism is developing.
