Huge victory: Under pressure, New York ends mandatory COVID testing in schools

The new guidance follows in the wake of a lawsuit by CHD and eight parents of New York schoolchildren challenging mandatory COVID testing and closing of New York City Schools.

February 18, 2021 (Children’s Health Defense) — The New York State Education Department issued a letter Feb. 16 informing all public schools in the state that parental consent to COVID-19 tests for their children is not required for in-person instruction, or for participation in any school activities, including extracurricular activities.

The letter, which applies only to public and charter schools, follows in the wake of a lawsuit challenging the closing of New York City Schools and the mandatory testing for students.

The lawsuit was filed Dec.16, 2020, by eight New York City parents and Children’s Health Defense (CHD) against the New York City Department of Education and Mayor Bill de Blasio. The parents are represented by Attorneys James Mermigis, Ray L. Flores II, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., CHD chairman and chief legal counsel, and Mary Holland, CHD president and general counsel.

The Feb. 16 letter from Kathleen R. Cataldo, assistant commissioner, Office of Student Support Services said:

“The Department has received reports from the field that some school districts are requiring parents’ consent on behalf of their children, to COVID-19 testing as a condition of activities including in-person learning and extracurricular activities. The Department hereby clarifies that parent/guardian consent for COVID 19 resting of students may not be a condition of in-person learning or other school activities.”

Since Nov. 19, 2020, children in grades 6-12 have been completely excluded from all in-school education. NYC has provided no specific date by which these students will be back in school.

Since early December, K-5 and special needs students have been able to attend “blended learning,” usually just 1-2 days per week, but only if they submit to in-school polymerase chain reaction (PCR) genetic testing for COVID-19. If parents refused, the education department relegated their kids to remote learning for at least the next 10 months.

NYC schools were open to all students for blended learning September through mid-November, even though all families had the option of remote learning. Mayor de Blasio shut schools down again because of a rise in the city-wide PCR positivity rate.

As plaintiffs’ experts declared in their lawsuit, PCR testing does not diagnose COVID infection, even though NYC has represented to parents that it does. PCR testing generates many false positive results, leading to disruptive and expensive isolation and quarantine, the plaintiffs allege.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that in-school testing without voluntary consent is “unethical and illegal.” Coercing parents to sign consent forms on threat of exclusion is not voluntary, the plaintiffs allege, and the education department is acting in flagrant disregard of federal public health guidance.

As the lawsuit outlined, remote learning disproportionately harms those who can’t afford access to modern technology, including high-speed internet, computers, tablets, printers, scanners and more. Further, most students in NYC are Black and Hispanic, and many parents are wary to submit their kids to medical procedures without their oversight. They wonder what really happens with their children’s test results and DNA samples

The United Federations of Teachers (UFT), the New York City Teachers Union issued a statement that the state’s letter contradicts a plan agreed to by the schools and the union. “We will fight to make sure these protocols stay in place” according to a statement on the UFT Facebook page.

NY Teachers for Choice responded to UFT with an open letter to UFT President Michael Mulgrew outlining why NY Teachers for Choice supports the new guidance. The letter ended with:

“Virtually every other school district in New York, and across the country, does not force COVID testing on staff or students because doing so is illegal. I understand and respect that you are trying to do what you believe is best and safest for your membership. However, the UFT should not stand on the side of forcing an illegal practice to take place under its watch. Please accept the new guidance from NYSED and expand upon it to ensure teachers and staff rights are respected as well.”

The lawsuit by CHD and New York parents will continue until the school closure issue is resolved.

Pathologist: FDA ‘misled the public’ on Pfizer vaccine efficacy

In an amended reply to the FDA’s rejection of his concerns about Pfizer’s clinical trials, Dr. Sin Hang Lee says the FDA is glossing over potential risks of an mRNA vaccine while concealing its true efficacy.

February 18, 2021 (Children’s Health Defense) — Pfizer’s announcement in November 2020 that clinical trials showed its COVID-19 vaccine was “95% effective” prompted Dr. Sin Hang Lee, a Connecticut pathologist, to question Pfizer’s methodology and petition the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to require accurate counts of COVID-19 cases in the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 mRNA vaccine trial before granting the vaccine Emergency Use Authorization (EAU).

As The Defender reported in November, Lee, who is director of Milford Molecular Diagnostics, said:

“Until an accurate count of COVID-19 cases in the vaccinated and placebo groups has been determined for vaccine efficacy evaluation, we are asking the FDA to stay its decision regarding the emergency use authorization for this vaccine.”

Lee’s request was rejected by the FDA on Dec. 11, the same day the agency approved Pfizer’s vaccine for emergency use. On Feb. 8, Lee filed an amended reply

Here’s the sequence of events as they unfolded:

On Nov. 23, 2020, Lee, along with Informed Consent Action Network (ICAN) and its counsel, submitted a Citizen Petition and petition for administrative stay of action to the FDA relating to the phase 3 trial of the BNT162b/Pfizer vaccine to prevent the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2

In the petition and stay, Lee requested the FDA amend the study design for the late-stage trial of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine. Specifically, Lee requests:

“Before an EUA or unrestricted license is issued for the Pfizer vaccine, or for other vaccines for which PCR results are the primary evidence of infection, all “endpoints” or COVID-19 cases used to determine vaccine efficacy in the Phase 3 or 2/3 trials should have their infection status confirmed by Sanger sequencing, given the high cycle thresholds used in some trials. High cycle thresholds, or Ct values, in RT-qPCR test results have been widely acknowledged to lead to false positives … All RT-qPCR-positive test results used to categorize patient as “COVID-19 cases” and used to qualify the trial’s endpoints should be verified by Sanger sequencing to confirm that the tested samples in fact contain a unique SARS-CoV-2 genomic RNA.”

The petition makes these requests because the phase 2/3 clinical trial of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine uses a presumptive RT-qPCR (“PCR”) diagnostic test, which is known to generate high rates of false-positive results.

In addition, the Pfizer vaccine trial primarily uses a PCR test that employs cycle thresholds up to 44.9 to identify COVID-19 “cases” despite the fact that “positive” results that require cycle thresholds greater than 30 to 35 are usually false positives, according to Lee.

Lee offered to re-test the residues of tested samples in his laboratory if Pfizer is unable to do so in order to confirm Pfizer’s stated vaccine efficacy rate of 95%.

Lee’s Sanger sequencing-based method for molecular diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 was published in International Journal of Geriatrics and Rehabilitation.

On Dec. 11, 2020, the same day the FDA granted Pfizer Emergency Use Authorization for its COVID-19 vaccine, the FDA responded to Lee’s petition and request for stay.  The agency “conclude[d] that the petitions do not contain facts demonstrating any reasonable grounds for the requested action” and denied the petitions.

The FDA, among other things, stated that “PCR testing does not need to be followed by Sanger or other sequencing for purposes of clinical diagnosis. Currently, reverse real-time PCR (RT-PCR) tests can both amplify and confirm the identity of viral genetic material in a single reaction, without a separate sequencing step.”

On Feb. 8, Lee, through ICAN’s counsel, submitted a detailed and thoroughly cited reply to the FDA’s denial of his petition and stay. This reply points out the inaccuracies, contradictions and omissions in the FDA’s denial of the petition.

Lee wrote that the FDA’s letter denying the petition and stay “shows that the FDA has not conducted an adequate evaluation of the Pfizer vaccine’s efficacy, especially concerning issues about the accuracy of RT-qPCR testing of SARS-CoV-2 in clinical specimens.”

Lee’s detailed response, which can be read in full here, goes on to say:

“The FDA has misled the public. The key misleading statements are analyzed below point-by-point according to the sequence of their presentation in the Letter but under the following four categories for the convenience of the readers:

“A. Cherry-picking to eviscerate the guidance for issuance of an EUA for a COVID-19 vaccine.

B. Knowingly promoting inaccurate PCR tests for SARS-CoV-2.

C. Finding excuses for using PCR tests with high false-positive rates for this vaccine trial.

D. Glossing over potential risks of an mRNA vaccine while concealing its true efficacy.”

Lee, ICAN and others are weighing possible future actions.

Canada’s Conservative leader calls for pulling Olympics from China for ‘genocide’

China's abusive treatment of the Uyghurs stirred Erin O'Toole to speak out.

OTTAWA, Ontario, February 18, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — The leader of Canada’s official opposition has said that China should not be allowed to host the 2022 Winter Olympics due to their “genocide” of the Uyghurs.

“Genocide is taking place in China right now. Approximately one million Uyghurs have been forcibly relocated in detention centres for ‘reeducation’ in Xinjiang,” said Conservative Party of Canada (CPC) leader Erin O’Toole.

“People who have managed to escape have reported horrific, coordinated violence using physical, mental and sexual torture. Woman have spoken of mass rape and sexual abuse. Women have been subjected to forced sterilization. China is an incredibly secret state, so we can only imagine what else the Uyghur has been subjected to behind the curtain of communion.”

O’Toole made his comments this Tuesday at a press conference. He called on Canada’s government under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to reach out to the International Olympic Committee so the 2022 games can be moved out of China.

“The time has come for Canada to call on the International Olympic Committee to relocate the 2022 Olympics out of China. Canada must take a stand and show leadership, but we do not need to do this alone.”

O’Toole said Canada should work with its allies to get the games moved out of China and added that Canada has a strong role to play in ensuring that this happens.

“I think Canadians would agree that it would violate fundamental ethical principles to participate in an Olympic Games hosted by a country that is committing a genocide against part of its population,” said O’Toole.

Although O’Toole said the Olympics should be relocated out of China, he did not call for a boycott of the 2022 Olympics for Canada’s athletes.

O’Toole did note that Canada “should not be sending athletes to China in the middle of a genocide,” and noted that China has enacted a “police state” in Hong Kong.

On the last day of Donald Trump’s presidency, then–U.S. secretary of state Mike Pompeo officially called China’s terrible treatment of the Muslim Uyghur population in Xinjiang a “genocide.”

According to Pompeo, the U.S. State Department’s investigation into the Uyghur people showed “torture of a large number of those arbitrarily detained, forced labor, and the imposition of draconian restrictions on freedom of religion or belief, freedom of expression, and freedom of movement.”

Despite O’Toole using the word “genocide” to describe the treatment of the Uyghurs in China, Trudeau said Tuesday that using that term “genocide” was “extremely loaded.”

Trudeau refused to say whether Canada would call for the Olympics to be moved but said his government will be “looking at” the treatment of the Uyghurs.

On Sunday, Canada’s foreign affairs minister, Marc Garneau, said during an interview on CBC Power & Politics that the Trudeau government has not decided whether Canada will be sending athletes to the 2022 Beijing Olympics.

“I don’t have a position on that at this point,” said Garneau in the CBC interview.

Garneau also noted that Canada was not ready to call the situation of the Uyghurs in China “genocide” and that the government is still “reviewing the situation.”

Although Trudeau has not been vocal in calling out China’s human rights abuses, some members of his party were signatories of a letter signed by 20 M.P.s who called for the 2022 games to be moved out of China.

The M.P.s’ letter stated that the Chinese communist regime’s human rights abuses would taint any medals won by athletes at the games, comparing the situation to the 1936 Berlin games.

The M.P.s’ letter stated that it “would amount to taking part in a sinister, self-aggrandizing spectacle staged for the benefit of a regime that is perpetrating the worst possible crimes against humanity against its own people.”

“We want to ensure that the medals they win in 2022 are not tainted by what will no doubt go down in history, like the 1936 Berlin Games, as The Games of Shame.”

Since he took leadership last year, O’Toole, who advocates for legal abortion, has had a rocky start among the social conservative base within the CPC.

Recently, he booted from the party pro-life M.P. and CPC leadership candidate Derek Sloan. Sloan said he was “a ‘sacrificial lamb’ to appease left & liberal media.”

Despite O’Toole’s poor track record on life issues, he has been vocal in calling out China’s communist regime. He has spoken out regarding the detainment of the two Canadian Michaels, Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor, and has criticized Trudeau’s apparent coziness with the Chinese telecommunications company Huawei.

Late last year, LifeSiteNews reported that top-secret military documents showed that under Trudeau’s watch, troops from China’s Liberation Army (PLA) had been invited to train in Canada at a military base in Ontario.

This prompted O’Toole to blast the Trudeau government. O’Toole questioned why Trudeau “fought for Canada to train China’s military on Canadian soil, against the direct advice of the chief of the defence staff” shortly after “Canadian citizens (the two Michaels) were taken hostage by the Communist regime in China.”

EDMONTON, Alberta, February 18, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — A Canadian pastor jailed for ministering to his flock remains in prison, awaiting trial, after refusing to agree to bail conditions that he agree not to hold more church services that violate government restrictions justified by COVID-19.

This past Sunday, February 14, Pastor James Coates of Grace Life Church (Grace Life) of Spruce Grove, Alberta, held a church service for his congregation, which was in violation of a January 29 order by Alberta Health Services (AHS), which had demanded that the church doors shut.

The AHS order came about as a result of multiple visits by health authorities to the church over the previous weeks and months. The AHS claims that the visits showed that the church had been repeatedly violating the provincial rules forcing people to wear masks and stay away from each other along with strictures regarding building capacity.

Coates and Grace Life Church are being represented by the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms (JCCF).

According to the JCCF, at Grace Life’s February 7 Sunday service, two members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) met with Coates and others, telling him they were there to arrest him and that he must stop violating the government’s orders.

The JCCF said Coates “explained to the officers that he could not do that because to do so would violate his conscience and prevent him from fulfilling his duty as a minister to lead his congregation in worship. The officers then left, without arresting him.”

The JCCF said an AHS inspector was at the church’s February 14 service to report “the activities of the attendees.”

Coates was notified this Monday by the RCMP that they planned to arrest him for defying the COVID-19 shutdown order and asked him to turn himself in. Coates complied.

He has been charged with contravening the orders put in place by Alberta’s chief medical officer of health (CMOH), Dr. Deena Hinshaw, and with “breaching an undertaking, even though he did not agree to the undertaking.”

Coates’s bail hearing was held this Tuesday. According to a statement posted yesterday by the JCCF, the Crown Prosecutor asked the court to keep Coates “in jail until his trial, which will be at least several weeks away.”

“The Justice of the Peace ordered Pastor Coates released on the condition that he stop holding church services, a condition he could not, in good conscience, agree to,” reads the JCCF news release.

“Pastor Coates is currently in jail, awaiting trial, as he will not be released unless he agrees to the condition, or the Prosecutor agrees to withdraw the condition.”

Grace Life, which can hold nearly 400 congregants, is located close to Alberta’s capital city of Edmonton. Under the current Alberta COVID rules, churches and other places of worship can operate at no more than 15 percent of the capacity allowed by the building fire code. Masks are mandatory, as are the sanitation of hands and keeping away from other people.

JCCF lawyer James Kitchen told LifeSiteNews that the constitutionality of the Justice of the Peace’s insistence that Coates be released only on the condition that he halt all future church services “is linked to the constitutionality of the public health orders.”

“The condition is only asking Coates to comply with the public health orders — which do violate freedom of religion and peaceful assembly as protected by sections 2(a) and 2(c) of the Charter,” Kitchen told LifeSiteNews.

Kitchen told LifeSiteNews he could have the pre-trial dates for Coates as early as the end of this week and that, ideally, he would like to see a trial “within a month,” but that is unlikely.

“This has to be quick, but things can only move so fast. To have a trial within a month would be fast. That is what I hope for,” Kitchen told LifeSiteNews.

Kitchen noted that it is possible — but far from certain — that Coates will be released from jail before his trial. He also told LifeSiteNews that the JCCF will be filing an appeal to Coates’s bail conditions “within a couple of days.”

The Parkland County RCMP confirmed in a press release that Coates is to appear in court on February 24.

Grace Life, which is located right next to a highway, had been visited multiple times by AHS inspectors, which the JCCF says is most likely due to being “snitched on.” On December 17, 2020,  an AHS health inspector issued an order, which was posted online, to comply with the COVID-19 restrictions in place.

The church, under Coates, continued to operate Sunday services. However, on January 21, 2021, the AHS filed a court application so its December 17 order could be enforced. The Court of Queen’s Bench allowed the AHS’s application and then ordered the church to comply.

Grace Life has said that the frequent inspections by AHS officials could be “a potential criminal offense, pursuant to section 176(2) of the Criminal Code of Canada,” which bans the interrupting or disturbing of a religious worship service.

“AHS has taken a slow approach, compared to small business,” Kitchen told LifeSiteNews. “As far as I am concerned, all of it is harassment, Big Government overreach.”

LifeSiteNews sent inquiries to the office of Alberta’s Catholic premier, Jason Kenney, as well as the Alberta Ministry of Health, asking why the government has allowed a Christian pastor to be placed in jail for practicing his faith. As of press time, there has been no response to either inquiry.

On Wednesday, the JCCF called upon Kenney to rescind Hinshaw’s COVID orders via a scathing letter, blasting him for Coates’s arrest.

“For the first time ever, Alberta has arrested and incarcerated a Christian minister for the ‘crime’ of holding a church service,” reads a portion of the letter the JCCF sent to Kenney.

“For the past eleven months you have permitted Dr. Hinshaw to rule unilaterally over the citizens of Alberta. You have initiated no legislative review of Dr. Hinshaw's Orders.

“When suffering Albertans contact you with their stories of extreme hardship and business losses, and outrage at lockdowns, your excuse is that your hands are tied. You have stood idly by while Dr. Hinshaw closes businesses and churches and holds daily briefings to scare everyone about a virus which the data unequivocally shows has only a negligible impact on life expectancy in Alberta.”

The letter also directly challenges Kenney to ensure that Albertan’s Charter rights are respected.

“Pastor Coates and his congregation have a constitutional right to assemble for worship in accordance with the dictates of their conscience and religion. That is their obligation to God, and they are going to continue to obey their conscience and religious convictions when Dr. Hinshaw’s Orders come into conflict with the requirements of their God,” reads the JCCF letter to Kenney.

“We remind you, since it is apparent that you need a reminder: the Constitution is the supreme law in Canada, not the Orders of Dr. Hinshaw.”

Former Alberta MLA and now leader of the growing Wildrose Independence Party of Alberta Paul Hinman took to Twitter to blast Kenney as a “hypocrite” after Coates’s arrest.

“What a total hypocrite! Jason, you just arrested a pastor on Ash Wednesday! You're also overseeing a system implemented unconstitutionally by your own hand where 85% of church goers are forbidden from attending services. It's time for you to repent @jkenney!” tweeted Hinman.

Grace Life responds to jailing of its pastor with statement

In a statement posted on Grace Life Church’s website regarding the situation surrounding Coates, the church stated: “The science being used to justify lockdown measures is both suspect and selective. In fact, there is no empirical evidence that lockdowns are effective in mitigating the spread of the virus.

“We are gravely concerned that COVID-19 is being used to fundamentally alter society and strip us all of our civil liberties. By the time the so-called “pandemic” is over, if it is ever permitted to be over, Albertans will be utterly reliant on government, instead of free, prosperous, and independent.”

The statement also notes that the church recently lost one of its members as a direct result of COVID-19 lockdowns, blasting them as “unnecessary” and “harmful.”

The church statement goes onto say that people should be allowed to “responsibly return to their lives.”

“Churches should open, businesses should open, families and friends should come together around meals, and people should begin to exercise their civil liberties again. Otherwise we may not get them back. In fact, some say we are on the cusp of reaching the point of no return. Protect the vulnerable, exercise reasonable precautions, but begin to live your lives again,” reads the Grace Life statement.

Grace Life’s statement also touches on death, noting that “life comes with risks” and that it is through Jesus Christ that one finds the message of “hope.”

“Every time we get behind the wheel of a car, we are assuming a degree of risk. We accept that risk due to the benefits of driving. Yes, though vastly overblown, there are associated risks with COVID-19, as there are with other infections,” reads the Grace Life statement.

“Human life, though precious, is fragile. As such, death looms over all of us. That is why we need a message of hope. One that addresses our greatest need. That message is found in Jesus Christ. It is found in Him because all of us have sinned and have fallen short of God’s perfect standard of righteousness.”

LifeSiteNews asks its readers to take the time to defend the religious liberty of Canadians by filing out our VoterVoice Alert to free Pastor Coates.

Political couple launches new party to represent Ontario’s conservatives

Belinda and Jim Karahalios have formed the New Blue Party of Ontario in a split from Progressive Conservatives.

February 18, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – Maverick Cambridge MPP Belinda Karahalios was ousted from Ontario’s Progressive Conservative Caucus for voting against Bill 195, a bill that has allowed provincial Premier Doug Ford to extend emergency orders a month at a time without consulting the legislature, and now she and her husband have launched an alternative provincial political party that they say aims to be loyal to grassroots conservative voters.

The New Blue Party of Ontario is officially registered as a party by Elections Ontario after gaining thousands of supporters. The party is inviting citizens to sign up online and is beginning to form riding associations throughout the province.

“Really there is no party in the Ontario legislature defending the taxpayer, defending small business, defending places of worship, promoting freedom, promoting democracy or fighting political corruption," MPP Karahalios recently told Guelph Today

“The PC Party is beyond redemption,” Belinda’s husband, Jim Karahalios, a former federal Conservative leadership candidate, told the Marc Patrone radio show recently. “You can’t work from the inside of that party unless you hire some of the lobbyists and you show up with a bag of money and you tell them, ‘Set me up a meeting. I want to work from the inside.’ You can’t do it democratically.”

“They’re a left-wing progressive party with no democratic system on the inside. There’s no working it from within, so me and my wife have set up the New Blue Party of Ontario because people are tired of it. People are fed up with being betrayed and spending their money just to be betrayed when it’s expedient,” he said.

Jim Karahalios, a lawyer with degrees in engineering, said he experienced the party’s corruption firsthand in the Conservative leadership race last spring. He had been involved with the party for 15 years and founded activist groups such as “Axe the Carbon Tax” and “Take Back Our PC Party,” which challenged the party’s use of suspicious nominations that led to allegations of election fraud. He didn’t believe candidate Erin O’Toole’s claims of being a “true blue” conservative so he entered the race.

Karahalios was popular among the grass roots and had raised nearly $300,000 for his campaign. He was in third place when he was barred from the race after O’Toole complained that Karahalios had made “racist, Islamophobic” remarks about O’Toole’s campaign chair, Walied Soliman.

Soliman is a Toronto lawyer who had worked on the legalities of financing arrangements that satisfy Sharia Islamic law restrictions on charging interest. The recipient of the United Nations’ Global Citizen Laureate award in Canada in 2019, Soliman is also a board member of the Black North Initiative that seeks to promote “diversity and inclusion” of racial and sexual minorities and to implement “unconscious bias and anti-racism education” in the workplace.

Karahalios challenged the PC party ruling that ousted him in court and won, but he bowed out of the race with too little time left to reclaim his losses.

“They’re afraid of anyone who can win who is not controlled by the small cabal,” Karahalios told Patrone, adding that both federal and provincial PC leaders have betrayed their conservative voting base by reverting to “leftist” ideology as soon as they are elected.

“No one is buying that Erin O’Toole is true blue as he played himself off in that race,” Karahalios said. “Now he’s revealing who he truly is.”

“The biggest fallacy I hear from the pundits in the press and even in conservative circles is that we’ve got to move to the left to win, but that’s not based on any facts,” Karahalios said.  “When we try to copy and pretend we’re liberals, whether it’s on the provincial scene or federal, we lose.”

Belinda Karahalios was elected under a PC banner in 2018 but said she wouldn’t do that today because the party has abandoned its election platform.

"The consistent lying to their base, the lack of transparency, who's scratching who's back and it's all gone away from the 'little guy,'” she told Guelph News. "We had issues with people getting involved with politics before and it's getting worse because people are seeing that they put their faith into a political party or a leader and the person gets into power and all the promises are broken, they forget about."

Karahalios voted against Bill 195, which she described in a press release in July as an "unnecessary overreach on our parliamentary democracy.”

“At its core, Bill 195 takes away the legislature's ability to vote on the use of extraordinary emergency powers on Ontarians for the next year,” the MPP said.

In her new role in the New Blue Party, Karahalios has challenged the Ford/PC government task force, which wants to adopt the Trudeau administration’s mandate for gender and sexual “diversity quotas” for all companies that trade on the stock market, calling it a “left-wing” policy that only creates “new regulatory burdens on business.”

High-ranking French govt leader compares Evangelical ‘problem’ to radical Islam

Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin also won't talk 'with people who refuse to write on a piece of paper that the law of the Republic is superior to the law of God.'

February 18, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) -- France’s interior minister sparked anger among the growing evangelical communities in the country earlier this month when he claimed on a popular news show that “Evangelicals are a very important problem” on par with radical Islam.

Gérald Darmanin, who is in charge of policing and internal security but also of “worship” and relations with faith communities, added that the problem is “obviously not of the same nature as that of Islamism that causes terrorist attacks and deaths.”

One day earlier, on February 1, Darmanin had declared on France Inter, the main state radio station, that he would no longer agree to talk “with people who refuse to write on a piece of paper that the law of the Republic is superior to the law of God.”

While government representatives have since backpedaled to some extent regarding the “very important” evangelical “problem,” telling journalists that “community-based excesses” represent “a very small minority” among Evangelicals, the statement concerning the law of the Republic and the law of God has not been retracted, and has indeed been made in recent years by other politicians in France.

The recent attacks on religion are linked to the discussion of a new law presented by the French government that aims to “strengthen observance of the principles of the Republic” in a context of growing Islamic presence in France. But instead of targeting Islamic radicalism (called “Islamism” in France), as well as demands made by Muslim communities regarding alimentary restrictions, the practice of sports by girls, special treatment in hospitals, cruel ritual slaughter of animals and so on, the government has extended its law to what it calls “separatism” in a general way so as not to be accused of a “racist” approach against Muslims. But the law explicitly condemns and criminalizes polygamy, forced marriage and the issuance of “virginity certificates,” which in France are only practiced in their communities.

During the last six years, when no less than 25 jihadist attacks in France killed a total of 263 people, the official story was that Islam could not be blamed for the bloodshed, being a religion of “peace and tolerance,” but that radicalized Muslims were betraying their faith by their criminal actions and intolerance. But with 17,000 identified “radicalized” Muslims in France, and a visible desire for non-integration into French society on the part of many mainstream Muslim immigrants, something clearly needed to be done – but without “stigmatizing” this population, as the New Speak goes.

As a result, the generally worded law, which was adopted in its first reading by the National Assembly on Wednesday and is now headed for the Senate, would apply to all “religious associations” in France that are subject to the law of separation of Church and State dating to the beginning of the 20th century.

This was a problem from the start of the political process of adopting the law of “Respect for the principles of the Republic.” By refusing to call by its name a religion that is by nature also a political system – and a totalitarian one, insofar as it regulates all aspects of social and personal life, not making a distinction between the temporal and the spiritual – it was clear that observant Catholics, Christians and Jews in France would risk finding themselves in opposition with one or the other of its provisions.

By eliminating God and religion from the public square, the 1905 separation law had already violently imposed state secularism on France, the “eldest daughter of the Church,” making all cathedrals and parish churches state property, which the Catholic Church is allowed to use. Over the years, the implementation of Church-State relations laws has allowed the return of Catholic congregations and Catholic schools, as well as tax exemptions for the faithful who give to religious associations, leading to a form of “appeased secularity.” However, the obligation to submit to the Republican ideology that has become increasingly atheistic and anti-religious in regard to the public square and education has always lingered in the background, and has become more aggressive in recent years.

The presence of an increasing number of Muslims in France (official statistics are not available because anti-discrimination laws prohibit setting up a public count of ethnic or religious groups, but Islam is now the second-most prevalent religion in France), together with terrorist attacks bearing Islamic signatures, has left France the prisoner of its secularist convictions and laws. The authorities invoke the principles of equality and non-discrimination in refusing to consider Catholicism, or at least Christianity, as having historical and cultural priority rights in the country. As a result, all measures must theoretically apply to everyone. For instance, banning the burqa in public places led to some problems for Catholic teaching nuns wanting to visit public museums with their class, although these occurrences are not common.

This is changing, though. While the first discussions of the “anti-separatism” law were underway last month, some members of the National Assembly suggested that all religious symbols must be banned in public for minors – meaning that a Catholic could not wear a cross pendant or a medal in the “same” way that a Muslim girl would be banned from wearing a head-covering. One left-wing deputy, Eric Coquerel, argued that the veil Catholic women wear when they get married is a symbol of their “submission” to their husband, which goes against Republican equality. Another, Florent Boudié, Relator-General of the law and a member of the presidential LREM party, suggested that being baptized at birth or receiving Holy Communion during childhood does not comply with the Republican principle of liberty.

So when Darmanin came up with his denunication of the “problem” of Evangelicals, his attack was not wholly unpredictable.

Marlène Schiappa, the minister for “Woman-Man Equality,” had already two weeks ago asserted that evangelical Protestants in France require “certificates of virginity” in the same way that some Muslims do. One of the aims of the law under discussion is precisely to punish those who require or establish such certificates in view of marriage, but accusing the evangelicals of the practice defies reality and common sense.

The draft law also sets stringent limits to foreign funding of religious groups, with beneficiaries being required to declare any substantial gift, subsidy or money transfer from abroad.

Evangelicals in France are worried that the law will in fact gravely infringe on religious liberties of all denominations.

“It’s definitely a serious situation,” said Clément Diedrichs, general director of CNEF, the National Council of Evangelicals in France, according to Christianity Today. “‘Laïcité’ (secularity) should protect the free organization of religious groups, but this law will allow the prevention of religious expression in society.”

“France will win nothing in its fight against Islamic separatism by equating Christianity and Islamism,” said Romain Choisnet, CNEF communication director. “The first has shaped this nation that the Republic has inherited. The second wants to replace it.”

Christianity Today also quoted the Free Will Baptists of France, who highlighted five aspects of the draft law: Churches will have to re-register every five years; officials will monitor sermons for hate speech; homeschooling will not be permitted for religious reasons; declarations of foreign funding will include missionary staff; religious leaders cannot be educated outside of France.

Darmanin’s cabinet may have attenuated the minister’s frontal attack on the Evangelicals, as noted above, but his declaration on the superiority of the law of the Republic to the law of God has not been retracted, and obviously counters the faith of all Christian believers and all those who over the centuries have accepted persecution and martyrdom rather than submitting to laws and requirements that contradict the will of God.

His own words -- “We cannot discuss with people who refuse to write on paper, that the law of the Republic is superior to the law of God” -- were a veiled reference to the “contract of Republican commitment” that all associations receiving public funding will have to sign under the provisions of the new law. Associations will promise “not to assert their own evasion of the laws of the Republic for any reason.”

This is a step toward, for example, prohibiting the proclamation of Christian morals regarding homosexuality or transgenderism that are increasingly protected by law, which currently under discussion aims to add “gender identity” to the categories already protected from “hate speech,” including race, religion, nationality, ethnicity, age, handicaps and so on, or the rejection of abortion as a crime.

Jacques Chirac was another prominent French politician to proclaim as the (successful) presidential candidate in 1995: “Yes to conscientious objection, no to a moral that would override civil law and that would justify placing oneself outside of the law. That is inconceivable in a secular democracy.” He said the words in reaction to Pope John Paul II’s encyclical, Evangelium vitae, that proclaimed, “No circumstance, no purpose, no law whatsoever can ever make licit an act which is intrinsically illicit, since it is contrary to the Law of God which is written in every human heart, knowable by reason itself, and proclaimed by the Church.”

Pope John Paul also quoted St. Thomas Aquinas: “Human law is law inasmuch as it is in conformity with right reason and thus derives from the eternal law. But when a law is contrary to reason, it is called an unjust law; but in this case it ceases to be a law and becomes instead an act of violence. (…) Every law made by man can be called a law insofar as it derives from the natural law. But if it is somehow opposed to the natural law, then it is not really a law but rather a corruption of the law.”

Of course, juridical positivism has corrupted the idea that the law must be in line with truth and not contradict God’s law, instead of divinizing the subjective will of the majority as the French Revolution did through its proclamation of (godless) human rights and its institution of the Republic.

What is happening right now in France seems mainly to be the logical and full drawing of conclusions of the revolutionary ideology that took over in 1789 and imposed itself through Terror (“La Terreur”). The “anti-separatist” law under discussion is also aiming to severely restrict homeschooling and independent schools in order to increase compliance with these “Republican principles” that reject the transcendency of the law of God. The “school of the Republic” has always been seen and presented as the main vector of that ideology, and religion – and mainly Catholicism – is seen as its enemy. The attack on Evangelicals, who often appear more consequential Christians than many Catholics, did not come by chance.

ONTARIO, February 18, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – An M.P. from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Party has blasted his own party’s response to COVID-19, a series of internal emails have shown, saying it’s “hard to have faith” in the response.

“Am I going to say something to my own government, to my own party, when I have health concerns of my constituents in mind? Damn right I am,” said Dr. Marcus Powlowski, Liberal M.P. for Thunder Bay according to a Blacklocks Reporter report from February 11.

The statement by Powlowski was made sometime last spring and was from a series of internal emails the Blacklocks Reporter say they obtained last year.

Powlowski, who is an emergency room doctor as well as a former consultant to the World Health Organization, made the comments to the House of Commons health committee, according to the Blacklock’s Reporter.

The emails show that Powlowski was frustrated with how the Trudeau government initially handled the COVID-19 crisis and that he was concerned over the slow procurement of medical supplies, masks, and ventilators.

“And you know what? No one in the party has yet given me much grief over that,” said Powlowski as reported by Blacklocks Reporter.

“Certainly, it would be a sad state of affairs if you can’t send emails to your colleagues and people within the party making suggestions. What was my criticism? My criticism is I think there’s a better way we can do things than the way we are.”

The emails show that Powlowski said that it is not in “anybody’s best interests” to stay silent and that his constituents are at the top of this mind.

“What was my criticism? My criticism is I think there’s a better way we can do things than the way we are.

“What are you supposed to do, not send such things to your own party? You’re supposed to stay quiet when you see things happen? I don’t think that is in anybody’s best interests. I will continue to look after the interests of my constituents.”

From June 7 and 8, Powlowski wrote to the Department of Public Works to show his concern over mask shortages.

“Is there no one mass producing N95 masks yet in Canada?” wrote Powlowski.

“What can the relevant ministries tell me to reassure the health care workers that we are doing everything we can to get those masks?”

While Powlowski’s criticism of the Trudeau government’s handling of the COVID-19 crisis was most likely not meant to be made public, recently, a group of former and current politicians from all levels of government was formed calling for the end of lockdowns.

The non-partisan group called “End the Lockdowns National Caucus,” says they are “unified in pursuit of the truth, and resolved to ensure there is open, honest, and public debate regarding the COVID-19 government response.

Founding members of the groups include Ontario MPP Randy Hillier, People’s Party of Canada leader Maxime Bernier, and now independent MP Derek Sloan, who was booted from the Conservative Party recently.

Ontario MPP Roman Baber, who was booted from the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party by Doug Ford for being critical of lockdowns, has also been vocal regarding lockdowns.

Many doctors in Canada have spoken out against the negative consequences of government-imposed COVID-19 lockdowns and stay-at-home orders.

In late December, Dr. Gil Nimni, a York, Ontario emergency room (ER) doctor said that lockdownswhich send people into “financial ruin” are not the answer to the COVID-19 crisis, and that he shakes his head at his co-workers who go on social media “ranting” about a full emergency room.

In October, Dr. Stephen Malthouse, a Canadian doctor in British Columbia with over 40 years of experience in family medicine, made headlines for writing to his province’s top doctor to blast the government’s COVID-19 lockdown policy.

In January, Malthouse was part of 13 doctors who wrote to Ford to blast lockdowns and his booting of Baber.

Malthouse told LifeSiteNews recently that there are “many” doctors in Canada who are of the opinion that lockdowns are harmful, but are scared to speak out.

“Many doctors in our network across the country feel the same as the signatories, but are at risk of losing their licenses if they speak out against public health policies,” Malthouse told LifeSiteNews.

“We could no longer keep silent as the non-COVID lives lost by lockdown policies exceeded those killed by the virus. There is a strong political incentive for preventing COVID deaths at any cost: with the media covering COVID horror stories 24/7, that is all that fearful voters are focused on. If we look at the lost-years, deaths, poverty and suffering from lockdowns (and the failure to protect our vulnerable population as well), then it is obvious that lockdowns have caused only destruction, without any benefit, in every country where they have been implemented. Lockdowns have never been shown to reduce the spread of COVID.”

Canada has reported around 20,000 deaths said to have been ascribed to COVID-19. With a population of around 37 million, that means around .05 percent or five one-hundredths of one percent, of the nation's people, have been killed by the virus.

In Canada, most deaths attributed to the COVID-19 virus, around 80 percent according to official government statistics, are in those of advanced age in long-term-care homes.

Psychotherapist appeals to European Court after UK university cancels his PhD on transgender regret

STRASBOURG, France, February 18, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — A researcher whose university cancelled his study of sex-change regret has taken his case to the European Court of Human Rights.

James Caspian, 61, a psychotherapist who had counselled transgender people for a decade, was prevented by England’s Bath Spa University from pursuing a project it had initially accepted: a study entitled “An examination of the experience of people who have undergone Reverse Gender Reassignment Surgery.” A former teacher training college, Bath Spa was not permitted to grant university degrees until 1992.

Supported by the Christian Legal Centre, Caspian first challenged the Bath Spa University’s decision in the British courts. Now he is taking his case to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).

“I have been faced with no alternative but to take this case to Europe,” Caspian stated in a press release.

“Too much is at stake for academic freedom and for hundreds, if not thousands, of young people who are saying that they are being harmed and often silenced by a rigid view that has become a kind of transgender ideology and permits no discussion,” he continued.

“My preliminary research had revealed a growing controversial schism in transgender politics and inpatient experiences which greatly concerned me and confirmed the need for this research. Some of the people I spoke to said they were too traumatised to speak about their experiences, which proved it was even more important to research the issue, not less. I was astonished therefore that a university could censor a research project on the grounds that what people ‘might’ post on social media may be detrimental to the reputation of the university.”

The psychotherapistfirst noticed that his patients were getting younger and that there was a “surge” in the numbers of female patients in 2013. According to Christian Concern, there was also a troubling rise in the number of patients who regretted their sex-change surgeries and wanted to “detransition.”

Wanting to study this phenomenon, Caspian signed up for a part-time Masters course at Bath Spa University in 2014.

Originally, Bath Spa University’s Ethics Sub-Committee green-lighted Caspian’s project, saying, “This application and accompanying research proposal has addressed the necessary ethical protocols. It has taken particular care to acknowledge the potential sensitivity of the research focus and appears to have the necessary protocols in place should any participants experience psychological harm from the interview process.”

But during the course of his research, Caspian learned from World Professional Association of Transgender Health (WPATH) internet forums that discussions on “detransitioning” were often censored. He decided to change his project to include people who had “detransitioned” without reversing their surgery.

When Caspian informed his academic supervisor of the change and of potential social media abuse from transgender activists, he was told he would need to re-submit his proposal to the Ethics Sub-Committee. In addition, he was asked to include a note about the possible criticism.

That proved to be bad advice. In November 2016, Caspian was told that his revised project had been rejected. His appeal of the decision was in vain: the sub-committee had been frightened by the spectre of bad publicity.

“Engaging in a potentially ‘politically incorrect’ piece of research carries a risk to the University,” it told the student.

“Attacks on social media may not be confined to the researcher but may involve the University. This needs to be assessed by the University Ethics Committee.”

The university’s Ethics Sub-Committee judged that “[t]he posting of unpleasant material on blogs or social media may be detrimental to the reputation of the University.”

“This was further discussed with the Dean of the Institute of Education and the ethical approval form has been declined. This is a complex project and the risks are too great to the University and the researcher. Working on a less ethically complex piece of research to complete the Masters would be more appropriate.”

Caspian subsequently requested a refund from the institution, and that too was denied. His attempts to bring the matter to British courts were futile. Concerned not only for academic freedom but for the damage being done to patients, Caspian is determined not to give up his fight.

“If a university – a place for the exchange of ideas, discussion, dissent, questioning, research and critical thinking – is unable to tolerate the risk of criticism, where then are left the most basic tenets of academic and intellectual freedom of enquiry?” Caspian asked.

“The implications for a democratic society of the suppression of information and discussion are deeply worrying,” he continued.

“I have felt morally obliged to speak out because people are telling me that they’ve been harmed, and my profession should do no harm.”

Roger Kiska of the Christian Legal Centre told LifeSiteNews that Caspian’s case is both “an important challenge” to cancel culture and “the canary in the coal mine” of academic freedom in the United Kingdom.

“James Caspian’s case, now with the highest human rights court in Europe, is an important challenge to the politically correct cancel culture we live in today," Kiska said via email.

“James had 10 years clinical background in front line work with counselling related to gender reassignment. His research was inspired by real life experience and necessity, as research in the area of detransitioning and post-gender reassignment remorse is desperately needed,” Kiska added.

“The very fact that his research proposal was rejected because of politically correct considerations and the university’s fear of negative press from transgender activists with a vested interest in seeing his work fail speaks for itself as to the state of academic freedom in the U.K. This case represents the canary in the coal mine for U.K. academic freedom.”

The Christian Legal Centre was also active in the battles to save Alfie Evans and the Polish national known as “RS” from de facto euthanasia in British hospitals. To support their work, please see the Lifefunder donation page here

US House will vote on pro-abortion, pro-LGBT Equality Act next week

WASHINGTON, D.C., February 18, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – The U.S. House of Representatives is scheduled to vote next week on radical pro-abortion and pro-LGBT Equality Act.

The act, which was passed by the Democrat-controlled House in 2019, but blocked by the Senate then controlled by Republicans, would amend the 1964 Civil Rights Act to include “sex,” “sexual orientation,” and “gender identity” among expressly recognized “non-discrimination” categories in “public accommodations,” which would also be expanded to include many additional types of establishments including recreation, shopping, online retailers, healthcare services, and more.

It would also force anyone employing 15 or more people to recognize people’s claimed “gender identity,” forbid employers from “discriminating” based on “sexual orientation” or “gender identity,” and mandate transgender “access” to opposite-sex restrooms, locker rooms, and dressing rooms.

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) released a document this month which lays out the “adverse impact on existing provisions that prohibit the use of federal funds for abortion” which could be brought about by the implementation of the Equality Act. If successful, the bill could use coercion to force taxpayers to fund abortion and even make doctors, nurses, and faith-based hospitals perform abortions.

In accordance with President Joe Biden’s firm promise that the act’s passage would be “the first thing I ask to be done,” he has prioritized the bill for consideration by the Democrat-controlled Congress. Given the bill’s prior success in the House, it is expected to pass.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) announced that the act would make its way to Congress next week in a letter to his colleagues: “Other legislation coming to the floor next week are two bills that passed through the House last Congress: a wilderness package and the Equality Act, which will end legal discrimination against LGBTQ Americans.”

Hoyer told the Washington Blade that the act requires immediate attention: “I was proud to bring the Equality Act to the House floor last Congress, and pleased to see this critical legislation pass with strong support,” he said. “It is imperative that we move this priority swiftly to advance the cause of equality and ensure our laws recognize the equal rights and dignity of LGBTQ people in our country.”

Over a year after the Equality Act was passed by the House, Senate Republicans shot the bill down in June, with Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) remarking that, contrary to the suggestion of the bill’s name, the so-called Equality Act does not take care “to ensure that religious employers will be treated fairly.”

“We need to be mindful of the need of a religious employer to maintain its doctrine and teachings, not only in the hiring of its ministers,” said Lee, but also for the sake of “others who look to that religious institution’s teachings, in the way they live their lives, in their beliefs, and in their willingness to teach those things to others.”

“This legislation doesn’t do that,” Lee declared at the time.

Speaking at a press conference in 2019 on the move to pass the Equality Act, President of Family Research Council Tony Perkins blasted the bill as “unfair on many fronts,” dubbing it the “Inequality Act.”

“It is an attack on parental rights, women’s sports, but to the millions of people of faith in this country, it is an egregious attack on the freedom to believe and live according to those beliefs,” he said. “It would position the government to lord over churches and other faith-based institutions, dictating potentially who they hire, how their facilities are used, and even punishing them for not falling in step with a view of human sexuality that directly contradicts orthodox biblical teaching.”

“No institution or person of faith be it school, church, synagogues, mosque, business, or non-profit will escape the Orwellian reach of the Equality Act. The Religious Freedom Restoration Act will be committed to the ‘memory hole,’ and we will then experience a catastrophic loss of religious freedom in America, and, as a result, every American, those who believe and do not believe, will suffer the consequences,” he concluded.

The act could face a similar backlash in the Senate this time around as it did in 2020, with Senate Republicans coming out in opposition to the bill. A spokesperson for Mitt Romney (R-UT) told the Blade that “Senator Romney believes that strong religious liberty protections are essential to any legislation on this issue, and since those provisions are absent from this particular bill, he is not able to support it.”

There may even be some backlash from within the Democrat Party, as last year Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) declared his negative view on the act in a statement saying he was then “not convinced that the Equality Act as written provides sufficient guidance to the local officials who will be responsible for implementing it.”

Currently, the Senate is split 50-50 Democrat and Republican. In the event of a tie-breaker vote, Vice President Kamala Harris will cast the deciding vote.

LifeSiteNews spoke with Charlene Cothran, previously the publisher of the internationally distributed homosexual rights magazine Venus. Cothran, an African American, practiced a homosexual lifestyle for some time herself. She said that the Equality Act “has very little to do with equality,” and in no uncertain words criticized the bill as “a purely evil act of deception.”

“The bill attempts to turn biological and biblical truth into a Grand Lie and their Grand Lie into law,” she stated, adding that she is “deeply offended that homosexuals and so-called trans activists have fully hijacked the African American Civil Rights movement for selfish, dangerous, deceptive purposes.”

“Sadly, the so-called Equality Act will only guarantee that parents, children, teachers and churches are deceived into believing that homosexual and trans ‘studies’ are scientifically accurate and respected by medical professionals. All of their so-called ‘studies’ are politically motivated.”

“So-called transgender activists need to stop lying to Americans and to the world,” Cothran continued. “They are racist at their core. They push power-hungry Black activists out front and pay them to do their filthy work.”

“Plainly stated, their goal is to become God,” she summarized. “They seek with this evil bill to eliminate God-ordained and God-assigned gender norms and language, which they know is impossible. Biden’s number one agenda is this evil act. We warned our Black families and churches about this day. Now with the Dem’s trifecta control of White House, House and Senate, it may sadly be too late.”

Bill Gates says climate change is ‘all-out effort,’ like ‘world war … against greenhouse gases’

Alluding to a ‘next pandemic’ in ‘five to ten years,’ Gates said that at that time, ‘we will solve all those problems’ with the recently introduced mRNA vaccine technology.

February 18, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – Billionaire population-control advocate Bill Gates, in a video interview with Anderson Cooper of 60 Minutes, revealed the vast scale of his plans to redraw the entire “physical economy” of the world in the wake of the coronavirus crisis, and as part of his vision to make the way humans live dependent on “green technologies.”

In April last year, Gates announced that he was shifting the “total attention” of his charity, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, towards addressing issues arising from COVID. “Even our non-health related work, like higher education and K-12 [schools], is completely switched around to look at how you facilitate online learning,” he had said.

But now, a year later, his focus is almost entirely on climate change, a topic on which he agrees “with the overwhelming majority of scientists who warn of a looming climate disaster,” according to Cooper.

Asked if climate change is “the toughest challenge humanity has ever faced,” Gates replied, “Absolutely.” He added, “It’s way greater than the pandemic. And it needs a level of cooperation that would be unprecedented.”

Gates maintains that the next 30 years are going to be crucial in pushing a collective effort between all industries, from technology and medicine, to manufacturing, agriculture, and transportation, and many more in between, to “innovate” for the future of the planet.

As an example, Gates referenced the burger restaurant he and Cooper were sitting in, advising that “this cement would be made in a different way. The steel in the building would be different. You know, the meat in the burger is a big deal. These — you know, all this plastic and paper — potatoes … All the tractors, the transport.”

Asked if he really meant that the whole supply chain must be changed, down to the trucks that deliver the food, and the bricks and mortar that make up the buildings, Gates responded, “Hey, when you’re going to zero [carbon emissions], you don’t get to skip anything.”

The Microsoft billionaire fortified his position, warning that if the world does not adhere to his plans within the next 100 years, “[i]t’s way too late. Then the natural ecosystems will have failed. The instability, you know, the migration.”

He alleged that “those things will — will get really, really bad well before the end of the century.” He did not offer any evidence to support this claim. He did, however, clarify what was meant by “migration.”

In the wake of the Arab Spring, hundreds of thousands of migrants have crossed from northern Africa into Europe every year for the last decade. Using this as a yard-stick, Gates proclaimed that the “Syrian War was a 20th of what climate migration will look like.”

And in relation to the virus, “the deaths per year are way, ten times greater than what we’ve experienced in the pandemic.”

Gates’ new book

Gates lays out the ways in which he believes the world can avoid such a fate in his new book, How to Avoid a Climate Disaster, where he claims that principally, “[t]o avoid a climate disaster, we have to get to zero greenhouse gas emissions.”

“The case for zero was, and is, rock solid,” Gates wrote. “Setting a goal to only reduce our emissions — but not eliminate them — won’t do it. The only sensible goal is zero.”

“The bad news,” he continued, is that “[g]etting to zero will be really hard.” But with “the passion of a growing global movement” and “big goals for solving the problem,” this book provides “a concrete plan” for doing so. Gates supports President Joe Biden’s plan to re-join the expensive anti-family Paris Climate Agreement, asking the government to up its green energy spending to $35 billion per year.

Gates recognized that the government has already been spending money on initiatives like electric cars, but accused them of picking at “low-hanging fruit.” The “hard parts,” in his view, include “steel and cement. Those pieces we’ve hardly started to work on.”

The tech mogul told Cooper that steel and concrete manufacturing “accounts for 16% of all carbon dioxide emissions. And the demand is only growing.”

“The world will add an estimated two and a half trillion square feet of buildings by 2060,” he predicted. Without any further context, Gates made the comparison that this amounts to “putting up another New York City every month for the next 40 years.”

Gates’ own carbon footprint

Despite his complaints, Gates has recently increased his investment in a private jet company, Signature Aviation, in a $4.7 billion deal. While air travel in general is the biggest producer of carbon emissions per passenger, the Independent revealed that private air travel “is more than eight times less efficient if calculated per passenger” than flying commercial, according to calculations that can vary widely depending on specific factors.

Cooper gave Gates an opportunity to “answer” those people who criticize him as a hypocrite for his frequent use of air travel.

Gates admitted, “Yeah. I probably have one of the highest greenhouse gas footprints of anyone on the planet.”

“Now, I’m spending quite a bit to buy aviation fuel that was made with plants,” he justified himself. “You know, I switched to an electric car. I use solar panels. I’m paying a company that actually at a very high price can pull a bit of carbon out of the air and stick it underground. And so I’m offsetting my personal emissions.”

He noted the enormous costs associated with carbon capture, boasting that he pays “$400 a ton. It’s like $7 million” per year, making “green” air travel a privilege of the super-rich.

Cooper noted that Gates has spent $2 billion of his own money on “green energy” technologies already, and “plans to spend several billion more.”

Relying on green energy has proved more than troublesome for the millions of Texas residents without power, heat, and food, following a rare winter storm wreaking havoc on the state, with more than twenty people reported to have died so far as a result.

Wind power, a “green renewable” energy source often touted as a fossil-fuel replacement by Gates and friends, now accounts for the second largest proportion of all energy production in Texas, behind natural gas. Since the freezing storm hit, however, “nearly half of Texas’ installed wind power generation capacity has been offline because of frozen wind turbines in West Texas,” the Austin American-Statesman reported.

Residents were asked by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), which manages around 90% of Texas’s electrical capacity, to reduce their usage, in order to attenuate demand on the grid.

Although the turbines froze over on Sunday, some 2,700,000 customers were still without power by Thursday afternoon.

The investments of Bill Gates

Gates’ billions are invested very broadly, with stakes in nuclear energy, carbon capture, and even in the food industry, backing two meat substitute firms.

Cows allegedly account for 4% of greenhouse gases, which is why Gates claimed he invested in plant-based meat substitute companies Impossible Foods, the mission of which is to make meat obsolete in 15 years, and Beyond Meat.

“I wish all this funding of these companies wasn’t necessary at all,” Gates said. “Without innovation, we will not solve climate change. We won’t even come close.”

“[R]aising animals can take a big toll on the environment,” Gates wrote in a blog entitled “Is there enough meat for everyone?”

“One solution would be to ask the biggest carnivores (Americans and others) to cut back, by as much as half,” he said.

Lab findings have shown that Impossible Foods’ imitation meat contains 11 times more glyphosate, the toxic herbicide used in RoundUp, than its closest competitor, reported Children’s Health Defense.

Meatless alternatives are a key part of a sustainable food future from the perspective of not only Bill Gates, but the EAT Foundation, which describes itself as a “Davos for food” — Davos being the location of the yearly World Economic Forum meeting.

“According to Frederic Leroy, a food science and biotechnology professor at the University of Brussels, EAT network interacts closely with some of the biggest imitation meat companies, including Impossible Foods,” reported Children’s Health Defense.

“They frame it as healthy and sustainable, which of course it is neither,” Leroy told The Defender.

At the same time as increasing his stake in the fake meat industry, Gates has been amassing hundreds of thousands of acres of American farmland, now owning 242,000 acres, making him the leading owner of private farmland in the U.S.

Public health

Though Gates claims that his main focus now is on the “climate crisis,” he hasn’t taken his eye off of COVID-19.

At a 2015 TED Talk, Gates predicted that “[i]f anything kills over 10 million people in the

next few decades, it’s most likely to be a highly infectious virus rather than a war. Not missiles, but microbes.” He later added, “We’re not ready for the next epidemic.”

In a separate segment of his interview with Cooper, where they discussed COVID and the response of the American government to it, Gates lauded the government for facilitating vaccine production “within 12 months,” even though he admitted they “aren’t perfect.”

Speaking to CBS News on Tuesday, Gates suggested that, with the rise of variants in the coronavirus, a third dose of the vaccine may be required to inoculate some people: “The discussion now is do we just need to get a super high coverage of the current vaccine, or do we need a third dose that’s just the same, or do we need a modified vaccine?”

Gates did not deny the possibility of establishing a framework like that of the current flu vaccine regimen, which necessitates annual booster shots.

Alluding to a “next pandemic” in “five to ten years,” Gates told Cooper that, at that time, “we will solve all those problems” with the recently introduced mRNA vaccine technology.

Cooper pushed Gates to confirm whether there will be another “pandemic,” to which Gates responded, “Absolutely.”

Explaining how he can be so sure, Gates said, “Well, you roll the dice every year, eventually the dice don’t favor you.”

He went on to challenge the so-called “science deniers” who question the underpinnings of the green movement, as well as the science that backs government lockdown measures, telling Cooper that people “have to make the truth more interesting than the over-simplistic conspiracy theories.”

According to Gates, there is a “need to slow down” what he calls “the crazy stuff.”

“There is a need for innovation to think about how you draw these lines and particularly when you’re getting out exposing to strangers something that might draw them into a series of falsehoods.”

Given that his regime requires “every aspect of our daily life” to change, Gates admitted that “[i]t can seem overwhelming.” But, said Gates, “If people think it’s impossible, they’re wrong. It’s possible.”

Biden excuses China’s Uighur genocide as the result of different cultural ‘norms’

February 18, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — President Biden suggested that China’s ongoing genocide of ethnic minorities is simply the result of Chinese cultural “norms.” He made his comments during an appearance at CNN’s “Presidential Town Hall with Joe Biden” on Tuesday.

“If you know anything about Chinese history, it has always been — the time when China has been victimized by the outer world is when they haven’t been unified at home,” he said when asked whether he discussed China’s human rights violations against the Uighur ethnic group in a call with Chinese dictator Xi Jinping.

“So the central — well, vastly overstated — the central principle of Xi Jinping is that there must be a united, tightly controlled China. And he uses his rationale for the things he does based on that,” Biden added.

“I point out to him no American president can be sustained as a president if he doesn’t reflect the values of the United States,” Biden said. “So, the idea that I’m not going to speak out against what he’s doing in Hong Kong, what he’s doing with the Uighurs in [the] Western Mountains of China, and Taiwan … he gets it,” he continued.

“[C]ulturally, there are different norms in each country, and their leaders are expected to follow,” Biden said. He then implied that China would face “repercussions” for human rights violations through international institutions, although White House Press Secretary Psaki has walked back that assertion.

The town hall comments came less than a week after Beijing blacklisted BBC News for exposing systemic torture and sexual abuse of Uighur prisoners detained in China’s Xinjiang province. Biden, who ran on a “tough-on-China” platform in 2020, had praised Xi Jinping as “very bright” and “very tough” the previous day.

According to media reports and survivor testimonies, the Chinese government has interned up to three million Uighurs across hundreds of detention camps, killing some prisoners and forcing abortions on others. Hundreds of thousands of Uighur women may have been subjected to involuntary sterilization during the years-long ethnic cleansing campaign in Xinjiang.

China’s destruction of the Uighur community had been met with forceful condemnation by the Trump administration, including with a wave of sanctions last summer and a designation of “genocide” in January.

Joe Biden’s dismissal of the Xinjiang genocide on Tuesday is not his first bow to systematic Chinese human rights abuses. In 2011, during an official visit to China, then-Vice President Biden said that he “fully understands” and was not “second-guessing” the country’s one-child policy, which has been enforced with countless coerced abortions and infanticides.

At least one business partner of Biden’s son Hunter also testified last year that Joe Biden has been financially involved in multi-million dollar business dealings that Hunter Biden pursued with Chinese state-controlled companies.

Hunter Biden reportedly still holds a stake in a firm that he co-founded, which closed more than $1 billion worth of deals with Beijing-backed entities during Joe Biden’s vice presidency, though Joe Biden had promised in 2019 that his family would divest from all foreign ties.

COLUMBIA, February 18, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – With an impending signature from Republican Gov. Henry McMaster, South Carolina becomes the latest state to ban abortion once a fetal heartbeat can be detected, though the new law already faces a lawsuit by Planned Parenthood.

The bill requires anyone committing an abortion to first perform an ultrasound to test for a fetal heartbeat. If one is found, aborting the baby anyway would be a felony for which an abortionist could lose his medical license. It contains exceptions for rape, incest, medical threat to the mother, or fetal anomalies deemed “incompatible with life.”

The state Senate passed the bill 30-13 and the House 79-35, and McMaster is scheduled to sign it into law today in a ceremony at the state house:

Planned Parenthood quickly moved to file a lawsuit against the law, calling it “in flagrant violation of nearly five decades of settled Supreme Court precedent.”

Heartbeat laws, which ban abortion well before the Supreme Court’s “fetal viability” threshold, are generally not expected to ban abortion in the near term, but instead are enacted in hopes of provoking a legal battle that would hopefully reach the nation’s highest court and instigate a review of Roe v. Wade, thereby potentially overturning decades of pro-abortion legal precedent and freeing the states to set their own abortion laws.

Such a case would present the biggest test yet of former President Donald Trump’s three appointees to the Supreme Court, and whether they will help comprise the majority needed to finally overturn Roe.

South Carolina joins Georgia, Missouri, Louisiana, Tennessee, Ohio, Alabama, Arkansas, Iowa, Kentucky, Mississippi, and North Dakota in enacting laws to limit abortions as early as a fetal heartbeat can be detected.

Texas power outage is a warning about ‘green energy’ reliance and globalist control

Texas wind farms’ can generate up to 25,100 megawatts of energy, but turbines making up 12,000 megawatts of that amount had frozen over by Sunday.

February 18, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – The current winter storm in Texas, which has left millions without power, heat, and food, has led to questions about the reliability of so called “green energy” and serves as an example of the danger posed by the green agenda in pursuit of the Great Reset.

The storm brought temperatures dipping well below zero degrees Fahrenheit and has left millions of people without power. Over 20 people have died in various states affected by the storm. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), which manages around 90% of Texas’s electrical capacity, initially asked residents to “reduce their electricity use,” as the system was suffering from “higher-than-normal generation outages due to frozen wind turbines and limited natural gas supplies available to generating units.”

Due to the extreme winter storm, “nearly half of Texas’ installed wind power generation capacity has been offline because of frozen wind turbines in West Texas,” the Austin American-Statesman reported. The wind farms can generate up to 25,100 megawatts of energy, but turbines making up 12,000 megawatts of that amount had frozen over by Sunday.

Wind power, a favored tool of those proposing a “green” agenda, is now the second largest source of energy in the Texas power grid, second only to natural gas.

Writing on Sunday, the Statesman predicted that the peak electricity demand anticipated for the next two days would possibly be more than Texas’s “summertime record for peak demand of 74,820 megawatts.”

As demand increased, rotating blackouts were imposed on residents, as the energy grid became unable to cope with the demand. The Epoch Times noted that 4,113,701 customers tracked by PowerOutage.us had power outages at 2:05 a.m. EST on Tuesday. By the afternoon of January 17, over 2,700,000 customers were still without power, and at time of writing, the number is just shy of 500,000.

Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller has even issued a “red alert” regarding “agriculture and … food supply chain,” which have come as a result of the blackouts. “We’re looking at a food supply chain problem like we’ve never seen before,” Miller stated.

Speaking on Fox News to Sean Hannity, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) said the unprecedented scenes in Texas should serve as a warning for relying on green energy. “So this shows how the green new deal would be a deadly deal for the United States of America. Texas is blessed with multiple sources of energy, such as natural gas and oil, and nuclear as well as solar and wind … when our solar got shut down, and they were collectively more than 10% of our power grid, and that thrust Texas into a situation where it was lacking power on a statewide basis.”

“It just shows that fossil fuel is necessary for the state of Texas as well as for other states,” Abbott stated, although only a week before he had accepted an award for commitment to wind energy development.

While the loss of power cannot be attributed solely to problems caused by the “green” energy producers, the event has raised questions about the use of such sources of power. Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) explained, “A mix of over-subsidized wind energy and under-investment in gas power means we didn’t have enough base load energy for a massive spike in demand.”

He stated that the lack of natural gas was due to an inability to transport it in the cold, as well as “scheduled maintenance,” pointing to “years of federal subsidies for wind [which] has caused an over reliance [sic] on wind and an under-investment in new gas and nuclear [power] plants.”

In an interview given to the Epoch Times, former state representative and director of Life: Powered Jason Isaac also mentioned how “virtue signalling” had been given priority, leading to the promotion of “unreliables,” which “produce electricity when the wind is blowing or the sun is shining. And then they freeze up at really cold temperatures.”

Such warnings were supported by Fox News host Tucker Carlson who delivered a stinging monologue on February 15, pointing to the historical decisions in favor of green policies: “Rather than celebrate and benefit from their state’s vast natural resources, politicians took the fashionable route and became recklessly reliant on so-called alternative energy, meaning windmills.”

“That happens every time when the power goes out; even advanced societies become primitive and dangerous, and people die,” Carlson added.

Republican Congresswoman Lauren Boebert weighed in on the issue, writing, “It takes a special kind of stupidity to run out of energy in Texas.” Even Forbes has expressed some concerns about the use of “green” or renewable energy, saying “it isn’t always there when the going gets tough.”

Is Texas an example of the globalist green agenda goal?

Despite such warnings about “green energy,” globalists and liberal elites continue to push the imposition of a green agenda. Rep. Alexandria Ocasia-Cortez (D-NY), for instance, used the opportunity to call for a great reliance on green energy: “The infrastructure failures in Texas are quite literally what happens when you *don’t* pursue a Green New Deal.”

In his monologue, however, Carlson pointed to dealings suggesting more than infrastructural incompetence: “Running out of energy in Texas is like starving to death at the grocery store: You can only do it on purpose, and Texas did.”

Showing a clip of Joe Biden discussing his climate-related executive orders, Carlson pointed to the terminology employed by the politician: “‘Climate crisis,’ ‘existential threat,’ ‘ambitious plan.’ You hear those phrases a lot and you’ll notice that they are all suspiciously non-precise. So what do they mean for you? Will they mean higher energy prices?”

Carlson continued: “For starters, gas prices are already up, in case you haven’t noticed. Electricity will follow. Higher costs hurt the weakest, inflation always does, but it’s worse than that. Green energy inevitably means blackouts. Someday that may change as technology progresses, but as of right now and given the current state of technology, green energy means a less reliable power grid. It means failures like the ones we’re seeing now in Texas.”

Such reliance upon green energy, as promoted tirelessly by politicians on the Left, is a key part of the World Economic Forum’s Great Reset agenda. Klaus Schwab, the founder of the organization and a pioneer of the Great Reset, builds the entire concept on a green financial agenda, mentioning the “withdrawal of fossil-fuel subsidies,” new financial system based on “investments” which advance “equality and sustainability,” and the building of a “‘green’ urban infrastructure.”

Businesses would be provided with so-called “incentives” to improve their operation in line with “environmental, social, and governance metrics.” In fact, in his recent book entitled COVID-19: The Great Reset, Schwab described a scenario in which a coal-fired plant was shut down through the joint efforts of “green activists” and “investors” depriving the plant of capital until in conformed to the green agenda.

LifeSite recently reported on how banks, in order to ensure the green agenda and the Great Reset, look set to become the enforcers of the green agenda, effectively forcing businesses and individuals into aligning with the various “green” policies.

The purpose of proposing enforced adherence to far-left environmental policies, despite the obvious shortcomings of such policies as seen in Texas, is raising questions. However, LifeSite’s co-founder and president Steve Jalsevac explained it thus: “I suspect, one of the main reasons for the Great Reset emphasis on solar and wind is that electricity dependence makes it much easier for controlling the masses. Fossil fuels allow for the greatest amount of free movement. It cannot be centrally controlled.”

“Those who do not conform to the Reset can be threatened with having their power cut off,” Jalsevac added. “They want electric only, driverless vehicles so that you will only go when and where they permit you to go. They don’t want humans in animal and great park areas. Almost everyone does not realize the enormous freedoms and prosperity that fossil fuels have been providing the people of the world. The new ‘Green energies’ are not remotely the same.”

“The challenge has been to greatly lessen the pollution caused by fossil fuels, and there have been enormous leaps in success on that, including great improvements in how oil is harvested and refined. It has been God’s gift to mankind. Electricity dependence is ideal for tyrants,” he noted.

New report shows major increase in euthanasia deaths across Belgium and Netherlands

The number of people killed by euthanasia and assisted suicide has surged in Belgium from just 24 in 2002 to 2,656 in 2019

February 18, 2021 (Society for the Protection of Unborn Children) — There has been a rapid rise in deaths caused by euthanasia across Belgium and the Netherlands, according to a Vienna-based bioethics institute. Antonia Tully, of the SPUC Lives Worth Living Campaign, said: “It is sad that people see death as the solution to their problems. But this is how people start to think once euthanasia has been legalized.”

The Vienna-based Institute for Medical Anthropology and Bioethics (IMABE) reported this month that the number of people killed by euthanasia and assisted suicide had surged in Belgium from just 24 in 2002 to 2,656 in 2019.

During the same period, the number of people killed by assisted suicide in the Netherlands increased from 1,882 to 6,361.

SPUC’s Antonia Tully said: “This is devastating data and each death is a tragedy. We know that in countries where assisted suicide is legal, many who ‘choose’ to die report that they want to avoid becoming a burden on family and carers. Over a third of Canadians who were killed by assisted suicide in 2019 claimed that they feared being a burden on family, friends and caregivers if they continued to live.

“In Washington State in 2018, 51% of people who were killed by assisted suicide said that being a burden on family, friends and caregivers was a reason to end their lives.”

Creeping culture of death

In 2002, the Netherlands and Belgium passed euthanasia and assisted suicide laws.

Both countries have some of the world’s most lax assisted suicide laws. Assisted suicide in Belgium is not restricted to the terminally ill or to adults, as children and people with psychiatric conditions are also eligible to be killed there.

SPUC’s Antonia Tully added: “There is a creeping culture of death spreading around the globe as euthanasia laws are passed in one country after another. During 2020, New Zealand, Spain and Portugal all passed bills to allow assisted suicide. Here in Britain, we must resist all attempts to normalize this dangerous practice and instead promote a society where each human life is valued and respected.”

Bill Gates: Third shot may be needed to combat coronavirus variants

Gates told CBS News we might need a third shot of a currently available vaccine, or a “modified” vaccine as the virus mutates, but CHD’s RFK, Jr. asks why we haven’t focused instead on non-vaccine strategies, including therapeutic drugs.

February 18, 2021 (Children’s Health Defense) — With more than 40 million Americans having received at least the first dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, a third dose may be needed to prevent the spread of new variants of the disease, Bill Gates told CBS News Tuesday.

Gates’ comments come amid growing concern that the current vaccines are not effective against the more contagious Brazilian and South African variants.

Pfizer and Moderna have stated that their vaccines are 95% and 99% effective, respectively, against the initial strain of COVID. However, some scientists have questioned those statements. Additionally, the World Health Organization and vaccine companies have conceded that the vaccines do not prevent people from being infected with COVID or from transmitting it, but are only effective at reducing symptoms.

Gates told CBS Evening News:

“The discussion now is do we just need to get a super high coverage of the current vaccine, or do we need a third dose that’s just the same, or do we need a modified vaccine?”

U.S. vaccine companies are looking at making modifications, which Gates refers to as “tuning.”

People who have had two shots may need to get a third shot and people who have not yet been vaccinated would need the modified vaccine, explained Gates. When asked whether the coronavirus vaccine would be similar to the flu vaccine, which requires yearly boosters, Gates couldn’t rule that out. Until the virus is eradicated from all humans, Gates said, additional shots may be needed in the future.

AstraZeneca in particular has a challenge with the variant,” Gates explained. “And the other two, Johnson & Johnson and Novavax, are slightly less effective, but still effective enough that we absolutely should get them out as fast as we can while we study this idea of tuning the vaccine.”

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is funding the studies being conducted in Brazil and South Africa, CBS News said. The foundation has also invested in the AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson and the Novavax vaccines, which are being tested against new variants. Once the AstraZeneca vaccine is approved, the Global Alliance for Vaccine Initiative or GAVI, founded by Gates, will distribute it globally.

“Gates continues to move the goalposts,” said Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., chairman and chief legal counsel of Children’s Health Defense. “Meanwhile the strategies he and others have promoted are obliterating the global economy, demolishing the middle class, making the rich richer and censoring vaccine safety advocates, like me.”

Kennedy said that the exclusive focus on vaccines has prevented the kind of progress required to actually address and recover from the pandemic:

“From the pandemic’s outset, clear-headed people familiar with the challenges inherent in the vaccine model have understood that the path out of crisis would require multiple steps. Those steps would need to include the development and/or identification of therapeutic drugs, the sharing of information among doctors to hone improved treatment models that reduce infection mortality rates below those for flu, and the kind of broad-spectrum long-term herd immunity that protects against mutant strains and that only derives from natural infection.”

Instead, Gates and vaccine makers are proposing a lifetime of boosters, supporting insufficient testing to determine safety and failing to address the inadequate monitoring of vaccine injuries, Kennedy said.

Utah parents push back against the transgender agenda - and win

Utah parents protested when a story of a girl wanting to be seen as a boy was read to a class of third-graders

MURRAY, Utah, February 18, 2021 (Family Research Council) — A group of Utah parents have prompted a review of an “equity book program” in their local school district after a teacher read a book favorable to transgenderism to a class of third-graders. The book, “Call Me Max”, written by transgender-identified author Kyle Lukoff, follows the story of a girl wanting to be seen as a boy.

The book is a transparent attempt to make children comfortable with the idea of changing gender. According to the book's description, it is “a sweet and age-appropriate introduction to what it means to be transgender.”

Some parents, however, saw the book as an attempt to indoctrinate their children into a false view of gender and sex.

To their credit, they did something — and their actions have made a difference.

According to a report by KTLA, the Murray School District has paused the equity book program and is now conducting a review of all the books in the program. "Call Me Max" was not part of the school's equity book program, but was read in a class when a student brought it from home.

Parents can be discouraged from raising concerns about curriculum in their schools for a couple reasons.

First, a lot of LGBT propaganda is often packaged with other content that is not objectionable.

Only two books on the list appear to be directly about the LGBTQ community. One of those is for fifth graders about the work of Harvey Milk, one of the first openly gay elected officials in the United States. The other is for sixth graders and titled "Rainbow Revolutionaries: 50 LGBTQ+ People Who Made History."

In addition to two LGBT books, the Murray School District equity book program includes books from black and Hispanic authors that give children a window into people and experiences they may not be able to understand. Not only is it not a problem for young children to be reading about the life and work of Frederick Douglass, it's valuable.

But when good literature is packaged with bad literature as part of an "equity" curriculum, parents who object to the bad literature are likely to be portrayed as being opposed to the good literature as well. Sadly, in our current culture, being misunderstood is simply part of opposing bad policies and bad ideas.

Second, much of the problematic curriculum in schools is presented as “anti-bullying” curriculum. For many on the Left, the only way to solve the serious and tragic challenges of children who identify as LGBT is to create a world in which everyone affirms their identities and choices.

For Christians, that isn't an option. But there can still be common ground because everyone wants to stop bullying. But even if we have the same goal, conflict will arise if our tactics are different. Some believe the best way to stop bullying is to encourage kindness and develop an atmosphere of respect despite differences. Others, however, believe the best way to stop bullying is to eliminate our differences and require conformity to a single set of beliefs.

When you engage with people who believe the solution to bullying is creating a world in which everyone believes the same things, conflict is inevitable. But it's still worth it. It's worth it because as parents, we aren't fighting for our reputation or our social standing, we are fighting for the minds and hearts of our kids.

Besides, the world our kids are growing up in is going to require some courage. The pressure they face to conform and surrender will likely be much stronger than anything we faced. Their job will be made much easier if, in their moments of decision, they can be encouraged by the times they saw mom and dad do the right things even when it was going to be hard.

Pro-life, pro-black, pro-American film ‘Divided Hearts of America’ hits Amazon

Jason Jones, producer of the acclaimed film ‘Bella,’ called it ‘the most important film I’ve ever had the privilege of working on in any capacity, of over 50 films.’

February 18, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — The pro-life documentary Divided Hearts of America, produced by Jason Jones (Bella, Crescendo) and executive produced by Super Bowl champion Benjamin Watson, is now streaming on Amazon, Google, iTunes and other video platforms.

The film, which seeks to give those on both sides of the abortion debate an opportunity to “express themselves as clearly as possible,” airs the thoughts and experiences of people whose lives are touched by abortion in almost every possible way: From an ex-abortionist; to an abortion survivor; to senators, both Democrat and Republican; to post-abortive mothers and a post-abortive father; to the child of a rape victim who chose life.

“I think not only is it the most important film I’ve ever produced, it’s the most important film I’ve ever had the privilege of working on in any capacity, of over 50 films. And I think Divided Hearts of America really has the secret to unite America in this confused time,” Jones told LifeSiteNews.

Those interviewed by former New England Patriots tight end Benjamin Watson include Dr. Ben Carson, Alveda King (the niece of Martin Luther King Jr.), Democrat Louisiana state Sen. Katrina Jackson, Republican U.S. Sen. Tim Scott, New York state Sens. Liz Krueger and Gustavo Rivera, and more.

One of the key themes the documentary explores is the “why” and “how” of abortion’s place in the lives of Black Americans. “My hope is our film reminds our nation that black lives matter because black lives are sacred,” Jones told LifeSiteNews in a previous interview.

Jones explained that although Divided Hearts of America is indeed a pro-life film, “[i]t’s really a pro-American film. What I mean by that is, we made this film because we recognized our country was being torn apart,” said Jones.

“A couple of years ago when Governor Cuomo lit Freedom Tower pink to celebrate infanticide, we saw this as just an epic symbol of denial of America’s founding principle. And that founding principle, the declaration principle that we are endowed by God with inalienable rights, is the source of our unity,” Jones continued.

“We’re not unified in religious traditions, cultural traditions, ethnic heritage. We as a people have always been — the principle of unity from our very beginning was the anthropology of the human person having an inviolable dignity,” said Jones.

Jones revealed that the film was originally going to be titled, Before the Fall, to signify that the legalization of abortion will lead to the fall of the American Republic.

“The director, Chad Bonham’s original title was Before the Fall, because he had a sort of pessimism that we wouldn’t succeed. We decided, we’ll go with the more hopeful title. And as you look at what’s happening in the country today, I think the director maybe had a better title with ‘Before the Fall,’ because we’re telling a tale before the fall of our republic,” Jones admitted.

“Here’s what we know: that our nation cannot weather another 40 years of Roe v. Wade. Our republic will not stand another 40 years of denying our founding principle. And if you turn on the news, you fear we may not survive another year,” Jones continued.

“I’ve always said that the pro-life movement is the most important social movement in the history of our country, not only because we’re protecting preborn children and women from the violence of abortion, but because our republic is at stake, and all of the peace and prosperity and freedom that has gone with the United States existing as a country in the world,” Jones said.

He makes the case that defending the dignity of the unborn is part and parcel of defending the dignity of human life as such. This is why he considers Joe Biden’s defense of the Uighur genocide to be the natural result of his compromise on the dignity of the unborn.

“Joe Biden defended China’s policy on the genocide of the [Uighurs]. Three million ethnic and religious minorities in concentration camps, forced abortions, sterilization, organ harvesting. That speech by Joe Biden was the fruit of his position on abortion. When Joe Biden abandoned the Church’s teachings on abortion, he turned his back on the truth about the human person,” Jones declared.

“The Trump administration declared it a genocide. And yesterday, with an appeal to cultural relativism, Biden shrugged it off. The pro-life movement has been at the heart of all this. So when we’re fighting to defend the child in the womb, we’re fighting also to defend the Uyghurs in slave camps,” Jones continued.

While Jones has a history of producing pro-life films more successful than most, such as the highly acclaimed and award-winning Bella and Crescendo, he acknowledged the possibility of “roadblocks” when LifeSiteNews asked him if he had any concerns about censorship of the film.

“We have to be relentless and creative in finding platforms to share our stories, knowing full well that there will be obstacles placed in our way. Standing up to the spirit of the age has never been easy in the history of the world,” said Jones.

“Pope John Paul II, as a young actor in Nazi occupation, he and his cohorts faced much more serious challenges than we did, yet they went on and performed plays in dimly lit basements. So if I have to end up screening our films in dimly lit basements, I will,” he continued.

If Jones’ previous films are any indication, Divided Hearts of America has tremendous potential to impact hearts, minds, and lives.

“We know hundreds of women who chose life because they saw Bella,” said Jones. He also shared that one of his other prolifically awarded films, Crescendo, which he made with Justin Bieber’s mother, Pattie Mallette, had raised over $5 million for pregnancy centers and women’s shelters with fundraising events.

“I think we can even do more with Divided Hearts. This is a feature-length documentary and it’s so timely,” said Jones. He explained that “in some states that are more open, you can rent movie theaters for $75.” With a screening fee of $199, it means that for a total of about $300, people can put on fundraisers at their local theaters.

“This will be a great tool to not only educate, but to be an instrument of funding for the pro-life movement,” Jones explained.

“We made this movie, and ‘Movie to Movement’ makes movies for one purpose: to defend the vulnerable from violence by inspiring solidarity and telling the truth about the human person. And I think the best film in the world to do this right now is Divided Hearts of America.”

Divided Hearts of America can be purchased on Amazon Prime Video and YouTube, as well as on its original platform, Salem Now, among others.

Visit the Movie to Movement site to host a private screening of Divided Hearts of America.

New York governor sinking in COVID scandal as Democrats turn against him

At this point, it seems even Gov. Andrew Cuomo's own party has begun to see him as a liability.

February 18, 2021 (Family Research Council) — You know you're in trouble when your own party turns against you. That's the lesson New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is learning, or should be learning, right now.

Washington Times reporter Valerie Richardson explained yesterday on Washington Watch that "there is quite a bit of momentum right now into at the very least a state investigation," and quite possibly a federal investigation as well. But it's not just Republicans, she said: "There is increasing pressure in the Democratic Party to do something about the Cuomo scandal." Too bad it took them nine months after the scandal broke to do anything.

New York was America's first and deadliest hotspot of the coronavirus pandemic, driven in large part by poor policymaking from the very top. Governor Cuomo forced nursing homes to accept Covid-positive patients who were discharged from hospitals, placing New York's most vulnerable citizens at the greatest risk of exposure. But instead of quickly reversing course when it became clear this would be a disaster, Cuomo dragged his feet for six weeks. Then to dig his own hole deeper, Governor Cuomo helped to cover up the extent of this problem, underreporting the nursing home deaths (in which he was complicit) by as much as 50 percent. That's according to a report by New York's attorney general, who is herself a Democrat. In other words, Cuomo lied; people died.

Shockingly, Governor Cuomo still refuses to come clean. Last week, an aide only apologized for the political inconvenience, and not the actual deaths. But in a Monday press conference Cuomo remained on the defensive:

So there is nothing to investigate. All the numbers we produced were exactly right. We didn't provide all the information that was requested. That did create a void and misinformation did fill the void. And that misinformation gave people aggravation, and confused people, and confused people who lost a loved one, and allowed conspiracy theories to fester. And that aggravated people who lost a loved one, because now you don't know what to believe. And that is the last thing anyone wanted to create.

To be clear, by "misinformation," Cuomo means the real number of nursing home patients who died from Covid-19 as a result of his policies, which his own Attorney General says could be up to twice as much as the number he reported. And by "conspiracy theories," Cuomo means the attempted coverup, which his own staff have admitted to. But never mind, he says, "there is nothing to investigate." Really?

It's not just Republicans, said Richardson. "Democrats are really having none of it at this point." Democratic leaders in the state legislature are "contradicting what he said at his press conference." Democratic state legislators "are tweeting about how he needs to tell what happened and disclose more and be more transparent." Democratic Assemblyman Ron Kim said specifically he was "lying" in his Monday press conference. I guess this explains why Governor Cuomo receive the international Emmy for his masterful Covid-19 briefings. He really was acting.

Governor Cuomo defiantly refuses to accept responsibility for his decisions. He tried to sweep it under the rug. Then he tried to blame everyone under the sun, including the victims themselves. At this point, it seems even his own party has begun to see him as a liability. Richardson reports that "the minimum the state legislature could do at this point would be to revoke his emergency powers, which they appear to be poised to do." That seems like a step states beyond New York should take.

February 18, 2021 (The American Mind) — Hard to believe, but I have a kid approaching driving age. He’s a wonderful boy, in every way. Devout, intelligent, and obsessed with basketball and video games, says his prayers every night before bed. Always reminds me to do penance on Fridays if I forget what day it is and eat meat (what day is this?). Anyway, the Catholic formation we attempted, albeit imperfectly, to impose on him took. It blossomed.

Our son is always dressed for sports practice. He asked for a new weight bench and plates for Christmas. He spent all of lockdown working out, just to make himself into a better basketball player. He measures himself every day and prays for more height. He is obviously, and very apparently, comfortable with all aspects of boyhood.

When it comes to his gender identity, the science is not only settled, but set in stone. You would have to be an imbecile not to see this instantly.

Or a pediatrician.

The Doctor Will Seize You Now

It started out as a normal annual checkup, until the pediatrician asked me to leave the room. I didn’t understand at first. “Why?” I asked. “There are some questions I need to ask him without you here.” “Like what?” “Oh, you know, about drugs and smoking.” I stared at her, my mind racing. I realized that if I refused, other issues would be raised. Red flags would be added to the chart. Why wouldn’t I want him to talk to a doctor? Was I hiding something? Did he have secrets I wanted kept secret? “Do I have to leave?” I asked, still stunned. “Yes, I need to ask him these things.” She stared at me not smiling. My longtime doctor who had always been attentive and kind, was suddenly swinging iron keys to my gulag cell while punching the number to Child Protective Services on her phone.

Reader, I left. I lingered outside the door for a minute until a nurse ushered me into an empty storage room to wait, where I couldn’t eavesdrop.

A few minutes later, the doctor slinked out and waved goodbye without a word. On the way to the car, the boy told me what happened. “She talked to me about drugs and alcohol. And she told me when I have sex to use a condom.”

And finally, the kicker: “Then she asked me if I was comfortable with my gender.”

Beware the Pedo-atrician

He thought the gender question was absurd and funny. But he was outraged about the condom question. “Mom, she told me to use birth control. Until I’m twenty-five! I’d be committing a mortal sin.” He’s so good. I don’t deserve him. I got angrier and angrier as we drove home. Here was this doctor my son had seen in person a total of five times in his life probing his most intimate secrets. Does the white coat magically melt away kids’ stranger danger and cause them to open up to middle-aged harridans holding clipboards? Guys, they really do want to separate you from your children and dictate their own agenda to them! It’s not just theoretical anymore. This time it’s personal.

I realized too late that I don’t know anything about our doctor, I don’t know her beliefs or her politics, because it never occurred to me that a pediatrician visit would become political.

How dare she decide to give a child an impromptu sex ed lesson without his parent’s permission. Would she recommend condoms to a young Muslim boy? Would she ask a Hasidic boy if he was comfortable with his gender? Condoms and premarital sex are literally against the Catholic religion. I realize many people think those edicts are dumb. Most people laugh at them and think we’re idiots to presume our children are actually chaste. “Kids are going to do it no matter what you say, you dumb religious fanatic.” Well guess what? Any rules that can help a child avoid catastrophic psychic damage are excellent rules and they work

Enjoy your daughter’s chronic chlamydia, years of heartbreak, and icing off all those genital warts before prom! I’ll be over here dandling my first grandchild on my knee in ten years.

Isn’t a pediatrician’s entire mission in life to keep kids healthy?  Do these nutty MDs really think it would be good and healthy for a ninth grader to be having sex? With other ninth graders? What about with eighth graders? Is an active sex life something they recommend for children, along with eating vegetables and using a car seat and wearing sunscreen?

Call me old-fashioned but giving a child hot tips on how to make the most of their sex life—and doing it in a room alone with the kid after kicking the parent out—sounds like grooming.

They already teach kids how to use sex toys and more in our American middle schools, so I shouldn’t have been shocked by this relatively benign doctor visit. Some evil genius will soon launch a line of sex toys designed and marketed specifically for children. Size XXS anal plugs, with the letters of the alphabet on them for educational purposes. Maybe David Hogg can produce these after his pillow triumph!

Doctor Demented

A Harvard gender studies professor born before 1980 would insist that our doctor was correct not to assume my son was happy as a boy. To these starched shirts, stereotyping children based on superficial things like playing basketball is wrong, since girls like sports too. According to this type of ancient progressive, assuming that my son is male because of activities he enjoys, or his favorite color, is sexism.

But those were last week’s woke progressives, Grandpx! This week, the best way to diagnose transgenderism is to take a cursory glance at how a kid acts on a playground and boom, vee cut off your johnson!

This video illustrates this dangerous stupidity. At around 1:40, a man dressed like a woman tells his five-year-old daughter that she is actually a boy because she likes to run around and not sit still “like a girl.” He informs the little girl, who is visibly uncomfortable around her creepy father “that’s called being transgender.”

Oh, you’re a girl who likes running and being loud? You’re a boy now. You’re a boy who likes playing quietly with stuffed animals? Your new name is Justine, Justin. You like basketball and worship Steph Curry? You’re obviously a boy.

Our pediatrician was still using the more nuanced, third-wave-feminist method of digging deep into a child’s secret identity. But the 2021 trans detectives have now lowered the threshold. They’re casting a much wider net, with the obvious goal of entrapping more children. The more trans children generated by their machine, the more clout, influence, power, and fame accumulates to the trans lobby. But I suspect that the true reason they want to make your kids trans is because it somehow eases their psychic pain. They’re like vampires hunting and biting children, so they can have playthings for all eternity.

No matter what, they are coming for the kids. We had the doors locked, the windows battened down, the chimney flue sealed shut, but the brainworms still got inside the house.

Fortunately there is a vaccine to the diseases inflicted on kids by a depraved culture and by their doctors. It’s painless, and there are no adverse side effects. Faith in God is the only thing that can stop them, I’m afraid. It’s corny, I know, but there is no other way, and it still might not be 100% effective. You can only fight great evil with something powerful enough to counter it.

My son’s health was protected by this invisible and mighty force field. Parents, activate your force fields immediately, before it’s too late.

And you might need a new doctor.

Priest on COVID vaccine: ‘The risks far outweigh the benefits’

In regards to the risk, here are some facts which should be heavily considered in order to determine the morality of this treatment.

Editor’s note: The following essay comes from a priest well known to LifeSiteNews. Prudence requires the author to remain anonymous. We hope this anonymity will help people focus on the ideas being presented rather the person presenting them.

February 18, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – As headlines sound that “nobody is safe until everyone is vaccinated” and that “it is an ethical obligation” to receive this new “vaccine,” many ethical questions are presented to our consciences. The decision we make concerning this “vaccine” may profoundly and permanently touch our lives, and must be prudently and calmly considered.

Prudence is a moral virtue which gives us the correct knowledge of things to be done in particular cases. It resides in the practical intellect and gives the habitual disposition to know what is good and evil in the matter at hand. Prudence is the queen of the moral virtues and must govern all of our human acts.

In order to make a prudential decision one must be aware of the past, understand the current situation, and have a concern for the future. The history of vaccinations is very controversial so we will merely lay out a few historical facts, which may help us consider the current situation.

We will look briefly at the history of the vaccine, where it was discovered that immunity from Smallpox was present in those previously exposed to cowpox. The term vaccine is derived from the Latin word Vacca, which means cow. In 1853 in Leicester, England, Smallpox vaccines were mandatory[1]. Men were imprisoned if they could not pay the fines incurred for refusing to have their children vaccinated.[2] In 1871, after years of compulsory vaccination and a 110% vaccination rate, Leicester was struck with a severe outbreak of Smallpox. The initial reaction of the government was to administer more doses of the vaccine and give stricter fines for refusal to receive it. At that time, about 30% of the exposed population died – similar to the bubonic plague and the Spanish Flu in 1918 – which would make it more necessary to comply to a government mandate versus COVID-19's 0.2% fatality rate which is comparable to our yearly flu.

People protested against this. Thanks to this political pressure, it was agreed that vaccination was no longer going to be forced upon the population. The result was quite different than what was predicted. Though officials presumed that the people of Leicester were risking the health of the world, and were sure to cause an outbreak of disease that would set the planet on fire, nothing of the like actually happened. In fact, the graphs of the disease rates and the death rates went down precipitously after the vaccinations were stopped.[3]

Dr. Thomas Mack M.D., M.P.H., who is an expert in Smallpox, argued to the CDC that Smallpox was not ended by the vaccine but by economic developments. His view was published by the New England Journal of Medicine as “A Different View of Smallpox and Vaccination.” [4]

In regards to current events, the World Health Organization declared a Global Pandemic on March 11, 2020.  The survival rate for this pandemic is between 94.6% and 99.997%[5] depending on one’s age and health. In the wake of this declared pandemic, the world has been locked-down for one year and a “vaccine” was proposed as the only way “to get back to normal.” In order to end the lockdowns, billions of dollars were invested to “warp-speed” new COVID-19 vaccines.

After a year-long rollercoaster of fatiguing lockdowns, this new treatment is now available, but we are now told that even after one gets the vaccine, he still cannot go back to normal. In fact, we are now being told that this vaccine does not stop infection or transmission.[6] We are also told that this virus is mutating and you will need regular boosters. This makes us wonder if this new treatment even qualifies as a vaccine in the traditional sense. It also provokes a legitimate question. Why take it?

This brings us to our first prudential consideration related to “informed consent.” We must weigh the proportion between the risk and the benefit. We do this on a daily basis in all of our actions from crossing the street to white-water rafting. In most daily activities this analysis is habitual and con-natural, but in other cases we need to step back and calmly reflect on the moral principles and facts.

In regards to the benefits, there may be some short term benefits in taking the novel treatment. Bowing to political pressure may facilitate travel and work, but at what cost?

In regards to the risk, here are some facts which should be heavily considered in order to determine the morality of this treatment.

  1. “Operation Warp Speed” produced this treatment in less than one year. Animal trials were skipped and no long-term studies could be done in such a short time. Conventional medicine and traditional vaccines are tested for years before going to market to ensure their safety and efficacy. [7]
  2. In the short term studies there has been an alarming number of adverse reactions. Since the “vaccine” has been rolled out, many untimely deaths have ensued.[8] These deaths need to be investigated by organizations not invested in the “vaccine.”
  3. Doctors and researchers have testified that in spite of years of research, a vaccine for a coronavirus was never successfully developed.  In the animal studies conducted in the past, animals were sterilized by the “vaccine.” Additionally, the “vaccine” often acted as a pathological primer, so that when the vaccinated animal was exposed to the live virus, its body overreacted and the animal died. [9] If this happens with the new COVID-19 “vaccine” it could cause irreparable harm to a great part of the population. The British Government has warned that the vaccine may cause fertility problems.[10]
  4. In addition, like all vaccines since 1986, vaccine companies are in no way liable if you are injured by this vaccine. Additionally, since this treatment is only approved for emergency use, not only are the vaccine companies not liable, but even the U.S. Government Vaccine Courts,[11] which have paid out billions of dollars in 30 years, are exempt from liability. The public’s only recourse will be the Countermeasures Injury Compensation Program, which has rejected 90% of vaccine-injury claims over the past decade.[12] If the vaccine is safe, and injuries are rare, why the need to shield the vaccine companies from the consequences of their products?

These few considerations make it very clear that there is no proportion between risk and benefit. In fact, the risks far outweigh the benefits and, without some extenuating and subjective reasons, one must not take this vaccine. If one thinks that there is proportionate cause in his particular case, it would be a question to address with his spiritual director and trusted medical advisor.

Another consideration that must be made is that some of these vaccines are tainted by abortion, either in the process of manufacturing or in their testing. We must hold as sacred the principles of Moral Theology which allow material cooperation in the sin of another for a proportionate cause. For a proportionate cause to exist in accepting a tainted vaccine, it must be safe, effective, and necessary. The dangers of the disease must be significant and the tainted vaccine must be the only prudential option. If other options are available they must be used instead of the tainted vaccine.

We must note that the more proximate the cooperation in the evil, the more serious of a reason is needed to actually cooperate in that evil. As stated above, we are dealing with a virus which 94.6% to 99.997% of people survive. Additionally, there are many very promising treatments being suppressed[13], which do not have the same uncertainties and risks of this treatment, and are not tainted by the crime of abortion. In such a case, a Catholic, who needs treatment, must first seek non-tainted and properly tested treatments.

In regards to the relation between abortion and vaccines, it should be noted that many abortions had to be performed to successfully develop each fetal cell line. Take, for example, the term/name “HEK-293”[14]. HEK stands for Human Embryonic Kidney, and 293 for the number of samples that had to be taken to get a viable line. These samples had to be taken very soon after the abortion[15]. It is unknown how many abortions had to be performed to start this line[16] (or any tainted line) but we do know the relationship between medical-research companies and abortion clinics is live-and-well and, even today, live births are provoked as companies harvest fresh organs for the sake of “medical research.”[17] This process is very horrifying to people of faith who should—to the extent possible— seek religious exemptions from such tainted vaccines. This position is supported by the congregation of Faith (CDF).

The Congregation of the Faith on December 21, 2020 stated in paragraph 5 of “Note on the morality of using some anti-Covid-19 vaccines”:

“…. practical reason makes evident that vaccination is not, as a rule, a moral obligation and that, therefore, it must be voluntary. In any case, from the ethical point of view, the morality of vaccination depends not only on the duty to protect one's own health, but also on the duty to pursue the common good. In the absence of other means to stop or even prevent the epidemic, the common good may recommend vaccination, especially to protect the weakest and most exposed. Those who, however, for reasons of conscience, refuse vaccines produced with cell lines from aborted fetuses, must do their utmost to avoid, by other prophylactic means and appropriate behavior, becoming vehicles for the transmission of the infectious agent….”

With this being said, the taking of a tainted vaccine is in no way formal cooperation in the sin of abortion as long as the recipient does not share in the evil intent of the abortionist and research companies. The taking of the vaccine is a human act distinct from the crime of abortion and from the sinful act of harvesting and developing the cells of electively aborted children. If a person were asked to blaspheme or formally partake in an idolatrous rite in the act of taking this vaccine, he would then be obligated to refuse even to the point of martyrdom.

With this being said it is clear that we have even more reason to refuse the COVID-19 vaccine/treatments which are tainted by abortion than the vaccines/treatments which are not abortion-tainted. If one thinks that there is proportionate cause to take a tainted vaccine he must first consult his confessor. We should also ask our clergy to use their influence to stop this horrible practice of using aborted babies for medical research.

When considering mandatory vaccination, it must be noted that the end of the State is the Common Good of the citizens. Health is an integral part of the Common Good and on this account the State does have a duty to make provisions for the health of the community. However, the State cannot force her citizens to take a shot, which they have reason to believe is not moral, safe, or effective. We reiterate here the statement from the CDF on this topic: “practical reason makes evident that vaccination is not, as a rule, a moral obligation and that, therefore, it must be voluntary.”

We will not attempt to resolve the over-a-century long battle as to whether the State could theoretically mandate such a medical procedure. The theory can be defended to the extent that it is abundantly clear that a certain therapy is necessary for the Common Good, and is also safe and effective. In the concrete, we do not think these conditions have ever been met, and it is abundantly clear that this experimental treatment/vaccine cannot be morally obligatory since there is no evidence that it is necessary and there is no proof that it is safe and effective. In addition to not being proven safe and effective, some of these treatments are tainted by abortion, which increases our aversion to them.[18] In such a condition, any law mandating these vaccines would be an unjust law. We must protest profusely to the doctor and to the government if ever mandated by whatever authority.

Aleksander Solzhenitsyn taught us that lies are perpetuated by fear and force.  The world has been living in fear and under totalitarian force for nearly one year and all promises from “two weeks to flatten the curve” to “no going back to normal until all are vaccinated” have proven to be lies. The majority of people have continually complied with these totalitarian measures, which have closed our churches, deprived countless souls of the Sacraments, and left many souls to die without the Last Rites. Are we not all in danger — due to force or fear — of irrevocably participating in the lie? If we participate in the lie even to the point of accepting this untested and tainted vaccine where will it all end? What kind of future will we leave to the next generation?

As we learned from the protests in Leicester, England, strength is in transparency and in numbers. The more people refuse to take this new experimental therapy, the sooner we can hope that this health dictatorship will lose its control over our lives.

We know that this is above all a spiritual battle. The whole world is the stage upon which is fought the battle between the serpent and the Virgin. Let us take our rosaries and beg our Mother to protect us from these horrible evils. Let us beg her to give the Pope the grace to consecrate Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. As we know from the message at Fatima, there will be no peace until her request is properly fulfilled.

[7] Dr. William Wodarg and Dr. Michael Yeadon put out a petition in early December to call off all SARS-CoV-2 vaccine studies until a study design was put in place to address concerns about the vaccine and the inadequate study design behind it. The lack of testing the drug on animals, the lack of time to study the long-term effects, the accentuated process of an exaggerated immune reaction to a real or wide virus in a process known as antibody-dependent amplification, and the polyethylene glycol in the vaccine, a substance to which 70% of people have allergic and possibly fatal reactions, are just some of the concerns under consideration.

[12] Anyone suffering from a serious injury will have little legal recourse because they will be directed to the Countermeasures Injury Compensation Program which has rejected 90% of vaccine-injury claims over the past decade.

Newly appointed Swiss bishop declines to have his own episcopal coat of arms

The 72-year-old Bonnemain is an Opus Dei priest (ordained in 1978) and, while he initially had worked in the 1990s under the conservative former Bishop of Chur, Wolfgang Haas, he has since turned toward a more progressivist attitude, inclined to collaborate with the very secularist Swiss public.

SWITZERLAND, February 18, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – Joseph Maria Bonnemain, who Pope Francis picked on Monday for the Diocese of Chur, Switzerland against the wishes of the local ecclesial leadership, declared on Wednesday that he won’t have his own episcopal coat of arms. “For me, Christ’s sign of the cross is sufficient,” he explained, thus breaking a tradition of the Church.

When Pope Francis announced on Monday that Bonnemain was to be the next bishop of the traditionally conservative Diocese of Chur, he at the same time accepted the retirement of Bishop Marian Eleganti, auxiliary bishop of that same diocese and a well-known defender of the Church's traditions and moral teachings. Eleganti had, in accordance with canon law, sent his offer of retirement to Rome in 2019.

As LifeSiteNews reported in November of last year, Pope Francis had proposed three candidates for the new bishop in Chur, all of whom then had been rejected by the conservative-leaning cathedral chapter of Chur, which was in itself a historic event. But this rejection of the three candidates left it up to the Pope to choose a new bishop.

His own secularist leanings can be seen in a Facebook post he made in September 2015, where he depicts himself, similar to that of a fashion model, in a tight Calvin Klein shirt, receiving praises for his beauty. Bonnemain also posted numerous photos from his vacation trips depicting nude male statues and other sensuous situations.

In 2017, Bonnemain published a document about Pope Francis’s post-synodal exhortation Amoris Laetitia concerning marriage and the family, in which he fully endorsed the change of the Church's handling of cases of “remarried” divorcees. He positively and extensively quoted the guidelines of the bishops of Buenos Aires which state that some couples in irregular situations might, after a period of discernment have access to the sacraments, to include Holy Communion. Speaking about Amoris Laetitia – which he calls “revolutionary” – Bonnemain stated that it is not anymore about “admission or non-admission [to the sacraments] on the part of the Church’s authorities, but, rather, about a serious decision on the part of the concerned faithful themselves.” Canon 915, he continued, is not anymore “applicable to the remarried divorcees.” That canon bans those Catholics from the reception of Holy Communion who persevere “in manifest grave sin.” Catholics who live in a second “marriage” after a divorce live objectively in a grave state of sin, the sin of adultery.

Pope Francis’s decision to choose Bonnemain for the Diocese of Chur will therefore undermine the traditionally conservative diocese. The previous bishop, Vitus Huonder, was known for his strong stance against abortion and Communion for “remarried” divorcees. In February 2017, he issued guidelines on marriage, reaffirming the Church’s continuous teaching against Communion for divorced and “remarried” couples. Huonder had also reiterated Humanae Vitae’s rejection of contraceptives. Since Huonder's retirement a year and a half ago, the diocese was left without a bishop; there are many forces in liberal Switzerland who wish for a liberalizing new bishop who would be less “controversial” and more adapting to the zeitgeist.

Now the Swiss progressives are rejoicing about Pope Francis’s decision. Raphael Rauch, one commentator on Kath.ch, the official news website of the Swiss Bishops’ Conference, called Monsignor Bonnemain a “superman,” expecting from him to start the “Golden Twenties” (a reference to the 20s of the 20th century, in which many moral laxities were introduced in the West) in the diocese.

“Those priests who had been against Bonnemain,” he expounded, “should now immediately resign – or be silent forever.” The tone is getting harsh in Chur, so much so that Kath.ch also published today a quote from Thomas Binotto, a Swiss journalist who called upon Bonnemain to completely rebuild the diocesan leadership. Kath.ch’s article is entitled: “Thomas Binotto: Bonnemain has to let go of [vicar general] Grichting, Fuchs, and [press speaker] Gracia.” These names are the closest collaborators of the former and retired Bishop Vitus Huonder. Binotto also called upon Bonnemain to “call competent women into leadership positions.”

LifeSite reached out to a well-informed source of the Diocese of Chur, asking him for comment. While wishing to remain anonymous, he stated:

You have to pay attention to the question which circles, and what kind of people in the Church and in the media, are delighted with a bishop, and which people are concerned. Their relations with him are very often not authentic, insofar as they are based only on the extent to which he serves their own interests. As soon as this is no longer the case, the love, the enthusiasm, and the support are also over. At this point, true and false worship are separated. Therefore, the word of the Lord applies: “Woe to you when all men praise you, for in the same way their fathers did it to the false prophets. To you who listen to me, I say: Love your enemies; do good to those who hate you. Bless those who curse you; pray for those who mistreat you.” (Lk 6:26-28) Today, mistreatment takes place by way of the media.

Trump gives voice to years of conservative grievances against Mitch McConnell

Chief among those grievances is McConnell’s record of backing establishmentarians over conservatives in GOP primaries — sometimes resulting in Democrats defeating both.

WASHINGTON, D.C., February 18, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — Former President Donald Trump excoriated Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell as a “dour, sullen, and unsmiling political hack” on Tuesday, in response to the Republican leader blaming Trump for the January 6 riot on Capitol Hill.

In a February 13 floor speech, McConnell claimed that the January 6 rioters stormed the Capitol “because they had been fed wild falsehoods by the most powerful man on Earth — because he was angry he’d lost an election … There is no question that President Trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of that day.”

As covered by LifeSiteNews, the original allegation was that Trump incited the riot against certifying the 2020 election results by urging supporters at the “March to Save America” rally to march to the Capitol building.

But after review of Trump’s actual words confirmed that he had actually asked protesters to “peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard” and “cheer on our brave senators and congressmen-and-women” who wanted an audit of the election results, as well as the discovery that the violence was started by people who either left Trump’s speech early or skipped it entirely, Trump’s foes shifted to claiming that Trump provoked the riot simply by challenging the election results up until their congressional certification.

“The Republican Party can never again be respected or strong with political ‘leaders’ like Sen. Mitch McConnell at its helm,” Trump’s response began. “McConnell’s dedication to business as usual, status quo policies, together with his lack of political insight, wisdom, skill, and personality, has rapidly driven him from Majority Leader to Minority Leader, and it will only get worse.”

“In ‘Mitch’s Senate,’ over the last two election cycles, I single-handedly saved at least 12 Senate seats, more than eight in the 2020 cycle alone,” Trump continued, “and then came the Georgia disaster, where we should have won both U.S. Senate seats, but McConnell matched the Democrat offer of $2,000 stimulus checks with $600. How does that work? It became the Democrats’ principal advertisement, and a big winner for them it was.”

“McConnell has no credibility on China because of his family’s substantial Chinese business holding,” the former president alleged. “He does nothing on this tremendous economic and military threat.

“Mitch is a dour, sullen, and unsmiling political hack, and if Republican Senators are going to stay with him, they will not win again,” Trump warned. “He will never do what needs to be done, or what is right for our Country. Where necessary and appropriate, I will back primary rivals who espouse Making America Great Again and our policy of America First. We want brilliant, strong, thoughtful, and compassionate leadership.”

Trump’s broadside against McConnell brings to the forefront conservative grievances that have been simmering against the GOP Senate leader for years.

Primary politics

Chief among those grievances is McConnell’s record of backing establishmentarians over conservatives in GOP primaries — sometimes resulting in Democrats defeating both.

In 2017, Democrat Doug Jones pulled off an upset in reliably red Alabama when he defeated former Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore in a special election for the state’s Senate seat, which had been vacated when Trump chose Jeff Sessions to be his Attorney General. Conventional wisdom blamed the loss on primary voters nominating Moore, whose candidacy was fatally wounded by last-minute claims of sexual assault and molestation.

At The Federalist, however, Republican consultant Jordan Gehrke argued that McConnell deserved the lion’s share of the blame for Moore winning the nomination in the first place. McConnell and his Senate Leadership Fund PAC backed for the nomination state Attorney General Luther Strange, whose initial appointment to the Senate by then-Gov. Robert Bently was viewed by many as a scheme to get Strange to stop investigating the governor for corruption. McConnell convinced Trump to endorse Strange, as well.

But there was a third choice in the primary: conservative Rep. Mo Brooks, a member of the House Freedom Caucus. McConnell’s camp spent $4 million to knock out Brooks early, based on the theory that Moore would be easier for Strange to defeat once the primary was narrowed to two Republicans. Instead, Gehrke writes, “by injecting themselves in such a ham-fisted way, they had made Mitch McConnell the issue, not Roy Moore,” focusing the primary on the question, “Do you really want to reward McConnell with his millions of K Street cash, or do you want to send him a message to stop messing around in our state?”

In addition, winning Republicans McConnell initially opposed include Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, Marco Rubio, Mike Lee, and Ron Johnson, while he backed the nominations of GOP candidates Tommy Thompson, Rick Berg, and Connie Mack, all of whom went on to lose their races.

The Blaze senior editor Daniel Horowitz attributes Republicans’ failure to repeal ObamaCare during Trump’s first term partly to McConnell’s support of moderate-to-liberal Republican senators, including Susan Collins, Shelly Moore Capito, Lindsey Graham, Bill Cassidy, Lamar Alexander, and pro-abortion Lisa Murkowski, of whom McConnell said in 2018, “I’m proud she’s in the Republican conference.”

Yet this track record did not stop McConnell from telling the Wall Street Journal this week that he plans to increase his intervention in Republican primaries, boasting, “What I care about is electability.”

Pro-life stagnation

In 2015, the Center for Medical Progress’s release of undercover videos exposing Planned Parenthood’s sale of aborted baby parts intensified demands to defund the abortion giant, which would have required a standoff between Republican lawmakers and then-president Barack Obama over which side would give in first to end a government shutdown.

“According to a source with close ties to the pro-life movement, McConnell and [then-Speaker of the House John] Boehner spent the month of August warning pro-life organizations, including National Right to Life, Americans United for Life, Susan B. Anthony List and Family Research Council, against backing conservatives’ efforts to stop taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood” via a continuing resolution, Conservative Review’s Blaze Bullock reported at the time.

“McConnell and Boehner are just doing this to make it seem like the pro-life groups aren’t unified on the issue,” the unidentified source told Bullock. “Waiting until we have a Republican in the White House doesn’t make any sense because we still won’t be able to get to 60 votes in the Senate,” another source, a Capitol Hill aide, added. “Plus, Republicans will be even less likely to try to defund it, because if the government shuts down they really won’t be able to blame Democrats.”

Trump’s 2016 victory excited conservatives with the prospect of finally defunding the abortion giant and enacting numerous other reforms the movement has championed for years, such as banning late-term abortion. But while the Trump administration did much for the preborn via executive action, little came in the way of new laws sent by a GOP-controlled Congress to Trump’s desk.

Just days after Trump’s inauguration, pro-life lawmakers such as Rep. Trent Franks pressed McConnell at a Republican retreat on whether he would work to enact pro-life bills passed by the House of Representatives. In response, McConnell refused to commit to bringing pro-life bills to the Senate floor for a vote, because not enough Democrats would cross the aisle to provide the 60 votes needed to overcome the current filibuster rules.

Trump and many Republican lawmakers favored ending the supermajority requirement for ordinary legislation, which is not part of the Constitution and in fact was rejected by the Founding Fathers.

It would have been possible (if time-consuming) to circumvent the filibuster without repeal by forcing the minority party to engage in a literal filibuster and enforce the “two-speech rule” limiting the number of times individual Democrats can speak. But McConnell has long refused to consider repealing or altering the rule.

“The public doesn’t want to hear about process; they want to see us get stuff done,” Republican Rep. Mike Rogers said at the time. “I think there is a very low threshold of tolerance among our electorate right now for historical process [and] precedent.”

“We have sent border security bills to the Senate that go nowhere,” Republican Rep. Bruce Poliquin lamented. “Sanctuary city bills that get stuck. We stood up against the Iran nuclear deal. The Senate never even voted on it. We have a very impatient Republican House and a very impatient electorate … We want to get things done.”

Republican defenders of the filibuster argued it must remain as a safeguard against the harm Democrats could do if they retook Congress and the White House. Now that they have, Democrat leaders continue to discuss potentially repealing the filibuster anyway; it remains to be seen if they will succeed in doing so.

Courting disaster

The most commonly-invoked point in McConnell’s favor is his shepherding through the Senate 226 Trump judicial nominees, including 54 federal appellate judges and three Supreme Court justices. But while the quantity of those confirmations is widely celebrated on the Right, their caliber has gone largely overlooked.

Among the judges nominated by Trump and approved by McConnell’s Senate were Charles Goodwin and Robert Colville, who are pro-abortion. There are also Patrick Bumatay and Mary Rowland, who were previously members of LGBT advocacy groups; and Michael Bogren, who as an attorney had represented the City of Lansing, Michigan’s, efforts to ban Christian farm owners from its local farmers’ market over their refusal to host same-sex “weddings.” With the exception of Bogren, who withdrew his nomination under pressure, all were easily confirmed.

Trump’s first two Supreme Court appointees received far more scrutiny from senators, but were still approved despite raising red flags from an originalist perspective.

Justice Neil Gorsuch, who went on to pen the notorious Bostock ruling that rewrote the 1964 Civil Rights Act to accommodate “sexual orientation” and “gender identity,” told senators that the Obergefell ruling’s redefinition of marriage is “absolutely settled law” and that judges should start every case with a “heavy, heavy presumption in favor of precedent,” which should only be overturned in “a very few cases.”

Justice Brett Kavanaugh also expressed deference for judicial precedent such as Roe v. Wade and Obergefell, to the point where liberal Republican Sen. Susan Collins expressly based her vote to confirm him on her confidence that he would vote to uphold both left-wing rulings, but such concerns were largely overshadowed by the baseless last-minute rape claims made against Kavanaugh.

While the primary responsibility for selecting quality judicial nominees of course rests with the president, the constitutional duty to give “advice and consent” to those nominees means the Senate and its leaders also have a responsibility to review the president’s selections to assess their character, competence, and judicial philosophy.

China connections

Perhaps the most explosive charge in Trump’s response is his reference to the McConnell family’s “substantial Chinese business holding.” It concerns the Foremost Group, a shipping company founded by McConnell’s father-in-law James Chao. McConnell’s wife, Elaine Chao, served as Trump’s Secretary of Transportation.

“The Chao family are deeply embedded commercially and financially with the Chinese government,” says Peter Schweizer, president of the Government Accountability Institute. “The Chinese government essentially set them up in the shipping business. Their ships — these are large cargo ships that transport a large amount of goods around the Pacific.” The Chinese government pays for the construction of these ships, as well as provides their crew and contracts.

“Business in China is done with a political purpose,” he continues. “The China State Shipbuilding Corporation is controlled by the government, by the Communist Party, and they do business deals with people in the West with the expectation that they will get things in return.”

“That’s why it’s not just a story of a political family getting wealthy off of a foreign government,” Schweizer warns. “It is a very serious question about the decisions that are being made by Elaine Chao as the transportation secretary, but also as Mitch McConnell is the Senate majority leader. The suggestion here is that the Chinese government hopes that by striking these deals with the Chao family over the years and making them wealthy, that they are going to, in a sense, encourage Elaine Chao and Mitch McConnell to make decisions that are favorable to them. That’s what I think the concern is here, and I think on a whole host of issues, there seems to be at least circumstantial evidence that they have been very pro-China in their policy prescriptions.”

When Democrat Amy McGrath raised these issues in an ad for Kentucky’s U.S. Senate race last year, McConnell campaign manager Kevin Golden did not address the substance of the accusations but called the attack “racist,” claiming it would not have been run “if Elaine Chao was born in Europe.”

Establishment darling

Despite all of the above, McConnell’s support among the Right’s more establishmentarian institutions remains unshakeable. “His achievements are legion,” Republican strategist Karl Rove writes in the Wall Street Journal, “including skillfully maneuvering Mr. Trump’s legislative accomplishments and judicial appointments through the Senate.”

While claiming McConnell’s aforementioned Chinese business holdings are “nonexistent,” National Review’s editors declare the minority leader “canny, tough-minded,” “willing to play the long game in advancing the interests of the Republican Party and of conservatism,” and “genuinely interested in building up his party, rather than tearing it down if he doesn’t get his way.”

Catholics must speak up when shepherds contradict the Gospel

February 18, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — Sometimes I wonder how Terry Barber does it. Currently, he’s the co-host of The Bishop Strickland Hour on Virgin Most Powerful Radio. He’s also been involved with, for more than forty years, grassroots Catholic apologetics. He helped found The Catholic Resource CenterSt. Joseph Communications, and Lighthouse Catholic Media.

I welcomed Terry on my podcast today and I quickly remembered that it’s his deep and profound love for Jesus Christ and his Church that motivates him to do what he does every second of the day. As you’ll see in his interview, he has an infectious positivity.

Terry and I spoke about the importance of defending the Church’s perennial teachings. He revealed to me that on more than one occasion, he’s had run ins with priests and even some bishops because they veered off course. He said he couldn’t sit idly by as they did that. He’s dissapointed at the way liberal and pro-LGBT clergy are allowed to spread their beliefs and go unpunished.

Terry believes it’s the duty of the laity to speak up and defend the Church in these times, even when the Pope says something contray to the Gospel. Rather than run away from the Church, Terry wants lay Catholics to “call out” the shepherds who are not doing their job. They should do this but not in a disrespectful way, he told me, but rather, in an honest, charitable way.
