UK pastor violently arrested for ‘homophobic statements’ while reading from Bible

Police interrogated 71-year-old John Sherwood about his attitudes on homosexuality and what he would do if he had a gay child.

LONDON, May 4, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – An elderly British pastor was arrested last week and forced to spend a night in a London jail after passers-by complained that his preaching from the Bible on marriage and the family was “insulting.”

John Sherwood, a 71-year-old pastor of the Penn Free Methodist Church, was preaching outside of Uxbridge railway station in the northwest of London on the Biblical definition of marriage when police confronted him.

The authorities had received a number of complaints about Sherwood’s preaching that day, claiming the pastor had made “homophobic” comments as he preached on Genesis 1, saying “God’s design in creating mankind was to set human beings in families, headed by a father and a mother, not by two fathers or by two mothers. The distinction within mankind of just two genders, male and female, made in the image of God, constitutes the essence of God’s created order.”

The police confronted Sherwood, accusing him of causing “alarm and distress.” The 35-year veteran preacher dialogued with the authorities before continuing to address the crowd, turning his attention to the freedom of speech, Christian Concern reported.

As he resumed speaking, two bystanders, one who identified as bisexual and the other as lesbian, reportedly heckled Sherwood, declaring his preaching to be “homophobic” and “hate speech.” This prompted the police to take statements after which they violently tore the Bible from Sherwood’s hands and dragged the septuagenarian from the stool upon which he was preaching in order to place him under arrest.

The police took Sherwood into custody under suspicion of a breach of Section 5 of the Public Order Act, which lays out a broad description of “harassment,” including the use of “insulting words or behaviour … thereby causing … harassment, alarm or distress.”

Although Sherwood was later released without charge, an offense against the Public Order Act carries with it the possibility of a six-month prison sentence and an unlimited fine.

The Metropolitan Police later released a statement about the arrest, announcing that “The Met's Directorate of Professional Standards (DPS) have since assessed the footage and found no indication of misconduct. The arrest will not be subject to a full DPS review,” closing the door to any investigative report on policing standards.

Sherwood defended his actions, claiming that he was not making “homophobic” comments, rather he was simply “defining marriage as a relationship between a man and a woman,” according to a report in the Daily Mail

“I was only saying what the Bible says – I wasn't wanting to hurt anyone or cause offence. I was doing what my job description says, which is to preach the gospel in open air as well as in a church building.”

Sherwood explained to police that by preaching from the Bible he was exercising religious liberty as well as his conscience. Subsequently, “I was forcibly pulled down from the steps and suffered some injury to my wrist and to my elbow. I do believe I was treated shamefully. It should never have happened,” Sherwood said.

A spokesman for London’s Metropolitan Police told Premier Christian News that “At 13:35hrs on Friday, 23 April, officers on patrol were flagged down by a member of the public who made them aware of a man allegedly making homophobic comments close to Uxbridge Underground Station.”

“A number of other people also approached the officers with concerns about the man's language.”

“Officers spoke with the 71-year-old man and he was subsequently arrested on suspicion of an offence under Section 5 of the Public Order Act.”

Sherwood revealed that he was left bruised by the arrest and that, while in police custody, he was quizzed on his attitude toward gay people and how he would react to having homosexual children.

“The question was irrelevant to the allegation against me. I said I would seek to bring them to Christ, but of course I would love them no matter what, because they're my children,” Sherwood responded.

Sherwood’s colleague, Peter Simpson, who was preaching alongside Sherwood, argued that police officers should be focused on asking questions “about the specific alleged offence” in a case, “not more general questions about why someone holds a personal view on an aspect of Biblical morality” in an article published by The Conservative Woman.

Simpson wrote that the police told him that “some matters,” namely concerning sexual ethics, “simply cannot be referred to in public places, because there is no freedom to make statements which offend people.”

Highlighting the hypocrisy of the authorities regarding the application of this standard, Simpson responded that “the police would have no objection whatsoever to a Pride parade being held in Uxbridge, yet that would be highly offensive to Bible-believing Christians.” Simpson related that the officer he spoke with “did not appear to appreciate the logic behind this argument” before adding that “there is no law stating that people have a right never to be offended.”

Concluding his statement, Simpson noted that the arrest “of a faithful minister for doing nothing other than declaring what the Bible teaches about one of the important moral issues of our time reveals a dangerous assault upon freedom of speech and, not least, upon the freedom of Christian pastors to declare in public all that the Bible teaches.”

“The State has no right to designate that some parts of God’s word are no-go areas,” he declared.

Andrea Williams, the Christian Legal Centre’s chief executive, weighed in on Sherwood’s arrest: “Street preaching has a long and honoured history in the UK. In many ways it is symbolic of the kind of freedoms we have treasured in this nation. So to see a 75-year-old (sic) pastor arrested in such a manner for preaching the Gospel (sic) in London is deeply concerning.”

“The laws to protect the freedom to preach in public are very strong. Sadly, what we are seeing all too often is police officers who are quick to arrest at the first suggestion that a member of the public is offended because of the prevailing cancel culture.”

May 4, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – Facebook has just permanently banned LifeSiteNews’ Facebook page. This apparently is not a temporary measure: It is gone for good.

Image

In a quick series of notices and emails to LifeSiteNews’ marketing department, Facebook delivered the shocking news, accusing LifeSite of publishing “false information about COVID-19 that could contribute to physical harm.”

Facebook also said that they deplatform Facebook pages that publish “vaccine discouraging information on the platform.”

Image

Facebook cited an article posted on April 10, 2021, headlined “COVID vaccines can be deadly for some.”

“Much like when LifeSite was removed from YouTube, this comes with little surprise,” noted LifeSiteNews Marketing Director Rebekah Roberts. “We have known this day was coming for months now.”

“Facebook has been silencing any voice that goes against their beliefs and agenda,” continued Roberts. “Our LifeSiteNews Facebook page has been removed simply because we have shared reports of doctors, nurses, expert researchers, and even the former Pfizer VP speaking out against the COVID shots. We’ve also been tagged for the numerous articles we have shared making the connection between the COVID shots, and really all vaccines, and aborted baby cell lines.”

“This all comes down to another case of Big Tech silencing free speech on their platform,” she added.

“At this time, I encourage those of you who are still on Facebook, Twitter, and other Big Tech platforms to continue sharing LifeSiteNews articles with your friends and family, please!” urged Roberts. “I also encourage you to follow us on these alternative platforms:”

LONDON, May 4, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – British health secretary Matt Hancock, who has presided over the country’s harsh lockdown regime, has taken initial steps to legalize assisted suicide in the UK.

Hancock wrote to Office of National Statistics (ONS) head Sir Ian Diamond, asking for data “to inform the debate” about doctor-assisted suicide two weeks ago, The Telegraph reported. The secretary also met with MPs to discuss the issue, the outlet said.

Hancock reportedly told the All Party Parliamentary Group for Choice at the End of Life that he was interested in data about Britons who leave the country to kill themselves in foreign doctor-assisted suicide clinics. Hancock, who previously opposed legalization efforts, claimed to have switched his stance, saying that “views of this do change.”

The parliamentary group supporting assisted suicide, led by Cabinet minister Andrew Mitchell, is calling for a referendum on the matter as soon as 2024.

At the meeting with Hancock, Mitchell said the group wanted a “tightly drawn” policy to authorize the killing of someone who wishes to be “put to sleep” to avoid pain. The proposal would require the agreement of two doctors that the person has six months to live, as well as authorization from a high court judge.

Other MPs, however, have pushed back strongly on the pro-death campaign. “Once you have conceded, legally, the right of some people to request official help to kill themselves, that right quickly becomes universal,” MP Daniel Kruger wrote in a recent essay.

In Belgium and the Netherlands, “(l)aws which were supposed to limit euthanasia to mentally competent terminally ill adults now allow the euthanasia of non-mentally competent adults, disabled children aged under 12 months, disabled adults, and even those with treatable psychiatric problems,” he said.

“If you ‘may’ terminate your life because it is not worth living, surely you ‘ought’ to do so?” the Conservative MP continued. “And if you ‘ought’ to do so, surely others should encourage you to do the right thing? And if you won’t, surely the state should compel you to do so?”

Kruger emphasized that palliative care offered a “far better solution” than the “dystopia” of euthanasia and announced that he and like-minded colleagues were launching a new group to fight attempts to change the law. The same day, 70 MPs and peers signed a letter to the Lord Chancellor Robert Buckland, outlining “grave concerns about the renewed calls to change the law on assisted suicide and euthanasia.”

“We do not consider that a new inquiry into this complex and emotive subject is warranted,” they said, noting that Parliament had rejected legalization of assisted suicide by more than 200 votes in 2015. “The matter has been extensively investigated since the 2004 inquiry led by the former Lord Chancellor Lord Mackay,” they added.

“Euthanasia is, sadly, the natural destination for a law allowing assisted suicide, which replaces what we have now – a law based on the rational and widely-accepted principle that we do not involve ourselves in deliberately bringing about the deaths of others – with a law based on artificial and arbitrary criteria like a prognosis of terminal illness,” the letter continued.

Doctors who assist in a patient’s suicide in the U.K. can face up to 14 years in prison. The British health system nevertheless has won international condemnation for its radical end-of-life practices that led to the recent killings of 2-year-old Alfie Evans and an unnamed Polish man known as RS. An estimated tens of thousands of deaths due to starvation or dehydration have occurred in British hospitals since 2000.

Meanwhile, in Ontario, a doctor recently spoke out about how elderly patients are losing the will to live thanks to draconian lockdowns that have forced them into isolation. Some are requesting assisted suicide, she said.

Report: Biden admin mulls using private orgs to spy on Americans in Facebook groups

It's illegal for law enforcement to gather information under false pretenses and so using outside sources would be a way to infiltrate 'domestic extremists.'

WASHINGTON, D.C., May 4, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – The Biden administration is reportedly interested in contracting with private firms to collect information on Americans supposedly involved with “extremist groups” in an apparent effort to circumvent legal limits on the government’s ability to spy on American citizens.

CNN reported that a “source familiar with” the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS’s) efforts to monitor “domestic extremists” via their social media activity has discussed working with outside entities that could legally join private groups on platforms such as Facebook under false pretenses, then collect data on those groups and turn it over to DHS.

The government would analyze that data to assess “narratives” that it claims could lead to violence – i.e., political views, assertions, or theories declared beyond the pale by those currently in control of the executive branch. "What do you do about ideology that's leading to violence? Do you have to wait until it leads to violence?" a former senior intelligence official said.

Such partnerships would effectively be an end-run around the legal prohibition against federal agents joining such groups under false pretenses for the purposes of intelligence-gathering, which critics suspect is a pretext to persecute the Biden administration’s political foes. Judicial precedent allows illegally-obtained evidence to be used in court only if it was obtained by a private citizen not acting as an agent of law enforcement.

DHS denied the report as “blatantly false” in a statement, insisting it is “not partnering with private firms to surveil suspected domestic terrorists online" and that its current activities are “done consistent with the Constitution and other applicable law, and in close coordination with our privacy and civil liberties experts.”

Despite that denial, one DHS official told CNN that the department is “exploring with our lawyers, civil rights, civil liberties and privacy colleagues, how we can make use of outside expertise.”

"There's a tension between wanting to empower (DHS's intelligence office) to do this kind of work around domestic terrorism on the one hand and then on the other hand the misuse of its capabilities during the summer of 2020, gives a lot of people on the Hill pause (about) potentially giving them new authorities, capabilities or resources," said an unidentified Senate aide, referring to the government’s violations of the privacy rights of journalists and innocent civilians over the course of its response to left-wing riots in Portland, Oregon last summer.

Such drastic measures are predicated on claims that the January 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol was fueled in part by conservatives questioning the accuracy of the 2020 presidential election results. Despite dramatic rhetoric that the riot constituted an “insurrection,” most of the individuals arrested for their participation have only been charged with non-violent misdemeanors such as trespassing.

Nevertheless, many on the Left have cited the riot as a justification for further restrictions of conservative speech on social media and stigmatization of political positions the establishment deems beyond the pale.

NEW YORK, May 4, 2021 (C-Fam) – Under the guise of addressing HIV/AIDS, UN agencies and Western-backed non-government groups called on governments to legalize drug use, and prostitution. This occurred during a General Assembly consultation last week where they also called for sexual autonomy for children.

Even though HIV/AIDS infections have gone down globally since 2005, the HIV/AIDS pandemic is still ravaging “key populations,” which include men who have sex with men, persons who identify as transgender, and drug users. According to UN estimates, 54% of 1.7 million new infections in the world each year take place among key populations.

“The struggle to end AIDS is linked with the struggle to end human rights violations, including discrimination and violence against women and girls, as well as the marginalization and criminalization of people living with HIV and of key populations,” said Winifred Karagwa Byanyim, Executive Director of the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS).

“It’s sex workers, it’s people who use drugs, it’s gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men, and it’s transgender people and other groups like prisoners,” she emphasized.

The UNAIDS program has a large influence on how international aid to address HIV/AIDS is spent, including the nearly $7 billion dollars U.S. taxpayers give each year through their taxes.

Speakers at the General Assembly event included carefully selected leaders of Western-backed non-governmental organizations like International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF).

“I feel part of a collective failure, a collective failure to ensure adolescent girls and young women in all of their diversity, the LGBTQI, and other key populations can access quality, integrated services, that respond to their rights and health needs,” said Alvaro Bermejo, Director General of International Planned Parenthood Federation.

Bermejo was transparent about the challenges to his own organization, which claims to deliver over 40 million HIV/AIDS services annually in developing countries.

“So we see that in many countries, adolescent girls and young women are coming to get their contraception and a year later are returning with an HIV infection,” he said. Bermejo laid the blame for this failure on opposition to comprehensive sexuality education, of which IPPF is the largest international provider.

“We need to be aware that we are facing an opposition, a conservative opposition, a populist opposition, that is opposing comprehensive sexuality education, and that is better organized, better financed, and more aggressive than it has ever been.”

Other speakers also broadened the focus of HIV/AIDS treatment to other social policies.

Julian Boghos Kerboghossian of the LGBT organization MPact Global called on countries to “Repeal laws that criminalize HIV non-disclosure, exposure, transmission, consensual same-sex behavior, expression, drug use, sex work.”

Ms. Faith Ebere Onu of the Association of Persons Living with HIV and Aids in Nigeria called for the provision of “safe abortion” and the repeal of “restrictive age of consent laws.”

The consultation was held ahead of the High-Level Meeting of the General Assembly on HIV/AIDS to take place June 8 to 10. The summit takes place every five years to adopt an agreement to guide the UN system-wide HIV/AIDS response.

Toronto archdiocese advises Catholic school board against flying gay pride flag

The archdiocese said that the cross of Christ is the Christian symbol that best expresses 'inclusion and acceptance.'

TORONTO, Ontario, May 4, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — The Archdiocese of Toronto, led by Cardinal Thomas Collins, released a statement today advising the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) against flying the rainbow “Pride” flag at its schools in June.

“Parents make a clear choice when they decide that their children will attend a Catholic school. They rightly expect that trustees, principals, teachers — all partners in education — will ensure that Catholic teaching is presented, lived and infused in all that we do,” the May 4 letter states (read full letter here).

The letter comes in the wake of the TCDSB’s newly-established “2SLGBTQ+ Advisory Committee” recommending that the board proclaim June as Pride month and that the Pride flag be raised “at the Catholic Education Centre and at all schools in the system.” Declaring June as Pride month “implores us to be compassionate, welcoming, and inclusive of marginalized people, including 2SLGBTQ+, as an example of our faith in action,” the pro-LGBT Committee states in its report that is included on the agenda for the upcoming May 6 meeting where the matter is expected to come to a vote.

The letter from the archdiocese makes it clear, however, that the cross is the Christian symbol that best expresses “inclusion and acceptance.”

“In that regard, the appropriate symbol that represents our faith, and the inclusion and acceptance of others, is the cross, which is visible at the entrance of every Catholic school. It is the primary symbol of our Christian faith: it draws us to contemplate the generous and sacrificial love of Jesus, as he lays down his life for all of us,” the letter states.

“The cross outside of Catholic schools and any Catholic church, hospital or institution, signals our commitment that all who enter the building are welcomed and loved in their beauty and uniqueness as children of God,” the letter adds.

The archdiocese points out that given the number of groups working to advocate for many diverse causes, many school boards “wisely fly only the Canadian flag out of a sense of equity for all.”

The letter challenges pro-LGBT sympathizers who hold that only in raising the Pride flag will students who identify as homosexual or transgender feel welcomed and accepted at Catholic schools.

“There is a belief among some that unless one embraces secular symbols, one cannot be inclusive or accepting. This is simply not true. Where there are cases of injustice and mistreatment of any student, whether they are bullied or rejected due to their sexual orientation, appearance, race, sex or any other reason, we must seize the moment, address the situation and ensure that we lead by example, as we foster a culture of care and love for every individual,” the letter states.

“That truth is perfectly represented in our most fundamental Catholic symbol: the cross,” it adds.

The archdiocese emphasized that Catholic schools can expect that adherence to Catholic teaching will make them “clash” with secular society that often holds moral positions that are at odds with God’s revelation.

“We also recognize that there are times when the presentation of Catholic teaching will clash with the views held by many in society, whether these relate to human sexuality, the sanctity of life, issues of social justice or other deeply held beliefs,” the letter states.

“Those who are faithful to these teachings are often ridiculed, mocked and excluded. Frequently, since the time of Jesus, Christian teaching has not aligned with currently prevailing opinions,” it adds.

In a letter included on the agenda for the May 6 meeting, Cardinal Collins specifically called on the TCDSB to dedicate the month of June to honoring the Sacred Heart of Jesus. He pointed out that no one is excluded from the love that emanates from the Sacred Heart of Jesus. “Sometimes, Jesus points to the Sacred Heart, inviting us to come to him when we labour and are heavy laden; sometimes the arms of Jesus reach outward, welcoming everyone, as he calls us to do. The Sacred Heart is a sign of the love of Jesus, which we are invited to imitate. More than ever before, our world now needs the love symbolized by the Sacred Heart of Jesus,” he wrote.

Teresa Pierre, president of Parents as First Educators, called the Archdiocese’s letter “good news.”

“The statement approves of flying only the Canadian flag as a prudent way to keep the school boards out of battles over diverse causes,” she wrote in an email to parents. “The Cardinal says the cross indicates inclusion and acceptance for all, and that no other secular symbols besides the cross are necessary for Catholic institutions.”

Pierre is asking concerned parents to write to all TCDSB trustees and “urge them to vote the right way on May 6th, and to vote against flying the Pride Flag during the month of June.”

“Voting to raise a secular symbol over a Catholic school violates the choice of parents who send their children to schools where they can expect things will be done in a Catholic way,” she said.

New Jersey Catholic high school promotes alumna’s homosexual ‘wedding’

Immaculate Heart Academy, which is owned and operated by the Archdiocese of Newark, published a magazine promoting the homosexual ‘marriage’ of one of its former students

BERGEN COUNTY, New Jersey, May 4, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – Immaculate Heart Academy, an all-girls Catholic high school owned by the Archdiocese of Newark, is promoting an alumna’s “marriage” to another woman.

Newark’s Cardinal Joseph Tobin has a history of promoting homosexuality and heterodoxy. In 2017, Tobin personally welcomed actively homosexual “pilgrims” to his cathedral. In a 2019 interview, Tobin called the Catholic Church’s teaching on homosexuality “unfortunate” and “hurtful.”

In its 2021 Winter magazine, Immaculate Heart Academy published updates on various alumni. Page 41 of the magazine features a short blub about a former student, Cristin Keegan, who recently entered into a “marriage” with another woman, Kate Disare. The magazine also published one of their “wedding” photos.

“We were fortunate enough to have several IHA alumnae join us for the celebration…” Keegan told the magazine. She continued to name various alumni who partook in her “wedding.”

On its website, Immaculate Heart Academy states that its mission is to “provide quality Catholic education to young women in an atmosphere characterized by respect for the individual, Christian community, and a high level of family involvement.”

“By both cultivating the traditional Christian values of the Roman Catholic Church and upholding exceptional college preparatory standards, IHA offers a unique and unmatched private educational experience,” the website advertises.

The Catholic Church teaches that marriage is a lifelong sacrament between one man and one woman ordered toward the procreation and education of children. It also teaches that homosexual acts are one of the four sins that cry to heaven for justice. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states that “basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, tradition has always declared that ‘homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered’. They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.” (CCC 2357)

The Catholic Church further teaches that the homosexual inclination is also “objectively disordered,” since God created sexual attraction for the purpose of drawing a man and a woman together to become husband and wife in marriage. In other words, the Catholic Churches teaches that God does not make anyone a homosexual.

LifeSiteNews reached out to the Archdiocese of Newark and the school for a comment regarding the publication and promotion of homosexual “marriage.”

The archdiocese claimed that the magazine is under the jurisdiction of the school (which the archdiocese owns and operates), and they have nothing to do with its publication. In a telephone interview, the director of communications for the Archdiocese of Newark, Maria Margiotta, told LifeSiteNews that the Academy’s newsletter “has nothing to do with me.”

Meanwhile, John O’Neil, associate superintendent for Catholic schools in the Newark diocese,  told LifeSiteNews that he was not aware that homosexual “wedding” was promoted in the magazine.

Neither Margiotta nor O’Neil has responded to LifeSite’s additional questions on whether the diocese will take action against the school for its clear defiance of Church teaching.

LifeSiteNews also reached out to Immaculate Heart Academy principal Jason Schlereth, but he failed to respond by the time of publication.

Commenting on the situation, Cardinal Newman Society President Patrick Reilly told LifeSiteNews, “The Vatican recently explained why the Church cannot bless sin – and neither should Catholic education celebrate it.”

“The clear teaching of the Church” is “the foundation of any authentic Catholic education,” he added.

May 4, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – As students plan to commence or continue studies at university this fall, over 100 U.S. institutions so far have announced that attendance on campus will only be permitted to those who have taken one of the experimental vaccines for COVID-19.

Surveys from both CNN and the New York Times suggest that more than 100 colleges and universities across the U.S. will require students to be “fully vaccinated” against the coronavirus come fall, should they wish to avail themselves of classes in person. Some of the colleges behind the vaccine push are Drew University, the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, Washington State University, DePaul University, Emory University, the University of Maryland, and Wesleyan University. The University of Portland is reported to require students, faculty, and staff to have taken the vaccine before returning to campus.

A handful of colleges, instead of mandating vaccines, are offering incentives to those who elect to take one of the experimental jabs. The Times reported that Christian-based universities Baylor, Texas, and Calvin, Michigan, are to offer exemptions to mandatory COVID testing for “fully vaccinated” students. The University of Wyoming, on the other hand, will incentivize vaccination by entering vaccinated students into weekly draws for prizes “such as tickets to football or basketball games and Apple products,” and giving vaccinated staff members an extra day off of work.

It was Rutgers University that got the ball rolling when President Jonathan Holloway demanded in March that “all students planning to attend in the Fall 2021 semester must be fully vaccinated.” Holloway’s announcement was swiftly followed by Ivy League university Cornell, which announced similar impositions for its student body.

Both Rutgers and Cornell have issued a proviso for students refusing to vaccinate on medical or religious grounds, affording such students an exemption from the otherwise strict requirement. Many of the other institutions have promised relaxations to the stipulation on similar grounds.

Catholic universities, too, are compelling students to take the abortion-tainted vaccines in order to return to campus, with Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, announcing last month that all students returning to campus for the fall 2021 semester will be required, with the prior mentioned exceptions, “to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.”

Fr. John Jenkins, the president of Notre Dame, declared that the vaccination requirement is being imposed because the “safety of the University and local communities is always our highest priority.”

In addition to requiring students be vaccinated against the coronavirus, a pathogen with an average infection fatality rate of 0.15%, Notre Dame has also opened its own vaccination “clinic” to offer injections with Pfizer’s experimental mRNA jab against COVID-19 to students.

In like manner, St. John’s University, a Catholic college in New York, “will require all students to be vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus and to provide proof of vaccination before returning to campus for the fall semester.”

The university, headed by Dominican friar Father Brian J. Shanley, O.P, has offered students an opportunity to get the Pfizer jab on campus “free of charge,” and Shanley has accompanied the rollout with a message to “personally encourage” all students “to get vaccinated at your earliest convenience,” despite its connection to abortion and the danger of fatal side effects.

Recently, Bishop Thomas Paprocki and Notre Dame Law School professor Gerard Bradley published an editorial affirming Notre Dame’s — and by extension, at least all Catholic universities’ — moral “obligation to respect each person’s right to make their own healthcare decisions, to freely act upon their conscientious convictions and what is genuinely fair to everyone concerned.”

In contrast to Notre Dame’s policy, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in its December note “concluded that persons may — not must — get vaccinated,” Bishop Paprocki and Bradley emphasized. Their choice in this regard “must be truly consensual.” This principle of self-determination “is the moral norm governing all medical treatment” and is “especially salient in the present circumstance” for several reasons.

The experience of Notre Dame, Paprocki and Bradley observed, confirms the broader data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), according to which the COVID-19 survival rates for those under 20 years of age are 99.997%, and for those between 20 and 50 years old, 99.98%.

In other words, COVID-19 is essentially an “irrelevant” threat to virtually all of the students at Notre Dame who are subject to this mandate. Indeed, as the statistics show, for those under 70 years of age, influenza is a more dangerous infection.

Thus, Paprocki and Bradly affirm, “college-age students who test positive rarely experience severe symptoms. Many are entirely asymptomatic,” and “the Notre Dashboard, for example, reports no hospitalizations so far for COVID-19 pneumonia.”

As a result, many Notre Dame students, according to Paprocki and Bradley, will “reasonably judge that they risk more from the vaccine than they do from the coronavirus, especially since the vaccines would protect them only from the severe symptoms (or death) that are scarcely real risks for them. In fact, for a low-risk person like the typical Notre Dame student, the chance of a severe reaction to the vaccine is several times higher than the chance of having one after contracting COVID. Notre Dame should respect these students’ voluntary choices.”

Alberta gov’t. brings up ‘risky’ act of singing in church in trial against jailed pastor

When Pastor James Coates took the stand, he noted that his church is ‘commanded to sing’ as a primary means in how his congregation worships.

EDMONTON, Alberta, May 4, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — During the first day of the trial of Canadian Pastor James Coates — who was jailed for over a month for defying lockdown orders — the provincial crown used as evidence against Coates video shot by a health inspector of people engaging in what she called the “risky” act of singing in his church.

The video evidence from December 2020 was presented despite the fact church elders at Coates’ Grace Life Church had warned the health inspector that it is an offense under Canadian law to disrupt a church service.

Section 176(2) of the “Criminal Code of Canada” bans interrupting or disturbing a religious service.

According to Coates’ legal counsel, the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms (JCCF), the Crown called its only witness in the first day of his trial, Janine Hanrahan.

The JCCF says she is an “Alberta Health Services (AHS) bureaucrat who inspected the church over many Sundays from November 2020 through to February 2021.”

“Ms Hanrahan stated she went to the church balcony to count how many people were in the sanctuary, and video-recorded church members singing in worship. She further testified that Grace Life Elders told her and the RCMP it is an offence under the Criminal Code to disrupt a church service,” noted the JCCF.

The JCCF said its lawyer Leighton Grey, who represents Coates and Grace Life, cross-examined Hanrahan to ask he why she “took RCMP officers with her to the church.”

“Notes from an RCMP officer indicate that Ms. Hanrahan told police that she feared being harmed by going to the church but admitted on the stand that she did not have concerns that someone from church would harm her. Ms. Hanrahan then said that bringing the RCMP was because of media attention,” said the JCCF.

Grey asked Hanrahan if she was told by her employer that “singing was a risky behavior.”

To this question, Hanrahan replied “yes,” explaining the “the science made sense” to her.

Grey then told her that she wrote something “odd” in her notes, saying that “clapping/cheering for RCMP at Grace Life could lead to covid spread.”

Hanrahan replied that she thought this was true, going onto state that she was not told by AHS to think this way, and that it was her “own” theory, and she did not read any studies stating if singing in a church was proven to be “risky.”

Regarding Hanrahan’s comments, the JCCF said, “In other words, Ms. Hanrahan simply believes whatever AHS tells her.”

“Ms. Hanrahan confirmed that she received no additional training at all from AHS once the pandemic hit. She has been provided with no scientific data or even a basic understanding of the risk of contagion.  She testified that she simply follows what she is told by AHS because it is ‘the law.’ She also testified that she does not trust any other sources of information besides AHS. She further admitted that her calculations concerning the total capacity of the church were based upon assumptions, and therefore could be wrong,” said the JCCF.

My church is “commanded to sing”

When Coates took the stand, he noted that his church is “commanded to sing” as a primary means in how his congregation worships.

According to the JCCF, Coates stated to the court that virtual services would “alter what worshiping is and would constitute a major interference in their specific beliefs.”

Coates’ trial is continuing over the next few days. The court had granted “the Government’s request that Pastor Coates not be permitted to challenge the constitutional validity of Dr. Deena Hinshaw’s orders at the trial,” according to the JCCF.

Despite this, on Monday the JCCF noted that Judge Robert Shaigec ruled against the Crown, “saying that it has to be very clear that no Charter right breach could possibly be found, and that the rule is to permit evidence and argument regarding alleged Charter breaches.”

“He completely denied the Crown’s application, saying all of Pastor Coates’ alleged Charter rights violation arguments are fair game, and the defence can present evidence of them.”

The province of Alberta’s COVID health rules enacted under United Conservative Party (UCP) Premier Jason Kenney has capped church attendance size to 15 percent and mandated mask wearing and physical distancing.

On April 7, Grace Life was barricaded by police for defying coronavirus health rules. The church has now gone underground to worship.

May 4, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — Disney, the former go-to company celebrating the wonder and innocence of childhood, is now peddling toys and clothing for kids awash in rainbow colors as well as pro-homosexual and pro-transgender messaging.

“The countdown to Pride Month is on with a colorful array of Pride products available now!” announced Disney on Twitter. “Plus, The Walt Disney Company is giving funds as part of our ongoing commitment to organizations around the world that support LGBTQ+ communities.”

Among the organizations promoting homosexual and gender dysphoria that Disney is financing are GLSEN and the ‘It Gets Better Project,’ which affirm youth that consider themselves to be homosexual or to have a gender identity that is different from biological reality.

“From apparel to accessories to pins and plush and so much more, there are more items in this collection than there are colors in the rainbow!” wrote Anthony Armenia, Communications Manager, Disney Parks, Experience & Products, at the Disney Park Blog.

“Starting this month, the incredible diversity of our fans will also be celebrated around the world with products rolling out from licensees and retailers including Amazon, BoxLunch, Funko, Kohl’s, and Torrid, with more to come in Europe and Latin America,” continued Armenia.

The array of gay-themed Disney products is troubling. In addition to offering rainbow emblazoned apparel and sundries to adults, Disney is now peddling toys and clothing for kids awash in rainbow colors and messaging.

Plush Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse dolls dressed in rainbow duds are being sold by Disney, along with matching tees and face masks. “Perfect for a day at the parks,” claims Disney.

Lubbock, Texas becomes largest city in the US to pass abortion ban

Under the ordinance, surviving relatives of aborted preborn babies can sue abortion providers for compensatory damages, including for emotional distress.

LUBBOCK, Texas, May 4, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — Last week, voters in Lubbock, Texas, approved a ballot measure to ban abortion and allow relatives of aborted babies to sue abortion providers.

With more than 250,000 residents, Lubbock becomes the largest city in the United States to declare itself a “sanctuary city for the unborn,” and the 26th city overall to do so. Voters approved the ordinance by roughly 62% to 37%.

“It shall be unlawful for any person to procure or perform an abortion of any type and at any stage of pregnancy in the City of Lubbock, Texas,” the ordinance states. “It shall be unlawful for any person to knowingly aid or abet an abortion that occurs in the City of Lubbock, Texas.”

Under the policy, abortion providers could be penalized with “maximum penalty permitted under Texas law” for violation of city public health ordinance, though the measure includes life-of-the-mother exemptions.

“The victory is significant to many as the City of Lubbock is the 11th most populated city in the State of Texas and the 83rd most populated city in the United States,” wrote Mark Lee Dickson, director of Right to Life of East Texas and founder of the Sanctuary Cities for the Unborn Initiative. “Lubbock is also home to Texas Tech University, the seventh largest university by enrollment in the State of Texas,” he noted.

Last year, Mayor Dan Pope and the Lubbock city council voted against the “sanctuary city for the unborn” measure when it was brought up for hearing due to a citizen petition.

“Since the vote of the council was forced by the Initiative and Referendum process, this allowed for Lubbock residents to take the opportunity to get the ordinance on the ballot and to vote on the ordinance themselves on May 1, 2021,” Dickson explained.

Mayor Pope, who staunchly opposed the ordinance and compared Planned Parenthood centers to churches, wrote in a statement last week that “voters made it clear that Lubbock will become the next sanctuary city for the unborn.” Pope added that he and the city councilmen will “begin the process in adding the approved ordinance to the City of Lubbock Code of Ordinances.” The measure could take effect as early as June 1.

The public enforcement mechanism of the ordinance is dependent upon the overturning of Roe v. Wade, although it also contains an immediately enforceable private mechanism.

“Any person, corporation, or entity that commits an unlawful act… other than the mother of the unborn child that has been aborted, shall be liable in tort to the unborn child’s mother, father, grandparents, siblings and half-siblings,” the ordinance declares.

Surviving relatives of aborted preborn babies can sue abortion providers for compensatory damages, including for emotional distress, as well as for punitive damages.

The pro-life “sanctuary” movement in Lubbock gathered momentum last year after Planned Parenthood announced plans to open an abortion center in the city. State Sen. Charles Perry circulated a petition in response to the announcement, calling for people to “stand strong and send a clear message that the abortion industry should not set up shop in our backyard.”

Planned Parenthood opened in Lubbock in the fall and started aborting preborn babies on April 15, pushing pro-life advocates even harder. “They’re murdering babies here in our city,” Jim Baxa of West Texas for Life told the Texas Tribune last month. “We need to stop that.”

“Because the Lubbock Ordinance that outlaws abortion was passed after abortions were offered in Lubbock, this makes Lubbock the first city in the nation to pass an ordinance outlawing abortion in a city where abortions are already being committed,” Mark Dickson said.

He noted that Attorney Jonathan Mitchell, former Texas solicitor general, has offered to represent the city for free if Lubbock faces legal challenges due to the ordinance.

“In May 2020, when seven cities in East Texas that had passed the ordinance were sued by the ACLU, Mitchell represented the cities, and after three months, the ACLU withdrew its lawsuit. The lawsuit cost the cities and taxpayers nothing — and abortion remains outlawed in every city that was sued,” Dickson added.

Lubbock joins more than fifteen Texas cities that already have passed ordinance to ban abortion and designate themselves pro-life “sanctuaries.”

TALLAHASSEE, Florida, May 4, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — The Florida legislature passed a bill last Thursday regulating the state’s emergency powers if faced with any public health emergency in the future. Among other things, the bill bans compulsory COVID-19 vaccines for students.

“Thrilled to sign legislation that prohibits COVID-19 vaccine passports in Florida. Neither government, nor private businesses, will be able to condition your participation in everyday life on producing private health information,” Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) tweeted.

In early March, DeSantis signed an executive order banning both government entities and businesses from requiring proof of vaccinations. Now, the legislature helped turning this into law by passing SB 2006, which fortifies the ban and includes schools.

Schools in Florida already require certain vaccinations. However, State Rep. Tom Leek (R) told the Miami Herald that an experimental gene therapy COVID shot would not “have the same proven history of the same vaccines we require our school children to get. We must recognize that vaccine hesitancy is real and understandable.”

The law prevents schools, businesses, and government entities from requiring it. Violators can be fined up to $5,000.

“In Florida, your personal choice regarding vaccinations will be protected and no business or government entity will be able to deny you services based on your decision,” Gov. DeSantis said.

DeSantis is the first elected official in the country to take a hard stance against vaccine passports. “You have a right to participate in society without them asking you to divulge this type of health information like just to go to a movie, just to go to a ball game,’’ he told the Miami Herald. “Our Legislature has passed what I asked for, and I’ll be signing that very soon.”

Additionally, the law prohibits state and local governments from closing businesses “or keep students out of in-person instruction at Florida schools, except for hurricane emergencies, and caps all local emergency at seven-day increments,” a press release stated.

The governor is now in a position “to invalidate a local emergency order if it unnecessarily restricts individual rights or liberties.”

With guns drawn, FBI raids Alaska couple’s home looking for Nancy Pelosi’s laptop

May 4, 2021 (Alaska Watchman) – Paul and Marilyn Hueper, owners of Homer Inn & Spa, woke with a start at 9 a.m. April 28 when a dozen armed FBI agents kicked down their front door in an investigation associated with Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s stolen laptop, which was taken during the Jan. 6 siege of the nation’s Capitol.

Speaking April 29 to Kenai-based radio host Bob Bird of the Bird’s Eye View, Paul recalled that he was alarmed and shocked to come out of his bedroom with seven guns pointing at him and his wife.

“It was a little alarming when I turned around the corner,” Paul said. “The first thing they did was start barking out commandments.”

Ultimately, the couple was handcuffed and interrogated for the better part of three hours before being released. In the end, it was a case of mistaken identity.

The Huepers were in D.C. for the rally with President Trump, but they never came close to entering the Capitol, and certainly never took Pelosi’s laptop.

It appears the FBI were most interested in Marilyn. They had a photo of a woman wearing the same coat as her, and with a similar hairstyle. The photo was taken from Capitol building cameras, according to Marilyn, but beyond the hair and coat, there is little similarity between Marilyn and the woman photographed inside the Capitol.

Image

The entire saga, however, left the Huepers disoriented but determined to better understand and defend their personal liberties and those of their friends and neighbors.

Paul said he repeatedly asked to see a search warrant but was denied until two and a half hours had gone by. During that time, he was separated from his wife.

“We sat there really for the first hour, not knowing what’s going on,” Paul told the Bird’s Eye View. “They never offered for us to be comfortable,” he added, “It was very harshly done.”

Paul said the agents ransacked the house and left a huge hole in his front door, which they offered to replace.

Paul said he knew he was innocent of whatever they suspected of him and his wife, but that it was still “all pretty confusing.”

After more than an hour, the agents told him that the raid had to do with the Jan. 6 siege of the U.S. Capitol.

The Huepers were in D.C. but only to “peacefully protest.”

“That’s what we were there for,” he said, adding that they never broke any laws. In fact, Paul said they never entered the Capitol building and were “at most a hundred yards away” from the entrance.

Agents showed Paul a photo of the woman who did enter the Capitol and asked if that was his wife.

“They had the same coat on,” he told Bird, but said the face of the woman was quite different from his wife’s. “My wife is much better looking than that,” he said.

While separated from her husband, Marilyn was told why the agents were at their home.

“They said, ‘We’re here for Nancy Pelosi’s laptop,” she recalled. “So, I guess it was stolen and it is still at large.”

The agents then claimed that they had positively identified Marilyn as being in the Capitol building and that they wanted to know who she was working with.

Marilyn said she tried to be respectful but couldn’t help but laugh.

She asked to see some identification, at which point agents quickly flashed their badges.

“I couldn’t read it fast enough to know what it was,” she said of the badges. She then asked to see a warrant and was told that she “would get to see it” later.

When repeatedly told she was the woman in the photo, Marilyn responded by saying “I would like to know how I split myself into two locations because I didn’t know I had this power.”

The first photo agents showed her was very fuzzy and depicted a woman wearing a similar coat with a similar hairstyle. They then showed her a photo of the woman’s face.

She told them, “Oh that’s obviously not me. Why didn’t you show me that photo to start with?” The woman in the photo has detached earlobes – Marilyn’s are attached, she said. Plus, the woman was wearing a sweater that Marilyn said, “You couldn’t pay me to wear.”

The agents suggested that she was lying and not cooperating, she told Bird.

At no point was the couple read their Miranda rights or charged with any crime, and the agents left after three hours without offering an apology. They also took Marilyn’s phones and laptop, she said.

Both Huepers say the whole ordeal has revealed just how little they know about their legal rights when dealing with the government.

“We really need to understand our latitude of choices,” Marilyn said. This is especially true when you see guns pointed at you and “you don’t want to disappoint them,” she said.

Marilyn said the raid has inspired her to know her rights.

“A lot of us have fallen down on the job,” she said of the duty to know and understand basic civil liberties. “The ball lies squarely in our court.”

Paul agreed, saying he feels “invigorated” to stand up for his personal liberties.

“This energizes me to take the right next step,” he said. “This fires me up to take care of my business as a citizen to do what’s right.”

Bishop dismantles Notre Dame’s ‘immoral’ policy mandating COVID vaccination

Moral norms dictate that injections must be voluntary, and students can ‘reasonably judge that they risk more from the vaccine than they do from the coronavirus.’

SOUTH BEND, Indiana, May 4, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — Bishop Thomas Paprocki and Notre Dame Law School professor Gerard Bradley have criticized last month’s announcement by the University of Notre Dame that the school would require “all students” to subject themselves to injections of experimental COVID-19 gene-therapy vaccines “as a condition of enrollment for the 2021–22 academic year.”

Paprocki, who serves as both the bishop of the Diocese of Springfield, Illinois, and as an adjunct professor of law at Notre Dame Law School, affirmed with Bradley the university’s moral “obligation to respect each person’s right to make their own healthcare decisions, to freely act upon their conscientious convictions and what is genuinely fair to everyone concerned.”

Their editorial, titled “COVID vaccines at Notre Dame,” appeared in The Observer, a student-run daily newspaper, and framed the argument largely according to a Vatican doctrinal “Note” released by the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF) last December. The Note addressed moral objections to using these “vaccines,” which are tainted in their production or testing with the cells derived from children directly killed by abortion several decades ago.

In contrast to Notre Dame’s policy, the “CDF concluded that persons may — not must — get vaccinated,” Bishop Paprocki and Bradley emphasized. Their choice in this regard “must be truly consensual.” This principle of self-determination “is the moral norm governing all medical treatment” and is “especially salient in the present circumstance” for several reasons.

The CDF’s Note had concluded, “In the absence of other means to stop or even prevent the epidemic … when ethically irreproachable Covid-19 vaccines are not available, it is morally acceptable to receive Covid-19 vaccines that have used cell lines from aborted fetuses in their research and production process.”

In addition, the Note stated that “practical reason makes evident that vaccination is not, as a rule, a moral obligation and that, therefore, it must be voluntary.”

Paprocki and Bradley argue “that all of the vaccines on offer have been approved only for ‘emergency use’” by the FDA. This means “they are still experimental,” and participants in a medical trial “should be volunteers” (more here). This is especially the case, according to the authors, due to the fact that we are apparently “in a public health crisis” when “the pressures of the moment, shifting and almost always invariably incomplete data, and a certain panic could conspire to make even basic moral constraints seem dispensable.”

In addition, the op-ed reads, “several thousand Notre Dame students have already tested positive for the coronavirus. They are naturally immune to the disease and have no need for the vaccine.”

In the words of eminent physician Dr. Peter McCullough, MD, “People who develop COVID have complete and durable immunity. And [that’s] a very important principle: complete and durable. You can’t beat natural immunity. You can’t vaccinate on top of it and make it better. There’s no scientific, clinical or safety rationale for ever vaccinating a COVID-recovered patient. There’s no rationale for ever testing a COVID-recovered patient.” McCullough also estimated a very high level of herd immunity already — at least in Texas, where the level is at 80% — negating any logical basis for broad vaccination.

The experience of Notre Dame, Paprocki and Bradley observe, confirms the broader data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), according to which the COVID-19 survival rates for those under 20 years of age are 99.997%, and for those between 20 and 50 years old, 99.98%.

Notre Dame should respect these students’ voluntary choices.” (additional sources here, here, here, here, here, here, and here)

As McCullough affirmed, “[For] people under 50 who fundamentally have no health risks, there’s no scientific rationale for them to ever become vaccinated.”

Furthermore, the bishop and the law professor continue by clarifying that declining reception of an experimental COVID-19 gene-therapy vaccine injection “would not be unfair to others in the campus community. The vaccines work principally by preventing anyone vaccinated from incurring serious illness, and death. The unvaccinated thus pose no appreciable risk to those students who do choose to get vaccinated, for they (the vaccinated) would be protected by dint of their own choices.”

The university’s policy also states it will “accommodate documented medical and religious exemptions” from receiving these injections. Bishop Paprocki and Bradley encourage the university to interpret these exemptions in accord with reason, that is, broadly. For example, the medical exemption should simply include “persons who conscientiously judge that it would better serve their health to refuse the vaccine.”

Moral and religious exemptions could involve students who “judge that, although they would not be formally complicit in abortion if they were vaccinated, they nevertheless are called to give perspicuous witness to the truth about the horrors of abortion by avoiding even this sort of remote cooperation with it. These students’ choices to give such profound moral witness should be respected, and encouraged, at our Catholic university,” the authors wrote.

“Notre Dame should expand its understanding of ‘religious’ objectors to include those whose refusal to be vaccinated are rooted in moral considerations or other objections of conscience,” they said.

“Most important,” Bishop Paprocki and Bradley conclude, “any undertaking to exclude from campus every student who declines to be vaccinated — especially but not only those who already possess a natural immunity — would be immoral.”

Expressing their trust in the Notre Dame leadership, the authors encourage them to “act for the genuine common good of our community, in light of the relevant scientific truths and in light of all the relevant moral norms.”

Can colleges and employers legally require you to get vaccinated? It’s complicated.

Some colleges and employers are mandating COVID vaccines, and some states are proposing laws to prohibit vaccine mandates — leaving the unvaccinated to wonder where they stand.

May 4, 2021 (Children’s Health Defense) —  A slew of colleges and universities are embracing COVID vaccine mandates, telling students if they want to attend classes on campus, they’ll need to be vaccinated.

Meanwhile, a look at job postings across the country reveals many employers are requiring job candidates to get vaccinated, or promise to get vaccinated within 30 days of hire.

Whether you’re a job hunter or a college student, you may soon face the prospect that your future plans could hinge on your willingness to get the COVID vaccine. But can colleges and employers legally require it? The answer is … complicated.

Colleges and universities are moving to mandate

More than 100 colleges across the country will require students to receive COVID vaccines in order to attend in-person classes in the fall, though most will allow medical and religious exemptions.

The list of colleges that will require the vaccine includes StanfordRutgersUniversity of Notre DameDuke UniversityGeorgetown UniversityJohns Hopkins and Yale. Other colleges and universities have said they will require athletes or those who live on campus to get a shot, according to The New York Times.

Many schools, including Boston College, Morehouse College in Georgia, University of California and the California State University systems and George Washington University have similar requirements for employees before they will be allowed to return to in-person teaching.

Colorado’s major public universities announced Wednesday they will require students, faculty and staff to get COVID vaccinations before beginning the fall semester. The mandate means more than 170,000 students — most of the state’s college students — will be required to be vaccinated, according to enrollment data from the Colorado Department of Higher Education.

Although private colleges make up the bulk of schools with vaccine mandates, some public universities have also moved to require COVID vaccination. Students and employees of the University System of Maryland will be required to get vaccinated, said Chancellor Jay A. Perman, who is most concerned about the UK virus variant, which he described in his announcement last week as “more contagious.”

“That’s what we’re preparing for,” Perman said, “more infectious, more harmful variants that we think could be circulating on our campuses come fall.”

Rutgers University announced in March it would require all students be vaccinated in order to enroll for the 2021 fall semester. The announcement prompted Children’s Health Defense (CHD) Chairman Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. to remind university officials that federal law prohibits mandating products approved under the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Emergency Use Authorization (EUA).

In a letter to Rutgers President Jonathan Holloway, Kennedy, who also serves as chief legal counsel for CHD, wrote:

“Federal law 21 U.S.C. § 360bbb-3(e)(1)(A)(ii)(III) requires that the person to whom an EUA vaccine is administered be advised, ‘of the option to accept or refuse administration of the product, of the consequences, if any, of refusing administration of the product, and of the alternatives to the product that are available and of their benefits and risks.’

“This right of refusal stems from the fact that EUA products are, by definition, experimental and forced participation in a medical experiment could result in injury. Under the Nuremberg Code, no one may be coerced to participate in a medical experiment. Consent of the individual is ‘absolutely essential.’”

According to I. Glenn Cohen, expert on medical ethics and professor at Harvard Law School, there is no federal guidance for colleges and universities mandating COVID vaccination, but there is a well-established practice of universities mandating students receive specific vaccines as a condition of attendance, with exemptions difficult to obtain.

Cohen pointed to a recent case where the California trial court upheld an influenza vaccine mandate by the University of California, a public university, and drew the analogy to K-12 public school mandates. Public universities are on even surer footing with COVID vaccination requirements because there’s a greater public health risk with COVID, Cohen wrote on the Harvard Law Review Blog.

Private colleges are not required to grant religious exemptions under federal law, though some states have the Religious Freedom Restoration Acts (RFRAs), which may be interpreted to require public colleges and universities to provide religious exemptions, Cohen said.

However, both public and private colleges and universities are subject to the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and/or its sister statute the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 that require accommodations for students with disabilities, which potentially includes those with medical contraindications to vaccines.

There are also arguments surrounding bodily autonomy and the fact that all COVID vaccines currently approved for EUA in the U.S. are experimental vaccines.

Cohen, like Kennedy, pointed to federal law, which requires notifying recipients “of the option to accept or refuse administration of the product …”

What about employers?

recent survey gathered data from more than 1,800 in-house lawyers, human resources professionals and C-suite executives to analyze plans, strategies and concerns related to COVID vaccination among their workforces.

Results showed fewer than 0.5% of companies currently mandate COVID vaccination for all employees, 6% plan to mandate it for all workers once vaccines are readily available and/or fully approved by the FDA and 3% said they plan to mandate vaccination only for certain workers, such as those in customer-facing roles.

Of those surveyed, 43% said they were unsure and still weighing the possibility of mandating vaccination, while 12% said they planned to bar unvaccinated employees from certain activities, such as travel or interaction with colleagues or customers.

Colleen Connell, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois, said government and businesses have the power to impose vaccination requirements to protect public health if justified by data, and the right to refuse vaccines on religious grounds is not absolute.

If people claiming religious exemptions are preventing society from reaching herd immunity, then the “government has a right to insist on vaccinations,” Connell said.

Private employers also have that right as long as they permit religious and public health exemptions and they don’t implement a vaccination program in an arbitrary or discriminatory way — though “hospitals have long required their employees to get annual flu shots,” Connell added.

According to Bloomberg Law, employers generally have legal authority to require their employees get vaccinations, so long as they adhere to federal laws requiring religious and medical accommodations in the workplace. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission reaffirmed that authority in December, specific to COVID.

However, as The Defender reported in January, attorneys Mary Holland, CHD president, and Greg Glaser argued states and employers under federal law can’t mandate EUA COVID vaccines.

Holland and Glaser wrote:

“If a vaccine has been issued EUA by the FDA, it is not fully licensed and must be voluntary. A private party, such as an employer, school or hospital cannot circumvent the EUA law, which prohibits mandates. Indeed, the EUA law preventing mandates is so explicit that there is only one precedent case regarding an attempt to mandate an EUA vaccine.”

On April 1, Pfizer and BioNTech offered an updated look at the efficacy of their COVID vaccine. The new efficacy data, plus a safety analysis comprising data from more than 12,000 people who were fully immunized for at least six months, allow Pfizer to file a drug application with the FDA to turn the shot’s EUA into a full approval, Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla said in a statement.

“They know they’re on very shaky legal ground with mandates while vaccines are EUA,” said Holland. “However, these vaccines will likely be licensed, approved and federally recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices in the near future. Yet even then there will be serious legal questions about the validity of licensure and whether these vaccines reach the high threshold for a mandate via Jacobson v. Massachusetts – the 1905 landmark precedent legalizing vaccine mandates.”

Currently, all 50 states are considering legislation to prevent employers from mandating vaccinations and to protect current and prospective employees who refuse vaccination from discrimination and retaliation.

“I would predict that there will be measures passed in at least a few states that either restrict employers or restrict the concept of a vaccine passport or other proof of vaccination,” said Lowell Pearson, an attorney at Husch Blackwell LLP in Jefferson City, Missouri. Pearson said governors likely don’t have authority to restrict employer mandates via executive orders.

Lawmakers in Missouri are considering HB 838 — which would bar public employers from requiring their workers get vaccinated or imposing vaccine requirements for entry to public spaces.

State legislatures in Ohio, Oklahoma and Tennessee are considering bills that go further than the Missouri measure, proposing a ban on vaccine mandates by any entity, including private-sector employers. Idaho has proposed legislation prohibiting COVID vaccine mandates by any company contracting with the state government.

Only the Wisconsin legislature has sent a bill to the governor this year proposing to ban workplace vaccine mandates, and Democratic Gov. Tony Evers vetoed it.

Arizona election audit ‘ramping up’ despite Democrats’ attempts to derail it

The livestreamed audit includes an examination and recount of nearly 2.1 million ballots cast in Arizona’s Maricopa County last year, in addition to a forensic investigation of voting machines and interviews with voters.

PHOENIX, Arizona, May 4, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — The 2020 election audit ordered by the Arizona state senate is moving forward despite Democrats’ attempts to obstruct it, said former Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett.

Bennett, audit liaison for the senate, told local news on Monday that the review is “ramping up” as the second week of counting begins. The livestreamed audit includes an examination and recount of nearly 2.1 million ballots cast in Arizona’s Maricopa County last year, in addition to a forensic investigation of voting machines and interviews with voters.

Bennett said that between 150,00–175,000 ballots have been tallied so far, although the pace is expected to accelerate in the coming days. “They’re ramping up the personnel needed,” the former secretary of state said, noting that counting tables at the Veteran Memorial Coliseum, the venue for the audit, doubled this week from 20 to 46.

“The first two days were very low counts, but the count is picking up significantly every day,” Bennett said. “We’re doing things that will get us to a number of ballots per day that will allow us to be done with the counting by May 14.”

The coliseum is scheduled to host graduation ceremonies in mid-May, which would require a temporary halt of ballot counting if the election audit is not finished by then. The audit could resume a week later, however, and fair officials have granted access to the site “for as long as we need it,” Bennett said.

The ballot review process, led by Cyber Ninjas, a Florida-based IT firm hired by the senate, involves dozens of volunteer teams, sometimes checking ink or creases or examining ballots with UV lights. Nearly all data from the six truckloads of Maricopa voting machines delivered for inspection have been collected, Bennett reported last week. He told the Gateway Pundit that “now they’ll move into phase two, which is analyzing that data.”

The Arizona senate has pledged $150,000 for the effort, with other funding coming from FundTheAudit.com, which says that it has raised more than $1.2 million of its $2.8 million goal. The group was founded by election integrity advocate and former Overstock CEO Patrick Byrne.

All kinds of things are going to be surfaced in the weeks ahead”

Democrats and Maricopa County officials had sought for months to block the Maricopa audit before it finally launched on April 23. The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors initially had defied subpoenas that the Arizona senate delivered in December, until a county judge sided with lawmakers earlier this year.

Maricopa County Supervisor Steve Gallardo, a Democrat, and the Arizona Democratic Party subsequently sued to pause the audit the day before it started. Maricopa Judge Daniel Martin shot down that challenge as well, in part because Democrats refused to put up a $1 million bond to cover delay costs. Arizona GOP chairwoman Kelli Ward has since warned that leftist activists may still be attempting to “undermine” the audit as observers.

Maricopa County, which incorporates the city of Phoenix, had been implicated in several 2020 election controversies and alleged irregularities, like Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s infamous multi-million dollar election process funding spree.

Emails have shown that the Zuckerberg-backed nonprofit Center for Tech in Civic Life (CTCL) granted Maricopa County $3 million last year for “drive through voting” and “absentee voting equipment.” Experts have said that the likely illegal money helped Democrats “clinch victory by greasing the skids for voter turnout.”

Additional emails released in March revealed that CTCL operatives were given improper access to ballots in Green Bay, Wisconsin –– a key jurisdiction with a similar arrangement.

“I think it’s going to be incredible, I think it’s going to be eye-opening because I personally think that — I have no question we won Arizona,” President Trump said about the Maricopa audit. “So, we’ll see what happens, but I have a feeling I know what’s going to happen because it was a totally crooked election.”

Republicans have referred to the audit as a means to help draft future legislation and have stated that it cannot legally change the outcome of the election, as Arizona certified the results last year. Patrick Byrne, however, has indicated that the effort could have far greater significance.

“We’re not going to let this happen again, but don’t believe for a minute that 2020 is over yet,” he told NTD Television recently. “There’s all kinds of things from that election that are going to be surfaced in the weeks ahead.”

NEW YORK, May 4, 2021 (C-Fam) – The Biden administration sent a letter to UN ambassadors announcing U.S. withdrawal from an historic pro-life declaration initiated by the Trump administration and co-sponsored by countries representing regions all over the world.

In the letter obtained by the Friday Fax, the Biden administration said it “has the honor to inform that the United States has rescinded its co-sponsorship and endorsement of the Geneva Consensus Declaration.” It was sent to the declaration’s 34 signatories ahead of the UN Commission on the Status of Women.

“Last fall your country signed on to the Geneva Consensus Declaration, an initiative of the United States dealing with women’s health, abortion and the family.”

“Upon reviewing the Declaration, we have reservations that aspects of the document are not consistent with our current Administration’s policies, including those relating to women’s health, LGBTQI equality, and gender equality.”

“Accordingly, the United States hereby discontinues our participation in the Geneva Consensus Declaration.”

The letter cites the presidential memorandum signed by President Biden on January 28, 2021 that directed the Secretaries of State and Health and Human Services to “withdraw co-sponsorship and signature from the Geneva Consensus Declaration” and “notify other co-sponsors and signatories to the Declaration and other appropriate parties of the United States’ withdrawal.”

This same executive action dubbed the “Memorandum on Protecting Women’s Health at Home and Abroad” restored U.S. taxpayer funding to international abortion groups and multilateral agencies that promote abortion. President Biden announced funding would be restored to the UN Population Fund, rescinded the Mexico City Policy and committed to adequately fund “women’s health needs globally, including sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights.”  U.S. law still prohibits the direct funding of abortion overseas.

Despite the U.S. letter and the pro-abortion positions taken by U.S. negotiators during the Commission 4-week debate —more conservative countries, including signatories of the Declaration rejected the sexual rights agenda promoted by the U.S and European Union under the guise of women’s equality and empowerment.

The Geneva Consensus Declaration was officially launched in October of 2020 in Washington DC at a Department of State event with Secretary Mike Pompeo and Secretary of Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar presiding. Ministers from around the world committed to the expansion of women’s health, the protection of life, the family, and the sovereign right of nations to legislate on these issues.

The Declaration states that there is no international right to abortion.

“The Biden Administration’s swift withdrawal of the U.S. from the Geneva Consensus Declaration confirms that the Biden Abortion Doctrine is of preeminent importance in its foreign policy, wrongly using the influence of the federal government as an advocacy arm for special interests,” special advisor on Global Women’s Health under the Trump administration, Valerie Huber told the Friday Fax.

Huber, who was the architects of the Declaration working under Secretary Azar, said “the Geneva Consensus Declaration remains,” and the “historic strength of this united voice in support of women’s health, life, and family reverberates around the globe and in the halls of the United Nations.”

Last December U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Kelly Craft submitted the Declaration to Secretary-General António Guterres asking that it be a formal record of the UN and be circulated to all 193 Member States. None of the 34 other signatories have withdrawn their support from the declaration.

Biden’s ‘American Families Plan’ leaves out the family

No amount of money can replace the moral problems that plague society.

May 4, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) -- The latest liberal plan to save the nation is the Biden administration’s American Families Plan. It is heralded as a lifesaver for struggling families. Finally, Americans can supposedly enjoy the long-overdue benefits similar to those enjoyed by citizens benefiting from Europe’s extensive social safety net.

The Plan’s wish list is impressive. There is affordable child care for everyone. Add free preschool for all three- and four-year-olds, paid leave for new parents, extended tax credits, health benefits, and two years of free community college. There is something for everyone in this plan. What is there not to like in this program that only the most hardened scrooge can hate?

A hefty price tag

The plan’s $1.6 trillion price tag is a bit hefty. However, President Joe Biden claims it can be recouped with higher taxes on corporations and wealthier individuals. The rich will be made to pay because they are rich. Moreover, the government is big and has unlimited possibilities for expanding its low-interest debt.

With such deep-pocketed resources, liberals argue, there is no limit as to what can be done to improve the lives of millions of American families. They claim it matters little if the government gets bigger as long as American families benefit. Think of it as an investment in the future and the Plan will not appear so bad.

The limits of money

However, the American Families Plan has two major defects. The first is that it frames the debate in economic terms. The left holds the absurd belief that any problem can be resolved if enough money is spent.

Indeed, the debate is all about money – or more precisely about free money and other people’s money. The discussion is how to transfer more money from the taxpayers’ pockets to the government’s coffers.

Opponents to the plan have responded in kind. They rightly notice the grave injustice in taxing the rich to foot the bill for the left’s wish list. Tax hikes can only go so far before they weigh down the economy.  Republican Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina criticized the plan, saying it will initiate “the biggest job-killing tax hikes in a generation.”

The problem with limiting the discussion to economic consideration is that it neglects the most important moral arguments against the plan. It ignores the plan’s most vulnerable flank. Money will not solve the moral problems that so ail today’s families.

Refusing to define the family

Thus, the second and most important defect of the American Families Plan is its refusal to deal with the notion of what the family is. The Biden administration’s programs typically exclude what is highlighted in their titles. Most of his stimulus plan was not about stimulus. The infrastructure scheme has very little infrastructure spending in it. Likewise, this American Families Plan has next to nothing in it for the family.

The family has gone missing in Biden’s Plan. He adopts the modern individualist concepts of the family as defined by Kant, who called it a complex of purposeful and legal relations. Today’s liberals also include the postmodern notions of a family being whatever individuals declare it to be. It assumes no permanent commitment. Any group of individuals might qualify.

Aristotle defined the family as the original natural community for the creation and maintenance of life. Saint Thomas Aquinas called it the first and smallest social union. Leo XIII said it is a small but real society through which the individual enters society. It stands between the individual and the State. The family presupposes a stable fruitful marriage and the development and education of offspring to carry forward society for future generations.

Thus, a family has an end, and any plan that works against this end jeopardizes its survival. Any definition outside this purpose is not a family but a group of individuals.

An anti-family agenda

The Biden Plan works against the nature and purpose of the family.

To start with, judging from the administration’s LGBTQ+ agenda, family for it is anything a person wants it to be.

The Plan offers affordable child care and universal preschool. However, such programs presuppose babies. The administration is doing everything possible to expand the abortion agenda through government policy. Contrary to his professed Catholic faith, the president is actively working against the family by denying the abundant births that should come from marriage. His program would be better labeled as one to benefit infant survivors and facilitate their care away from home.

A family plan should be about doing something about birth rates. The family is in crisis because of America’s demographic meltdown caused by the failure of families to replace the country’s population. However, official government policy embraces the contraceptive mentality that destroys families.

Family presupposes a father and a mother that provide the best possible condition for children’s solid physical and spiritual development. However, there is nothing in these programs that encourages more healthy families. There is nothing that helps defend them against the dangers of contraception, abortion, cohabitation, and divorce.

While child care might be needed in some cases, nothing can replace the parent in the home that bonds with children. The universal placing of infants and children in daycare centers should not be a desired goal.

American broken family plan

While traditional families might benefit from some parts of the Biden Plan, it does not address the essential issue of what makes up a family and how the stable family is the only way for individuals to get ahead.

Since its focus is only economic, the American Families Plan appears to target the broken family. The primary cause of poverty is not the lack of training or education but the broken families that fail to fulfill their responsibilities. Thus, government programs do not address single parenthood, absent fathers, and rampant promiscuity destroying families everywhere. Tragically, the government often facilitates their perpetuation. Instead of aiding the family, the government absorbs it into its care.

Thus, the Biden program is self-defeating. The best possible way to help the family is to form healthy families: the healthier the family, the less need for government intervention. The family is an essential social unit, but it is also an economic powerhouse that creates and distributes wealth beyond anything that the government can provide.

The Church is a much better instrument for shaping healthy families than the State. The Church can provide moral advice, encourage fidelity, and instill virtuous habits. All this can be done at little cost yet great benefit to society. Instead of browbeating Catholic nuns into paying for contraception, a good family policy would focus on developing a moral climate for families to flourish.

What is ailing the American family is not money for the family. Without the correct notion of the family, no amount of money will fix American families. What is needed is moral direction, and there is none in the Biden Plan.

Media hysteria means Arizona election audit may be on to something

It behooves the auditors and their sponsors to focus both on palpably wrongful voting and sufficient numerosity of suspect votes.

May 4, 2021 (American Thinker) – While an uncertain public awaits  results from the Arizona election audit, the immediate major media outcry, prematurely denouncing it, should be viewed as the audit's hitting a major media nerve.  The media's reaction vividly demonstrates their fear of a searching re-examination of the election purity they have so arrogantly and unwaveringly proclaimed.

After all, if this election were as well run as touted (with the customary admission to the mere occasional and inevitable, but insignificant, error), then the Biden-centric media should be cheerleading the effort.  Shouldn't the audit, to use a favored media word, be anticipated to "debunk" the claims of widespread irregularities?

The media have drawn great succor from numerous court cases turning down challenges to the 2020 election results.  However, these claims raised issues not properly cognizable by our judicial system.  Ordering a recount is one thing; relitigating a multimillion-vote election is quite another.  It looks tremendously suspicious that, after Republican poll-watchers were banished, massive blocs of Detroit votes were introduced in the early morning, with 95% Biden selection.  But what exactly is a smart person in black robes supposed to do with this tableau?  Overturn the election without taking evidence?  Convene a three-month trial with numerous witnesses and experts, while Biden and Trump cool their heels?  A wise court should toss the case, as each reviewing jurist did. But this rejection should not be seen as validating the election process, as the major media did.

The election process itself, not the judicial system, is supposed to be administered so as to provide the public with confidence in the announced tallies.  For this reason, the only widely recognized judicial remedy, as in Bush v. Gore, is an order to recount, which brings the process back to its proper venue: the election centers.  So the unsuccessful Republican and Trump lawsuits to invalidate the various election results do not validate the propriety of election procedures; they merely demarcate the limited jurisdictional boundaries of our judicial system.

But that is not how major media, at once partisan and ignorant, have spun this string of unsurprising Republican defeats:

To Cast Doubt On Election Results, Republicans Lean On Conspiracy Theories —npr.org

Arizona Republicans are auditing election results using company run by man who spread conspiracy theories about them —chicagotribune.com

QAnon fans are obsessed with Arizona vote "audit," still hoping for Trump comeback —salon.com

Arizona Republicans' desperate crusade to find nonexistent voter fraud —washingtonpost.com

Media hyperventilation about the recently commenced Arizona audit is evidence that pro-Biden forces discern grave danger in the process.  They have known all along that an audit, not a court case, is the proper forum for detection of maladministration allowing improper votes.  If the media can portray the audit as being about nothing more than warmed-over voting machine paranoia, the yells of "conspiracy theory" will become even louder.  But if a credible evidentiary challenge to the results in Arizona can be strongly shown, the media will be soundly discredited, and with them their assurances of election legitimacy.

So it behooves the auditors and their sponsors to focus both on palpably wrongful voting and sufficient numerosity of suspect votes.  Such a result would not necessarily mean that the national election was illegitimate.  But it would give some support to that entirely reasonable inference.  At the least, it would dramatically demonstrate that, yes, our national election, especially in key urban areas controlled by Democrats, was so poorly administered, whether negligently or fraudulently, that radical reform is needed to ensure that this uncertainty never again occurs.  And yes, H.R. 1 would be a problem, not a solution.

One more conclusion that will be reasonably drawn if such an audit outcome is credibly proven: the major media were once again complicit in fraudulent partisan concealment of a major affront to our democracy, making their suppression of the Hunter Biden laptop story just one leaf of their poisonous tree.  Indeed, they would be convicted by the jury of public opinion as one of the main culprits in the fiasco we call the 2020 election.

Change away from successful treatments due to Big Pharma pressure likely cause of COVID death catastrophe in India

It should be clear that trying to quickly vaccinate most of the global population is crazy, especially compared to the ability to quickly promote and facilitate wide use of protocols based on both hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin.

May 4, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – Virtually every news outlet has been screaming about the incredibly high rates of COVID victims, hospitalizations and deaths in India. Missing in these countless stories is awareness that the cause of the COVID surge could be connected to the reduced use in India of two proven generic drugs for treating and preventing COVID: first it was hydroxychloroquine and later ivermectin.

As a proponent of using these two medicines I have reviewed the strong real world data showing their effectiveness to cure and prevent COVID in Pandemic Blunder. Anyone honestly following the science would have to conclude that both of these medicines really work.

During 2020 and the first months of this year the COVID pandemic in India by all accounts was not at all devastating. And careful examination of the good news was that those two generic medicines had been widely provided to the population. Then the COVID vaccine movement hit the world and the terrible COVID surge hit India.

The mainstream media waged a war against early home/outpatient COVID treatment successfully used globally with those two generic medicines, both with very long histories of safety. Now the same media finds it appropriate to focus attention on all the bad news in India. But why have the media ignored the evidence that the India surge could be connected to the government dropping its wide use of ivermectin in recent months?

Why would this happen? Certainly, all the negative media coverage of ivermectin could have caused the India government to switch its priority to vaccines.  If so, it has proven to be a blunder of epic proportions with many hundreds of thousands of Indians suffering and dying.

Sadly, it is difficult to find substantial interest in examining the possible role of reduced use of ivermectin in these dark days of the COVID pandemic in India.

Here are several key articles.  First, an April 14 article “Doctor Believes Ivermectin Drug Can Help India Stop Covid-19 Second Wave” in the India Times talked about Dr. Surya Kant Tripathi, Head of Respiratory Medicine Department at King George Medical University in Lucknow.  He believes ivermectin “could help take control over the novel coronavirus.”  Also noted was that ivermectin “is now being commonly used in various states in India.”

This senior physician also noted this about ivermectin use: “This drug is now being commonly used in various states in India.”  This too was noted: “Indian medical institutions have started giving COVID-19 patients Ivermectin off-label.  Medical institutions across the nation are also giving the drug as a prophylaxis against the novel coronavirus.  This is being seen in several states of the nation including Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra.  Dr. Tripathi, in a conversation with Financial Express revealed that the drug has been in use for over nine months now without major side effects being reported.”

A sound analysis appeared in an obscure blog on April 26 titled “When India stopped prescribing Ivermectin and started vaccinating the deaths shot up.”  Here are its key observations: “Back in January, all talk was about Ivermectin, a cheap and effective remedy being used in India.  However, the attention went onto the vaccine and since then the deaths have gone up and up and there are indications this might be repeated elsewhere.”

This story cited a January 2021 article that emphasized: “India has developed a ‘miraculously’ effective and safe COVID-19 treatment kit which costs merely $2.65 per person and has helped put the nation’s case and fatality rates in “steep decline.”  Also noted was that a protocol incorporating ivermectin “has led to up to 83% lower-than-average COVID-19 death rates in hospitals that have applied it.”

In many parts of India they began treating coronavirus patients early, including with the use of hydroxychloroquine (HCQ).  Dr. Makarand Paranjpe and his wife, both 77 year-old Indian physicians, fully recovered from the COVID-19 virus using early treatment last November, Trial Site News reports. She used hydroxychloroquine, and he took ivermectin.

“Without any treatment, we know that the virus enters the cells and replicates there,” Paranjpe said. “They can create disease that gets much more severe.” Stopping such replication as early as possible is the simple function of these inexpensive and safe treatments.

Last March, as debates raged in the U.S. over the merits of HCQ, following President Trump’s endorsement of the drug, India had already recommended it in its national guidelines affirming it “should be used as early in the disease course as possible…and should be avoided in patients with severe disease.”

Following the June 2020 discovery of ivermectin’s efficacy in treating the virus, along with significant subsequent testing, the largest state in their nation, Uttar Pradesh (UP) (pop. 230 million) announced in August 2020 that it was replacing their HCQ protocol with ivermectin for the prevention and treatment of COVID-19.

“By the end of 2020, Uttar Pradesh — which distributed free ivermectin for home care — had the second-lowest fatality rate in India at 0.26 per 100,000 residents in December.  Only the state of Bihar, with 128 million residents, was lower, and it, too, recommends ivermectin,” according to Trial Site News.

By further comparison, utilizing early treatment with HCQ and ivermectin, the densely populated India, which has four times the population of the U.S., has less than half of the coronavirus related deaths.

Dr. Anil K. Chaurasia, a physician in UP, affirmed that starting in mid-September 2020, “a clear decline in COVID cases and fatalities in India was noticeable … [and the] steep decline in cases and fatalities is still continuing.”

Here is the latest big news from India. The national government has faced reality. Jerri Lynn reported on Sunday [May 2] “the huge uncontrolled wave of infections hitting India is having all sorts of implications for the Modi government. In its desperation to regain control of the virus, India’s government quietly changed its treatment guidelines last week. The new guidelines include the option of prescribing two repurposed medicines for mild Covid patients: budesonid and ivermectin. The former is an inhaled steroid that has been shown to reduce the time to recovery and need for urgent medical care.”

Also noted was that “Uttar Pradesh (UP) did more than treat 300,000 mild cases at home through 2020; it also opted to use ivermectin to prevent infection. COVID response teams began taking the drug and they did not catch the illness. U.P. then had contacts of COVID patients take it, with similar success.”

But here is the ugly reality: “Yet UP’s remarkable success at controlling the virus did not inform national policy — at least not until now.  The Indian Council of Medical Research declined in October to recommend ivermectin nationwide, citing, like so many health regulators, the need for more data.  But all that changed last week as India became the biggest country on the planet to adopt nationwide use of ivermectin against Covid-19.”

What had happened to kill wide use of ivermectin not just in India but in the U.S. and many other countries? Meanwhile there are continued calls by many organizations, including the National Institutes of Health, FDA and the World Health Organization, for yet more studies in the use of ivermectin to treat and prevent COVID.  This is sheer nonsense.

Has the profit-seeking drug industry in India and elsewhere pushed the use of vaccines and knocked out wide use of cheap generics?

If so, it should be clear that trying to quickly vaccinate most of the global population is crazy, especially compared to the ability to quickly promote and facilitate wide use of protocols based on both hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin.

The U.S. government should learn from the proper but belated action by the India government.  Too many Americans have suffered and died needlessly.  With over 570,000 COVID related deaths and more every day, the blocks to using ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine should be removed.

Dr. Joel S. Hirschhorn, as a full professor at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, directed a medical research program between the colleges of engineering and medicine. At the Congressional Office of Technology Assessment and the National Governors Association, he directed major health-related studies. He has testified at over 50 U.S. Senate and House hearings and authored hundreds of articles in journals and on websites, plus op-ed articles in major newspapers. He has been an executive volunteer at a major hospital for more than 10 years. His newest book is PandemicBlunder.

Liberal media personalities increasingly talking up the need to ‘deprogram’ Trump supporters

'How are we going to really almost deprogram these people who have signed up for the cult of Trump?' mused TV personality Katie Couric earlier this year.

May 4, 2021 (American Thinker) – Their normal human sympathies have atrophied.  They live in the desert of their own inhuman politics.  They are cold and apparently lack a spiritual life.  Desperate to look down on other people, they take fatuity to a new level.

David Atkins, recently elected as a California member of the Democratic National Committee, mused on Twitter (Nov. 21, 2020): "How do you deprogram 75 million people who would literally die to stick it to the domestic enemies the teevee and youtube conspiracy vids told them to hate? No, seriously...how DO you deprogram 75 million people? Where do you start? Fox? Facebook? We have to start thinking in terms of post-WWII Germany or Japan. Or the failures of Reconstruction in the South."

Bret Stephens, certified by the New York Times as a journalist, summed up the American political landscape ten weeks after the election (Jan. 18, 2021):

The larger question in my mind is whether the G.O.P. is the village that must be destroyed in order to be saved, or, alternatively, is it like a group of previously reasonable people who got taken in by a cult and now must go through some kind of deprogramming so that they can lead normal lives again?  My hope is that once Republicans realize that Trump was both a moral and political disaster for them, they might recover their senses.

Katie Couric, famous TV person, reacted viscerally to this "larger question" when chatting with Bill Maher on his Real Time show (Jan. 19, 2020).  Katie confided her contempt for those who don't agree with her.  She was particularly upset with GOP congressmen.  "It's really bizarre, isn't it, when you think about how AWOL so many of these members of Congress have gotten? ... And the question is, how are we going to really almost deprogram these people who have signed up for the cult of Trump?"

Bill Maher read from the same sermon: "I mean, what do you do about these people?  There's 147 Republicans in Congress who still don't concede that Trump lost the election.  What do you do about people who are in the government who don't believe in our way of government?"

The Washington Post also has a clairvoyant, Brian Klaas:

For the past four years, the United States was governed by a conspiracy theorist in chief.  Whether by retweeting QAnon from the Oval Office or painting himself as the victim of shadowy "deep state" plots at rallies, President Donald Trump injected the toxin of baseless conspiratorial thinking straight into America's political bloodstream.  On Jan 6, 2021, America saw how far that venom had spread, as a ragtag group of militias, racist extremists and flag-waving disciples of Trumpism stormed the Capitol[.]

Columnist Klaas laments the near futility of attempting to "deprogram" millions of Trump-supporters, claiming that many have "gone far enough down the rabbit hole of conspiratorial thinking."  His essay "Why is it so hard to deprogram Trumpian conspiracy theorists?" depicts millions of Trump-supporters as so devoted to "dangerous lunacy" that nearly all hope is lost of bringing them "back to reality."

Many readers must feel that Klaas is talking about himself.  Baseless conspiratorial thinking, indeed.  There is little hope of bringing him back to reality.

Steven Hassan, of Salon, can probably claim to be among the first to discuss some of these items.  A year before the election, he asked: "Is it possible to deprogram Trump's political cult members and return them to normal society?  Should good Americans isolate Trump supporters and refuse to interact with them?"

Hassan deals in such epiphanies as follows:

One of the most universal techniques of subverting our ability to correctly assess reality is through phobia indoctrination. This is the implantation of irrational fears against questioning the leader, the doctrine, or the organization or cult's policies[.] ... These techniques include behavior control, information control, thought control, and emotional control to keep people dependent and obedient within that group's structure.

Who needs all this psychoanalytical jibber-jabber?  Simple.  People whose self-esteem is shaky — i.e., they can hardly stand themselves.  So they label other people deplorable even as they probably suspect how deplorable they are.

Every time the cult member says, "I hate Trump," the real me is preening: "I'm a genuine and superior person.  And people like me!"  The more evil you claim that Trump is, the more beneficent you are claiming to be.

The fascinating thing is the dead-brain, tone-deaf consciousness you need to muse in this offhand way about deprogramming and reprogramming many tens of millions of people.  As if this cascade of crimes is just a walk to the drugstore.  After all, what is Katie Couric demanding?  Kidnapping?  Torture?  Human-trafficking?  Involuntary servitude?  At least.

Can deprogramming be done in a day?  More probably weeks or months.  Where will people stay?  Who pays for all this?  When you move them around, do you use school buses or tractor-trailers?  Do you put them in straitjackets?

One perennial thread in fascism is a love affair with brutality.  One can't help feeling that some of these people would love to bring back the guillotine and have a front-row seat as heads plop into the basket.  We can almost see Joy Behar grinning with anticipation.

Perhaps the basic sin is not so grotesque, merely the overestimating of one's intelligence.  The New York Times, always trying to equate Trump with Hitler, started using the word cult all the time, and before you know it, it's a fact as solid as the Rocky Mountains.  No further discussion required.  In the same way, all these people believe they personally witnessed Trump as he personally commanded an insurrection to capture a building that was already his.  Only the cognitively incomplete could claim to comprehend this caper.  (Spoiler alert: History will conclude there is no cult and no insurrection.  Repeat ten times each day.)

The public schools almost cannot be bothered to teach knowledge.  And we see that this attitude has infected all the best people.  Everything is whatever they say it is.  There's really no need to discuss evidence with peasants.  There is a serious question whether they should even be allowed to exist.

The only cult is the people who think CNN is the political middle ground.  The only insurrection is the sacking and looting of the city named Veritas, where facts and knowledge were once cherished.

The whole point of America was to be free to make your own choices, live and let live.  But now the left does not believe in choices or freedom to choose the answers each individual likes best.  It's a brutal setback for personal independence and a cunning victory for totalitarianism.

Why COVID vaccines are dream come true for central banks

Paired with the rollout of related surveillance technologies — digital tracking devices, vaccine passports, brain-machine interfaces and planet-wide 5G — COVID vaccines are a critical component of central bankers’ plan to establish a global control grid.

May 4, 2021 (Children’s Health Defense) —  Primed by the media to equate COVID-19 injections with “escape from COVID-19’s long siege,” about half of U.S. adults (54%) have now accepted at least one dose of vaccine.

However, according to the latest CBS News poll, at least four in 10 Americans remain in the “maybe” or “no thanks” categories.

Though some media and medical and public health officials mock the uninjected as know-nothing rubes, the objections of so-called “vaccine holdouts” are far from uniformed or frivolous.

Reports of “rare” blood clots and other serious adverse events are emerging on an almost daily basis. As of April 26, 3,848 post-vaccine deaths had been reported to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS).

Faced with widespread recalcitrance, health officials like Francis Collins, director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), have been upping their public relations offensive, including dangling the threat of COVID vaccine mandates.

This is unsurprising coming from a pharma-beholden and conflict-of-interest-riddled health agency like the NIH. But why are financial gurus like Jerome Powell, U.S. Federal Reserve chair — a wealthy lawyer and investment banker — also heavy-handedly making the COVID vaccines the centerpiece of their public prognostications?

In a recent 60 Minutes interview, Powell returned to the COVID jabs again and again, trying to make the case that economic recovery depends on everyone getting vaccinated.

Powell’s preoccupation with COVID vaccines makes little sense — unless one recognizes the growing convergence of the financial, techbiopharmaceutical and military-intelligence sectors, as well as the “global policy coordination” being engineered by private central banks.

Pilot programs that bundle biometric digital identity, vaccination and payment systems “into a single cohesive platform,” plus the aggressive worldwide push for “vaccine passports” that would make access to businesses and events contingent on proof of vaccination, provide a further hint of bankers’ ultimate vision: a surveillance-driven totalitarian system that uses new technologies to centralize economic flows — including controlling the ability to transact at the individual level.

Vaccines as operating systems

To understand central bankers’ aims, it is important to recognize that COVID has furnished a pretext for deploying waiting-in-the-wings vaccine biotechnologies that differ substantially from the already problematic lab techniques used to create earlier generations of vaccines.

This 21st-century vaccine paradigm draws on the exploding fields of biocomputing and synthetic biology, with the latter cheerfully defined as the redesign of an organism’s genetic code for “useful purposes.”

Dazzled by the endless vistas opened up by these technologies, proponents envision a rosy future filled with “programmable ‘smart vaccines’” — concoctions that would permit synthetic biologists to become the puppet masters of human biology.

Nowhere is this intention more apparent than in Moderna’s description of its messenger RNA (mRNA) technology platform. Moderna openly refers to its technology as an “operating system … designed so that it can plug and play interchangeably with different programs.” The company even suggests that the unique mRNA sequences it develops for vaccines be viewed as “apps.”

Mixed public reactions to this dispassionate language propelled Reuters, in February, to publish a fact check claiming that Moderna is referring to operating systems only “in a metaphorical sense, not a literal one.”

However, in a 2017 TEDx talk, Moderna chief medical officer Tal Zaqs’ earnest declaration that “we’re actually hacking the software of life” sounded anything but “metaphorical.” Stating that the genetic instructions transmitted by RNA are “critical information that determines what a cell will actually do,” Zaqs characterized his company’s mission as one of introducing or changing “lines of code” for the purposes of “information therapy.”

Other scientists engaged in “mRNA modifications” agree. However, while describing the approach as “powerful,” “dynamic” and “versatile,” they concede that “many aspects. . . remain elusive.”

In fact, despite the hubristic claims of Zaqs and other scientists that this genetic tinkering has no downside, the long-term risks are largely unknown.

Name of the game: centralization and control

Vaccine and drug manufacturers have interpreted the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA’s) decisions to grant Emergency Use Authorization to the Moderna and Pfizer COVID vaccines as a signal the FDA “is open to broader use of the previously unproven [mRNA] technology.”

As a result, mRNA-focused companies are attracting billions in new capital. Reuters reported at least 150 mRNA vaccines and therapeutics are currently in development globally.

As pleased as these medical-pharmaceutical players may be to accrue additional funding and prestige, they are far from the sole beneficiaries of the new technologies’ rollout. Circling back to the centralizing aims of the world’s central bankers, British writer David O’Hagan said, “The combination of biocomputing within the body and external silicone-based technology is foundational to the implementation of transhumanism, a new data-driven economic system and complete control.”

O’Hagan quotes former investment banker Catherine Austin Fitts, who has warned from the beginning of the pandemic that COVID vaccines are the equivalent of “human ‘operating systems.’”

Paired with the promotion and rollout of related surveillance technologies — including digital tracking devicesvaccine passportsbrain-machine interfaces and planet-wide 5G — Fitts views the vaccines as one component of central bankers’ plan to establish a global control grid.

Addressing the topic of vaccine passports, author and tech company CEO Naomi Wolf cautioned their implementation would mean “literally the end of human liberty in the West.”

In the operating system framework, it is also clear the vaccines are not a matter of “one [or two] and done.” Pfizer’s CEO has already said not only will a third COVID injection “likely” be needed within 12 months of the two initial injections, but that annual coronavirus vaccines are a distinct possibility.

U.S. government contracts (jointly awarded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the U.S. Department of Defense) for monthly production of up to 330 million prefilled syringes ominously hint at plans for even more frequent “updates” to the operating system.

Unvaccinated individuals — in the U.S. and globally — likely have many different reasons for wanting to take a pass on COVID injections. Recognizing the vaccines have little to do with medicine or health and much more to do with centralization and control is an important step in pushing back against liberty-suffocating restrictions and central bankers’ vision of an all-powerful on-off switch controlling each person’s participation in the financial system and wider society.

The fake news industry is still gaslighting America with phony polls

May 4, 2021 (American Thinker) – Opinion polls, particularly in the buildup to a presidential election, are not designed to reflect public opinion, but instead to shape it. For the media, objectivity is only of historic interest, a journalistic tenet from a bygone era. Now most of the media is embedded within the Democrat party, serving as an advocacy arm or political action committee to influence elections and agendas.

A CNN staffer, who bragged that he was “one step down” from a director, admitted to an undercover Tinder date, actually a real journalist working for James O’Keefe’s Project Veritas, that CNN was “creating a story” that “we didn’t know anything about,” calling it “propaganda” to help remove President Trump from office. The epitome of fake news.

Fake news media have many gaslighting tools at their disposal. Some outlets doctor audio or video tapes to make their “bad guy” appear racist or doing something illegal. Or, they make their “good guy” look like Mother Teresa. Recipients of this treatment range from law enforcement and Ferguson’s Gentle Giant Michael Brown, to George Zimmerman, and even President Donald Trump.

Many cable news channels, or newspapers simply say or print falsehoods, as in Trump-Russia collusion, Russian bounties on American soldiers, or the cause of death of a Capitol Police officer. The error or correction, if acknowledged at all, is relegated to a couple of lines buried in back of the newspaper several days or more later.

Opinion polls are a well-known and effective method of shaping opinion. These methods have been well described and include sampling whoever answers the phone versus likely voters, the latter being a practice of Rasmussen Reports in their high accurate presidential opinion polls. Oversampling Democrats is another fraudulent way to produce a poll result favoring the DNC media agenda.

President Biden last week addressed Congress, at least those select few members invited to listen to Sleepy Joe propose new spending in excess of $4 trillion, an amount larger than what the federal government takes in annually through already-confiscatory taxes.

Despite most or all members of Congress, as well as the president and vice president, already being vaccinated, the sparse audience was wearing masks and sitting at least six feet apart. If fully vaccinated, why were the attendees acting as though they were not? If the government message is that the vaccine works and everyone should take it, why are the top government leaders sending the opposite message?

Cable news anchors from CNN and MSNBC, joined by Fox News’s Chris Wallace, were gushing over Biden’s speech, some nearly in tears, a far cry from any Trump speech reaction over the past four years. CNN commissioned a poll to support their lovefest over Biden’s spendfest speech.

Their headline on the day after Biden’s speech was “7 in 10 who watched say Biden’s speech left them feeling optimistic.”

Start with the bit about “who watched.” How many Americans gave up an hour of their evening to watch what the media thought was a speech on par with Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I have a dream” speech? Not too many.

Charlie Kirk tweeted out TV ratings for presidential addresses.

Trump 17—48,000,000

Trump 18—46,000,000

Trump 19—46,800,000

Trump 20—37,200,000

Biden 21—11,600,000

The last figure was the sum total of the three main legacy television networks - CBS, ABC, and NBC, plus Fox News. Nielsen reports the audience from more sources at 26.9 million. Either way, Biden drew considerably less of the audience that Trump did in his first congressional address and far less than in Trump’s final address, even when cable media are included. As the Last Refuge noted,

That’s over a 60% decrease in viewership.   No crowds ever attended his rallies.  There was no crowd at his installation.  There are no views for his on-line speeches.  The audience for his regular speeches are non-existent.  Virtually no viewers at home.  An empty chamber for his speech,… and yet we are to believe he received 81 million votes.

At least China Joe beat the Oscars, which had only 9.85 million viewers, down 58 percent from last year’s all-time low. Perhaps the woke leftists in Hollywood and the White House are not as popular as CNN believes they are.

Back to the poll, commissioned by CNN, conducted by SSRS Opinion Panel: The sample was 589 respondents, only slightly more than the size of the U.S. Congress. Of those surveyed, 45 percent identified as Democrat compared to 23 percent as Republican, a two-fold difference.

Is it any wonder that seven out of 10 gave the speech a thumbs up? They should have saved money and just surveyed the CNN newsroom, getting the same or an even more favorable result.

Did they survey anyone living on the Southern border? Or in cities ravaged by a year of protests and riots, encouraged by Biden’s Democrat party? Or those minding their own business yet accused of being racist white supremacists by the woke-stasi?

Let’s not just pick on CNN. CBS pushed its own gaslighting poll, carried out by YouGov. Their headline, post speech, was, “Most viewers approve of Biden’s speech.” CBS reported 85 percent of speech watchers approved of Biden’s speech. Who were those speech watchers, aside from the CBS newsroom?

CBS’s sample was even more skewed than CNN’s with 54 percent Democrats and only 18 percent Republicans, a three-fold difference. Why not just poll speech attendees, mostly Democrats with a handful of stealth Democrats like Sen. Mitt Romney or Chief Justice John Roberts? The result would be the same.

Even left-wing Snopes called out the media, rating as “false” the assertion that 85 percent of Americans approved of Biden’s speech. When the gaslighting media loses Snopes, you know they have crossed the Rubicon of credibility.

To paraphrase George Orwell, all opinions are equal, but some are more equal than others. It’s the “more equal” opinions that the media will gaslight the public with, that everyone loves Biden and is so relieved that Trump is out of office. Trump and his supporters must not only be defeated, but also erased, relegated to a four-year blip in history, an anomaly, temporarily interrupting the ruling class’s 16-year plan for the great reset.

Expect this to continue, for as long as Biden remains in the White House, with the only pushback being lawsuits by Project Veritas and declining ratings for left-wing cable news shows. Elected Republicans wring their hands, but are incapable of pushing back.

Turn off the news, award shows, and professional sports. These no longer entertain. They just preach virtue-signaling propaganda, and are as appealing as a nagging mother-in-law. If you love America and the Constitution, if you supported President Trump, or if you are simply minding your own business as a conservative, the ruling class loathes you.

Don’t give them TV ratings or even the time of day. Let them gaslight only themselves and those in their left-wing bubble.

Has Communism come to America under Joe Biden?

A former FBI agent wrote in 1962 a book outlining the strategies communists would use to overthrow America. Are we living through the times foretold in his book?

May 4, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — Seattle was in mayhem last year as a six-block area was occupied by openly communist groups. The police were unwilling to enter the zone, and the Democratic governor was clueless. President Trump warned that he had to take action. Interestingly, we also learned that Heaven foretold there would be a communist takeover of America if Heaven’s warnings were not heeded. It seems that that is happening right before our very eyes under Joe Biden.

LifeSite writer Dr. Maike Hickson has drawn attention to a fascinating interview conducted in 1947 with the last remaining seer of Fatima, Sr. Lucia dos Santos. She was one of the three children of Fatima, Portugal who in 1917 saw the Mother of Christ and received secret messages from Our Lady. The truth of these apparitions was confirmed by a stupendous miracle witnessed by 70,000 people, and photographed and recorded in many newspapers, which involved the sun dancing in the sky.

Sr. Lucia told of how Our Lady had revealed to her that even the United States of America would be overcome by communism if Russia was not consecrated to Her Immaculate Heart by the pope in union with the world’s bishops.

Given what is happening in America right now and what communism is and its goals for America, the account from Sr. Lucia is truly remarkable.

Dr. Hickson wrote at LifeSiteNews of the interview conducted by the well respected American historian and author, William Thomas Walsh. In 1947, Professor Walsh authored a book about Fatima, titled Our Lady of Fatima, at the end of which he recounts an interview he conducted with Sister Lucia of Fatima the year before.

One of the messages of Fatima received by the children in 1917 pertains to the then-impending Bolshevik Revolution in Russia.

“What Our Lady wants is that the Pope and all the bishops in the world shall consecrate Russia to her Immaculate Heart on one special day. If this is done, she will convert Russia and there will be peace. If it is not done, the errors of Russia will spread through every country in the world,” Lucia told Walsh.

“Does this mean,” Walsh then asked, “in your opinion, that every country, without exception, will be overcome by Communism?” And Sister Lucia answered: “Yes.”

The interpreter during the interview, allowing Walsh to converse with Sr. Lucia in her native Portuguese, was Father Manuel Rocha, who later revealed that Walsh had asked explicitly about the United States of America, adding: “And does that mean the United States of America, too?” Whereupon Sister Lucia responded once more: “Yes.”

That is to say, the seer of the apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima, which have been approved by the Catholic Church, predicted that the United States, under certain conditions, would also be overcome by communism.

Dr. Hickson notes that in 1946, Lucia’s response might have sounded somewhat unrealistic, given that it was just after the end of the Second World War and the beginning of the Cold War.

But today we see revolutionary riots in many American cities.

To appreciate how much communism has affected and, some might say, overcome America, requires an appreciation for communism itself and its goals.

Communism is thought mainly to be an economic system competing with capitalism. However, when we really comprehend communism, the spread of Russia’s errors becomes recognizable.

The Naked Communist is the most concise and straightforward source outlining communist goals and ideology. It was written in 1962 by W. Cleon Skousen, a former FBI agent who used many original sources and the best intelligence of the FBI during its investigation of communist infiltration into the United States. He published in the book a list of 45 “current communist goals” that was also recorded in the Congressional Record in 1963. President Ronald Reagan commented on Skousen, saying: “No one is better qualified to discuss the threat to this nation from communism.”

A selection of the goals of communism listed by Skousen serve to illustrate its spread to all nations, especially America. You can find the full list in the Congressional Record (see Appendix, pp. A34–A35 of the House of Representatives of January 10, 1963).

Here are just a few of those goals:

  • Capture one or both of the political parties in the United States
  • Get control of the schools
  • Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda
  • Soften the curriculum
  • Get control of teachers’ associations
  • Put the party line in textbooks

At LifeSite last year, we reported on the case of Rebecca Friedrichs, who spent 28 years teaching in California public schools and was the lead plaintiff in Friedrichs v. California Teachers Association, a 2016 Supreme Court case concerning forced union dues. She detailed how the California Teachers’ Association (CTA) and the National Education Association (NEA), which advocate and donate heavily to a wide range of left-wing causes including abortion and transgenderism, work with far-left groups such as the Women’s March, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), the Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network (GLSEN), and the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States (SIECUS) to “push a radical sexual agenda onto our kids and to punish teachers, parents and students who dare to speak out against it.”

Friedrichs cites the case of Judy Bruns, a Christian teacher in Ohio who took the opportunity at an NEA representative meeting to ask whether the phrase “reproductive freedom” in the group’s resolutions included support for abortion up to delivery and/or partial-birth abortions. Bruns was “mocked and shunned” by the Ohio Education Association’s leaders but got the answer: “We have no restrictions (or limitations).”

Friedrichs also quoted a former teacher and executive director of Christian Educators Association International (CEAI), who she said did some detailed research showing nearly $800,000 of roughly $1 million in donations by the NEA to a 2014 PAC was directed to Planned Parenthood.

The Communist Goals also include:

  • Gain control of all student newspapers
  • Infiltrate the press
  • Get control of book-review assignments, editorial writing, policymaking positions
  • Gain control of key positions in radio, TV, and motion pictures

The whole reason we started LifeSiteNews nearly 25 years ago is that it seemed that almost all the mainstream media had a left-wing, anti-life, and anti-family bias. That situation has only gotten worse. Without Fox News, there wouldn’t be a mainstream conservative television media outlet at all in America.

The Communist Goals continue:

  • Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all forms of artistic expression
  • An American Communist cell was told to “eliminate all good sculpture from parks and buildings, substitute shapeless, awkward and meaningless forms.”
  • Control art critics and directors of art museums. “Our plan is to promote ugliness, repulsive, meaningless art.”

How of us have gone to parks and museums only to be disgusted or at least confused by the ugliness of the so-called art — which, it often seems, our 3-year-old children could do a better job with.

But oh, if you were to breathe such a thought, you’d be labeled a Neanderthal and wholly unsophisticated for not seeing the “deep art” at play.

Other communist goals include:

  • Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them “censorship” and a violation of free speech and free press
  • Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio, and TV

Check, check. Been there, done that. We’re teaching pole-dancing to children now, and the majority of movies today would have been considered pornographic years ago.

Here is another goal of communism:

  • Present homosexuality, degeneracy, and promiscuity as “normal, natural, healthy”

We’ve gone so far in this direction that we’ve made counseling for those wishing to leave the homosexual lifestyle illegal!

And another goal:

  • Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with “social” religion

There can be no more obvious implementation of this than what has been seen in the Catholic Church in the USA over the last half-century.

Listen to these other communist goals:

  • Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity which does not need a “religious crutch”
  • Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate, old-fashioned, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to cooperation between nations on a worldwide basis
  • Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the ground that it violates the principle of “separation of church and state”
  • Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity, masturbation, and easy divorce
  • Emphasize the need to raise children away from the negative influence of parents. Attribute “prejudices, mental blocks, and retarding of children to suppressive influence of parents”
  • Infiltrate and gain control of more unions
  • Infiltrate and gain control of big business

There is so much here to unpack, but I wanted to draw attention to a couple of items that are particularly striking, given the mayhem we’re experiencing in America today. Listen to these two goals:

  • Create the impression that violence and insurrection are legitimate aspects of the American tradition; that students and special-interest groups should rise up and use “united force” to solve economic, political or social problems
  • Transfer some of the powers of arrest from the police to social agencies
  • Treat all behavioral problems as psychiatric disorders which no one but psychiatrists can understand [or treat].

And those two items together are what we’ve witnessed since the riots began with the excuse of the tragic death of George Floyd.

President Trump recently described the situation in America in an eye-opening manner, which exemplifies just how far these communist ideals have entered America, even with the collusion of state governors and mayors.

“They’re actually talking about not having a police force. Well, that’s not happening,” Trump said.

Believe it or not, while all this was going down, six city blocks were seized in Seattle, and a police station was forced to be abandoned. Leftist Governor Jay Inslee of Washington claimed he knew nothing about it.

So it definitely seems as though Our Lady of Fatima’s prophecy of the spreading of Russia’s errors — even in the United States — has come true. But we know that the solution Heaven proposed was the Consecration of Russia and also that that day is coming because she herself said it would be done. After that consecration comes, a never before experienced period of peace will happen. So there is hope in the not too distant future for peace, even though there may well be some tough times to go before we get there.

Here is a full list of the communist goals taken from Skousen’s “The Naked Communist”

1. U.S. acceptance of coexistence as the only alternative to atomic war.

2. U.S. willingness to capitulate in preference to engaging in atomic war.

3. Develop the illusion that total disarmament [by] the United States would be a demonstration of moral strength.

4. Permit free trade between all nations regardless of Communist affiliation and regardless of whether or not items could be used for war.

5. Extension of long-term loans to Russia and Soviet satellites.

6. Provide American aid to all nations regardless of Communist domination.

7. Grant recognition of Red China. Admission of Red China to the U.N.

8. Set up East and West Germany as separate states in spite of Khrushchev’s promise in 1955 to settle the German question by free elections under supervision of the U.N.

9. Prolong the conferences to ban atomic tests because the United States has agreed to suspend tests as long as negotiations are in progress.

10. Allow all Soviet satellites individual representation in the U.N.

11. Promote the U.N. as the only hope for mankind. If its charter is rewritten, demand that it be set up as a one-world government with its own independent armed forces. (Some Communist leaders believe the world can be taken over as easily by the U.N. as by Moscow. Sometimes these two centers compete with each other as they are now doing in the Congo.)

12. Resist any attempt to outlaw the Communist Party.

13. Do away with all loyalty oaths.

14. Continue giving Russia access to the U.S. Patent Office.

15. Capture one or both of the political parties in the United States.

16. Use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American institutions by claiming their activities violate civil rights.

17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers’ associations. Put the party line in textbooks.

18. Gain control of all student newspapers.

19. Use student riots to foment public protests against programs or organizations which are under Communist attack.20. Infiltrate the press. Get control of book-review assignments, editorial writing, and policymaking positions.

21. Gain control of key positions in radio, TV, and motion pictures.

22. Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all forms of artistic expression. An American Communist cell was told to “eliminate all good sculpture from parks and buildings, substitute shapeless, awkward and meaningless forms.”

23. Control art critics and directors of art museums. “Our plan is to promote ugliness, repulsive, meaningless art.”

24. Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them “censorship” and a violation of free speech and free press.

25. Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio, and TV.

26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as “normal, natural, and healthy.”

27. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with “social” religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity which does not need a “religious crutch.”

28. Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the ground that it violates the principle of “separation of church and state.” (Remember these goals were published to expose them in 1958) Coincidence?

29. Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate, old-fashioned, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to cooperation between nations on a worldwide basis.

30. Discredit the American Founding Fathers. Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the “common man.”

31. Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the ground that it was only a minor part of the “big picture.” Give more emphasis to Russian history since the Communists took over.

32. Support any socialist movement to give centralized control over any part of the culture — education, social agencies, welfare programs, mental health clinics, etc.

33. Eliminate all laws or procedures, which interfere with the operation of the Communist apparatus. 34. Eliminate the House Committee on Un-American Activities.

35. Discredit and eventually dismantle the FBI.

36. Infiltrate and gain control of more unions.

37. Infiltrate and gain control of big business.

38. Transfer some of the powers of arrest from the police to social agencies. Treat all behavioral problems as psychiatric disorders which no one but psychiatrists can understand [or treat].

39. Dominate the psychiatric profession and use mental health laws as a means of gaining coercive control over those who oppose Communist goals.

40. Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce.

41. Emphasize the need to raise children away from the negative influence of parents. Attribute prejudices, mental blocks and retarding of children to suppressive influence of parents.

42. Create the impression that violence and insurrection are legitimate aspects of the American tradition; that students and special-interest groups should rise up and use [“]united force[”] to solve economic, political or social problems.

43. Overthrow all colonial governments before native populations are ready for self-government.

44. Internationalize the Panama Canal.

45. Repeal the Connally reservation so the United States cannot prevent the World Court from seizing jurisdiction [over domestic problems. Give the World Court jurisdiction] over nations and individuals alike.

Young Catholics who raised ‘God cannot bless sin’ banner after Vienna church’s promotion of rainbow flag speak

'We thought Alexander Tschugguel's Pachamama action was great,' these young people, who all are around age 24, explained, 'and it showed us that it is sometimes necessary to take action and that it can also have an effect.'

VIENNA, Austria, May 4, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – On April 26, a video showed how several young Catholics in Vienna, Austria placed a banner on the church of St. Rupert's – the oldest church in town – which reads “God cannot bless sin – Roma locutacausa finita [Rome has spoken, the case is closed].” The reason for this initiative was that this church had displayed a rainbow flag in defiance of a recent Vatican document that banned the blessing of homosexual couples.

LifeSite reached out to these young Catholics (see full interview below) who told us that they were greatly inspired by Alexander Tschugguel, the young man who threw the Pachamama statues in the Tiber River in 2019.

“We thought Alexander Tschugguel's Pachamama action was great,” these young people explained, “and it showed us that it is sometimes necessary to take action and that it can also have an effect.”

As LifeSite reported, these young people – all around 24 years of age – decided to take action after they saw the rainbow flag displayed on the church of St. Rupert's in Vienna. They filmed their action, in similar fashion to the now-famous video of Tschugguel and his friends when they removed the Pachamama statues from a Catholic Church in Rome during the October 2019 Amazon Synod and threw them into the Tiber.

The video shows these young people painting the banner with their message, “God cannot bless sin,” which is taken straight out of the March 15, 2021 document of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF). That document stated that the Church cannot bless homosexual couples because “God does not and cannot bless sin.” The Congregation added that it is “not licit to impart a blessing on relationships, or partnerships, even stable, that involve sexual activity outside of marriage (i.e., outside the indissoluble union of a man and a woman open in itself to the transmission of life), as is the case of the unions between persons of the same sex.”

The archbishop of Vienna, Cardinal Christoph Schönborn, subsequently spoke against this CDF document, saying he was “not happy” about it, adding that it “hurts many people to the core.”

The young Viennese who disagreed with him and supported the CDF document with the help of their banner told LifeSite that they took this initiative because they wanted “to remind some Catholic officials what the unchangeable teaching of the Catholic Church is.” They also wanted to “prevent confusion.” In addition, these young Catholics state that these statements in favor of same-sex relationships “are not only harmful to the Church but also – and this is very important to us – to people with a homosexual orientation who are misled by them.”

This group has posted their video on a YouTube channel called Christus vincit and hopes that similar initiatives could be posted on it, too. Their goal is to “defend the Catholic Faith” and to inspire other young men to do the same. One could speak here, once more, of the Tschugguel effect. Courage inspires courage.

As LifeSite reported in October 2020, Tschugguel participated in an event in Rome, at which he and a group of young Catholics of Austria’s St. Boniface Institute gathered in St. Peter’s Square with a banner reading, “Holy Father, we ask for clarity on same-sex unions.” This initiative had been a response to the fact that Pope Francis, in an interview, had shown himself to be supportive of civil unions of same-sex couples.

Please see here the full interview with the Christus vincit group of young Austrian Catholics:

LifeSite: Could you tell us why you did this action, what you hope to achieve with it, if you are planning more such initiatives and if you recommend similar actions to other Catholics in the world?

On the one hand, we wanted to react to the provocation that this [rainbow] flag represents on the oldest church in Vienna, and on the other hand, we wanted to set a sign with the words of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith – God cannot bless sin – in order to remind some Catholic officials what the unchangeable teaching of the Catholic Church is.

Moreover, we think that especially in the present time it is necessary and appropriate to clearly express certain truths in order to prevent confusions. These are not only harmful to the Church but also – and this is very important to us – to people with a homosexual orientation who are misled by them.

We hope that this will possibly cause certain bishops or priests to rethink their position, but we also want to give other Catholics courage and hope. It also shows the public that Catholics don't put up with everything.

Actually, we hope that such actions will no longer be necessary – but if there should be further actions, the intention behind them would be the same: To defend the Catholic faith.

If we can inspire other Catholics to carry out similar actions, of course we think that is good and we are happy about it. However, it should not degenerate into blind activism [“Aktionismus”], even with actions it is important to let reason prevail.

Our YouTube channel “Christus vincit” [“Christ conquers”] could be used as a publication platform for similar initiatives.

LifeSite: How was the reaction to this action in Vienna?

From our environment there was a very positive response to the action, many (also non-Catholics) were pleased that this provocation did not go unanswered. However, the archbishop [Cardinal Christoph Schönborn] has not yet congratulated us.

LifeSite: May we know the average age of your group, and, since you are from Austria, may we ask if you were inspired by the Pachamama initiative of the Austrian Alexander Tschugguel?

We are Catholic friends and all around 24 years old.

We thought Alexander Tschugguel's Pachahama initiative was great and it showed us that it is sometimes necessary to take action and that it can also have an effect.

We believe that especially young men are called to defend the Catholic faith and protect their towns and villages.

The newest redefinition of traditional marriage: ‘platonic marriages’

Now, best friends are getting married, live together, and essentially grant another layer of paperwork to roommate status.

May 4, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — Once upon a time, long, long, ago, marriage was considered a sacred covenant between a man and a woman. It was a relationship sealed before God until death brought separation. It was the context in which sex could be legitimately enjoyed for purposes unitive and procreative. From it flowed the family, which served at the foundation of any successful and prosperous society.

Now, of course, marriage has been hollowed out and reduced to a rider-ridden contract that rarely lasts for life and bears almost no resemblance to the sacred institution it once was. First came no-fault divorce. As always, the abuses that occur within any institution in this fallen world were used to gut it, and millions of homes collapsed as Mom or Dad walked away, leaving devastated children in their wake.

One of the greatest lies of the modern age is the one parents tell themselves about their little children in the wake of a divorce: “My kids want me to be happy.” No, they want you to love each other and be together and to be a family — but that fact is now fiercely denied.

Then, inevitably, marriage was redefined altogether. By the time the LGBT movement got to it, marriage was no longer for life; it was frequently intentionally childless; it was often something pursued exclusively for selfish reasons and discarded when something better came along. Redefining which romantic relationships qualified was not, at that point, much of a leap. After all, most of marriage’s defining characteristics had already been compromised. Why not the complementing and heterosexual nature of the couple?

Now, the New York Times is reporting, we are seeing the final step in reducing marriage to a coldblooded contract: “Platonic marriages,” in which best friends — no matter their sex — get “married” and, naturally, do not consummate the relationship. Consummation of the marriage bond — husband and wife becoming one flesh — has always been considered fundamental to the marriage being fully realized (and historically, there have been all sorts of bizarre traditions to confirm that this has taken place).

The Times gives several examples of best friends who are getting married, living together, and essentially granting another layer of paperwork to roommate status. Some refer to each other as “life partners,” and say they are pursuing marriage because “they want to be legally and socially recognized as a family.” These days, it seems that people want whatever relationship they pursue formally recognized by the state, which has replaced the church as the body that confers legitimacy.

The Times, of course, explained this new trend as the rectification of a previously unknown injustice. “It should be acknowledged that we’ve really normalized heterosexual monogamous romantic relationships to the point of stigmatizing other kinds of relationships,” a Californian family therapist told the Times. “All of this to say, I think this probably happens a lot, but people don’t talk about it much because their relationships are invalidated by others when they’re seen as not being part of the norm.”

In fact, friendships have always been part of the norm. They are just a different sort of relationship than marriage. It is an indication that people still recognize the fundamental importance of marriage that they so desperately wish to apply that label to any relationship they find significant, not realizing that by applying the term “marriage” to these couplings or contractual arrangements they are not actually bestowing more solemnity on them — they are simply gutting marriage of any solemnity it had to bestow in the first place.

Polyamory, polygamy, platonic relationships, same-sex couplings — marriage, now, is whatever people decide it is. Ironically, this is a sad bit of evidence that our culture is desperately trying to hang on to the glimmer of sanctity in the institution it has long since destroyed.

Sen. Josh Hawley gets the last laugh on cancel culture

The more the culture tries to silence us, the more we will get our message out.

By Dr. Michael Brown

May 4, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — Last October, Simon & Schuster, a giant in the publishing industry, announced it would be releasing Sen. Josh Hawley’s book titled The Tyranny of Big Tech. As reported by AP News, Hawley had frequently criticized the various social media giants “for everything from alleged anti-conservative bias to monopolistic control of the online market.”

As Hawley explained, “At a time when these platforms are determining elections, banning inconvenient political views, lining politicians’ pockets with hundreds of millions of dollars, and addicting our kids to screens, I want to draw attention to the robber barons of the modern era. This is the fight to recover America’s populist democracy. That is why I am writing this book.”

The book was targeted for a June 2021 release date, but on January 7, 2021, one day after the storming of the Capitol, which was also one day after Sen. Hawley called for an investigation into claims of election fraud, Simon & Schuster released this statement:

“After witnessing the disturbing, deadly insurrection that took place on Wednesday in Washington, D.C., Simon & Schuster has decided to cancel publication of Senator Josh Hawley’s forthcoming book, THE TYRANNY OF BIG TECH. We did not come to this decision lightly. As a publisher it will always be our mission to amplify a variety of voices and viewpoints: at the same time we take seriously our larger public responsibility as citizens, and cannot support Senator Hawley after his role in what became a dangerous threat to our democracy and freedom.”

So, a book exposing the tyranny of Big Tech got canceled because of a knee-jerk reaction to Hawley’s actions on January 6, actions that were neither dangerous nor unpatriotic. And this happened at the same time that President Trump’s Twitter account was being shut down for life, along with many other conservative accounts being purged. Oh, the irony!

But the story doesn’t end there.

On January 18, 2021, Regnery Books, one of the conservative publishing giants, announced that their company would now be publishing the senator’s book, with a release date of May 2021.

As Mollie Hemingway reported at The Federalist, “Simon and Schuster canceled the book Jan. 7, quickly caving to a pressure campaign organized by leftist activists and making the Missouri Republican one of the highest-profile victims of cancel culture.”

Said Thomas Spence, the president of Regnery Books, “It’s discouraging to see them cower before the ‘woke mob,’ as Senator Hawley correctly calls it. Regnery is proud to stand in the breach with him. And the warning in his book about censorship obviously couldn’t be more urgent.”

Not surprisingly, interest in the book exploded after its cancellation and reinstatement, and now, it has debuted on Amazon as one of the top books in the nation. And, quite appropriately, it is the #1 bestseller in Censorship and Politics on Amazon.

Simon & Schuster inadvertently confirmed Hawley’s concerns, spiking interest in his book rather than drawing attention away from it.

This is how cancel culture backfires. This is how attempts to silence us can ultimately amplify our voices. This is how we push back.

But this is not the first time this has happened, nor will it be the last.

Were you aware of Dr. Jordan Peterson before he suddenly skyrocketed to international fame? Did you know of him when he was a respected but relatively obscure psychology professor at the University of Toronto? Were you one of the rare readers who waded through his serious academic work, Maps of Meaning: The Architecture of Belief, which took him thirteen years to write and which was published in 1999?

That was all before 2016, when quite suddenly and unexpectedly, Peterson became an international bestselling author and a man hailed by some as “the most influential public intellectual in the Western world right now.” What launched him into worldwide fame?

It was when he refused to bow down to the spirit of political correctness in Canada, specifically, being forced to use certain pronouns when addressing transgender-identified people.

When he was asked on TV what would happen if the government required him to comply with its new speech rules, he answered, “If they fine me, I won’t pay it. If they put me in jail, I’ll go on a hunger strike. I’m not doing this. And that’s that. I’m not using the words that other people require me to use. Especially if they’re made up by radical left-wing ideologues.”

But in Peterson’s case, instead of going to jail or being taken to court or being disciplined by his university, Peterson became an overnight sensation.

According to his publisher, his second book “12 Rules for Life has sold over five million copies worldwide and his global book tour has reached more than 250,000 people in 100 different cities.”

His Twitter account now has 1.7 million followers and his YouTube channel has 3.5 million subscribers.

Instead of his voice being silenced, Dr. Peterson’s voice has now been amplified to reach multiplied millions around the globe, providing another graphic example of what can happen when you make a principled decision not to cave in.

I’ve been working on a major book that addresses how we can overcome cancel culture, due out early next year. But suffice it to say now that we should be encouraged by the examples of Sen. Hawley and Dr. Peterson. The more the culture tries to silence us, the more we will get our message out.

We will not be silenced.

The Son of God made flesh can never be separated from His Mother — who is our Mother, too

There is no redemption of man without the motherhood of Mary, and this means, too, that the divine image in man, tarnished by sin, is restored to its original purity only through her maternal hands, and must bear her likeness.

May 4, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — Through the miraculous conception of the Son of God in the womb of the Virgin — the “great thing,” the miracle of miracles, that He who is mighty has done for her — God has given a new beginning to all women. Reflecting on Mary is the best way to give meaning to the observance of Mother’s Day.

“In the fullness of time, God sent His Son, born of woman” (Gal. 4:4). For St. Paul, these two aspects are inseparable: the sending of the Father’s only-begotten Son, and the birth of that same Son in time, in the human nature He took from His Mother. He who has only a Father in His divinity has only a Mother in His humanity. The Person of Jesus Christ, true God and true man, has a heavenly Father and an earthly Mother. Christ brings the grace and truth of God to mankind; in the person of Mary, the first believer, the human race receives Him and responds with a resounding Yes! — Be it done to me, Thy will be done on earth, in Bethlehem, in Egypt, in Nazareth, as it is in heaven, in the Son’s glorious communion with the Father in the Holy Spirit.

Those who adhere to Christ are making their own the solemn fiat of Mary, which in turn echoed another fiat thousands of years earlier: God’s Fiat lux, “Let there be light,” on the first day of creation. It was at the beginning of time that God said Fiat lux, and now, “in the fullness of time, God sent His Son”; and how did He send Him? How did the God by whose command the entire cosmos came into being out of nothing, choose to re-create the world in grace? “God sent His Son, born of woman.” The sun of justice, the dawn of redemption, is ever preceded by the morning star of Israel, Miriam of Nazareth.

There is no redemption of man without the motherhood of Mary, and this means, too, that the divine image in man, tarnished by sin, is restored to its original purity only through her maternal hands, and must bear the likeness of her face and heart, her faith and prayerfulness, her love, her sorrows, and her joys. To the extent that one is becoming more like Christ, one is also becoming more like Mary. The Son is no more to be divided from His Mother than from His Father; only if His human nature could be severed from His divinity and consigned to oblivion would it ever come about that Mary should cease to play her singular role in the economy of salvation. As He has ever been and will ever be the unique Son resting in the bosom of the Father, so from the moment of the Incarnation, He will always be the Son of the Virgin, and she the woman “full of grace.”

At the Annunciation, Mary receives her Son not only in the capacity of an individual woman but also as a representative of humanity, remarks St. Thomas (Summa theologiae III.30.1). Her ecce ancilla Domini, “Behold the handmaid of the Lord,” is the definitive human answer to the proud non serviam with which the ages have echoed since the Fall of Lucifer and the Fall of Adam.

When the Father sent His Son to the lowly handmaid, He entrusted the sublime mystery of the Trinity, the long-hidden secret of His Divine Being, to her Immaculate Heart. When Gabriel explains how the conception will take place, the mystery of the Three in One is for the first time openly revealed. In her lowliness, a humility born of hunger for God and awareness of His greatness, Mary is ready to drink in the knowledge of His being, and to receive abundantly the love which is His inner life. God reveals Himself to Mary as Love, both imminently — within the everlasting communion of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — and towards the world, ad extra: love in Three Persons, One of Whom is sent to save the world from eternal suffering.

Christ’s “follow Me” is the call to throw off the shackles of death, to participate in the divine life of love, to achieve the union of friendship with God, in whom man’s dignity is found, apart from whom nothing is good, nothing holy. This call, and the command to love even as Christ did, is unique to Christianity: “by this love shall men know that you are my disciples.” It is Mary’s fiat that gives fallen humanity the opportunity to partake of all these graces, to drink deeply of this “new wine” given by Christ “in the fullness of time” (cf. Jn. 2:1–11).

Moreover, “Mary, the woman of the Bible, is the most complete expression of this dignity and vocation” to follow Christ, to bear Him within a loving heart (Mulieris Dignitatem [MD] §17). Mary is pre-eminently “blessed among women,” not only in the singular privilege of her divine Motherhood, but also in her singularly perfect following of her Son. She is the exemplar of the disciple, the one who follows and is taught. Even as the Word is the perfect Image of the Father, so Mary is the perfect image of the Son. And just as Jesus gives mankind access to the Father, so Mary leads us always and only to her Son, whom she loves with an ardor that dazzles even the Seraphim.

While it is true that God sent His Son to the whole world (cf. Jn. 3:16), Christ was given first and most interiorly in the unrepeatable relationship of mother and child. “It is not just a matter here of God’s words revealed through the prophets; rather with this response [Mary’s fiat], the Word is truly made flesh. Hence, Mary attains a union with God that exceeds all the expectations of the human spirit” (MD §12). This gift is unique to the one woman who is truly the Mother of Jesus and hence the Mother of God (Theotokos); yet the gift has repercussions in all of feminine humanity. Since women are able to follow Mary either as consecrated virgins or as dedicated mothers, they share the glory with which God has blessed those states through their perfection in the Virgin Mother.

The Son of God could have come to us in many ways, for the power of God is no less infinite than His creativity. He could have formed a body for Himself out of the slime of the earth, as He did when creating Adam; He could have simply decreed that a fully mature body come to be ex nihilo. He chose, in His wisdom and love, to become man through the path of human birth; He chose to be the Son of Mary, Filius Mariae.

This was, however, no ordinary conception and birth, but a miraculous one, taking place in and from a virgin. In the one person of Mary, motherhood and virginity are united, each in its full glory, indicating the convergence of these two exemplary forms of womanly service (cf. MD §64). Each of these vocations is essentially both a gift of self and the entrusting of others to the woman’s care, through physical or spiritual motherhood (or both). Mary, as the archetypal woman, shows us the true meaning of woman’s vocation to give birth, to nurture and protect life.

Mary, the Mother of God, brought Christ into the world: she is the one who gave Him to us. To bring Christ into the world is the vocation of every Christian in keeping with his particular vocation; but for women it takes the special form of conceiving, giving birth, nurturing and protecting life, and interceding for others, striving to bring forth “the hidden man of the heart” (cf. 1 Pet. 3:4).

Can we not say that this mystery and miracle of Christ’s coming into the world is distantly reflected in every new child created by God; in every birth, whether physical or spiritual; in every lesson at a mother’s knee or prayer of intercession? For not only is each soul entrusted to a mother who thus reduplicates Mary’s love (and thus expresses God’s love for the child), but each soul bears within it an actual or potential likeness of Christ. “Whoever receives one of these little ones in My Name, receives Me” (Mk. 9:37).
