OTTAWA, Ontario, June 9, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) says it has an “urgent” need to create an “Office of Biometrics and Identity Management” that could be used to verify the vaccine status of all Canadian and foreign travelers who enter the country.

A tender notice or Notice of Proposed Procurement (NPP) posted to the Public Services and Procurement Canada website on June 7 states that the CSBA already has three companies with experience in the biometrics field who are interested to set up the new “biometrics” office.

Recently, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told reporters that travel restrictions will be eased for those who are fully "vaccinated.” The CSBA NPP was posted only shortly before this announcement.

“The Agency requires this organization to assist with the immediate establishment of an Office of Biometrics and Identity Management and to work with the Agency in researching, planning for and rapidly developing a strategy and roadmap related to the use of Digital solutions enabled by supporting technologies in biometrics, in response to the COVID 19 situation and other operational priorities,” reads the tender notice, which is active until June 21.

The tender notice goes on to note that the chosen “contractor” will bring its “knowledge, capabilities, and experience to support CBSA’s urgent need to establish a biometric strategy, biometric foundation and ultimately a Biometrics Authority (Centre of Excellence).”

Specifically, the CSBA is looking for the “contractor” to assist them in the “development of a comprehensive approach and plan to manage, evolve and adapt in using biometrics.”

The tender notice states that the “contractor” will help the CSBA to “deliver the mission of the agency while considering our interrelationship and joint ventures with other federal government departments and agencies and our international partners.”

A person’s biometric information can be in the form fingerprints or an eye scan, and unlike a paper credential are highly personal.

According to a Canadian Press report, Tamir Israel, who works at the Canadian Internet Policy and Public Interest Clinic in Ottawa, said that while he “welcomes” the use of biometrics, they can pose potential privacy risks.

“I am deeply concerned at the substantial increase in biometric use that this procurement document implies. Biometric recognition and identity can be highly intrusive, and we have seen significant pressure to adopt facial recognition technologies in particular at border crossings," said Israel.

The timing of the NPP for the creation of an “Office of Biometrics and Identity Management” comes only a week after the Canadian COVID-19 Testing and Screening Expert Advisory Panel said the federal government should look to begin work on a system to “validate proof of vaccination for arriving travelers as soon as possible.”

The panel recommended that Canada end its mandatory and controversial COVID-19 two-week quarantine hotel program.

This hotel quarantine program is currently the center of a lawsuit against the government on behalf of multiple parties who are being assisted by the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms (JCCF).

Today, Health Minister Patty Hajdu said that as soon as early July, Canadians who have had the full two doses of a COVID-19 shot do not have to quarantine for 14 days as long as they produce a negative test.

Intergovernmental Minister Dominic LeBlanc said Wednesday that Canadians can expect soon "more of an idea about” what is to come with the new rules, but the "vaccination is key.”

"The first phase we’re considering now is aimed at allowing fully vaccinated individuals who are authorized to enter the country to be able to cross the border without having to stay in a government-authorized accommodation," said LeBlanc

The news came only a day after Trudeau said Canada is looking to ease border restrictions, but only for those who had been “fully vaccinated.”

CONTACT YOUR MPs: Oppose cross-border travel restrictions based on vaccination! Click to contact your MPs now.

“In the weeks to come, we will have more to say about the measures that we could relax for people who have had two doses,” said Trudeau to reporters on Tuesday.

“It’s very clear that even though one dose has allowed us to significantly protect Canadians, to remove many of the pressures from our public health systems, it is still an incomplete protection and we need people to get the full two doses of their vaccines and that’s why easing of restrictions will be focused on Canadians who are fully vaccinated.”

Trudeau said everyone should get “double vaccinated” with two doses of a COVID-19 jab, as the “science” says that is the best way to fight COVID-19, ”particularly when it comes to some of the new variants of concern, like the delta variant,” said Trudeau.

Trudeau said yesterday that the full details of easing border measures will be announced at a later date.

A Canadian Press report says the Trudeau Liberals were expected today to announce that those who have had two doses of the COVID-19 jab will no longer have to quarantine for a 14-day period.

Since early January, the Canadian federal government has required all air travelers coming into Canada to present a negative PCR or LAMP COVID-19 test to their airline before being allowed to board the flight. Even with a negative test, one has to stay in a government-approved hotel for three days, after which they can go home if they test negative for COVID-19.

Today’s new rules waive the three-day hotel stay for those who have had the COVID-19 jab, but they still must test negative.

Trudeau recently said his government is “right now” working on “certificates of vaccination” for travel with its allies, saying they are to be “expected.”

Recently, Trudeau’s office claimed that a “broad consensus” has been reached among the nation’s premiers working to create “a proof of vaccine credential” system for travel.

Lawyer says government ‘cannot’ deny activities and services to those who choose not to get the jab

Kindle Pejovic, a lawyer for the JCCF, told LifeSiteNews that the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms prevents the government from denying “activities and services to those who choose not to receive the experimental COVID-19 vaccine for medical, religious, or philosophical reasons. The more entrenched this separation of society becomes based on vaccination status, the more ostracized the unvaccinated citizens will become.”

LifeSiteNews reported  that Manitoba officially launched an immunization card program for those who have “received both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine,” allowing the vaccinated freedom over those who choose not to get the experimental shots.

The announcement came a month after a source within the Manitoba government warned LifeSiteNews about it

The source told LifeSiteNews that he believes the main reason for the card is for travel.

“Requiring the use of this service will undoubtedly further segregate people and create a ‘lesser class’ of sorts,” the source told LifeSiteNews.

Health Canada has authorized four COVID-19 injections for adults, all with connections to abortion. All of them have been associated with severe side effects such as blood clots, rashes, miscarriages, and even heart attacks in young healthy men.

Currently, no Canadian province has implemented any type of “vaccine passport.” However, most allow people to access their vaccine status online.

In May, Quebec began to send as “electronic proof” a vaccination confirmation in the form of a QR code to those who had received a COVID-19 jab.

Thus far, conservative premiers in Alberta, Ontario, and Saskatchewan have not yet publicly spoken out in favor of or in full opposition to so-called “vaccine passports.”

In April, the JCCF released a powerful video highlighting concerns surrounding COVID-19 “vaccine passports,” and the mandatory vaccinations being touted by some provincial governments.

Important new documentary asks ‘What’s the rush to reassign gender?’ in children

'There’s no other area of medicine where we just charge ahead on an ideological basis without investigating the safety and efficacy of treatments,' noted the mother of transgender identifying children.

June 9, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) – An about-to-be-released video documentary challenges the widely-accepted notion that children should be free to choose their gender, often with the help of government ‘protective’ agencies, their schools, and medical practitioners and against the will of their loving parents.

“There are doctors in the U.S. who will go to work today and oversee the chemical castration of little boys, who will put 14-year-old girls into menopause, and give troubled young girls cosmetic mastectomies,” says Natasha Chart, executive director of the Women’s Liberation Front, at the outset of the short trailer for Trans Mission: What’s the Rush to Reassign Gender?

The trailer points out that parents of children expressing gender dysphoria to any degree are often issued dire warnings such as “Your child is going to commit suicide unless you let us put them on puberty blockers,” or asked intimidating, leading questions like “Do you want a LIVE son or a DEAD daughter?”

One mother in the trailer recounts a troubling exchange with a pediatrician: “She said that if I didn’t affirm my daughter’s identity and I didn’t get her the help that she needed – and she killed herself – I was going to feel awfully guilty.”

“The reason I’m being difficult in this is not because I don’t love her,” continues the mother.  “It’s because I love her so much that I am willing to take on this whole ideology just to protect her from potentially making an irreversible decision.”

“I have two children who are currently trans-identified,” Lynn Meagher, another mom featured in the documentary, told LifeSiteNews. “They have been taught by trans-influencers that because I can’t be a cheerleader for (their gender-transitioning) then I’m a ‘toxic bigot.’” As a result, her children have walked out of her life. “We’re currently estranged, and I’m very concerned for their lives, for their health, and for their safety.”

“There’s a lot of fear among a lot of parents that our kids are ultimately going to be harmed by this, not helped,” said Meagher, who started a support group for parents. “I found there are many, many parents all over the world who are really struggling with this, and can’t find a safe place to even talk about it.”

“There’s no other area of medicine where we just charge ahead on an ideological basis without investigating the safety and efficacy of treatments,” noted Meagher, a retired registered nurse.  “That conversation has been shut down because when we try to have it, we’re just screamed at.”

Despite the silencing of many concerned medical practitioners, there are doctors willing to speak out against gender affirmation treatments for kids.

“There is no long-term evidence showing gender affirmation therapy reduces suicide,” explains Dr. Andre Van Mol, a family physician and co-chair of the American College of Pediatrician’s Committee on Adolescent Sexuality, in the video.

“It’s not there,” he emphasized.

“The reality is, we don’t have any long-term studies on children,” cautions another doctor, “and there’s very good reason to be concerned about the outcome.”

BigPharma luring children into a lifetime of pharmaceutical dependence

The documentary is produced by the Center for Bioethics and Culture Network (CBC), which up until now has focused primarily on issues surrounding the often troubling practices found in the fertility industry, surrogacy and women’s rights, and maternal bonding.

“Our reasons for entering into this particular debate are numerous but all equally important,” explained CBC founder Jennifer Lahl in a published statement. “Underscoring all of them are the pharmaceutical industry that continually capitalizes off peoples’ desperation without regard for long-term consequences and the corruption of ‘do no harm’ medicine.

“First, ‘men’ started having babies. Then ‘trans women’ started wanting uterine transplants,” said Lahl. “Then BigPharma started luring children into a lifetime of pharmaceutical dependence via puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones that will render these children permanently sterile before they are even old enough to pierce their ears without parental consent. Doctors will go to work today to perform elective double mastectomies on 15-year-old girls.”

“Did you know that when these children medically and surgically ‘transition,’ they are offered ‘fertility preservation’ so if they want, they can freeze their eggs and sperm to use after they’ve been rendered infertile?” she asked. “If these young girls freeze their eggs before they opt for hysterectomies, who will carry their embryos for their surrogate pregnancies later? Whose sperm will fertilize them? If these males freeze their sperm during transition, whose eggs will they fertilize? Who will gestate these embryos? I hope you can see the connections between the work we have been doing and now this expansion of #BigFertility.”

“We focus on science, technology, medicine, law and a lot around assisted reproduction,” said Lahl. “Our position is never about partisan politics; it’s about the ethical implications people tend to gloss over en route to their desired ends. Bad ideas create victims. Our job at the CBC is to question and challenge bad ideas before people get hurt.”

Beginning June 17, the full documentary, Trans Mission: What’s the Rush to Reassign Gender?, can be viewed via free streaming on CBC’s YouTube channel and Vimeo page.

EXCLUSIVE: Chiropractor targeted by FTC for selling vitamin D, zinc to fight the coronavirus speaks out

‘I'm not just standing up for myself, I'm standing up for my patients, I'm standing up for other doctors who have been oppressed and suppressed,’ Chiropractor Dr. Eric Nepute told LifeSiteNews. ‘I just cannot let my children grow up in a world where medical tyranny rules.’

ST. LOUIS, Missouri, June 9, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — Amidst an atmosphere of sweeping censorship by Big Media and Big Tech, along with a smattering of government intimidation, a highly accomplished chiropractor has pledged to defend himself in a lawsuit levied by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) which claims he and his company, Quickwork LLC, have participated in deceptive marketing practices regarding the prevention and treatment of COVID-19.

“I'm not just standing up for myself, I'm standing up for my patients, I'm standing up for other doctors who have been oppressed and suppressed,” Dr. Eric Nepute told LifeSiteNews in an exclusive interview. “I just cannot let my children [and grandchildren] … grow up in a world where medical tyranny rules.”

The lawsuit filed by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) on behalf of the FTC charges Nepute with violating the COVID-19 Consumer Protection Act (CCPA) which was passed last December and renders it illegal “to engage in deceptive marketing related to the treatment, cure, prevention, mitigation, or diagnosis of COVID–19,” according to an FTC statement.

The FTC claims Nepute and his company deceptively marketed “products containing vitamin D and zinc as scientifically proven to treat or prevent COVID-19,” and as being “as, or more, effective than vaccines that are currently available.”

Thomas Renz, who was also part of the interview and has been the lead attorney in several major cases across the country related to COVID-19 lockdowns, mask mandates, business closures, and more, responded directly citing the website of the National Institute of Health (NIH) which itself acknowledges the relationship between zinc and a healthy immune system in several places. As stated here, the NIH website affirms that zinc “deficiency depresses both innate and adaptive immune responses.”

Also from the website, Renz read, “Vitamin D has other roles in the body, including … [proper] immune function.”

Pointing out how NIH reportedly owns half of the patent for the Moderna injections, Renz asked, “Why do you think that they're promoting the vaccine and suppressing what people like [Nepute] are saying? It's on their website, that vitamin D affects the immune system. It's on their website that zinc affects the immune system. And yet they're going to say that [Nepute] shouldn't be saying that zinc and vitamin D might affect your immune system in a positive way?! They're saying it! How is it a violation of the law for him to say it?! It's not. They just want to suppress anything they can with this because they need to push this stinking poison [the experimental vaccines] into as many people's arms as they can… this is one of the most corrupt, egregious violations of rights I've ever seen.”

With regards to the FTC’s charge that Missouri-based primary care provider encouraged others to not receive the gene-therapy vaccine due to its not stopping the spread of COVID-19, Nepute said, “The vaccine doesn't stop the spread of COVID-19. It says it in the EUA [Emergency Use Authorization]. It says it in Moderna’s papers, it said it in Pfizer's papers. COVID-19 are symptoms. SARS-CoV-2 is the virus. It doesn't attack the virus. It only attacks the spike protein.”

‘The federal government is trying to put a gag order on me’

In this first legal action under the new CCPA, the FTC is seeking to “to impose monetary penalties on Nepute and Quickwork, and to grant a preliminary injunction against the defendants,” including prohibiting their “making such health claims unless they are true and can be substantiated by competent and reliable scientific evidence. The Commission also seeks to bar the defendants from falsely claiming to have scientific evidence about the effects of vitamin D and zinc on COVID-19.”

“I would love to talk about the science, the journals, the medical papers that support my claims. But right now, the federal government is trying to put a gag order on me so that I can't discuss that stuff,” Nepute said.

“The things the federal government are accusing me of are absolutely unbelievable. When you look at the science,” he said. “We are pushing back so that we can actually get the science out to the people.”

With a touch of irony, Nepute highlighted that “everything we've talked about … from the beginning of COVID-19 has completely become true, totally true, [based on] science and not opinion. But the other side is basing their decisions off of the opinions of other people.”

“We could easily do a walk away, take a settlement that they offered and just take a slap on the wrist … [and] act like nothing ever happened,” he shared prior to recording. “But we can't do that.”

“[With our legal defense] we will be able to prove without a shadow of a doubt that the-powers-that-be weaponized the federal government to suppress, silence and censor doctors,” he said. And, therefore, “the goal is to stop censorship. Censorship literally kills people. ‘Without knowledge, My people will perish,’” Nepute said, referencing Hosea 4:6.

In April, Dr. Peter MCullough testified that had censorship not occurred regarding effective early treatments such as ivermectin, zinc, and vitamin D for COVID-19, 85 percent of the “over 500,000 deaths in the United States” could have been saved. Dr. Simone Gold from America’s Frontline Doctors concurred with Nepute’s conclusion on this matter affirming that over the last year, it’s a demonstrable that, “Censorship kills.”

Click HERE to help Dr. Eric Nepute in his legal battle!

“There are well over three hundred plus documented hospitals and facilities across the country that use [vitamin] D, zinc, ivermectin, etc. in their protocols,” Nepute said in defense of his recommending the same. “And the Department of Defense also uses it in the VA systems across the country. I don't know how you back-out of that fact.”

FTC lacks legal authority: Supreme Court

After giving his opinion that the FTC’s lawsuit was – based on its merits – “terrible” and “heading into the toilet if you’re the federal government,” Renz said that a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision ruled that the FTC does not have authority to seek the enormous monetary penalties they are levying against Nepute and Quickwork.

A week following FTC’s April 15 announcement charging Nepute with violating of the CCPA, the U.S. Supreme Court issued their 9-0 decision on AMG Capital Management LLC v. FTC, which ruled that the law does not permit the Commission to seek such fines from businesses.

“They've come after us for almost eight million dollars,” Nepute explained. “That's ridiculous that they're trying to come after us for that. And by the way, all because there's two paragraphs that was passed in this omnibus law [in December], five thousand plus pages that nobody read the whole thing.”

Trying to make an example of him

“I mean, they're doing so many things to scare doctors, to not talk about [these important heath issues],” he said.

When asked if he thought the federal government was simply trying to intimidate and silence doctors with this lawsuit, Renz said “Absolutely, in my opinion, they are absolutely doing that. I think what they're doing is nothing more than trying to make an example out of him [Nepute].”

In 2012, an Obama administration official, Al Armendariz, was forced to resign after proposing that his agency, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), should adopt a policy of “crucifying” random citizens in order to terrorize the population into compliance with harsh regulations.

Armendariz said, “The Romans used to conquer little villages in the Mediterranean. They’d go into a little Turkish town somewhere, they’d find the first five guys they saw and they would crucify them. And then you know that town was really easy to manage for the next few years."

As one commentator observed, this “official’s rant confirms what many of us already knew about the Obama Administration: they imagine themselves to be the rulers of conquered territories populated by restless barbarians who must be subjugated at any cost, complete with indiscriminate and severe exemplary punishments.”

A call for Christian unity and help to stop a government takeover of medicine

Reflecting on Nepute’s situation, Renz said, “it's scary when someone like the federal government who has infinite money and infinite resources says, ‘I'm coming after you, I'm going after you, and I'm going to after you hard.’ That's scary. I mean, you know, I feel terrible for what he's dealing with. It's absolutely horrendous.”

“He took an oath to do no harm. He is doing what he believes is right. He's doing what he believes is moral. And I'm going to tell you the courage it takes to stand up against this” is enormous, he said.

“For a non-attorney to stand up to these guys the way that he is and to say, ‘Listen, I’ve got to stand for what's right for my patients, for my people,’ [is extraordinary]. I beg everyone listening to this, please support this guy,” said the Ohio attorney. “This has to be a line in the sand. This has to be! If our doctors are not capable of taking care of our health without political interference, without buyoffs, without corruption, where are we left?”

“The issue here is the takeover of medicine, the politicization of your health, the fact that your life is no more than an opportunity for someone to earn a few extra bucks. We have got to take a stand. We have got to support each other. We've got to come together,” Renz stressed.

Assessing his predicament, Nepute said, “What I've got that's powerful is God on my side. There's no question about it. And we’ve got facts and we got faith. We're going to win with that. But the federal government has unlimited resources. They literally just print more money to go after us. And what they'll do is they'll try to drag this out into court for years and years and years and just try to drain us dry from it.

“So [for] people that want to help support, here's what you can do. We have a website. It's real simple: StopMedicalTyranny.com. They can go there. They can learn how to donate,” he said.

“And if we get to that point and everybody watching can help support this and help us stop this medical tyranny, we're going to be able to get this information to the masses. And what's going to happen when people find out the absolute truth of what's really going on, is literally the whole house of cards is going to crumble,” he concluded.

June 9, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – The U.S. Department of Defense announced last week that it will keep a policy enacted under President Donald Trump banning LGBT “pride” flags at U.S. military bases.

“After some careful consideration, the department will maintain the existing policy from July of 2020 regarding the display or depiction of unofficial flags,” department spokesman John Kirby said Friday. “There won’t be an exception made this month for the Pride flag.”

Guidance on flags authorized last year by then-Defense Secretary Mark Esper was meant to prohibit the Confederate flag, though it also applies to other symbols, including homosexual “pride” flags.

The Pentagon will maintain the Trump-era policy due to “concern about other challenges,” Kirby said. The move was not intended to reflect “any lack of respect or admiration” for “the LGBTQ+ community,” he assured the press.

The Biden administration’s State Department, by contrast, employs much looser guidance, with U.S. embassies hoisting the “pride” flag across the world this month, including at the Holy See, with approval from Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.

Blinken also has granted embassies “blanket written authorization for calendar 2021” to fly the “Black Lives Matter” flag, as several have done already.

It remains unclear whether Joe Biden will challenge the Defense Department’s decision. While a candidate for president, Biden promised that he would allow “pride” flags at military facilities. “Banning the LGBTQ Pride flag — the very symbol of diversity and inclusion — is undeniably wrong,” he said last July. “The Pentagon should ensure it is authorized, or as President, I will.”

June 9, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — In this episode of The Van Maren Show, Jonathon interviews Danish journalist Iben Thranholm about the revival of Christianity and traditional values in Russia, as well as the growing secularism and wokeism in the West and the ramifications of the coronavirus pandemic and lockdowns.

Besides being a popular columnist and reporter in Denmark, Thranholm is a theologian and convert to Catholicism from the Lutheran Church. As a journalist, she has written extensively on Russia and on how Christianity is reviving in old Communist countries ever since the fall of the Soviet Union. After visiting Moscow several years ago, she describes how symbols of Christianity are openly expressed in the public sphere.

Thranholm highlights how many people in the West believe Russia still is evil. She says that people have not been told by the mainstream media that Christian, Western civilization and Russia share many cultural roots in the faith. “[The Russian people] just want to rebuild their Russian culture … and the heart of Russian culture is Orthodoxy.”

Thranholm discusses the growing influence of “woke” culture and the transformation of gender roles in the West. She says that in Denmark traditional roles for men and women have become so distorted “that every second marriage in my country will end in a divorce.” She states that Russia has become very attractive to people because it has revived a sense of moral values, similar to 1950s America, with an “old traditional lifestyle.”

Lastly, Thranholm talks about how COVID-19 has become the new “false religion.” She points out that other ideologies have also been turned into “religions,” including the climate change movement. She says that the culture has easily accepted coronavirus regulations because it “is not now driven by faith, but by fear.”

Ohio bill would ban critical race theory, protect teachers from being forced to push gender dogma

HB 322 forbids school officials from requiring that educators 'discuss current events or widely debated and currently controversial issues of public policy or social affairs.'

June 9, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — Ohio is the latest state in which lawmakers have introduced legislation to ban the teaching of far-left critical race theory (CRT) in public schools, this time with the added step of protecting a teacher’s right to refuse to promote gender-fluid ideology.

HB 322 forbids school officials from requiring that educators “discuss current events or widely debated and currently controversial issues of public policy or social affairs” (and requires that teachers who choose to do so “strive to explore such issues from diverse and contending perspectives”); requiring students to engage in political lobbying or protesting for class credit; or teaching that any race or sex is inherently superior, shameful, or oppressive, that members of different races shouldn’t engage each other in a color-blind manner, that present members of one race bear responsibility for the past crimes of others, that hard work is a concept inherently belonging to or at odds with any one races, or that slavery was not merely a grievous sin of past Americans, but was fundamentally intertwined with the United States’ founding principles.

It also bars school districts from accepting private funds for the purpose of “curriculum development, purchase or selection of curricular materials, teacher training, professional development, or continuing teacher education” on history, civics, or politics-related subjects; and ensures that teachers cannot be forced to “affirm a belief in the systemic nature of racism, or like ideas, or in the multiplicity or fluidity of gender identities, or like ideas, against the teacher’s sincerely held religious or philosophical convictions.”

“The government is giving that to teachers as a kind of ‘save yourself’ from getting fired for not believing in transgender rights,” LGBT activist Daniel Tirabassi complained to CBS affiliate WKBN. But one of the bill’s authors, Republican state Rep. Don Jones, responded that “HB 322 is an anti-discrimination bill that promotes equality. Anything to the contrary is wrong. The bill also reinforces teachers’ basic rights that they not be compelled by the government to adopt any belief systems and indoctrinate their students with those teachings.”

The bulk of the new language is meant to quash the taxpayer-subsidized propagation of critical race theory, a doctrine that asserts race is a “socially constructed (culturally invented) category that is used to oppress and exploit people of colour,” and that “law and legal institutions in the United States are inherently racist insofar as they function to create and maintain social, economic, and political inequalities between whites and nonwhites, especially African Americans.”

Critical race theory’s spread in public schools has been a topic of growing concern on the Right. Conservatives argue that it stokes racial divisions rather than healing them; former President Donald Trump worked to remove it from federal training programs and publicly advocated its removal from public education. One of President Joe Biden’s first acts was to dismantle Trump’s 1776 Commission, an antidote to the race-minded, error-riddled 1619 Project that called for educational curricula focused on teaching students to understand and embrace the founding principles of the United States.

Canadian lawyer says Manitoba’s new ‘immunization card’ is type of ‘vaccine passport’

‘This vaccine passport system creates a two-tiered society whereby those who have chosen to be vaccinated are treated differently and discriminatorily compared to those who have not chosen to get the vaccine.’

June 9, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — A lawyer from a top Canadian constitutional legal firm characterized the province of Manitoba’s new “immunization card” program as a “vaccine passport” which will be used to coerce people to “take an experimental vaccine” in order to regain lost freedoms.

“Manitoba’s new immunization card program is, in reality, a vaccine passport. The government took Manitobans’ freedoms away, and now it is saying that in order to get those freedoms back, Manitobans must take an experimental vaccine,” said Allison Kindle Pejovic, a lawyer for the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms (JCCF) to LifeSiteNews.

Yesterday, the Premier of Manitoba Brian Pallister officially launched an immunization card program for those who have received both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine. The new immunization card allows the vaccinated more freedom over those who choose not to get the experimental shots.

The announcement came a month after a source within the Manitoba government warned LifeSiteNews readers about it.

Kindle Pejovic told LifeSiteNews that Manitoba’s “immunization card” has in effect created a “two-tiered society” of those who have got vaccinated, and those who have chosen not to, which could lead to discrimination.

“This vaccine passport system creates a two-tiered society whereby those who have chosen to be vaccinated are treated differently and discriminatorily compared to those who have not chosen to get the vaccine,” said Kindle Pejovic. “The unvaccinated will have to continue to quarantine for two weeks in Manitoba after returning from interprovincial travel and will be restricted from visiting friends and family in the hospital or at long-term care home settings. Those who are vaccinated will not.”

Those with the cards will be allowed to visit family in hospitals or other health care facilities and skip a mandated two-week quarantine upon entering the province. The card will be available to people who currently have a Manitoba health card, which is the only provincial health care insurance program available.

Manitobans who want the card must visit a specific government website, and “once someone has successfully completed the online request, they will automatically receive access to a digital card” in the form of a QR code. A physical card can be requested, as well.

Lawyer says government cannot deny activities and services to those who choose not to get the jab

Kindle Pejovic told LifeSiteNews that the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms prevents the government from denying those who have chosen not to get the jab from accessing important services.

“The government cannot under the Charter deny activities and services to those who choose not to receive the experimental COVID-19 vaccine, for medical, religious, or philosophical reasons. The more entrenched this separation of society becomes based on vaccination status, the more ostracized the unvaccinated citizens will become,” said Kindle Pejovic.

She noted that with a “vaccine passport” system in place, those who are unvaccinated might be “bullied, isolated from friends and family, and … unable to lead normal lives.”

“What is most perplexing about this system is that from a science-based perspective, it is being forced upon people who most likely have a 99.77% chance of recovery from COVID-19, and who may already have natural immunity. Further, these vaccines do not prevent someone from acquiring or transmitting COVID-19 to others,” Kindle Pejovic said.

She explained that in addition to several U.S. states, even Israel abandoned its “Green Pass” vaccine passport system: “Vaccine passports are tyrannical, unnecessary, and a gross violation of Manitobans’ Charter rights. It is disappointing that Manitoba has not followed the lead of freedom-respecting Governors in the U.S. and rejected the vaccine passport.”

Manitoba source says his province’s “immunization card” is similar to what was used in Nazi Germany

The source who works within the Manitoba government who first told LifeSiteNews about the “immunization card” program a month ago compared such a system to the classic “papers, please” in Nazi Germany.

“To give an example and compare the effects of this to something else, this is a classic ‘papers please’ situation like we've seen in Nazi Germany, except instead of just the persecuted wearing a ‘yellow star,’ everyone is wearing a star, their phone and/or physical immunization card, that basically describes whether or not they are ‘safe’ from the perspective of the ‘approved authority’ based off of an arbitrary now former private aspect of their life [health information],” he said.

“Those who are deemed ‘safe’ get enjoy some privileges in the form of their previously usurped rights, while all others continue to be treated as less than human and have more of their freedoms forcefully taken away.”

“Requiring the use of this service will undoubtedly further segregate people and create a ‘lesser class’ of sorts,” the source told LifeSiteNews yesterday.

“I don’t know if the Government is going to mandate this themselves or leave it up to individual businesses to decide, but either way usage of this service will only serve as a means to subject people to more unwarranted, publicly sanctioned discrimination.”

Just recently, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) put out a tender notice to “secure the services” of a “global organization” with experience in the biometrics field to create an “Office of Biometrics and Identity Management” to be used to validate a traveler's vaccination status.

In a press conference yesterday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that Canada is looking to ease border restrictions soon, but only for those who had been “fully vaccinated.”

“In the weeks to come, we will have more to say about the measures that we could relax for people who have had two doses,” said Trudeau to reporters Tuesday.

Today, Canada’s Health Minister Patty Hajdu said that as soon as early July, Canadian citizens who have had the full two doses of a COVID-19 shot do not have to quarantine for 14 days or stay in a hotel for three days upon arrival, but they still have to be tested.

Intergovernmental Minister Dominic LeBlanc said today that Canadians can expect “more of an idea about” what is to come with the new rules soon, but added that “vaccination is key.”

New poll: 71% of Democrats believe healthy people should stay home ‘as much as possible’

Among Democrats, worries about the spread of COVID-19 are still dominant.

WASHINGTON, June 9, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — A Gallup poll published June 4 shows that 71 percent of Democrat voters “believe people should stay home as much as possible” in order to “stop the spread” of COVID-19, regardless of whether they are healthy and have no symptoms of the coronavirus.

The poll showed that this number is down 14 points from April when as much as 85 percent of Democrats said even healthy people should still remain in their homes, as opposed to “leading normal lives as much as possible.”

On average, though, the number of people polled who answered that individuals should “lead normal lives” marginally surpassed those who answered that they should “stay home as much as possible” by 56 percent to 44 percent, the first time “living normally” has been a majority position in Gallup’s polling since March 2020. At that time, Gallup found that 91 percent of people polled recommended staying at home to “prevent the spread of the virus,” even if healthy.

The slight statistical edge on “normality” emerged recently thanks to 87 percent of Republicans and 64 percent of independents saying they would recommend healthy people to live normal lives, compared with only 29 percent of Democrats.

Democrat hesitancy about “living normal lives as much as possible” comes despite the same poll finding that 66 percent of Americans feel their lives are at least “somewhat,” if not “completely,” back to normal.

Unsurprisingly, Democrats polled the lowest in terms of feeling as though their lives were no longer badly disrupted by COVID-related restrictions, with 57 percent reluctant to say their lives “are at least somewhat back to normal.” On the other hand, Republicans (77%) and independents (68%) again outstripped their Democrat counterparts in “post-pandemic” optimism.

Overall, 20 percent of Americans now say they “are ‘very’ or ‘somewhat’ worried that they will get the disease,” down from a high of almost 60 percent towards the end of summer last year. Gallup did not provide a breakdown of partisanship on this particular question.

When it comes to taking a COVID vaccine, the pollster found that about a quarter of Americans does not plan on being vaccinated, 78 percent of whom told Gallup that they would not consider changing their mind on the matter. Of that 78 percent, 51 percent said they are “not likely at all” to ever take a COVID vaccine, and just 2 percent saying they are “very likely” to reconsider the jab.

Though almost a quarter of all Americans said they would reject the vaccine, the political breakdown of this demographic leans heavily towards Republicans, who account for a 46 percent representation in the “vaccine-reluctant” group. This is compared with a mere 6 percent of Democrats in the same group, and 31 percent identifying as independent of the two major parties.

Gallup added that “Americans without a college degree are much more likely than college graduates to be vaccine-hesitant, 31% to 12%,” and that “[v]accine hesitancy is more common among middle-aged Americans (33% of those between the ages of 35 and 54) than among younger (22%) and older Americans (20%).”

EU parliament gives green light to EU Digital COVID Certificate

‘This is a key step towards its implementation by 1 July, to help restart EU free movement as safely as possible,’ the European Commission celebrated.

BRUSSELS, Belgium, June 9, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — The plenary session of the European Parliament gave its final green light to the EU Digital COVID Certificate which now awaits approval from the Council of the European Union before entering into force on July 1st for a period of twelve months.

The vote was hailed enthusiastically by the European Commission, which tweeted: “We welcome the [European Parliament] vote on adopting the EU Digital COVID Certificate! This is a key step towards its implementation by 1 July, to help restart EU free movement as safely as possible. It will also give citizens clarity to plan their travel.”

Dressed up as a passport to freedom, the new COVID certificate will have national versions in all the member states and be required to be accepted as valid in the other members of the EU. With the new digital document, all travel restrictions related to COVID-19, such as entry bans, quarantine obligations, and testing, will become illegal regarding those who use the pass.

A press statement by the European Parliament said:

During the inter-institutional negotiations, MEPs secured an agreement that EU states will not be able to impose additional travel restrictions on certificate holders – such as quarantine, self-isolation or testing – ‘unless they are necessary and proportionate to safeguard public health.’ Scientific evidence, ‘including epidemiological data published by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC)’ will have to be taken into account. The measures should be notified if possible 48 hours in advance to other member states and the Commission, and the public should be given 24 hours’ notice.

Also, member states may impose further limitations if exceptional circumstances arise, such as the local appearance of a new “variant.”

The COVID Certificate will not be compulsory; “it will not be a precondition for free movement and will not be considered a travel document,” the press statement added. On the other hand, it will be possible to subject people who want to travel without getting one, and who do not want a COVID test or one of the experimental “vaccines” approved by the EU (Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, or Johnson and Johnson), to quarantine and other constraints, effectively turning them into second class citizens.

If the objective were to protect national populations from a highly dangerous illness, restrictions could seem only reasonable. But against this it must be recalled that early treatment has been largely proscribed or discouraged in most European countries, that death rates directly related to COVID-19 have consistently been shown to be lower than those touted by the authorities, and that in any case, people who have received the experimental jabs are not guaranteed not to be infected with COVID, and they may also spread the illness if they are infected.

This means that member states who want to act on that information, considering “vaccinated” people who want to enter into their territory while having — say — flu-like symptoms as potential COVID-spreaders, will not be allowed to do so.

Some of the opponents of the Certificate — such as Marine Le Pen’s Rassemblement National party in France — are in fact against the European pass not because it restricts freedom, but because it supersedes national sovereignty of the member states, not allowing them to implement more stringent measures, and in particular border closures, if they so wish.

The COVID Certificate approved by the EU Parliament is not a vaccine passport, contrary to what had been anticipated in April 2020, when the independent news site schengenvisainfo.com suggested that “later on, vaccination might be required for Schengen visa application,” adding that an EU official had confirmed that once the COVID-19 vaccine would be available to all, proof of vaccination might be a prerequisite for traveling within the Schengen area.

The Schengen area is the large geographical zone comprising 26 European countries that have abolished all passport and other types of border control at their mutual borders. Any third country citizen can freely travel within the zone after having entered legally through one of its external borders.

Because of COVID, restrictions applied both at the internal and external borders, and the EU Commission has been urging that measures be taken that once more allow freedom of movement within the zone … in reality, only for citizens who comply with health screening.

The Digital COVID Certificate will include information about the COVID-19 status of travelers: proof of vaccination, proof of having recovered from COVID during the last six months (180 days from the initial positive test), or a recent (72 hours) negative test result, which can be a either PCR test, a rapid antigen test that relies on detection of viral proteins (less than 48 hours), or an antibody test that shows a person has been exposed to SARS-CoV-2 and developed immunity against it, according to the legislative resolution adopted by the European Parliament.

The information will be accessible to the authorities via a QR-code either on a smartphone app or in printed form. Three different certificates will exist, proving vaccination, recent SARS-CoV-2 negativity or recovery during the last six months, which appears to mean that the authorities will have immediate visual access to personal health information.

The European Union will also contribute €100 million in EU funds under the Emergency Support Instrument (ultimately contributed by taxpayers in the EU) for the purchase of tests, while the member states are encouraged to ensure that testing is affordable and widely available.

In the press release issued by the European Parliament, the EU made clear that the certificate will be issued free of charge by national authorities and that it will comply with the EU digital privacy provisions (“certificates will be verified offline and no personal data will be retained”).

However, they necessarily contain private data, prompting citizens’ organizations across Europe to voice their concerns about the possible abuse. EDRI, one of those networks, stated early on that “only offline verification with pre-downloaded signature keys” should be allowed, thus avoiding the creation of a central record of “who was where, and when.”

Of course, Smartphone connections and possible surveillance already provide a lot of information on that count. But the European rules seem to have taken some of the new concerns into account.

EDRI noted on April 29 that the COVID pass does represent a risk for “data protection and new forms of discrimination.” It stated:

Another issue that we find concerning is the uncertainty of the technology behind the certificate. It exposes individuals to the risk that extensive data records will be created on them. And this does not just concern vaccination and recovery status or past test results, as one might expect. Without the safeguards that the European Parliament has decided on, it would be technically easy to collect and store in a centralized location profiles of people’s movements, religious affiliation or even information about what they do in their free time.

Some EU member states, such as Denmark, Austria or Hungary, have already announced that they intend to also use this system to allow admission to restaurants, religious sites or sports facilities. This is where a potentially incendiary control infrastructure can be set up, allowing authorities to not only to track people's access to social events, but also giving them the potential to monitor the entire population’s every move.

How effective will the safeguards be that are set up for the European Digital Certificate? Will vaccination freedom be upheld in the long run? If this is not the case, all the instruments of control will already be in place. Already, a “common EU framework” is being set up to “make certificates interoperable and verifiable across the European Union,” as well as to prevent fraud and forgery.

To date, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Croatia, Poland, Spain, and Lithuania have connected to the European Certificate gateway and have already started issuing the passes. Other member countries may be given an extra six weeks until mid-August in order to prepare to issue certificates.

Local passes are being implemented in other European countries: as of this Wednesday, for instance, French nationals must exhibit a “sanitary pass” (giving the same kind of information as the EU Certificate) in order to join an indoor event with more than 1,000 participants.

Non-European nationals who want to travel to the EU can also obtain the EU Certificate, and it is expected that this will later be integrated into a larger international system.

The European resolution was approved by 546 votes in favor, 93 against, and 51 abstentions regarding EU citizens, and 553 votes in facor, 91 against, and 46 abstentions regarding non-European nationals.

UK prime minister set to ‘lead the way’ with vaccine passport scheme at upcoming G7 summit

The summit will be used to ‘agree a common approach to verifying and sharing COVID Health Certificates across borders.’

LONDON, June 9, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has signaled that the G7 summit, to be held in Cornwall on the southwestern coast of England from June 11 to June 13, will be a chance for the U.K. to “lead the way” in a worldwide effort to implement an internationally recognized COVID vaccine passport scheme.

The summit, supposedly focused on uniting “leading democracies to help the world fight, and then build back better from coronavirus and create a greener, more prosperous future,” will also be used to “agree a common approach to verifying and sharing COVID Health Certificates across borders,” the Mail on Sunday reported.

The alleged benefit of an internationally recognized system of vaccine verification is to aid the beleaguered airline industry, hard-hit by lockdown restrictions and travel bans in countless countries across the globe. A summit document seen by the Mail on Sunday alleged that without such a system in place, the industry will become “paralysed” by bureaucracy, adding that an international system to “'verify that people have accurate tests or genuine vaccines” will overcome this apparently severe obstacle.

Johnson issued a call ahead of the summit, asking all G7 attendees “to make concrete commitments to vaccinate the entire world against coronavirus by the end of 2022,” according to a June 6 press release.

“The world is looking to us to rise to the greatest challenge of the post-war era: defeating COVID and leading a global recovery driven by our shared values,” the prime minister asserted. “Vaccinating the world by the end of next year would be the single greatest feat in medical history. I’m calling on my fellow G7 leaders to join us to end to this terrible pandemic and pledge we will never allow the devastation wreaked by coronavirus to happen again.”

Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair previously urged Johnson to use the summit to push an international vaccine passport scheme, predicting similar difficulties arising if each individual nation was to design its own unique system for granting cross-border access to vaccinated travelers.

“One [apparent problem] is that everyone just does their own thing, which is much more chaotic and difficult to manage. Or secondly, there’s a set of rules in place that you may not be that happy with,” Blair told the Belfast Telegraph in January. “It’s better to have common rules and a common verification system, so that people know what your disease status is and know it with some validation.”

Blair’s warning was backed by the United Nations World Tourism Organization’s secretary-general Zurab Pololikashvili, who said earlier in January that “[v]accines must be part of a wider, coordinated approach that includes certificates and passes for safe cross-border travel,” favoring an internationally agreed system of vaccine certification.

India’s Health Minister Harsh Vardhan pushed back against Johnson’s passport drive, raising concerns that such a scheme would disadvantage citizens “in developing countries,” where vaccine take-up is “still low compared to developed countries.”

“[S]uch an initiative could prove to be highly discriminatory,” Vardhan emphasized, especially given that India has widely distributed its own Covaxin COVID jab, which has not yet been approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) and could be excluded from an internationally recognized list of vaccines on that account.

Johnson’s push for vaccine passports has been far from a straightforward process, given the U.K. government’s endless U-turning on the issue.

Back in November of 2020, the government began drawing up plans for a national COVID-vaccine QR code system of verification, supposedly allowing vaccinated individuals with smartphones to prove their immunity from COVID-19 by linking the code with their vaccination status.

The next month, Britain’s Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for COVID-19 Vaccine Deployment, Nadhim Zahawi, told Parliament that the government had “no plans to introduce so-called vaccine passporting.”

Describing the notion of vaccine passports as “discriminatory and completely wrong” at the time, Zahawi explained, “while I am aware that other nations may consider immunity passports alongside vaccination, it is my fervent belief that we must not penalize people who remain unconvinced” in taking an experimental jab.

After another month passed, however, in January 2021, Zahawi backtracked, announcing that the government was “looking at the technology.” Though developers of vaccine passport systems began receiving grants from the government to develop the technology, Zahawi insisted that vaccinating would not become compulsory in order to visit private businesses or otherwise engage in normal day-to-day activities. “People have to be allowed to decide for themselves whether they want to be vaccinated or otherwise,” he affirmed.

But now the U.K. could be forging a path towards mandatory vaccine passports, trialing the technology at the Euro 2020 football tournament beginning this weekend (delayed from last year) by asking spectators to prove their vaccine-positive status before entering the stadium.

Fans will be asked to verify having taken a full regimen (up to two shots) of a COVID vaccine at least two weeks beforehand by using an app developed by Britain’s National Health Service (NHS). Alternatively, for entry into the stadium, guests can show proof of a negative lateral flow test, taken within the last 48 hours.

A report in The Times noted requirements that “[all] ticket holders aged 11 and older must present evidence that they are at a low risk of transmitting COVID-19 to enter Wembley Stadium. Failure to do so will mean you’re unable to attend the match.”

The requirements apply to admittance into London’s Wembley Stadium, but will not apply to spectators at Scotland’s Hampden Park for the international games. Instead, spectators at Hampden will be asked to maintain roughly six feet of distance between themselves and other attendees.

At both stadiums, regardless of vaccine or COVID test status, fans are required to wear face masks throughout the game and are asked to arrive in staggered, 30-minute slots, to stop overcrowding at the gates. Additionally, all celebrations must be physically-distanced, meaning hugging and other contact celebrations will not be tolerated.

FSSP priests suddenly evicted from French diocese after 23 years

The diocese of Dijon released a statement saying that the entrusting of the faithful to diocesan priests would 'strengthen their communion with the diocesan Church.'

ANALYSIS

June 9, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) —Like a thunderbolt in a clear sky, the community of the Fraternity of Saint Peter (FSSP) in Dijon, in central France, received notice about a week ago that it was being “thanked” for its 23 years of service at the Basilica of Saint-Bernard – meaning it will be driven out of the diocese without warning, as of August 31.

The decision bore the signature of Bishop Roland Minnerath, Archbishop of the Metropolitan diocese of Dijon, himself a member of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, the Roman dicastery that supervises all “Ecclesia Dei” congregations, fraternities and institutes (many of which, incidentally, originated in France).

No explanation was given.

Besides, Msgr Minnerath is just five months away from his 75th birthday, the legal date for the handing in of his resignation to Pope Francis – a strange time to implement such an unexpected and radical decision as the dismissal of a priestly fraternity that offers not only Mass and the sacraments, but an active “parish” life to close on 300 regularly practicing faithful, including many families with children and young people.

Despite the FSSP’s repeated requests for a meeting with the Archbishop, no further explanation has been forthcoming and no meeting offered.

The faithful who regularly attend Mass at the “Birthplace of Saint-Bernard” – an eleventh century castle and church that were overhauled and rebuilt over the centuries and now boasts a massive basilica – were both dumbfounded and angry. They immediately set up a Facebook group, “Soutien à la Basilique St Bernard de Dijon,” respectfully disputing the Archbishop’s “unilateral decision” and hoping to have it overturned.

They published a statement on June 3 with the aim of obtaining support from the flourishing community of Catholics who choose the Traditional Latin Mass in France.

Today, we need your help, action and support.

Msgr Minnerath (…) has put an end to the life of the Catholic community of the basilica of Fontaines-lès-Dijon.

Next September, the FSSP, after 23 years of presence in Dijon and the (department of) the Côte-d’Or, will be obliged to abandon 300 faithful and leave Dijon.

Besides the loss of two priests, we the faithful are set to lose: 12 Masses per week, catechism for children and for adults, preparation for all the sacraments, both now and for the future, visits to the ill and the needy, accompaniment of student groups and Christian homes, a youth club, scout groups etc. A complete apostolate!

A community of many Catholic families is being swept away by a bishop who is on the point of leaving!

(Signed) Catholics who want to keep their priests and their community.

The superior of the apostolate of the FSSP in Dijon, Father Roch Perrel, also sent a letter to the local faithful that was widely circulated on the internet, opening his remarks with a quotation from the Gospel of Matthew: “I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be dispersed.”

Encouraging the laity to rise to the occasion, he wrote:

During all these years, priests of the Fraternity of Saint Peter have come and gone to Dijon to allow you to attend Mass daily, to receive the sacraments easily, to have catechism classes according to the pedagogy of the FSSP and given by priests; we have been able to develop activities for all ages in order to constitute a lively and peaceful community within the archdiocese of Dijon. Could all this disappear with a stroke of the pen? Without any consultation?

For our part, the District Superior of France of the FSSP, Father Benoît Paul-Joseph, has asked for an appointment with Bishop Roland Minnerath and we will explain the reasons for our incomprehension and our hurt in the face of a decision that seems to us to be deeply unjust. The fact remains that you, dear faithful, are the most injured in this affair where you will be the main victims of this change of regime: you will no longer have all the services that the FSSP rendered to you, while the diocesan solution always remains insecure since it depends on the goodwill of one or two diocesan priests who are already in charge of another parish and who are already overwhelmed. Moreover, the FSSP allows your community to maintain a unity among its members despite the diversity of pastors who have worked at the birthplace of Saint Bernard. It is therefore up to you to make your distress known in the appropriate ways to find a peaceful solution for the good of all.

What threatens us is division – among ourselves or, what would be worse, in relation to the diocese – since the pastors have been struck. Let us not let ourselves be troubled by the spirit of the evil one who sows discord in the hearts. Let us therefore have the wisdom to remain united in order to present a strong front and to be able to overcome this trial that afflicts us while remembering the admonition of St. Paul the Apostle: “Owe no man anything, but to love one another. For he that loveth his neighbor, hath fulfilled the law” Romans, 13.

In this month of June traditionally dedicated to the Sacred Heart, I invite you to pray the litanies of the Sacred Heart every day for the intentions of our community.

Interestingly, the FSSP appears not to be taking the situation lying down, although it clearly is doing everything possible to reach a peaceful outcome.

Seen from the larger perspective of Ecclesia Dei institutes and religious communities in France, the case of Dijon is a symbolic one and, if no solution is found, could appear as a precedent to other French bishops, some of whom have accepted the presence of these Traditional Latin Mass apostolates over the years, but with little enthusiasm. The very success of these communities which prove particularly attractive to young people is often a living reproach to the lack of practice in many Novus Ordo parishes.

Also, the past long months of lockdowns and severe COVID restrictions, as well as the banning of Communion on the tongue, have led a significant proportion of Catholics who would normally attend Novus Ordo liturgies to take the plunge and start attending TLM Masses – be they diocesan, Ecclesia Dei or of the Fraternity of Saint Pius X (SSPX).

In Rome, Pope Francis is said to have prepared a document and a letter modifying the generous provisions of Summorum Pontificum with regard to the “extraordinary form” of the Roman Rite, as it dubs the Tridentine Mass, restricting the right of non-Ecclesia Dei priests to celebrate it. Credible sources say that Francis’ letter will oblige diocesan priests to ask permission from their bishop to use the 1962 form of the Mass.

If Archbishop Minnerath’s move is not countered and lifted, the general context and the particular fate of the FSSP in Dijon could be seen as shaping things to come.

However, one can only speculate as to the future and even as to the reasons and context of the sudden rejection of the FSSP. Some have suggested that the owner of the Basilica, a private association dedicated to the promotion and upkeep of the historical abbey of Cîteaux, may be trying to take over the building that is presently used by the diocese. Such a move had already been attempted in recent years, with a possibility of assigning the FSSP to another, less adequate location, but eventually the FSSP was able to remain.

A statement published this Tuesday on the diocese’s website explains nothing regarding the true motivation of Minnerath, but it does make clear that the basilica will continue to be used for worship. And it does appear to reveal the present state of mind of the Catholic hierarchy – it reads:

Concerning the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter - Dijon

Much incomprehension has been expressed after the announcement of the departure of the priests of the Fraternity of Saint Peter in Dijon.

The announced transfer of one of the priests of the Fraternity led the diocese to take on the ministry of the group of faithful attached to the Missal of Saint Pius V.

There is no question of the faithful leaving their place of celebration at the birthplace of Saint Bernard.

Father Christian Baud and other diocesan priests are ready to ensure the celebration of the Mass according to the Extraordinary Form as well as the other sacraments.

For all other pastoral services, such as catechesis, patronage, scouting and other apostolic activities, families who wish to do so will find the best possible welcome at the local parishes of Saint Bernard de Fontaine and Saint Bernard de Dijon, or at any other parish of the diocese.

The diocese thanks the Fraternity for the services rendered during these past years. The fact that the faithful will now be entrusted to diocesan priests will only strengthen their communion with the diocesan Church.

Many of the messages received are unfortunately indicative of a spirit of rejection of the “Conciliar Church” as if there were another. The change proposed by the diocese has no other purpose than to strengthen ecclesial unity while respecting legitimate sensitivities.

So, the Traditional Latin Mass will continue to be offered at the Basilica of Saint-Bernard, but by overworked diocesan priests. And the Archbishop sees this as a means of strengthening the communion of the faithful with the diocese, thereby implying that Catholics who practice their faith in Ecclesia Dei communities are in some way wanting, or inferior, or even in some kind of opposition with the hierarchy of the Church.

The local faithful have already stressed that they will be losing active and dedicated priests who not only offer them a daily Traditional Latin Mass – something that is excessively rare in French parishes that offer “Motu proprio” Masses, but usually only on Sundays – but also catechesis and activities. They know only too well that diocesan catechism classes are often way beyond par as regards the full, articulate and well-structured teaching of the Faith, while traditional scouting and other lay activities are themselves profoundly informed by the Latin liturgy that supports them.

The idea of “respecting legitimate sensitivities” as regards the liturgy of the sacraments also downplays the true concerns of many “Ecclesia Dei” faithful. They most often choose the traditional form of the Roman Rite not because of their feelings or nostalgia, but because of its objective, Christo-centric qualities and its sure, clear, God-willed affirmation of adoration and of the Faith.

Biden’s proposed budget for 2022 uses term ‘birthing people’ instead of ‘mothers’

‘All they’ve done is create new reductionistic terms for women,’ said Ryan T. Anderson, president of the conservative think tank Ethics & Public Policy Center.

WASHINGTON, June 9, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — President Joe Biden’s 2022 budget proposal is using the word “birthing people” instead of “mothers,” attempting to formalize the “inclusive” phrase born of radical transgender ideology.

Released on May 28, the 72-page proposal for the 2022 fiscal year includes a section detailing the budget’s provisions intended to reduce maternal mortality and end “Race-Based Disparities in Maternal Mortality.”

In a subsection under the heading entitled “Build Back Better,” a phrase tightly associated with the World Economic Forum’s Great Reset agenda, a radical global socialist plan which seeks to “press the reset button on capitalism, transforming everything about our society,” Biden’s budget earmarks over $200 million in spending to help end the “high rate of maternal mortality and race-based disparities in outcomes among birthing people.”

“All they’ve done is create new reductionistic terms for women,” said Ryan T. Anderson in a tweet Monday. Anderson, a former senior fellow at the Heritage Foundation and currently the president of the Ethics & Public Policy Center, a conservative think tank in Washington, D.C., added: “The old words work just fine. Keep using them.”

The use of the phrase “birthing people” in the budget comes after Missouri Congresswoman Cori Bush told Congress in May she was “committed to doing the absolute most to … protect black birthing people.”

Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, founder of the Ruth Institute, a global non-profit dedicated to defending the family, told LifeSiteNews the phrase “birthing people” was “propaganda,” and suggested that the appearance of the term in official documents like the 2022 budget proposal is a way of “getting people worn down so that the word ‘mother’ is removed from their thought process.”

“Persons are being reduced to a collection of functions,” Morse added.

The author and co-author of five books has spoken around the world on topics relating to marriage, family and human sexuality. Morse was also a campaign spokeswoman for California’s Proposition 8 in 2008, which defined marriage as the union between a man and a woman, but was later overturned in the court system.

Morse said those who promote transgender ideology are “very sophisticated” at manipulating words to construct a new vision of reality. “You can’t use their language,” she said. “That’s not negotiable. You cannot use their language.”

Meanwhile, pro-abortion lobby group NARAL Pro-Choice America defended the use of the term “birthing people” in the proposed 2022 budget, tweeting on May 6, “We use gender neutral language when talking about pregnancy, because it's not just cis-gender women that can get pregnant and give birth. Reproductive freedom is for *every* body.”

Katy Faust, founder and director of Them Before Us, a non-profit committed to advancing social policies to defend the rights of children, told LifeSiteNews that using phrases like “birthing person,” which carries the implication that men are capable of bearing children, is “insisting on the imaginary” while “rejecting the biological reality” that only women can be mothers.

Faust, a regular contributor at The Federalist, said her organization “Them Before Us” profiles children who have experienced the loss of their mother or father, and said “the heart of a human child” wants “both their mom and dad.”

Children whose parents have “transitioned” to take on another gender identity, she said, experience the change as “a sort of death,” as the “gender-specific manifestation really mattered to them.”

“It’s too bad,” Faust said, “that this administration is negating not just biological reality, but … the cry of every child’s heart.”

Faust, who has advocated on behalf of children with lawmakers in the U.S. and overseas, including at the United Nations, said the 2022 budget’s formal adoption of the term “birthing people” amounts to “a massive power grab for the state.”

“When biology does not determine who is a mother and who is a father,” Faust explained, “then the state gets to determine who is a mother and who is a father.”

“It is a massive attempt to control language, and if you can control language you can control lives,” she said.

Faust said conservatives must “fortify themselves” and use their platforms to combat the rapidly changing definitions of words and the replacement of traditional concepts with new phrases that align with radical ideology and deny fundamental realities.

“You’re going to either align with reality, or you will have to constantly appease this ideological dystopia that the left is increasingly pushing.”

“So much of what they’re doing right now runs up against not just natural law in a philosophical sense but natural reality,” Faust said. “It’s unsustainable. The question is how many people’s lives, especially children’s lives, are they going to ruin in the meantime?”

Texas governor bans segregation based on vaccination status

‘Texans should have the freedom to go where they want without any limits, restrictions, or requirements.’

AUSTIN, Texas, June 9, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — Texans who opt not to take a COVID-19 vaccine can’t be punished for their refusal. On June 7, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed a new law that stops private businesses and government offices from asking clients for proof of vaccination. He announced the new law in a tweet that stated, “Texas is open 100%. Texans should have the freedom to go where they want without any limits, restrictions, or requirements.”

Although he emphasized “the freedom” to go places “without any limits, restrictions, or requirements,” Abbott had mandated masks for more than eight months.

The new law, formerly known as SB968, also contains a section prohibiting vaccine passports.

Section 161.0085 of the legislation contains the directive that businesses in Texas may not require customers to show papers containing proof of having either taken the vaccine or having recovered from COVID-19. It reads:

A business in this state may not require a customer to provide any documentation certifying the customer’s COVID-19 vaccination or post-transmission recovery on entry to, to gain access to, or to receive service from the business. A business that fails to comply with this subsection is not eligible to receive a grant or enter into a contract payable with state funds.

This section also takes aim at vaccination passports, stating: “A governmental entity in this state may not issue a vaccine passport, vaccine pass, or other standardized documentation to certify an individual’s COVID-19 vaccination status to a third party for a purpose other than health care or otherwise publish or share any individual’s COVID-19 immunization record or similar health information for a purpose other than health care.”

The bill was sponsored by Republican State Sens. Lois Kolkhorst, Angela Paxton, Charles Perry, and Democrat César Blanco, as well as Republican State Reps. Stephanie Klick and Angie Chen Button.

Other states have taken aim at segregation based on vaccine status. Some preceded Abbot in banning the practice outright. On April 2, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) of Florida signed an executive order banning COVID-19 vaccination passports and preventing businesses from discriminating against customers based on their COVID-19 vaccination status. On May 20, Gov. Kim Reynolds of Iowa signed legislation preventing both government offices and businesses that take government contracts from demanding proof of COVID-19 vaccination. On May 24, Gov. Kay Ivey (R) of Alabama signed legislation preventing government-issued COVID-19 vaccination passports and businesses from demanding them from customers.

Other governors have so far concentrated on making sure government offices do not discriminate on the grounds of vaccination status. On April 7, Gov. Brad Little (R) of Idaho signed legislation banning government offices from demanding proof of COVID-19 vaccination. On April 19, Gov. Doug Ducey (R) of Arizona signed an executive order to the same effect. On April 29, Gov. Eric Holcomb (R) also signed legislation banning government offices within the state of Indiana from “issuing or requiring” a COVID-19 passport. On May 7, Wyoming’s Gov. Mark Gordon also forbade government offices from discriminating against people for not receiving the vaccine.

Some governors have so far just banned COVID-19 passports themselves. On April 13, Gov. Greg Gianforte (R) of Montana signed an executive order banning coronavirus vaccine passports. On April 21, Gov. Kristi Noem (R) of South Dakota did the same. On May 11, Gov. Henry McMaster of South Carolina also signed an executive order banning such documents.

Discovery of child graves in Canadian residential school demands further questions as many hastily attack the Church

Catholic author Michael O’Brien, who was in a residential school for three years, told LifeSiteNews the chief underlying issue of the institutional abuse of children was the government’s unjust removal of First Nation children from their families by the state authorities. There were ‘long-term psychological and social effects of this.’

ANALYSIS

KAMLOOPS, British Colombia, June 9, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – The sad discovery of 215 unmarked child graves found at the Kamloops Indian Residential School has led to much sorrow and outrage, as well as stinging attacks against the Catholic Church.

Despite this swift reaction, numerous questions still remain regarding the case. Canadian author Michael O’Brien, himself a former pupil at one of the residential schools, has warned of the danger of accusing the Church of murder before any real information is known about the recently discovered graves, including the context of the residential school period.

Chief Rosanne Casimir from the Tk’emlups te Secwépemc First Nation, revealed May 28 that the bodies of 215 schoolchildren, some aged only three years old, had been discovered underground through the use of ground penetrating radar. Casimir mentioned that there had been a “knowing in our community” which led to the search and discovery of the bodies.

Casimir also noted that “these missing children are undocumented deaths,” adding that many questions remained to be answered, and also hinting at the possibility of finding more bodies pending further investigation. She described it as an “unthinkable loss that was spoken about but never documented at the Kamloops Indian Residential School.”

Casimir noted that the investigation had been ongoing since the early 2000s, stating that stories from former pupils had fuelled the desire to search for graves.

Following the discovery, vocal attacks have been made against the Catholic Church, who ran the school while the state financed it, with anti-Catholic sentiment in the mainstream media running at a high.

Residential school system

Kamloops residential school, located in southern British Columbia, was run by the Catholic Church from 1890 to 1969, at which point the federal government took over the running of the facility and turned it into a day school until its closure in 1978. At its height, Kamloops had over 500 children enrolled during the 1950s and was once the largest school of the residential system.

The school was given to the guidance of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate in 1893, by order of the government. However, by 1910, the principal reported that the government was not providing sufficient funding to properly feed the children. A similar report was made in the 1920s.

In 1924, the building was partly destroyed by fire.

It was part of the nation-wide residential school system in Canada, which saw indigenous children unjustly removed from their families, and taken to the schools for the supposed purpose of education and assimilation into the non-indigenous culture. The schools were largely run by the Catholic Church, although by no means were they exclusively under Catholic care only, as other Christian denominations also ran some of the schools.

The seized children were prevented from speaking their native tongue or from engaging in their cultural practices from home. Once attendance at the schools became mandatory in the 1920s, children were forcibly removed from their families and parents threatened with prison if they did not comply. Upon arrival at the school, children rarely saw their families, with many disappearing or never seeing their families again.

The residential school system finished with the closure of the last school in 1996. Reports suggest that over 150,000 children attended the schools during their operation.

Accounts of physical, emotional, or sexual abuse were widespread within the schools. As regards Kamloops, a former employee of Kamloops, Gerald Moran, was convicted in 2004 of 12 counts of sexual abuse and given three years in jail.

The National Truth and Reconciliation Commission was subsequently established due to a legal settlement between the Residential Schools Survivors, the Assembly of First Nations, Inuit representatives, and the federal government and church bodies. A lengthy report by the Commission released in 2015 interviewed many thousands of witnesses, including numerous former students at the schools, and revealed that the Indigenous children who attended the schools died at a higher rate than school aged children in the general population.

The report noted 3,200 students who died while attending the schools, although the New York Times recently reported the number to be at least 4,100. Causes for these deaths ranged from neglect, disease, accident, or mistreatment.

The National Center for Truth and Reconciliation has documented records for 51 children who died at Kamloops, between 1900 and 1971, although this number is far short of the 215 recently discovered bodies.

Kamloops and the Catholic Church

In the wake of the recent discovery of the unmarked graves, numerous high-profile figures have attacked the Catholic Church, with calls for accountability and desires for amends to be made coming from all levels of society. Accusations of murder and genocide have been levied against the Church since the discovery.

In a recent televised address, pro-abortion Prime Minister Justin Trudeau slammed the Catholic Church for its role in Kamloops and the wider school system: “Make it clear that we expect the Church to step up and take responsibility for its role in this and be there to help in the grieving and the healing, including with records that is necessary. It’s something we are all still waiting for the Catholic Church to do.”

Trudeau formerly attacked Pope Francis some years ago, when the Pope did not personally apologize for the role the Church had played in the residential school system.

The Catholic hierarchy have came out in the last few days with statements of sorrow and sympathy. Pope Francis spoke at the Sunday Angelus, saying he “joins the Canadian Bishops and the whole Catholic Church in Canada in expressing his closeness to the Canadian people, who have been traumatised by the shocking news.”

The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops issued its own statement, writing to “pledge to continue walking side by side with Indigenous Peoples in the present, seeking greater healing and reconciliation for the future.”

Edmonton’s Archbishop Smith also expressed his “deep regret and profound condolences,” to the families of the children, recalling his own apologies made to the Truth and Reconciliation commission.

He was supported by Vancouver’s Archbishop Michael Miller, who talked of the “ongoing need to bring to light every tragic situation that occurred in residential schools run by the Church. The passage of time does not erase the suffering that touches the Indigenous communities affected, and we pledge to do whatever we can to heal that suffering.”

Michael O’Brien warns against hasty judgements

In the wake of this sudden surge of anti-Catholic rhetoric, based on the tragic, but as yet unexplained, discovery of the unmarked graves, LifeSite spoke at length with well-known Canadian Catholic author Michael O’Brien, who spent three years in one of the residential schools himself. O’Brien later gave testimony to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission during the many hearings conducted in order to draw up the final report.

O’Brien cautioned against using the recent news as a launchpad from which to attack the Catholic Church.

O’Brien revealed that he had indeed witnessed abuse while at the school, although from lay employees in the schools, and not from the clergy or religious sisters.

He pointed also to the chief underlying issue of the institutional abuse of children being removed from their families by the state authorities, and then taken to the schools, noting the “long-term psychological and social effects of this.”

But in the specific case of the Kamloops school, he re-issued the call for caution. “Where are the known facts to date?” he asked. “At this point there is only innuendo and insinuation.”

Kamloops graves in context: Infant mortality rates

Indeed, his warning is well-founded. While Chief Casimir mentioned existing rumors of unmarked graves, there was no explanation for why they might be there. Any number of causes for the children’s deaths could be offered, and accusations and explanations of the bodies can only be factually supported following forensic examinations.

Another point O’Brien raised was the seeming lack of investigation into mortality records during Kamloops’ operational years, to determine the expected level of child deaths which would be normal for the period. Some statistics show that for infant mortality (i.e. deaths under the age of one year), the rate was 187 deaths per 1,000 births in 1900. High death rates were seen also between 1910 through 1920, coinciding with the Spanish Influenza epidemic.

In an age marked by such high child mortality, and in a school which was the largest of its kind, such a number might not be unexpected in its 80-year lifespan; however, questions remain about why these 215 deaths don’t appear in official records.

Meanwhile mortality rates for children under the age of five record 296.75 deaths per 1,000 births in 1900. That figure only dropped beneath 100 deaths per 1,000 births in 1935, with high rates of child mortality consistently seen from 1910 through 1920.

“Any discussion of death in childhood and the experience of children and families living with life-threatening medical problems has to be put in the context of child health as it has improved during the last century,” wrote the National Center for Biotechnology Information. As an example of this change in demographic mortality, in 1900, 30% of all deaths in the U.S were of children aged less than five years old, compared to just 1.9% in 1999.

In fact, such was the concern about Canada’s national infant mortality that Ontario politician Newton Rowell raised the matter before the House of Commons in 1919. Indeed, the First Nations people themselves have historically been noted to be less resilient against infectious diseases, such as influenza epidemics, measles, and smallpox.

O’Brien also called for an examination to be made about the graves and the number of bodies found. Official records account for 51 children, and with the latest discovery some 266 children are known to have died or be buried at the school. In an age marked by such high child mortality, and in a school which was the largest of its kind, such a number might not be unexpected in its 80-year lifespan; however, questions remain about why these 215 deaths don’t appear in official records.

‘Department of Indian Affairs refused to ship home the bodies of children for cost reasons’

O’Brien noted that transportation difficulties abounded during Kamloops operational years. This meant that the bodies of children who died, for whatever cause, very often could not be returned to their families and were thus buried on the school premises. He was supported in this by the National Post, who noted how the government’s “Department of Indian Affairs refused to ship home the bodies of children for cost reasons.”

Upon arrival at the school, the seized children rarely saw their families, with many disappearing or never seeing their families again. If they died, the government’s Department of Indian Affairs often ‘refused to ship home the bodies of children for cost reasons.’

In fact, the National Post wrote that unmarked graves were not uncommon in the residential schools, saying that it was “never a secret that the sites of Indian Residential Schools abounded with the graves of dead children.”

The graveyards of the schools were sometimes used by locals even after the school had closed, although the more regular occurrence was for the cemeteries to become overgrown, damaged by prairie fires, and the wooden grave markers destroyed over time.

‘Until more facts are known, we are left only with insinuations’

Upon further investigation into the context of the residential schools, the recent discovery of the 215 unmarked graves presents society without any conclusions, other than the mere physical presence of the graves.

Without forensic evidence, nor any bodies even having been exhumed, nothing can be postulated about how the children died, or when. Given the high mortality rate generally, alongside the even higher mortality rate of the First Nations people, higher rates of child mortality – and the accompanying graves – are to be more expected in the time of residential schools compared to today.

O’Brien’s warnings have been supported by the National Post, which noted the manner in which graves easily fell into ruin over time, and through external forces such as the ravages of nature, or land development.

While the residential schools undeniably caused great harm in multitudinous ways, as often harrowingly described in a limited manner by the Truth and Reconciliation Report and as evidenced by the government’s undermining of parental rights of First Nation parents, care must be taken not to use the discovery of the 215 graves as a means to blindly attack the Church without any supporting evidence.

The schools, financed by the state and run by a variety of churches, not merely the Catholic Church, remain a dark period in Canada’s history. However, O’Brien warned against “projecting onto the past our consciousness of the present.”

“Until more facts are known, we are left only with insinuations,” he explained.

Gratitude where gratitude is due: My family’s story with the Society of St. Pius X

So many souls today are not being tended well by their shepherds. So many sheep out there are lost in the wilderness and no one is present to look for them.

June 9, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – Sometimes things happen in life that we receive with much gratitude, but we may never make it a point of stressing them. And then comes an occasion which prompts us to do some act of gratitude that was long overdue.

This is how it is with my family's own experiences with the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX) over the course of at least the last decade.

The reason why I decided to make now this act of public gratitude is that some of the faithful in Front Royal, Virginia, who have become attracted to the SSPX during last year's lockdown and requested the SSPX open a mission in town are now raising funds so that a permanent SSPX chapel can be built there.

This is my way of trying to help along a little this desirable project.

Why would I do such an act of public support for the SSPX?

Let me tell you a story.

It began more than a decade ago. After meeting my future husband, I became a Catholic in 2004 with the help of a priest of the Fraternity of St. Peter, Father Bernward Deneke, who later also witnessed the sacramental marriage of my husband, Robert, and me. We owe him a lot. And as it is with many converts, they are very eager to bring in more souls into the Catholic Church or to make sure that their loved ones die in the state of grace as Catholics. So it was with my grandfather. He lay dying. He had been a faithful Protestant for decades after having been raised as an Orthodox Christian and showed no interest in becoming a Catholic. Yet, we had to try.

So first we asked some of the traditional priests that we knew in Germany. The problem was that my grandfather lived in a town that was quite Protestant, and the Catholic parish there was so secularized that my mother and I had been quite shocked to see a woman dressed up in a sort of a coarse vestment going to the Tabernacle and doing something. We were glad not to know more of the details.

But in any event, none of the traditional priests we knew better could help. They were all quite far away from my grandfather and they did not see themselves able to make a longer trip.

That is when we decided to call up the closest SSPX chapel in Germany, which was still five hours away from my grandfather. Father Koenraad Huysegems picked up the phone. We did not know each other at all, and I even called from the United States. After I had described to him the situation, his response was: “Shall I go right now?” He would have immediately gone to his car and driven five hours to the north to see whether he could be of any help to a man he had never met.

After arrangements with the family, Father Huysegems arrived a few days later. It was Candlemas. I myself was not able to come, but I received a full report from my mother, who was present, of what had happened. As providence had it, this priest who was originally from Holland spoke my grandfather's native tongue, Serbo-Croatian. My grandfather came from Yugoslavia; he had been a prisoner of war from World War II, had then met my grandmother in the northern German countryside, and stayed.

But so Father Huysegems entered my grandfather's bedroom and unexpectedly greeted him in his mother tongue! He said to him: “I am a Catholic priest. I could either give you the blessing of the Church, or I can receive you in to the Catholic Church.” And, to all of our surprise, my grandfather said he wanted to become a Catholic! For this, one needs to know that he had followed the developments in the Catholic Church over the years. A while back, he had mentioned that he believed that the SSPX were the ones who had kept the Faith entire. I do not know whence he had developed this assessment.

In any event, on that Candlemas, my grandfather became a Catholic, had a full-hearted confession, received Our Lord, and died some three weeks later.

And we owe it to a priest of the Society of St. Pius X whose first prompt response was: “Shall I go right now?”

This story is so touching in light of the many disheartening stories I witnessed in Germany as a convert. I knew another fresh convert who was to die not long after his conversion. As I learned later, the priest who took him into the Church never even heard his sacramental confession! Needless to say, he also did not make it into the hospital to his parishioner before he was to die. What is so piercing about this man's story is that he had once told me that one of the reasons why he wanted to become a Catholic was to go to confession. He said: “I feel I have a very heavy bag that I am carrying around on my back. I so much would like to be freed of it.”

So many souls today are not being tended well by their shepherds. So many sheep out there are lost in the wilderness and no one is present to look for them.

My husband and I have not yet had had the chance to meet Fr. Huysegems; we were in the U.S. at the time. But we were able to thank him over the phone. And now once more we thank him this way.

We met other priests of the SSPX while in Europe, some in Switzerland. We always had the most joyful encounters, with much kindness and lively discussions. Father Stefan Frey, now District Superior of the SSPX in Austria, once even came to visit us with my family when we were back from the United States with our first child, just one year old. Father Frey entered the house, looked at our daughter, stretched his arms out in joy and just stood there and warmly smiled. We will not forget his kindness, either. It was also Father Frey who gave me some personal advice about my life upon which I still sometimes reflect.

In our life here in the U.S., we had a few encounters with SSPX priests, and even two or three with Bishop Bernard Fellay, then-General Superior of the SSPX. Knowing that I was an eager journalist always interested in learning more and understanding more, he took much time to speak with us, even while his assistants politely tried to move him onto his next task! Once I was also able even to conduct a published interview with him.

We also had the chance to meet His Excellency at the newly built seminary in Dillwyn, Virginia, for some of the opening ceremonies. And we had the blessing of his giving the Sacrament of Confirmation to both of our young children.

This story, which is extraordinary in itself since he administered that Sacrament to three children, even though he had just tripped and broken his foot an hour earlier, will always be a very memorable one for my family. (I have written about it here.) Bishop Fellay did not show any pain or disdain, nor did he shorten my lengthy private conversation with him afterwards! And he had not yet even been at the doctor's office!

On the contrary; when he entered the room of his private quarters (he could not easily move down into the chapel), he said, with a big smile: “This is a very good sign, because the devil must be very angry that these children receive the Sacrament of Confirmation today!”

It had been the day of the opening of the seminary, at the end of a long day. A long day also for our son who, during the ceremony of Confirmation, kept moving slightly from one leg to another. I think he was just getting restless!

In spite of the accident and the exhaustion at the end of a long day, Bishop Fellay took the time to explain to the children the Sacrament of Confirmation and what it does to their souls. It was quite beautiful.

As a sort of background information: in all this time, we rarely went to chapels of the SSPX. For years, we went to our local parish's traditional Latin Mass, and later we drove some 45 minutes away from home to a little traditional Catholic community with three fine priests, the Canons Regular of the New Jerusalem. (It was there that our son was blessed to receive his First Holy Communion and his first Sacrament of Penance from Bishop Athanasius Schneider!) The main reason for this move was that the mixed community of Novus Ordo and traditional Catholics at home meant that there was not a unified culture and reverence at Mass, with many unruly children whose parents did not seem to think it was important that others at Mass could adore God in quiet reverence.

My husband, who had so greatly helped me become a Catholic, always had a great respect for the SSPX back in the time of the 1988 consecrations of their four bishops. He always held that the way Rome dealt with this case was unjust. In 1987, he went to St. Mary's, Kansas, in order to give a talk to the SSPX community about spiritual childhood and the Christian soldier. (His essay based on that talk can be found in the collection of his essays here.) But in all these years, he very rarely went to SSPX chapels.

One could say that we were grateful friends of the SSPX.

Then came the lockdown last year. Since my husband is advanced in age, we did stay home for nearly two months, until Easter. We wanted to protect our much beloved husband and father.

In the meantime, and unbeknownst to us, a fellow Catholic, fervently desiring not to be cut off from Mass and the Eucharist, had taken an initiative and called Father Steven Reuter in to help. He was then a professor at the above-mentioned SSPX seminary in Dillwyn, Virginia, which is some three hours away from us in Front Royal. He assured us that Catholics in our region could attend Mass every single Sunday during the entire lockdown period. He, together with his generous fellow priests from the seminary, along with some seminarians, came every Sunday to offer two Holy Masses, the Sacrament of Confession, and even to visit the sick.

Many a Catholic in our region who had been critical of the SSPX was touched to witness this generosity and selflessness. One story that made the rounds very quickly in our larger Catholic community was that on Holy Thursday, a cold and windy day, Father Reuter was freezing in the cold while celebrating his outdoor Mass and he was shivering while cleansing his hands after each family's reception of Holy Communion, a form of administering Holy Communion that took altogether more than an hour. Catholics were touched to see this sacrifice of a priest for them, so that they could receive Our Lord.

As it happened by God's Providence, these first “car Masses” took place on the same road our little family was living! At some point, we started to attend these outdoor Masses which were completely in line with official coronavirus rules. Father Reuter and his team touched our hearts immediately, so much so that our children insist that Father Reuter is the best confessor they ever had! His reverence at Mass and his excellent homilies were an inspiration to us. He came to visit our home several times, and each time it was a spiritual and intellectual feast. When Father was not long thereafter called away to another mission, we all were quite sad and distressed. It was as if God had called away from us one of the visiting Apostles. We could better imagine how those communities in early Christianity must have felt when one of the Apostles had to move on to their next mission.

In light of the crisis in the Church, with all the distress and ugliness, we found here a little oasis of faith, with the beautiful liturgy, but also the accompanying practice in the faith, as given to us by these priests. Since then, Father John Carlisle has now taken over this little mission of the SSPX in the Shenandoah Valley, another very fine priest and a former student of Father Reuter's. We are still being taken care of so generously by the priests and seminarians of the St. Thomas Aquinas Seminary in Dillwyn, with even Father Yves le Roux, its rector, gracing us with his visits and Holy Masses. This work entails for them very busy weekends with many an hour of driving.

Not long ago, when visiting the Seminary, Don Davide Pagliarani, the General Superior of the SSPX, was so kind to visit our community in Front Royal and he immediately touched our hearts with his Italian spontaneity and warmth, as well as his deep Faith and insight. He spent much time with us and even celebrated an early morning Mass in our little chapel.

In my years as a journalist trying to fight the evils of this Bergoglian pontificate and the effects of the Second Vatican Council, my husband had thought it best that we do it for the Church as volunteers. With my husband in the background, counseling and editing my reports, we did not ask for reimbursements. We wanted to help our Church in distress, in gratitude for all that we have received from Our Lord and Our Lady.

Now I would ask you, should you have ever found some worth in my journalistic work, whether you could help give a donation to the fundraising campaign for the Immaculate Heart of Mary chapel in Front Royal. I would be so grateful to know that our family could have a safe haven of the faith, in order to raise our children and to grow ourselves in the faith.

But not only this: may many more souls profit from the witness and the many crosses that the SSPX bore for the whole Catholic Church, unto eternal life and salvation.

For those who have not yet studied the history of the SSPX and their work, I would direct them to Bishop Athanasius Schneider's writings. In this book review here, I quote at length how he describes his own development with regard to his views on this Catholic apostolate. In light of this Bergoglian pontificate, Bishop Schneider admitted that we need to take the SSPX and its arguments more seriously. He wrote in his book Christus Vincit:

With the growing crisis in the Church, and especially given the situation created after the two Synods on the Family, the publication of Amoris Laetitia, Pope Francis’s approval of the pastoral guidelines of the bishops of the Buenos Aires region (which foresee, among other things, the admittance to Holy Communion of unrepentant adulterers), and the declaration on diversity of religions he signed in Abu Dhabi, I realized that we need to take the arguments of the SSPX more seriously.”

This Kazakh bishop has come to see the Second Vatican Council and its aftermath in a more critical light, as well. In a 2018 interview with the National Catholic Register's Edward Pentin, Bishop Schneider revealed what Pope Benedict XVI had once said about the founder of the SSPX, Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre and what he himself thinks of the Society:

Pope Benedict XVI once said about Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre: “He was a great bishop of the Catholic Church.” Pope Francis considers the SSPX as Catholic, and has expressed this publicly several times. Therefore, he seeks a pastoral solution, and he made the generous pastoral provisions of granting to the priests of the SSPX the ordinary faculty to hear confessions and conditional faculties to celebrate canonically marriage. The more the doctrinal, moral and liturgical confusion grows in the life of the Church, the more one will understand the prophetic mission of Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre in an extraordinary dark time of a generalized crisis of the Church.

(It seems that since its original publication, this interview has been partially edited. This quote still can be found, however, on Father Z's website.)

But not only this: there is a living cardinal who at this point wishes to remain anonymous who has recently predicted that Archbishop Lefebvre will one day be declared a Doctor of the Church and that he was “prophetic.”

Last, but not least, Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò has come out in strong support of the work of Archbishop Lefebvre. In September of last year, he wrote to LifeSite’s Stephen Kokx:

I consider Archbishop Lefebvre an exemplary confessor of the Faith, and I think that by now it is obvious that his denunciation of the Council and the modernist apostasy is more relevant than ever. It should not be forgotten that the persecution to which Archbishop Lefebvre was subjected by the Holy See and the world episcopate served above all as a deterrent for Catholics who were refractory toward the conciliar revolution.

Furthermore, this Italian prelate also supports the consecrations of the four SSPX bishops in 1988 which gave them a protective shield from the onslaught of the Modernists:

“And if their [the SSPX'] fidelity made disobedience to the pope inevitable with the episcopal consecrations, thanks to them the Society was able to protect herself from the furious attack of the Innovators and by its very existence it allowed the possibility of the liberalization of the Ancient Rite, which until then was prohibited.”

He lived as a woman, then found happiness and truth in Jesus Christ

Billy Burleigh, a biological male, underwent 'horrific' gender transition surgery twice.

June 9, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) ‒ Several weeks ago, Billy Burleigh, a de-transitioned male, appeared on Tucker Carlson Tonight and exposed the reality of so-called sex change therapy, after he himself underwent the experience. I had a chance to speak with him recently to explain his powerful and important story and how he found fulfillment, joy, and happiness in life.

Burleigh tells me that he began to have doubts about his sexuality when he was in the first grade. As he grew older, after experiencing sexual abuse, he began to have mental and learning difficulties that made him not “fit in with the boys.” He says that as soon as he became an adult he began to seek therapy and dig deeper into transgenderism as he came to believe God had made a mistake in creating him a male.

After reading various books, Burleigh states that he discovered that “the way that I had to deal with my problems was to change my body to match my mind.” He describes the experiences of multiple surgeries, which he thought would bring him on the “road to happiness,” as being “awful.”

Burleigh eventually turned to God to find joy in the midst of despair. He says that he joined study groups on spiritual warfare and faith, and truly began to understand that Jesus is the way to real happiness. He then decided to transition back to male. Today, he is married with two daughters, and is in a “wonderful, loving relationship.”

Burleigh says that the battle against the LGBT agenda is “intense.” He tells parents who have a child suffering with gender dysphoria to “love your child … (and) look for marked differences within your child's behavior” that could cause the confusion.

Above all, Burleigh points out that “the power of prayer is so significant.” He encourages people, especially gender-confused individuals, to pray, ask for guidance, and to always progress toward the truth.

Pride Month shows: Christians must opt out of mainstream culture in America

Our society conforms itself to revelation, or to revolution. It cannot do both.

June 9, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — Nothing highlights the extent to which the Overton Window has shifted away from Judeo-Christian values to those of the sexual revolution like children’s entertainment during “Pride Month.” Those of you who follow the culture updates posted in this space will be aware that the queering of children’s entertainment has been moving at a rapid clip for some time; but in June, things tend to speed up. There was the Blue’s Clues jingle for kids sung by the drag queen, and new kid’s content for Pride is being pumped out almost daily.

There’s plenty of swag being advertised, too. Nickelodeon is pushing shoes for kids that sport Sponge Bob Squarepants with the Pride rainbow and the slogan “With Imagination, I Can Be Anything I Want.” In this context, of course, they mean bisexual, transgender, or any of the other options available in our ever-expanding alphabet of sexual minorities. Sponge Bob Squarepants, incidentally, was outed as gay a while back. Children’s cartoon characters remained closeted until it became corporately convenient to out them.

On June 5, Nickelodeon also released a song targeted at kids called “The Meaning of Pride,” featuring “Drag Queen Nina West,” and designed to teach kids the precepts of Pride — an original for children to “celebrate by lifting up voices in the LGBTQIA+ community!” If children (or adults, for that matter) are unaware of what that lengthening acronym refers to, you can be assured that there is more children’s programming coming your way to explain it all. Parents who like to use cartoons to babysit their kids for an hour or two can be assured that their children will be well taken care of by a very educational drag queen. (It does bear mentioning, however, that the video has 1,000 likes and 9,700 dislikes.)

One June 8, it was announced that Nickelodeon was going even further to mainstream transgenderism. According to The Christian Post: “In an exclusive interview with Variety, trans-identified actor Michael D. Cohen announced that 13-year-old Sasha Cohen (no relation) has been cast on an upcoming episode of the TV series ‘Danger Force,’ which will air on June 19. Sasha Cohen’s appearance on ‘Danger Force’ comes six months after Michael D. Cohen first launched the Trans Youth Acting Challenge.” Capitalism follows culture, and trans kids are very trendy at the moment.

Not to be outdone, the Cartoon Network has also released a children’s Pride video to “celebrate LGBTQIA+ kids and families. The video features Jax, who uses “they/them” as pronouns and is the Youth Ambassador for San Diego Pride; families with two dads; and a series of slogans encouraging kids to engage in self-expression. In this context, of course, the sorts of things kids are encouraged to express goes without saying. “Happy Pride Month!” the video says.

I’ve written several updates on this sort of thing, so readers may have the tendency to roll their eyes and say: “We get it, the culture is awful.” But I think there’s an important point here for parents to recognize that many have not: Christians must opt out of mainstream culture in America. This has been true for some time, but now there is no way parents can pretend that there is any such thing as innocent children’s entertainment. That entertainment is produced by companies who have an agenda for your kids. They’re not being secretive about it, either. All of the available polling data indicates a sea change in the views of young people on LGBT issues, and the reason for this is obvious: All of the cultural currents are flowing in one direction. To swim against the tide is to take a stand.

Our society conforms itself to revelation, or to revolution. It cannot do both.

Removing the Hyde Amendment in Biden’s proposed budget will set a precedent

To give context for this move — which might seem like a wonky and obscure policy debate to some — I talked to Dr. Michael New, the pro-life movement’s premier statistician.

June 9, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — President Joe Biden has unveiled his proposed budget and, unsurprisingly, it contains plenty of bad news for pro-lifers and pre-born children. Biden is the most pro-abortion president in American history, and appears determined to normalize abortion as a social good as much as possible during his term. Previous presidents, including Barack Obama, were content to push abortion while respecting the consensus that taxpayers should not fund them in the form of the Hyde Amendment. Biden’s budget excludes the Hyde Amendment, paving the way for a massive increase in taxpayer-funded abortions.

To give context for this move — which might seem like a wonky and obscure policy debate to some — I talked to Dr. Michael New, the pro-life movement’s premier statistician. New is a Research Associate of Political Science and Social Research at The Catholic University of America with a Ph.D. in Political Science from Stanford, and also serves as an Associate Scholar at the pro-life Charlotte Lozier Institute. Four of his articles on the impact of state-level abortion legislation have been published in peer-reviewed journals.

What is historically significant about President Biden’s exclusion of the Hyde Amendment in the 2021 budget?

President Biden’s proposed budget is the [first] presidential budget proposal in 28 years that fails to include the Hyde Amendment. President Clinton’s first budget proposal — released in the spring of 1993 — was the most recent presidential budget that did not include Hyde protections. However, Hyde language was included in appropriations legislation that President Clinton signed that summer. Since that time, every presidential budget proposal, including the seven remaining budgets proposed by President Clinton and all eight budgets proposed by Barack Obama, has included the Hyde Amendment.

How effective has the Hyde Amendment been at saving lives from abortion?

There exists a great deal of disagreement on many research topics which involve sanctity of life issues. However, when it comes to the Hyde Amendment, there is a great deal of consensus. Academic researchers — both pro-life and pro-choice — have concluded that the Hyde Amendment lowers abortion rates and saves lives. Over 15 academic studies, published in a range of economics, public health, and political science journals show that limits on Medicaid funding of abortions lower abortion rates. In 2010, the Center for Reproductive Rights published an analysis which found that the Hyde Amendment had prevented 1 million abortions since 1976. My 2016 Charlotte Lozier Institute study which was revised in 2020, found that the Hyde Amendment has saved over 2.4 million lives and continues to save approximately 60,000 lives every year.

What other bad news is contained in this budget?

In addition to excluding the Hyde Amendment, this budget should concern pro-lifers for other reasons. The budget calls for a repeal of the Dornan Amendment, which would make it possible for the District of Columbia Medicaid program to fund elective abortions. This will likely result in hundreds of more abortions being performed on women who live in the nation’s capital.

It also proposes a 19 percent increase in funding to the Title X family planning program, which likely would result in millions of additional taxpayer dollars going to Planned Parenthood and other abortion facilities. During his time in office, President Trump prevented abortion facilities from receiving Title X funds. However, President Biden is in the process of reversing this policy.

The budget proposal also includes a whopping 72 percent increase in funding for the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), which has supported the Chinese government’s population-control activities, including forced abortions.

Do you believe this sets a new precedent for Democratic presidents?

I believe that this does set a new precedent for Democratic Presidents. Pro-abortion activists have obtained a great deal of influence over the Democratic Party. They will expect future Democratic Presidents to submit budgets that exclude the Hyde Amendment. Democratic Presidents will likely propose budgets without Hyde protections to curry favor with these pro-abortion activists — even in years when they face Republican Congresses who will pass appropriations bills that contain the Hyde Amendment.

How can the pro-life movement respond?

The pro-life movement can respond in several ways:

A) Pray. Prayer is powerful.

B) People can contact their Congressmen and Senators. Elected officials want to get re-elected. If there is a groundswell of support for the Hyde Amendment in their state or their district, they will notice. Additionally, Democratic margins in the House and Senate are slim and several Democrats represent districts that President Trump won in 2020. Overall, taxpayer funding for abortions polls poorly and Democrats may not want to risk their majorities in the House and Senate on this issue.

C) Get on social media. Pro-lifers are going to invest heavily in defending the Hyde Amendment this summer. Pro-life groups like the Susan B. Anthony List, Americans United for Life, National Right to Life, Family Research Council, Live Action, Democrats for Life, and Students for Life will be coordinating social media campaigns to save the Hyde Amendment. Pro-life activists from across the country are encouraged to get involved!

"In a perfect world, baby boxes are not needed, but as everybody knows, we don't live in a perfect world." So says Bedford, Indiana Fire Chief John Hughes, who welcomed the installation of a Safe Haven Baby Box at his fire station. The effort to make Baby Boxes available throughout the world is the inspiration of Monica Kelsey, whose mission was born out of her own pain and suffering after discovering how she came into the world. LifeSite sent our team of Michael Hogan and Jim Hale to Bedford to meet Monica, and a couple of very special "saved" babies.
