World Economic Forum head’s prediction of microchips ‘in our brains’ is coming true, thanks to Big Tech

Great Reset leader Klaus Schwab’s prediction of widespread brain microchips is quickly turning into a reality, as top tech firms like Facebook move forward with experimental ‘brain-reading' technology.

ANALYSIS

July 19, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – A top globalist’s prediction of widespread brain reading technology is rapidly proving true, as Big Tech companies advance implantable microchip and other “transhumanist” projects.

In a recently unearthed video, Klaus Schwab, founder of the World Economic Forum (WEF), called for microchips to be implanted “in our brains.” Schwab, who leads the WEF’s “Great Reset” program, detailed his microchip prediction in a 2016 interview with Swiss broadcasting group RTS, saying that brain chips would be widely introduced “certainly in the next ten years.”

“And at first we will implant them in our clothes,” he said. “And then we could imagine that we will implant them in our brains, or in our skin. And in the end, maybe, there will be a direct communication between our brains and the digital world.”

“What we see is a kind of fusion of the physical, digital, and biological world.”

He imagined calling someone without using a physical device or even having the reflex to do so. One could simply “speak and say: ‘I want to connect now with anyone now,’” Schwab said.

“And first you have the personalized robots,” he continued. “And I saw that Mr. [Mark] Zuckerberg predicted that at the end of year he will have his robot, his personalized butler, that is at his disposal.” Schwab envisioned that such an innovation would serve not only “a servant,” but as “an intellectual partner” – one that could learn through artificial intelligence.

This “technological revolution,” as Schwab termed it, “has the possibility to make you even more human,” by devolving tasks to machines and allowing people to pursue “really human” matters, like “love.”

Schwab’s predictions may appear easily dismissible as the ramblings of a Marxist social engineer from a Nazi-linked family. However, five years out, his microchip fantasy seems to have been just about spot-on.

Silicon Valley’s Great ‘Transhumanist’ Reset

Facebook, for example, has been building brain-reading technology since at least 2017. Months after Mark Zuckerberg announced that he indeed completed his “personal butler” robot, “Jarvis,” Facebook unveiled plans to develop a “brain mouse,” purportedly to allow users to type with their minds.

The social media giant’s brain-computer projects have made steady progress since then, with Facebook revealing a new wearable prototype connected to a “neural interface” earlier this year. An AI system piloted by Facebook researchers can reportedly convert brain data to text with an error rate as low as 3 percent.

Last week, a program backed by the company achieved “the first successful demonstration of direct decoding of full words” from brain activity, according to Dr. Eric Chang, a University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) neurosurgeon leading the research, which involves electrodes planted on the surface of a participant’s brain.

“On the hardware side, we need to build systems that have higher data resolution to record more information from the brain, and more quickly,” Chang said. In a post celebrating the initiative on Thursday, Facebook stressed that it “no interest in developing products that require implanted electrodes,” despite having funded the UCSF research.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has gone a step farther with his startup Neuralink, which aims to connect brains to digital devices through wireless microchips. Musk has said that he hopes that Neuralink will lead to “symbiosis with artificial intelligence.” The company’s first product “will enable someone with paralysis to use a smartphone with their mind faster than someone using thumbs,” he tweeted in April. Competitors, like Inbrain Neuroelectronics, are already cropping up.

Long before Neuralink, however, Bill Gates quietly trailblazed the implantable microchip field, personally commissioning birth control chips in 2012 from a group called Microchips Biotech.

According to the website of the Gates Foundation, the liberal billionaire and depopulation advocate has funded the project more than $20 million in recent years. The contraception microchips, designed to pump the morning-after-pill drug into users for more than a dozen consecutive years, are in a preclinical stage as of 2020.

Big Tech’s efforts to reengineer the human mind and body with invasive, experimental technology epitomize what Google’s Ray Kurzweil has described as “transhumanism.”

Machines “are powering all of us,” Kurzweil said in 2017. “They’re making us smarter. They may not yet be inside our bodies, but, by the 2030s, we will connect our neocortex, the part of our brain where we do our thinking, to the cloud.”

And amid the COVID-19 crisis, Silicon Valley has more resources than ever to make that Schwabian dream a reality. In June, Facebook became the fifth tech company to crack $1 trillion in valuation, trailing Apple and Microsoft, both of which have likewise moved into the brain-computer sphere.

Transhumanist tech giants also boast unprecedented access to the federal government under the Biden regime. Last Thursday, the White House, which is currently filled with Big Tech alum, revealed that it is flagging “disinformation” for Facebook.

“We’re flagging problematic posts for Facebook that spread disinformation,” White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said.

“There are also proposed changes that we have made to social media platforms,” she said, like “a robust enforcement strategy.”

LAKE CHARLES, Louisiana, July 19, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — A gathering this weekend on the Louisiana Gulf Coast may soon prove to have been a turning point in the sexual revolution as experts and activists layed out strategies to win back the many professions that have been corrupted by decades of the sexual revolution’s anti-life, anti-marriage, anti-child, anti-gender and anti-Christian ideologies.

Hosted by the Ruth Institute, the 4th Annual Summit for the Survivors of the Sexual Revolution obliterated the foundation of lies upon which the sexual revolution has been built, dismantling it brick by brick, using facts and truth-telling.

“The sexual revolution is irrational. It’s impossible. It can’t stand on its own. It needs force. It needs propaganda. It is a totalitarian ideology that no Christian should have anything to do with,” said Jennifer Roback Morse, founder of the Ruth Institute at the outset of the two-day event.

Roback Morse explained that much of that force has come from professionals in education, medicine and therapy, law, journalism, library science, and even research science who have become agents of the sexual revolution, aiding in the undermining of the family, marriage, and the complementarity of man and woman.

The sexual revolution is the creation of the global ruling class and has always been promoted from the top-down, often with force and power of government, said Roback Morse.

“The state is complicit,” the author of The Sexual State noted, “and is sometimes the root cause.”

“The global ruling class, no matter how powerful it may be, cannot implement everything it needs to get done all by itself.  They need the help and cooperation of competent, trained people, namely, people in the professions,” she continued.

The point of this summit is “to identify the ways in which we can stop doing their work and make it harder, not easier, for them” to achieve their goals.

Politicized science is propaganda, fraught with lies

“We are in an age of falsehood,” observed Fr. Paul Sullins, former professor of sociology at the Catholic University of America in Washington D.C., and currently a senior research associate at the Ruth Institute.

“It is not just in journalism or popular media that the news has become fake,” said Sullins.  “Science itself has become politicized, with well-connected and influential groups working to suppress evidence they don’t like and promote false conclusions that serve their purposes.”

“I encourage you not to believe or accept the falsehoods of today’s politicized science, but also, more importantly, to speak the truth in any way you can,” urged Sullins, who used charts to show how research is manipulated to affect change in public opinion and policy.

Renowned human behavior expert Susan Constantine demonstrated how some tear-jerking, pro-LGBT testimonials have been fabricated, and retired psychologist Laura Haynes showed that assertions made by medical and therapeutic professionals are often demonstrably false, employing lies to silence reasoned opposition and advance the cause of the revolution.

In a presentation that revealed the power that the abortion industry has wielded to cultivate future clientele through public schools, Sharon Slater, president of Family Watch International and the chair of the U.N. Family Rights Caucus, asked, “What kind of an organization would show sexually graphic images to children under the guise of sex education” and “profits from sexualizing children and selling: condoms, abortion, hormones, contraceptives, comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) programs, and sexual counseling?”

“Meet the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF),” said Slater. “They’re after the hearts and minds of our children.” The IPPF plays a crucial role in many major U.N. programs aimed at children.

A panel of three doctors --  Dr. Michael Parker, representative from the Catholic Medical Association; Dr. Quentin Van Meter, president of the American College of Pediatricians; and Dr. Donna Harrison, executive director of the American Association of Pro-Life Ob-GYNs – talked about how they were forced to form or join alternative medical associations after realizing that mainstream professional societies, including the once-venerable American Medical Association (AMA), which have been compromised by the sexual revolution.

Many professions have a fiscal interest in advancing the Sexual Revolution and maintaining its foundational falsehoods as true and so have no interest standing against it.

Family lawyers, family law courts, and social workers owe their livelihoods to our robust divorce culture; abortion is a thriving, multi-billion dollar industry employing medical professionals who profit from our throwaway culture; sexually active homosexuals depend on drug manufacturers in order to maintain some semblance of health; and the transgender contagion among young people now promises ever-increasing future prosperity for gender-affirming doctors and pharmaceutical corporations who produce the drugs and hormones required to for individuals to both transition and de-transition. Big Pharma wins either way.

Watch your language

Many of the speakers cautioned that the use of now-commonly used terms introduced by sexual revolutionary forces often constitutes a capitulation to those forces.

“Revolutionaries are very good at crafting language,” said Roback Morse. “Some of these ideological words have a whole ideology baked into them.”

“Unwanted pregnancy,” “unplanned pregnancy,” “family planning,” and “born that way” are terms that have been crafted “to achieve a particular ideological objective,” said Roback Morse. “It is almost never in your interest to use those words, so you’ve got to think carefully about what you want to say.”

Roback Morse said that she learned by experience not to use the term “same-sex marriage” because there’s no such thing. It’s not marriage: It’s a legal innovation removing the gender requirement for marriage. “Every time I say ‘same-sex marriage,’ I’m carrying water for the other [side].”

“There are certain words which are live hand grenades that have been rolled onto the field by your opponent.  If you pick it up, you’re going to die,” she warned. “Don't pick it up. Let it sit there.”

July 19, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – A new study by LGBT activists shows that 26 percent of queer youth claim they are nonbinary and another 20 percent question their gender identity.

The study, which surveyed 35,000 LGBT youth ages 13-24, was published by the Trevor Project. The LGBT activist organization claims to help transgender youth despite actively condemning reparative therapy.

About one-quarter of the youth surveyed believe they are “nonbinary,” meaning they identify as somewhere on the alleged spectrum between male and female or in an entirely different category.

These “nonbinary” youth used various terms to describe their genders, including “genderqueer,” “gender fluid,” “androgynous,” and “gender non-conforming.” The young people seem to be confused as to their true identity and use a slur of different pronouns, including they/them or completely made-up pronouns such as ze or xir.

The Insider reported the story with the headline: “More young people than ever identify as LGBT, and 1 in 4 are nonbinary.” The headline misleadingly gives the impression that 1 in 4 young people identify as ‘nonbinary’ when, in fact, only 1 in 4 of LBGT youths identify this way.

Another 2021 poll alleged that Generation Z is the queerest generation yet as 5.6 percent of 18-24-year-olds are part of the LGBT movement. In response, Jonah DeChants, research scientist for The Trevor Project, wrote in a statement, “These findings emphasize the need for policies that affirm nonbinary youth in their identities, such as respecting their pronouns and allowing them to change their name and gender marker on legal documents like driver's licenses and birth certificates.”

However, an increasing number of people are regretting their decision to attempt to change their gender and desire to revert back to their actual genders. Doctors and psychiatrists have exposed the dangers of the growing LBGT agenda.

Dr. Paul McHugh, a professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, explained that 80 percent to 90 percent of children with gender identity confusion “revert to their natal sex” if they are “left to their own devices.”

July 19, 2021 (LifeSiteNews— Emoji developers have proposed two new emoji designs in honor of World Emoji Day that depict a pregnant man and a pregnant androgynous person.

Pregnant Man and Pregnant Person were designed to “recognize that pregnancy is possible for some transgender men and non-binary people,” according to Emojipedia

The shocking designs, promoting the nonsensical idea of “trans pregnancy,” appear on an emoji draft list on Emojipedia alongside other emoji designs meant to illustrate radical “inclusivity” and other leftist ideas. For example, the androgynous, interracial Person with Crown is meant to be “a gender-inclusive alternative to the existing emojis for Princess and Prince,” and Coral will be “used as an icon to discuss climate change, given the impact of rising global temperatures on coral reefs.”

Designs for a “Gender Inclusive Dancer” emoji are also being explored.

“The above additions will mean that nearly all emojis can have default a gender neutral option, with choice to use a woman or man where relevant,” the website says beneath the designs.

The emojis have not yet been approved or released by the Unicode Consortium, the nonprofit organization which oversees emoji designs on devices.

Approved emojis are set to be published in September, and will appear on Google Pixel devices in October-December 2021, on Apple and Samsung devices in January-June 2022, and on Facebook and Twitter in January-June 2022.

vote for the Most Anticipated Emoji, organized by Emojipedia as a way to gauge public opinion, showed that only 5.3 percent of fans were anticipating the Pregnant Man emoji. The vote is not part of the approval process.

EU launches lawsuit against Hungary and Poland over ‘LGBTQ discrimination’

STRASBOURG, France, July 19, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – The European Commission (EC) has opened legal proceedings against European Union (EU) member states Hungary and Poland, both of which have been accused of infringing upon the “equality and the protection of fundamental rights” of their LGBT-identifying citizens by implementing laws protecting the innocence of children and limiting the spread of “transgender” and homosexual material.

The lawsuit was launched in response to Hungary’s recent decision to implement a crackdown on the dissemination of homosexual-promoting materials to children under age 18 (as part of a wider law punishing pedophilia in the country), and in response to Poland’s numerous “LGBT ideology-free zones” in which so-called “equality marches” often include lewd displays of sexual depravity, are banned and traditional marriage and family values are upheld. Around one third of Poland’s municipalities have signed on to the charter defending family rights.

In early July, EC president Ursula von der Leyen promised to use the “powers invested in” the executive branch of the EU to penalize those states whose rule of law “impedes European law.” To this end, the EC “is launching infringement procedures against Hungary and Poland related to the equality and the protection of fundamental rights,” a July 15 press release revealed.

In an earlier statement, Von der Leyen said that “Europe will never allow parts of our society to be stigmatised: be it because of whom they love, because of their age, their ethnicity, their political opinions, or their religious beliefs.” Accordingly, the Commission penned a notice to the administration in Budapest, warning that their new law which “prohibits or limits access to content that propagates or portrays the so-called ‘divergence from self-identity corresponding to sex at birth, sex change or homosexuality' for individuals under 18,” is in breach of “a number of EU rules,” seven in total.

Continuing, the statement asserted that “Hungary has failed to explain why the exposure of children to LGBTIQ content as such would be detrimental to their well-being or not in line with the best interests of the child.” The Commission thus considers it a duty to intervene with the country’s internal affairs.

Notably, alongside the alleged violations of the “freedom to provide services” and the “free movement of goods,” the EC believes that “the Hungarian provisions also violate human dignity, freedom of expression and information, the right to respect of private life as well as the right to non-discrimination as enshrined respectively in Articles 1, 7, 11 and 21 of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights.”

The EC likewise took umbrage with the “several Polish municipalities and regions” that adopted “LGBT-ideology free zones” resolutions. The EC stated its concern that “these declarations may violate EU law regarding non-discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation,” later issuing a notice to Polish authorities for “failing to comply with the principle of sincere cooperation” by declining to provide “the requested information” about these “zones” to the EU. The “sincere cooperation” directive stated that members “shall facilitate the achievement of the Union's tasks and refrain from any measure which could jeopardise the attainment of the Union's objectives.”

The EC received support from members of the EU, which overwhelmingly passed a resolution on July 8 denouncing the Hungarian law and stating that “LGBTIQ rights are human rights.” The resolution also formally requested that the EU use its new powers of “conditionality,” a mechanism to put pressure on members of the bloc to adopt certain laws, to strangle Hungary’s budget allocation, with the hope of coercing the nation to submit to the EU.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán rebuked Von der Leyen and the EC, stating emphatically that while the “European Parliament and the European Commission want that we let LGBTQ activists and organizations into the kindergartens and schools,” “Hungary does not want that.”

Continuing, the Hungarian premier declared that in his country “Brussels bureaucrats have no business at all, no matter what they do we will not let LGBTQ activists among our children.”

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki echoed Orbán’s sentiments in a July 15 statement, insisting that EU courts do not have the power to influence how sovereign jurisdictions operate, characterizing the tension with the EU as a “typical dispute of the doctrine.” Marek Ast, who heads Poland’s parliamentary commission for justice, backed Morawiecki, saying that “[t]he disciplinary regime for judges in Poland is not compatible with EU law.”

Ast added that, in the first place “the organization of the justice system is the sole competence of EU member states. Secondly, the standards that ECJ [European Court of Justice] is drawing from the EU treaties are not in line with Poland’s Constitution.”

In direct contrast, a spokesman for the EC claimed that “EU law has primacy over national law and all decisions by the European Court of Justice, including orders for interim measures, are binding on member states’ authorities and national courts,” rejecting outright the notion of national sovereignty.

Trump-appointed US Attorney chose to keep Hunter Biden probe quiet until after election

Unnamed officials convinced David Weiss not to seek search warrants or subpoenas that would have alerted the public to Hunter Biden's alleged corruption.

WASHINGTON, D.C., July 19, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – A U.S. Attorney hired by former President Donald Trump chose not to take actions alerting the American people to the fact that Hunter Biden, the troubled son of Trump’s then-opponent and now-President Joe Biden, was under federal investigation before the election, effectively denying the public information that may have informed their decision in November 2020.

Politico reported that last summer Delaware’s U.S. Attorney David Weiss agreed to hold off on seeking search warrants and issuing grand jury subpoenas related to the foreign business dealings and potential tax violations of the 51-year-old Biden, and that he specifically did so on the advice of unidentified “officials involved in the case” who wanted to avoid the “possibility that the investigation would become a months-long campaign issue.”

“To his credit, [Weiss] listened,” one person “involved in the discussions” said, claiming that any potential case against Biden “has way more credibility now.”

Whatever the presidential son’s legal future may hold, however, the decision greatly benefited Hunter’s father at the time.

Democrats impeached Trump in early 2020 for asking the Ukrainian government to help investigate Joe Biden’s role as Vice President in the ouster of a prosecutor who had been investigating Hunter’s business dealings in the country. Democrats accused Trump of abusing his power and pursuing baseless corruption claims for political gain.

Months later, Hunter’s business dealings became the subject of controversy again when the New York Post released a series of bombshell reports about a laptop belonging to Hunter that contained scores of emails and texts detailing how the Biden family made millions of dollars through Hunter’s facilitation of meetings between his father and business interests around the world. Democrats again tried to dismiss the story as “misinformation,” and their allies in traditional and social media worked to suppress its reach.

The existence of an ongoing federal investigation into Hunter Biden’s international business dealings likely would have significantly affected how the public viewed both the basis for Trump’s first impeachment and the credibility of the Post’s reporting, which in turn would have informed how they viewed both Trump and Biden going into the presidential election.

Politico noted that it was Trump himself who appointed Weiss to his position in 2017, acting on the recommendation of Delaware’s two Democrat senators, Tom Carper and Chris Coons.

MANITOBA, July 19, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – The Attorney General for the province of Manitoba wants lawyers from the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms (JCCF) to be held “accountable” after its former head admitted he had a Canadian judge followed by a private investigator.

In a statement issued last Thursday, Manitoba Justice Minister Cameron Friesen wrote that in his capacity as Attorney General, he has “written to the Law Society of Manitoba to request that it initiate an investigation into the conduct of lawyers associated with the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms.”

“It is gravely concerning that a private investigator was hired to conduct surveillance of a member of the judiciary, ostensibly to embarrass or intimidate the judge. This is an obvious invasion of privacy and it is difficult to believe that these actions were not intended to influence the outcome of the court case,” wrote Friesen.

“The lawyers involved must be held accountable for their actions, in order to maintain public confidence in the administration of justice, to protect the integrity of our independent judiciary and uphold the rule of law in Canada.”

As confirmed by JCCF on July 12, the group’s president John Carpay is taking an “indefinite” leave of absence after admitting he had Chief Justice Glenn Joyal of the Manitoba Court of Queen’s Bench and other government officials followed by a private investigator to see if they were breaking local COVID rules.

The JCCF said none of its board members were aware of Carpay’s plans. Carpay says he acted alone and his actions were “not discussed with Justice Centre clients, staff lawyers or Board members.”

JCCF Interim President fights back call to investigate its lawyers

In a statement dated July 15, recently-appointed interim president Lisa Bildy said the investigation called for by Friesen is “groundless and unjustified.”

“Although our litigation director, Jay Cameron, learned of the decision after the fact, none of the members of the board, staff lawyers or outside counsel had any knowledge of it. These facts have been stated in court and in our public statements on the matter,” she wrote.

“These efforts to damage the professional reputations of our lawyers are groundless and unjustified. None of our staff lawyers or outside counsel, including Ms. Pejovic, had knowledge of or involvement in the surveillance of officials.”

Bildy added that Carpay has “owned this mistake and will deal with whatever flows from it,” but the JCCF will continue to fight for Canadians freedoms.

“Many people in this country are counting on the Justice Centre to continue its work. The organization will use this opportunity to implement improvements in operations and decision-making processes, refocus on our mission, and continue our important legal battles on behalf of Canadians,” wrote Bildy.

According to a CBC news report, the Law Society of Manitoba confirmed it has “taken very seriously” Friesen’s request to investigate the JCCF, but that it is a complex case as it involves lawyers from many provinces other than Manitoba.

Ottawa human rights lawyer Richard Warman has also filed complaints demanding that JCCF Manitoba lawyer Allison Pejovic and litigation director Jay Cameron be investigated for any potential involvement in the hiring of the private investigator.

BLM activist accused of molesting 60+ kids returns to school board despite unfinished probe

DENVER, July 19, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – A Black Lives Matter (BLM) activist accused of sexually assaulting dozens of minors is returning to his position on the Denver Public Schools Board of Education despite the fact that the investigation into the allegations remains ongoing.

As LifeSiteNews covered in June, local BLM chapter Black Lives Matter 5280 went public in March with an accusation from an unidentified woman that Tay Anderson had sexually assaulted her. Anderson denied it, claiming he was “not aware of any actions of mine that could be considered or construed as sexual assault,” or of “any past partners who have considered anything I have done as sexual assault.”

The school board responded at the time simply by confirming there was “no pending criminal investigation or charge” and pledging to “review any additional information it receives immediately and consider appropriate next steps.” In April, the board hired the Denver-based outside firm Investigations Law Group to investigate the allegation.

On May 22, Denver mother-of-three and community activist Mary-Katherine Brooks Fleming testified before the Colorado House Judiciary Committee that 62 students had come to her for help about the same “sexual predator targeting DPS children,” with allegations ranging from unwanted touching to “violent acts of rape.” She said the students didn’t report their abuse because they were in the country illegally.

Though Brooks Fleming did not name the alleged predator, the school board subsequently confirmed she was referring to Anderson. He denied the accusations and said he was withdrawing from “everyday board functions” until the investigation was completed.

Now, however, ABC 7 reported that Anderson announced via letter to the board that he is “returning to my full duties as a duly elected member of the Denver School Board. This is effective immediately.”

Anderson says he has “fully cooperated and participated in” the investigation, but “can no longer wait” for an process in which the timeline “has changed multiple times,” as (allegedly) has the scope. “I have not been arrested, charged, or even contacted by any law enforcement agency regarding any of these false claims against me,” he declared. “And, more than anything, our DPS community has been fractured by these false allegations, and I am left compelled to try and heal the divisions which this situation has caused.”

The Denver school board responded with a statement standing by their decision to launch the investigation, which has cost more than $50,000 so far, and stressing that “it is not our role to tell them to shut down their investigation early, before they believe they have gathered and reviewed all available evidence.”

During a press conference last week, Anderson added that he has experienced suicidal thoughts, based not on feelings of guilt but “because I could no longer bear the weight of my own community thinking I was a sexual predator or that my family has been attacked in the public spaces.”

In response, the board released a letter that board president Carrie Olson had sent Anderson noting, “I'm sure you remember that when Jen Bacon and I talked to you on May29th [sic] we wanted to make sure you had your support systems in place to care for your mental health.”

Anderson’s letter says he has been told the investigation “will not be completed for at least another four or five weeks, leading us to mid-August.” Olson’s letter says the board is “committed to concluding the investigation before the start of the school year.”

The case has garnered national interest beyond Denver due in large part to Anderson’s membership in BLM, a far-left group associated with violent riots across the United States last year, the national organization of which recently praised the authoritarian government of Cuba for granting asylum to convicted cop-killer Assata Shakur.

The Post-Millennial has reported that, as a supporter of BLM, Anderson has vowed to “cement” BLM’s controversial ideology in school district policy and has accused the controversial group’s critics of “bigotry.”

July 19, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — A new poll suggests that a significant percentage of Americans on both sides of the political aisle would support seceding from the United States.

The YouGov and BrightLineWatch poll conducted last month asked participants whether they would “support or oppose” their state “seceding from the United States to join a new union,” the Daily Wire reported

Overall, 37 percent of participants reported they were in favor of secession, a number BrightLineWatch said was “distressingly high.” According to the study, roughly two-thirds of Republicans in the southern U.S. states and almost half of Democrats in the Pacific Coast states support separation from the union.

Analysis by the Daily Wire found that “Republicans and independents in the South were most favorable to secession, at 66 percent and 50 percent, respectively. Of Democrats polled, 47 percent in the Pacific states said they want to break off. Sizable portions of independents in the Heartland and Mountain states also wanted to form their own country.”

BrightLineWatch, an initiative dedicated to “monitor[ing] democratic practices in the U.S.” and calling “attention to threats to American Democracy,” said that “[a]s the country turns 245 years old, Americans have reasons to worry about the state of their democracy.” It said its study found “deep partisan polarization in perceptions of what is right and wrong with American democracy and the steps that should be taken to fix it.”

Experts who helped craft the study rated “the insurrection,” that is, the January 6 riot at the Capitol, “and [President Donald] Trump’s pressure on state officials to overturn the election as among the most abnormal and important events of his presidency,” with the initiative calling the doubts about the 2020 election and subsequent audit efforts “grave or serious threats to American democracy.”

BrightLineWatch said part of its study focused on the Maricopa County audit (which it called a “pseudo-audit”), saying it “sought to test how news of a partisan process questioning electoral outcomes would affect confidence in electoral integrity.”

Recent news from election audits ongoing in Arizona and Georgia have suggested discrepancies between official vote totals reported in the election and new tallies calculated after audits and independent review.

During a July 15 public senate hearing on the Maricopa County election audit, preliminary findings were revealed which indicated substantial discrepancies.

Doug Logan, CEO of Cyber Ninjas, the contracting firm leading the Arizona audit, said his team found that 74,243 mail-in ballots counted in the election had no clear record of having been mailed out by the county. In addition, Logan said roughly 18,000 names of people who voted had been removed from the voter rolls shortly after the 2020 election. 11,326 voters who were not on the rolls November 7 appeared on the rolls after the election, on December 4. Logan also said 3,981 individuals voted in the election after registering as late as October 15, 2020. Arizona law requires voters to register at least 29 days prior to an election.

It is unclear whether the discrepancies uncovered by the Arizona audit are reflective of fraud or clerical errors.

To date, Maricopa County has refused to turn over routers which were subpoenaed by the state Senate. Arizona Senate president Karen Fann said the Senate is looking at legal options to pursue the information they need to complete the audit, as well as looking to have county representatives “sit down at the table with us and help explain these anomalies, help us understand why two and two is not adding to four right now.”

Meanwhile, new evidence from Georgia’s Fulton County has found a number of potential problems, including double-counting of ballots and voting by individuals who moved away from the county.

After suing to obtain access to ballots cast in Fulton County in the 2020 election, a group called Voter GA found that 36 batches of mail-in ballots had been double-counted, amounting to a total of over 4,000 votes, Fox News host Tucker Carlson reported July 14.

A report published by The Federalist suggested that at least 10,300 votes had been illegally cast in the 2020 presidential election based on new evidence obtained from the National Change of Address (NCOA) database, which identified Georgia residents who had confirmed their relocations with the U.S. Postal Service.

BrightLineWatch alleges that Trump’s “false narratives about the 2020 election” as well as “his role in the January 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol” have been important in creating the level of division that has led significant percentages of Americans to support secession.

The polling group claimed that in contrast, “President [Joe] Biden made it a signature goal to reunite a country scarred by partisan and regional divides.”

However, many conservatives have argued that President Biden and other Democrats have used increasingly divisive rhetoric against their political opponents, employing Civil War terminology to characterize the Capitol riot on January 6 and laws that tighten security controls on elections.

“We’re facing the most significant test of our democracy since the Civil War,” Biden claimed in a speech at Pennsylvania’s National Constitution Center July 13, referring to Republican-led voter security measures enacted after the November presidential election. “That’s not hyperbole, since the Civil War.”

Biden appeared to suggest that the election security measures, combined with the January 6 riot, posed even greater threats to the union than the Civil War, a four-year long brutal conflict which threatened to permanently divide the nation and resulted in the deaths of roughly 750,000 Americans.

“The Confederates, back then, never breached the Capitol as insurrectionists did on January the 6th,” Biden said. “I’m not saying this to alarm you; I’m saying this because you should be alarmed.”

PARIS, France, July 19, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — A prominent French philosopher has denounced the recent move by the French government to  mandate COVID passports for many basic activities, warning that France is now entering an era of “totalitarian hygenism.”

Pierre Dulau, a philosopher and teacher of philosophy at the university of Strasbourg made the comments during a recent interview with the French news website “Aletia”, during which he also discussed his new book analyzing the impact of mask mandates on the social contract and the unique importance of the human face.

Dulau’s book was co-authored by fellow philosopher and teacher of philosophy Martin Steffens and published on the April 29th, 2021.

A summary of the book, which can be found on the French online bookshop “La Procure,” reads:

A reflection on the face as a political organ and as the foundation of the social contract, at a time where that organ is being masked because of the sanitary crisis. Highlighting the importance of the human face in social relationships, the two authors reflect on the psychological consequences of the crisis, unveiling a strategy of resistance to the current atmosphere of negativity.

The book is part of a rising political and philosophical current which addresses and opposes the gradual development of what the authors of the book call a “hygienist society” and what some demonstrators at recent nationwide protests were calling a “sanitary dictatorship.”

During the interview Dulau first the issue of the mask mandates which, in France, have been imposed in public spaces both indoors and outdoors for almost a year. The mandate for wearing masks in outdoor spaces in France was lifted only a month ago.

Dulau began the interview with a much-needed reminder of the significance and importance of the human face:

It’s important first of all to understand what a face is. The human face is both what shows our singularity and what makes us social beings at the same time. On the one hand it expresses what makes everyone irreplaceable and unique, on the other it’s also what doesn’t belong to us: my face is the part of me that I can’t see because it is immediately offered to others.

Commenting on the repercussions that the measure of the mask mandate may have on society, the author explained:

What does the mask do? It depersonalizes us, because it makes our singularity invisible, of course, but – what’s probably even worse – it excludes us from the eyes of the community. Yet that aspect is part of what constitutes our being! Literally speaking, you could say that the mask “defaces” us! Therefore, whilst the mask protects us, it does so at the price of what makes us human. We shouldn’t congratulate ourselves that such a measure could become a new social norm.

Dulau went on to discuss the idea of “social distancing,” a term that has become ubiquitous since the start of the crisis. When prompted to share his thoughts on the real meaning of these words, Dulau commented:

First of all, I think this expression is a contradiction in itself. The promise of society (…) is to allow each and every one to overcome the distance which separates them from others. To put distance at the heart of society equates admitting that there is no society but only an aggregate of individuals gathered together only by fate. Second of all, it must be pointed out that grammatically speaking, the word “distancing” is a continuous form. It indicates a process, a movement which gives no indication of ever stopping. That’s what we should fear…

Finally, when asked about the sanitary pass, Dulau expressed his concern over the erosion of liberties under the pretext of safeguarding health:

What I find alarming about the measures taken recently, is that they plan to split citizenship into echelons and ranks based on the supposed medical status of individuals. Let’s come back on the definition of slave in ancient times. Who is the slave? The one who prefers life over freedom.

Dulau’s interview was also the subject of a commentary by Abbé Gabin Hachette of the Priestly Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX) published last week on La Porte Latine, the SSPX website for the district of France. Abbé Gabin noted that “Martin Steffens and Pierre Dulau see in our current time a turning point, that of a transition to a new type of society using a sanitary pretext: the apparition of the Sars-CoV-2 virus.”

According to this idea, France would appear to be in its final transition stage towards this new society, with French President Emmanuel Macro announcing last week the decision to impose vaccination on healthcare staff and a COVID passport on all French citizen over 12.

Not only have thousands of people gathered on the streets in opposition to the new measures, but French politicians of all political parties, both left and right of the spectrum, have begun speaking up to denounce them.

On Monday, following the announcement of the new measures: Gilbert Collard, member of the French Souverainist party RN (Rassemblement National), in an interview RT France talked about the installation of a “vaccination dictatorship.”

“I am not against the vaccine. I am neither for nor against the vaccine. But I think that everyone should have options and I consider that forcing the population to get vaccinated (…) constitutes a violation of the freedom to dispose of one’s own body, and I think that is not normal,” Collard said.

On Thursday Nicolas Dupont-Aignan, founder of Gaullist and Souverainist party Debout La France, told French television channel LCI that the new mandates are “a grave violation of our societal model”.

In a video he posted on YouTube on Monday, Dupont-Aignan denounced what he called the “freedom-destroying measures, contrary to the fundamental principles of the Republic” and described President Macron as “dangerous”, going as far as saying: “this man has gone crazy.” Dupont-Aignan also launched a petition against the imposition of the COVID passport following Macron’s announcement.

Even Jean-Luc Mélanchon, a far left politician and founder of the French political party La France Insoumise, called Macron out on his decision in tweet he posted last Tuesday which read:

Contradictions, aberrations: Macron’s decisions smell of social discrimination and abuse of power. Example: the mandatory sanitary pass will be checked by non-vaccinated policemen. Welcome to absurdity-land.

Since Monday, the number of French intellectuals, politicians and journalists who have come out criticizing Macron’s policies has been growing by the hour. The hope of many now is that a decision of the Conseil Constitutionel, France’s highest constitutional authority, will prevent the proposals becoming law. French MPs will be gathering on Wednesday at an extraordinary session of Parliament to debate the bill which would introduce the mandates.

ATLANTA, Georgia, July 19, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — New provisional data released by the CDC Wednesday indicates that more than 93,000 Americans died from drug overdoses during 2020 amid unprecedented lockdowns, job losses, and delayed medical care. The number is the highest recorded in American history.

According to the CDC, an estimated 93,331 Americans died of drug overdoses between January and December 2020, compared with roughly 72,000 reported last year, an increase of almost 30 percent.

As reported by Breitbart, the data translate to 256 deaths a day, or 11 deaths every hour.

According to Breitbart’s analysis of the CDC data, “[o]nly two states, New Hampshire and South Dakota, experienced fewer drug overdoses last year than the year prior. Meanwhile, Vermont suffered a nearly 60 percent increase in drug overdoses in 2020 compared to 2019, along with a 52 percent increase in South Carolina and a 54 percent increase in Kentucky.”

Preliminary data published by San Francisco’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner last year found that more than twice as many of the city’s residents died of drug overdoses than from COVID-19 in 2020, with 708 recorded overdose deaths and 254 coronavirus-related deaths.

The CDC found a “concerning acceleration” of overdose deaths spiking between March 2020 and May 2020 when lockdowns, layoffs, social-distancing requirements, and other restrictions began to be imposed throughout the U.S.

“This is a staggering loss of human life,” Brandon Marshall, a Brown University public health researcher told the Associated Press (AP).

Marshall, who tracks overdose trends in his professional work, said “COVID has greatly exacerbated the crisis.”

The AP cited experts who have concluded that “[l]ockdowns and other pandemic restrictions isolated those with drug addictions and made treatment harder to get.”

A working paper published December 2020 by Casey Mulligan, Ph.D., a Professor in Economics at the University of Chicago who served as chief economist for the Council of Economic Advisers during the Trump administration, suggested that lockdowns and social-distancing requirements might have contributed to the steep rise of "deaths of despair" last year, including suicides and drug overdoses.

According to Mulligan, “Local data on opioid overdoses further support the hypothesis that the pandemic and recession were associated with a 10 to 60 percent increase in deaths of despair above already high pre-pandemic levels.”

Glenn Greenwald, co-founding editor of The Intercept and a former columnist for the Guardian, said in a twitter thread July 15 that there has “been a taboo on urging recognition of the costs not only of COVID but also the other side of the ledger: isolation, lockdown, economic and social desolation, etc.”

“Even now, urging a return to normalcy -- on the ground that excessive restrictions also kill -- is scorned,” Greenwald said.

As noted by Brietbart, virologist and former CDC Director Robert Redfield, M.D., also identified the “disruption to daily life due to the COVID-19 pandemic” as a significant factor leading to increased overdose deaths.

“As we continue the fight to end this pandemic, it’s important to not lose sight of different groups being affected in other ways,” Redfield said. “We need to take care of people suffering from unintended consequences.”

Drugs identified in cases of overdose deaths include fentanyl, heroin, and cocaine, with fentanyl identified in over 60 percent of last year’s overdose deaths according to CDC data.

Compared with recorded deaths measured from June 2018 to June 2019, opioid overdose deaths, especially those involving illicit fentanyl, increased by 38 percent from June 2019 to June 2020 months, the CDC reported

Fentanyl, which is a synthetic opioid 50 times more potent than heroin, is rapidly becoming a “drug of choice” for smugglers bringing illegal drugs across the U.S. border, according to NBC. Federal agents in El Paso, Texas, told the outlet fentanyl seizures have increased by 4,000 percent over the past three years.

FBI Director Christopher Wray said in June that there is “no question” drug cartel activity from Mexico is pouring into the United States amid the ongoing border crisis. Under the Biden administration illegal border crossings have skyrocketed 674 percent above last year, with the number of illegal crossings increasing each month.

According to the AP some experts suggest that given the proliferation of synthetic opioids, especially illicit fentanyl, the record rate of overdose deaths recorded last year is not likely to substantially decline this year.

News of last year’s overdose death toll comes as health officials, members of the media, and politicians continue to generate anxiety about variants of the coronavirus, which they allege are more contagious than the original strain.

Signalling a possible return to the kind of isolating measures imposed upon Americans during 2020, California’s Los Angeles County recently announced it was reimposing its indoor mask mandate for both vaccinated and unvaccinated Californians.

It is unclear whether shelter-in-place orders will follow as public health officials like Dr. Anthony Fauci continue to issue warnings about the allegedly more dangerous “Delta variant.”

“Always erring on the side of COVID safetyism is dangerous,” Greenwald suggested in his twitter thread

“Addiction, which leads to these overdose deaths, is a disease that comes from lack of connection, community, purpose, spirituality, fulfillment. Obviously, lockdown, joblessness and isolation make it so much worse.”

LifeSite journalists react to ‘cruel,’ ‘hateful’ new motu proprio restricting Latin Mass

'I don't understand how Pope Francis and others in the Curia can praise Eastern European liturgies for their tradition and beauty and yet be so cruel to those who love the classical form of the Latin Rite.'

July 19, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – Below are statements from LifeSite journalists who are attached to the Traditional Latin Mass (TLM), in response to Traditionis Custodes. LifeSite has launched a petition asking Pope Francis to rescind the divisive document. It can be signed here.

LifeSiteNews will continue to provide updates on and analysis of the document, as well as information about which bishops are moving to restrict the Old Rite of the Mass, in the coming days.

John-Henry Westen, editor-in-chief:

“In all things God works for the good of those who love Him” (Rom 8:28). No people I’ve ever seen in my life are more ardent lovers of God than those that love and strive to attend the TLM. During the lockdowns when most of the Novus Ordo Masses were closed to the faithful, some courageous priests offered the TLM, introducing countless daily Mass goers who knew nothing but the Novus Ordo to the Mass of the Ages. What Satan meant for evil was turned to good. Speaking as someone who goes to a Novus Ordo parish, even I can see that with this too, we will see the Lord’s glory shine. I believe the Ancient Mass will be resurrected to its full and proper supremacy. The faithful will face God with the priest at the Holy Sacrifice, chant will drown out banal pop songs, receiving Our Lord kneeling and on the tongue will be restored. And once this, the most important of restorations happens, we will see a turnaround in all the other abuses in the Church, sex abuse, and all of the modernist heresy. “First seek the Kingdom of God and His justice and all the rest shall be given to you.” The Kingdom of God is nowhere more present on earth than in the Holy Sacrifice. The fight for justice is closely linked to it, and in pursuing these ends we hasten our final beatitude. Be of great courage: Satan must be desperate if he is making a frontal attack on the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

Jim Hale:

The Latin Mass is the reason my dear son and I entered the Catholic Church in 2018, after a long and disappointing attempt to find a church in my then-diocese of Richmond, Virginia that even came close to the beauty of the Divine Liturgy at the Lutheran church to which I belonged. In 2019, my beautiful adopted Ukrainian daughter also came into the Church at St. Joseph’s parish (FSSP) in Richmond, and next month she will have a traditional wedding at St. Joseph’s, where she and her fiancé have been shepherded by the superb Father Karl Marsolle for the past year. None of this would have happened without us all having discovered the Latin Mass, the vibrant community that surrounds St. Joseph’s, and the devoted priests who are true fathers to their flock. I pray that others will not be deprived of the supernatural, transcendent experience of the Mass that my family and I have been blessed with in the past four years.

Image
My daughter Galyna Abramovich Hale entering the Church in 2019, standing alongside my son Christian and Father David Franco, FSSP, who expedited her complex entry. She had been baptized Orthodox without any documentation. Next month she will be married at this same altar.

Dr. Maike Hickson:

This is a terrible blow to Tradition in the Church, to the many young people and families who have now gone to the Traditional Mass for many years, raising their children in the Faith and Mass of all ages. We can only hope and pray that there will be a strong resistance to this unjust and sudden law, without any preparation, that puts all the bishops in a very awkward situation. This motu proprio is effectively an abrogation of the Mass of all ages, with the clear instruction that in the end, traditional Catholics will have to be content with the Latin canon of the Novus Ordo Mass. I do not believe that most people who were once able to assist at traditional Masses, devotions, and other celebrations will so easily let this go. They will fight for it. The time has come to stand up and not allow the hierarchy to further destroy the Catholic Faith and what is left of it in small pockets in the world.

So while we have Pope Francis collaborating with former collaborators of McCarrick, protecting abusive bishops like Bishop Zanchetta, we should accept that he is taking the most important thing away from us, the Traditional Latin Mass?

It is the lay people who will say no.

Dorothy Cummings McLean:

I'm shocked. I didn't begin assisting at the Traditional Latin Mass until I met the man who would become my husband, almost 13 years ago. Our whole marriage has been built on the TLM. Almost all of our Catholic friends in Britain – and on the European continent – attend the TLM. The Girl Guides I help with, the homeschooled children I teach – they all go to the TLM. One of my students, who is 13, and his brother have learned the responses so they can serve at the altar. How are their parents going to explain all this to them? Encountering Christ through the TLM is the bread and water of so many lives, including my husband's and mine. And my husband is a convert from the Anglican tradition: the terrible clownish Catholic liturgies at his university kept him out of the Church for years. It was discovering the TLM at long last that brought him in. I don't understand how Pope Francis and others in the Curia can praise Eastern European liturgies for their tradition and beauty and yet be so cruel to those who love the classical form of the Latin Rite.

Michael Haynes:

Traditionis Custodes is the long-awaited great act of war by Pope Bergoglio against the faith and Mass of Ages. It is an action designed with nothing else in mind other than the absolute desecration of the manner in which the Church's faithful seek to offer the liturgical sacrifice to God. We now face a new era of persecution of tradition. But we must also have hope, as the motu proprio also draws up the battle lines very clearly, and the hidden enemies of tradition will now be exposed. “In the end, my Immaculate Heart will triumph,” encourages Our Blessed Mother.

Stephen Kokx:

Far from being pastoral or merciful, this is a declaration of war by cunning forces in the Church that are aligned with the diabolical New World Order. It is the logical next step in the liberal agenda to do away with all that is unabashedly and unapologetically Catholic. What’s more, it’s a lashing out by a dying group of elderly churchmen against those who have refused and continue to refuse to go along with their syncretistic religion, which they promote with help from the children of darkness and corporate media.

We faithful now await to see which clergy will defend us from these wolves in sheep’s clothing. God gave us the great gift of Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre. Archbishop Viganò today seems to be carrying his message forward. Let’s pray more shepherds will awaken to the truths they speak and not only continue to offer the Traditional Mass, regardless of what any authority in the Church says, but to defend traditional doctrines and expose the modernist ones.

At the same time, one can perceive in this great treachery the work of God, who always brings good out of evil. As with the Great Reset and the COVID scamdemic, this attempt to crush that which has created and sustained saints for centuries is a laying bare of the true intentions of those who have set themselves up on the side of Satan. This monstrous assault on those Catholics who actually practice their faith is being allowed by the Almighty to take place for His eventual glorification.

Catholics everywhere now have the duty to resist Peter to his face and to educate themselves and others on the traitorous deeds being perpetrated against them. God doesn’t want unthinking “obedient” drones. He wants those who have “tested all things” and “held to the traditions” of our cherished faith. These are the times we have been born into and the heavy cross we have all been given. I pray that Catholics, laity and clergy, will carry it with the same joy and steadfastness that Christ did, no matter what persecution, or martyrdom, they’ll face in the coming years for doing so.

Emily Mangiaracina:

Pope Francis’s presumption to abrogate Quo Primum — which decreed the use of the Tridentine Mass in perpetuity, without alteration — provokes the wrath of Almighty God Himself.

The Apostolic Constitution Quo Primum, the most solemn form of legislation issued by the pope, “ordain[ed] that no one whosoever is forced or coerced to alter” the Missal of Pope St. Pius V, and that Quo Primum “cannot be revoked or modified, but remain always valid and retain its full force.”

“No one whosoever is permitted to alter this notice... Would anyone, however, presume to commit such an act, he should know that he will incur the wrath of Almighty God and of the Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul.”

Father Raymond Dulac has said that “If a pope has the power to loose what another pope by the same power has bound, then he should use this right only for the gravest possible reasons: reasons which would have prompted his predecessor to revoke his own law. Otherwise, the essence of supreme authority is itself eroded by successive contradictory commands.”

The supreme law of the church is the salvation of souls (Canon 1752), and it is to this end that Quo Primum was solemnly written. Seeing the countless saints and martyrs nourished by the TLM, and current-day revivals of faith through the TLM, it is clear its spiritual track record towers over that of the Novus Ordo — which triggered a nose dive of Catholic faith - like a mountain over a molehill.

To restrict the TLM defies reason, and opposes the very law of the Church. Traditionis Custodes is therefore, as Aquinas and Augustine would have said, no law at all.

David McLoone:

I have only been attending the Traditional Latin Mass since 2016, but in this short time I have grown to fall deeply in love with the worship offered in this grand and ancient liturgy. With its solemnity, reverence, and clearly Christ-centred focus, it stands as unmistakably Catholic against the once-creeping and now-gushing influence of modernism and Protestantism within the walls of the Church. The news of harsh restrictions being imposed on the TLM, therefore, cuts a deep wound in my heart, as a new era of persecution against faithful Catholics, clergy and faithful alike, holding fast to the Church’s most revered Tradition, is swiftly ushered in. Pope Francis’s motu proprio Traditionis Custodes is a stinging slap in the face to Catholics who simply want to give their lives to God in the imitation of Christ, made all the more odious by the Pope’s refusal to reign in clerics and laymen who would seek to undermine Christ’s teachings. Francis has thus shown himself to be not simply an enemy to Traditional-minded Catholics of good will, as has been continually evidenced throughout his poisonous pontificate, but to God and His Holy Church. May God have mercy on him and us.

Claire Chretien:

The seething spite Pope Francis has for Catholics who are attached to the traditional liturgy – the liturgy that almost all of the saints throughout Church history attended – is palpable in this hateful and unjust document. The man who has been entrusted with protecting and defending the faith yet has spent the last eight years dismantling, obfuscating, and weakening it has now openly declared war on the Catholic faithful, the very people who look to him to safeguard the Truth. It’s abundantly clear that high-ranking prelates at the Vatican don’t practice the Catholic faith. They want the Mass of the Ages to go extinct, and the new, draconian restrictions on its celebration are intended to achieve that.

Obedience has its limits. If your priest told you to jump off a cliff, would you? What if your bishop told you to? The pope? Pope Francis has done the equivalent of this with Traditionis Custodes. Any order telling Catholics it isn’t good or normal to attend a rite of the Mass that the Church has always taught is the equivalent of heaven kissing earth is uncatholic and ignorant, and such an order should be promptly ignored.

Nothing will ever stop me from going to the Traditional Latin Mass. If there is a priest who will offer this rite, I will be there. I won’t be intimidated by anyone bleating at me about “schism” or “unity.” Contrary to what you may hear in the coming months and years, it is not schismatic to do what Catholics have always done; in fact, it is the opposite of schismatic. Those who want real unity in the Church ought to embrace Her universal language and liturgy. But right now, Pope Francis and his Peronist allies are spitting in the faces of the people who do just that.

Jeanne Smits:

For us going to the traditional Mass is a given, a necessity. When preparing our marriage in 1994, we asked for the Tridentine Mass in my country parish. “You privileged people, you always think you’re entitled to the best,” the left-wing rector angrily retorted. We asked him why “ordinary” Catholics had been deprived of it…

Now we have children of our own, whom we navigated through “new” Masses at school, the splendid Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostomos in the Greek Melkite parish of Paris, and mostly, the Traditional Latin Mass. Today, all three would no longer conceive of going anywhere else. Its power of attraction on the young is enormous, as a church full of TLM-goers, teeming with young people, adolescents, children, and plenty of babies proved this Sunday morning.

All were afraid that it would be the last TLM in that parish church, because Traditionis Custodes (with its horribly ironic title, “guardians of tradition”) aims to eradicate it from public view, discouraging those who love it and keeping away those who might be attracted to it. After Pope Francis’s cruel words, it was a balm indeed to hear the parish priest proclaim, with the local bishop’s blessing: “We have had the traditional Mass here for more than twenty years. Everything will continue as before.”

Many ignore how much stubbornness, steadfastness, willingness to be depreciated and also to fight was necessary to earn a full right of citizenship for the ancient, God-centered liturgy of the Church. Truly, Benedict XVI offered a great gift to the Latin Church because so many, thanks to Summorum Pontificum, have discovered the “old” Mass’s divine sacrificial beauty and its sense of adoration.

As the years went by, I also realized that the pro-life movement in many places tended naturally to move ever nearer to the traditional liturgical movement: the culture of death is perhaps but a consequence or a corollary of the death of the cult, and the culture of life needs be nourished by the truly living cult that best gives us the gift of the Church, “Jesus Christ spread abroad and communicated.”

Pope Francis has opened hostilities against the liturgical riches of so many centuries, and singled out the defenders of the traditional rites for episcopal vindication. Our faith obliges us to love our enemies, and we will continue to pray for God’s mercy on his and our souls, but we will fight on. It’s a battle that has been won once already in the last 50 years, and it will be won again.

Taken from Jeanne Smits’s full reflection on the new motu proprio, which can be read here.

OTTAWA, Ontario, July 19, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — Americans may have the opportunity to take their summer holidays in Canada, but only if they’ve been inoculated against COVID-19.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on July 15 that he may allow U.S. citizens who have been “fully vaccinated” to enter Canada in mid-August. According to Bloomberg, about half of the United States is considered fully vaccinated.

According to the official government report on the telephone conversation Trudeau had with the premiers of Canada’s provinces and territories, the Prime Minister acknowledged “the ongoing discussions with the United States on reopening plans, and indicated that we could expect to start allowing fully vaccinated U.S. citizens and permanent residents into Canada as of mid-August for non-essential travel.”

American visitors could be joined later by people travelling from anywhere else in the world.

“The Prime Minister noted that, if our current positive path of vaccination rate and public health conditions continue, Canada would be in a position to welcome fully vaccinated travellers from all countries by early September,” the report continued.

The Canadian government has previously announced that it is creating a vaccine database and passport system to track its own citizens. Trudeau has said that local provinces will be allowed to create their own vaccine passport requirements.

“Different provinces will be doing different things, where the federal government has a role to play and where we are looking is in terms of vaccine certification for international travel,” Trudeau said in a press conference last week, according to CBC News.

Vaccination passports are opposed by civil rights activists. Allison Kindle Pejovic, a lawyer for Canada’s Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms, told LifeSiteNews in June that the vaccine passport created by the province of Manitoba created an inequal society.

“This vaccine passport system creates a two-tiered society whereby those who have chosen to be vaccinated are treated differently and discriminatorily compared to those who have not chosen to get the vaccine,” she stated.

BYU-Hawaii denies vaccine exemption for student with autoimmune disorder

“This is not a choice for me," Olivia Sandor explains.

LAIE, Hawaii, July 19, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) - A university student has been denied entry into Brigham Young University-Hawaii (BYU) because she cannot take the COVID-19 vaccine as a result of a potentially vaccine-induced condition.

In June, BYU in Hawaii mandated the COVID-19 vaccine for all students and staff. One student, Olivia Sandor, appealed for a medical exemption because she suffers from Guillain-Barre syndrome, an autoimmune disease affecting the nervous system, which can be triggered by vaccination.

Sandor says in a July 13 Instagram post that she was paralyzed from the waist down after taking an influenza vaccine in 2019. She eventually regained her ability to walk; however, her doctors have warned her that taking another vaccine could result in permanent paralysis or death.

Taking the COVID-19 vaccine “could end in permanent paralysis, and possibly death if it spread up my body,” she explains. “This is not a choice for me. The CDC has strongly advised against it and so have all of my medical providers.”

Sandor says her doctors sent the university documentation verifying her statement, but BYU has failed to recognize Sandor’s condition, demanding that she receive the vaccine regardless of the serious threat to her life. She then appealed to the President of BYU Hawaii, John S.K. Kauwe III, explaining her condition. The president promised to review her case. Four days later, he replied that the university still insists she be vaccinated.

LifeSite has reached out to Kauwe for a comment on the situation, but has not received a response by the time of publication.

BYU’s Director of Health Services Laurie Abregano suggested that Sandor take either the Moderna or the Pfizer vaccine. University physician Dr. Ember Christensen claimed that the Moderna vaccine has not “shown any association with triggering GBS.”

Turning Point USA has reported other such cases at BYU. In one, a student with only one semester remaining is being denied completion of his degree because he was unwilling to take the experimental vaccine. Another senior student said he appealed the mandate but was told by BYU that “If you don’t want the vaccine, then you won’t be allowed to come to school and will need to go elsewhere.”

Many American colleges and universities are mandating the experimental vaccine for in-person learning this fall, despite evidence of dangerous possible side effects. Many international colleges, including Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Brown, Columbia, and Cornell will be forcing their students and staff be vaccinated.

Ontario Premier says no to mandatory COVID jabs and vaccine passports

Doug Ford has unprecedented power in his province but no will to force vaccinations or create a "split society"

TORONTO, Ontario, July 19, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – The Premier of Ontario will not force residents of his province to be inoculated against COVID-19.

Premier Doug Ford told reporters on Thursday that his government will neither make COVID-19 injections mandatory nor create “a split society” by implementing local vaccine passports.

“I’ve never believed in proof [of vaccination cards]. […] We aren’t doing it, simple as that,” Ontario Premier Doug Ford told reporters when asked if he would introduce a vaccine passport at the local level.

“The answer is no. We aren’t going to do it; we aren’t going to have a split society.”

Despite saying no to provincial vaccine passport, Ford said he will be talking to Canadian Prime Minster Justin Trudeau regarding a national proof of vaccination document.

Trudeau said in June that this autumn his government will be rolling out a type of “national certification of vaccination status” that travelers can use to prove they’ve had the “full” two doses of the COVID-19 jab.

Meanwhile, Ford has said “no one” in Ontario, including health care workers, will be forced to get a COVID-19 shot, saying it is their “choice.”

“No, I think it’s their constitutional right to take it, or not take it; these are super bright people that work their backs off,” said Ford.

“We encouraged them to do it; I’ve been out here for months, begging, pleading [for] everyone to get it, but no one should be forced to do anything.”

Ford also said, when asked by a reporter regarding private companies mandating COVID-19 injections as a condition of employment, that he is “not in favor of a mandatory certification, I’m just not. And by the way, neither is the chief medical officer.”

The premier also took the time to encourage COVID-19 injections again, saying, “Please get out there and get vaccinated.”

Ford stated that he “can’t stand lockdowns” and that the province “can’t afford one.” When asked if he would again lock down the province, the Premier said he enacted them only on the advice of the Chief Medical Officer of Ontario.

Ontario moved into Step 3 of its reopening plan on Friday, meaning cinemas, restaurants, and gyms were open after having been closed for months. Churches are allowed to operate with no capacity limits as long as “physical distancing” can be maintained.

Ford has come under fire from both politicians and doctors for imposing some of the harshest COVID-19 restrictions in North America.

Recently, Randy Hillier, the Independent MPP for Lanark — Frontenac — Kingston, told LifeSiteNews that although Ford revoked the province’s Declaration of Emergency last month, his government voted to extend the Reopening Ontario Act until December of 2021.

Hillier said this still means Ford has vast powers never afforded to him before the COVID-19 crisis hit.

Independent Ontario MPP Roman Baber was booted from Ford’s Progressive Conservative Party in January for opposing COVID-19 lockdowns.

Baber has also accused Ford of creating a “police state” due to COVID-19 restrictions, and said Ford’s “government has lost legitimacy to govern,” due to what Baber listed as a myriad of virus lockdown-related unintended consequences.

The MPO has also sued the government for restrictions around outdoor prayer and gatherings.

Ford’s comments on vaccines echo those of Alberta Premier Jason Kenney, who recently said that his government will neither introduce a provincial “vaccine passport” nor accept one if imposed at the federal level.

However, two other Canadian provinces will be going ahead with forms of proof of vaccination for non-essential services.

Brian Pallister Premier of the province of Manitoba said earlier last week that only those who have had two COVID-19 jabs will be allowed the “extra privileges” of accessing such popular venues as cinemas, sporting events, and museums.

In the late spring, Pallister officially launched the province’s immunization card program for those who have received both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.

In May, the Quebec government announced that they will now send “electronic proof” in the form of a QR code to those who have had a COVID-19 jab.

Recently, the government of Quebec threatened to enforce a local COVID-19 vaccine passport which would limit access to services deemed non-essential.

Los Angeles reinstitutes indoor mask mandate for all, including the vaccinated

‘Masking indoors must again become a normal practice by all, regardless of vaccination status.’

LOS ANGELES, July 19, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – While significant evidence indicates no effective justification for their latest policy change, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LAPH) has reinstituted an indoor mask mandate which applies to both the unvaccinated and the vaccinated.

In a Thursday press conference, Los Angeles County Health Officer Dr. Muntu Davis said, "[m]asking indoors must again become a normal practice by all, regardless of vaccination status, so that we can stop the trends and level of transmission we are currently seeing."

A tweet sent out by LAPH asserted, “[w]earing a mask indoors with others reduces the risk of both getting & transmitting the virus. We’re requiring masking for everyone while indoors at public settings & businesses, regardless of vaccination status so that we can stop the increased level of transmission we're seeing.”

According to KCAL9, this policy change comes, “as more than 1,000 COVID cases a day have been reported in the county over the last seven days,” including 452 people in the nation’s largest county being hospitalized with COVID-19, and of these, 96 are in intensive care units.

It was not clear if these patients were admitted due to complications from the virus specifically, or if for another complication while also merely “testing positive” for COVID-19 with a very flawed testing method.

The rationale behind mask mandates is first premised on the notion that healthy people, without symptoms, can unwittingly transmit this virus to others, despite evidence for this theory being scarce, if existing at all.

In fact, in June 2020, the World Health Organization admitted that asymptomatic spread of COVID-19 is “very rare.” Furthermore, a study of almost 10 million people in Wuhan, China in December 2020 found that asymptomatic spread of COVID-19 did not occur at all.

In an interview featured in the masterfully produced documentary, “Following the Science?,” former Pfizer vice president and Chief Scientist for Allergy & Respiratory, Dr. Michael Yeadon, stated, “this idea that you can be ill, even though you have no symptoms, and you can be a respiratory virus threat to someone else … [was] invented in 2020. There’s simply no history of it. And it defies common sense as well.”

In an unspecified briefing reported to have occurred in January 2020, Dr. Anthony Fauci expressed a similar view. At the time, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, stated

[I]n all the history of respiratory born viruses of any type, asymptomatic transmission has never been the driver of outbreaks. The driver of outbreaks is always a symptomatic person. Even if there is a rare asymptomatic person that might transmit, an epidemic is not driven by asymptomatic carriers.

And despite his contrary demands over the last year that even children be subjected to mask requirements in school, including recently, an email obtained through a Freedom of Information request recently revealed Fauci’s clear understanding that there is no reason for the healthy to wear masks. Writing in February 2020 to Obama-era health secretary and former Gates Foundation executive Sylvia Burwell, the present chief medical advisor to Joe Biden wrote:

Masks are really for infected people to prevent them from spreading infection to people who are not infected rather than protecting uninfected people from acquiring infection.

On another occasion, in March 2020, Fauci affirmed the same point in an interview on 60 minutes saying, “[t]here's no reason to be walking around with a mask,” and when people do, “there are unintended consequences — people keep fiddling with the mask and they keep touching their face.”

While studies overall reveal “little to no evidence for the effectiveness of face masks,” wearing them “for a prolonged period of time is not harmless.” Masks have been shown to 1.) cause “difficulty breathing and skin rashes,” 2.) “significantly reduce the resilience and performance of healthy adults,” 3.) cause “severe psychosocial consequences,” provide dangers of poisoning due to the “inhalation of chlorine compounds in polyester,” and even cause death.

In summarizing the data, one commentator simply states, “the policy [of mask mandates] is all pain and no gain and should be abandoned without delay.”

French Pasteur Institute study shows how well Ivermectin can treat COVID-19 infection

In a normal world the Pasteur Institute’s study would mark a turning point in the COVID-19 crisis, relativizing the 'vaccine' narrative.

ANALYSIS

July 19, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – Ivermectin (IVM) attenuates COVID-19 inflammation and other clinical symptoms in animals infected with SARS-CoV-2, according to a recent study by the French Pasteur Institute. The paper was published in EMBO Molecular Medicine last Monday and states clearly that “standard doses” of Ivermectin can prevent clinical deterioration and reduce olfactory deficit. The abstract noted: “Altogether, this study supports the use of immunomodulatory drugs such as IVM, to improve the clinical condition of SARS-CoV-2-infected patients.”

In a normal world the Pasteur Institute’s study would mark a turning point in the COVID-19 crisis, relativizing the “vaccine” narrative. It is remarkable that the study was published on the very day that French president Emmanuel Macron announced what amounts to mandatory vaccination for the entire population aged 12 and over: compulsory vaccination of all healthcare workers and members of related professions, and a universal COVID passport that would require testing every two days for those who refuse the jab to be able to live normally – with a 10,000 euro fine for individuals who would try to enter cafés, restaurants, hospitals, homes for the elderly, long-distance trains and coaches, cinemas, shopping centers, and the like.

The first line of abstract of the Pasteur study, led by Guilherme Dias de Melo, de facto cast severe doubts on the relevance of the exclusive “vaccine” policy of the French government, stating: “The devastating pandemic due to SARS-CoV-2 and the emergence of antigenic variants that jeopardize the efficacy of current vaccines create an urgent need for a comprehensive understanding of the pathophysiology of COVID-19, including the contribution of inflammation to disease.”

It continued: “It also warrants for the search of immunomodulatory drugs that could improve disease outcome. Here, we show that standard doses of ivermectin (IVM), an anti-parasitic drug with potential immunomodulatory activities through the cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway, prevent clinical deterioration, reduce olfactory deficit, and limit the inflammation of the upper and lower respiratory tracts in SARS-CoV-2-infected hamsters.”

The study showed that Ivermectin did not reduce the viral load of the infected hamsters but did “dampen” and “modulate” several types of inflammatory response, even “dramatically” reducing “the Il-6/Il-10 ratio in lung tissue.” The researched noted that IVM “promotes macrophage M2 polarization, which might account for the more favorable clinical presentation of IVM-treated animals.” It was more efficient in female than in male hamsters.

Ivermectin, at first used for the treatment of veterinary parasitic diseases, earned its promoters for use in humans against tropical parasites, William C. Campbell and Satoshi Ōmura, the 2015 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.

Repurposing of the molecule for use against COVID-19 is now widespread – in particular in India – but the cheap drug is being almost systematically side-lined by health authorities in many countries in the world, despite empirical data showing that users are at a far smaller risk of hospitalization, while patients who have already developed a severe form of the disease have better outcomes.

These data are ridiculed by many health authorities: the FDA warns against the use of Ivermectin not only in veterinary form (which seems mere common sense because of improper dosage) but even in forms approved for human beings: “Taking a drug for an unapproved use can be very dangerous. This is true of ivermectin, too.”

The World Health Organization is also trying to get people not to take Ivermectin as a remedy against COVID-19, with its official guidelines recommending that “the drug only be used within clinical trials.”

The Pasteur study, on the other hand, is very positive about IVM as a treatment for COVID-19. Although it was conducted on hamsters, its methodology allowed the team of researchers to observe and monitor the drug’s action and effects on the lung tissue of the treated animals, in processes that are comparable to what happens in humans infected with the Wuhan coronavirus.

The results of the study, as presented by Dias de Melo and his team, were particularly affirmative:

We report that ivermectin, used at the standard anti-parasitic dose of 400 µg/kg, protects infected hamsters from developing clinical signs and from losing the sense of smell during SARS-CoV-2 infection. The treated animals exhibited a specific inflammatory response, presenting a reduced type I/III interferon stimulation and a modulation in several intracellular signaling pathways, with an important reduction of the Il-6/Il-10 ratio and promoting M2 polarization of myeloid cells recruited to the lung. These effects are strongly influenced by sex, with treated females exhibiting the best outcome. Surprisingly, ivermectin treatment did not limit viral replication, as treated and non-treated animals presented similar amounts of SARS-CoV-2 in the nasal cavity and in the lungs.

Indeed, “IVM-treated infected animals exhibited a significant reduction in the severity of the clinical score, in a sex-dependent manner: Infected males presented a significantly reduced clinical score, and it fully returned to normal in infected females.”

The complete study is available here.

The French mainstream press widely quoted the study, in particular Dias de Melo’s statement regarding the “scientific demonstration” that Ivermectin has a “protective activity” in animals infected with SARS-CoV-2 that have developed a “moderate to severe” form of the disease.

The supposedly conservative daily Le Figaro deliberately downplayed the importance of the research, pointing at the gullibility of “anti-vaxxers” who applauded the study. The daily accused them of having “forgotten” that official studies have concluded that positive studies on IVM are “very unreliable” and that the WHO does not recommend it.

Prominent vaccination promoter Dr. Laurent Alexandre, who believes in upgrading man in the context of the rise of artificial intelligence, even published a tweet saying the Pasteur study only shows “the reduction of one minor symptom in a tiny subgroup of female hamsters and only females” (olfactive loss) and “no impact on serious symptoms.”

All those who take the trouble to read the research can see he is lying in plain sight.

Why should ‘choice’ only mean abortion?

Alliance for Life Ontario is working to save Canadian mothers who, after taking the first pill in the chemical abortion regimen, change their minds and want to save their babies.

July 19, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – Many women choosing a medical abortion (Mifegymiso in Canada) change their minds having taken the first pill.

Abortion Pill Reversal has been developed to assist these women who want to save their children from the effects of the first pill in this protocol (Mifepristone).

Records indicate that so far, 112 Canadian women have contacted the Abortion Pill Rescue Network for information on stopping an ongoing chemical abortion, with 57 choosing to undergo the abortion pill reversal procedure. Nine of these women have reported successful interventions with one mother agreeing to provide her testimony

Abortion Pill Rescue believes there are many more Canadian babies alive whose mothers have not yet reported back their success stories.

The message that Alliance for Life Ontario is conveying to Canadian women is that there is a safe, effective (64% to 68%) method that may save their children if they have second thoughts after starting the Mifegymiso process.

It seems Canadian abortion advocates do not want women to know that this second chance at “choice” exists, as they are currently engaged in a campaign to silence the message that Alliance for Life Ontario is providing for these women.

In April 2021, MP Pam Damoff called our facts “dangerous misinformation” in Parliament. This is an outrageous lie, but parliamentary privilege protects her from the consequences of that lie. Our Facebook page has been taken down after erroneous complaints, our Google ad campaign has been limited, and now our website abortionpillreversal.ca is being attacked with complaints being made to Health Canada. Since this Health Canada avenue did not work, we are awaiting possible complaints to the Ontario Ministry of Health and the College of Physicians of Ontario from the so-called “pro-choicers.”

Abortion Pill Reversal is being offered around the world with 2,000 little ones saved to-date. Women deserve to know the truth about this second chance at choice and that there are physicians trained and willing to help them try to save their children using similar methods to those used for the last 50 years to assist in the prevention of miscarriage.

However, the politicization of abortion and medical science has world medical bodies, including those in Canada, expressing opposition to the use of progesterone protocols to save these tiny children from the effects of abortion drugs. Physicians are being hauled up before kangaroo courts to explain why they are using drugs “off-label” to save a life – and yet these same medical bodies appear to have no problem with the use of drugs “off-label” to kill a child in the womb.

The Ontario Ministry of Health has reported to Alliance for Life Ontario that a total of 45,363 prescription claims from Canadian pharmacies for Mifegymiso were made between August 10, 2017 and December 31, 2020. Yet we found no sign of these in the official abortion statistics for Ontario released from the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI).

And the 45,363 does not include women receiving Mifegymiso in hospitals or prescriptions paid in cash or by another insurance rather than OHIP.

A final and outrageous fact is that a small study, ostensibly undertaken to prove Abortion Pill Reversal does not work ended up proving that it does and yet the authors had the audacity to claim the opposite of their results.

The study was abandoned because the Mifepristone caused extremely heavy bleeding in three participants, two of whom were in the placebo group and had not been given progesterone. The woman who had the progesterone did not experience such traumatic bleeding.

This study also proved that the progesterone protocol actually had an 80% success rate in maintaining the pregnancy in women who received progesterone without the second abortion drug and a 40% success rate in those who received both abortion-inducing drugs.

We believe that women who decide to have an abortion do not give up their right to the truth. Why does “choice” always have to mean abortion?

Below is Alliance for Life Ontario's petition to Health Ministeer Patty Hajdu (click HERE to sign it):

To Health Minister Patty Hajdu:

Whereas: Women deserve a second chance at choice, and

Whereas A 2018 peer reviewed study showed positive results for Abortion Pill Reversal, establishing its effectiveness 64%-68% of the time, its safety for women; no increase in birth defects, and a lower preterm delivery rate than the general population, and

Whereas 2,000 pre-born children’s lives were saved in 2020 by Abortion Pill Reversal, and

Whereas Women who decide to have an induced abortion do not give up their right to the truth, and

Whereas, we know of at least 9 Canadian babies who are living today because of the abortion pill reversal procedure, and

Be it resolved that, any Canadian woman requesting Mifegymiso, must be provided Abortion Pill Reversal Procedure contact information, should she wish a second chance at choice after beginning the Mifegymiso abortion procedure.

Biden admin admits it tells Facebook what to censor: ‘They’re killing people’

'We're flagging problematic posts for Facebook that spread disinformation.'

WASHINGTON, D.C., July 19, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki admitted Thursday that the Biden administration has been telling Facebook what posts it wants taken down, inadvertently giving potentially significant ammunition to a legal recourse for online censorship that conservatives only recently began exploring.

The Daily Caller reports that during Thursday’s press conference Psaki called on Facebook to release “data on the reach of COVID-19 vaccine misinformation,” to “create a robust enforcement strategy that bridges their properties and provides transparency about the rules,” take “faster action against harmful posts,” and promote “quality information sources in their feed algorithm.”

But the most eyebrow-raising portion of her remarks was her confirmation that “we’re flagging problematic posts for Facebook that spread disinformation.” Facebook declined the Caller’s request for comment on the revelation.

Psaki doubled down the next day, declaring that anyone banned on one platform for spreading medical “misinformation” (which in practice simply means dissenting from the official positions of federal health agencies) should be banned on other social networks as well:

President Joe Biden weighed in himself later Friday, stating bluntly that his message for Facebook is that “they’re killing people”:

“The only pandemic we have is among the unvaccinated,” claimed Biden, and then repeated, “they’re killing people.” The U.S. government stopped counting “breakthrough COVID” cases – cases of infection in a person who is considered “fully vaccinated” against the coronavirus – when the numbers exceeded 10,000 and the deaths among the fully vaccinated from COVID-19 hit 535.

The revelation that the federal government is actively encouraging private entities to suppress speech has deeply alarmed many conservatives and some libertarians, while others have noted that Psaki’s comments may actually create new challenges for Facebook in its impending legal battle with former President Donald Trump.

Earlier this month, Trump announced he would be the lead plaintiff in a class-action lawsuit against Facebook, Google, and Twitter, seeking the restoration of his and other social media accounts plus punitive damages. Among his arguments will be that Big Tech has effectively been “illegally deputized as the censorship arm of the U.S. government” (the conservative legal nonprofit Center for American Liberty is currently suing Twitter on similar grounds, for collusion with the state of California).

On July 11, author Vivek Ramaswamy argued in the Wall Street Journal that this argument has a sound basis in Supreme Court precedent that government “may not induce, encourage, or promote private persons to accomplish what it is constitutionally forbidden to accomplish” (Norwood v. Harrison, 1973), and that state-issued immunity (such as the controversial Section 230), threats of prosecution or “adverse regulatory action,” “willful participa[tion] in joint activity,” or even just “significant encouragement” can suffice to turn private censorship decisions into the functional equivalent of state action.

On Thursday morning, UCLA law professor and prominent libertarian Eugene Volokh wrote that while the claim could theoretically survive, he considered it a “long shot” because it was “unlikely that Trump can provide” enough “powerful evidence of government coercion” to prove it.

But Psaki’s latest comments may have gone a long way toward providing that evidence.

Devotion to the Brown Scapular: A Message of Urgency

July 20, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — In the Old Testament, Elijah asked God to reveal Himself. God told him to meet Him on a mountain, and there He would reveal Himself to Elijah. The prophet witnessed a fierce wind, and then an earthquake, and then fire, but God was in none of those. He was in a small, still whisper. When the Blessed Mother needs to capture our attention, sometimes she is quiet, sometimes she whispers, and other times she drops breadcrumbs that look more like baguettes.

Last year, after encountering a series of what seemed to be never-ending roadblocks, I decided to double down on my devotion to the Blessed Mother. Led by instruction on spiritual warfare by Father Chad Ripperger, I carved out time for the recommended 33-day preparation for St. Louis de Montfort’s total consecration to Jesus through Mary. I had attempted it 25 years ago, but I never got through it. From the manner in which some people in Catholic circles described it, you would think it was like climbing Mt. Everest, but it was actually astonishingly beautiful and sweet.

After my consecration on May 31, the Feast of the Visitation, I noticed a calming sense of peace and relief because I knew that I truly belonged to Mary. I stopped frowning about circumstances beyond my control, and I knew Our Lady was directing me because I transformed my dismal attitude about many matters that made me feel unhappy. It was not about sloppy things suddenly becoming neat and easy, or having my prayers answered instantaneously. Rather, I was learning how to “Joan-up.” It wasn’t about “me” anymore, and I understood that maybe that recurring dream I kept having about showing up for class on the last day to the final exam, only to realize I had skipped the entire semester, may be about unused gifts and wasted time worrying about when God would finally answer that one prayer.

Along with total consecration was the ongoing spiritual formation, which included adherence to our Lady’s request at Fatima to make reparation for the grave offences and sacrileges committed against God and to prevent Russia from spreading her errors throughout the world. The primacy of her message was given witness by a great solar miracle and was intensified by a warning that if her urgent plea for prayer and penance was ignored, and the Holy Father did not consecrate Russia to her Immaculate Heart, Russia would spread her errors throughout the world, and the world would experience a great chastisement. But in the end her Immaculate Heart will triumph, the Holy Father will consecrate Russia to Her Immaculate Heart, and the world will experience a period of peace – but not before suffering the great chastisement, which at the time of the apparition could still be averted. She said the cup was already running over – 104 years ago.

With the ominous state of our country and our Church worsening, I renewed my commitment to intensify my response to the request she made during the last of the six apparitions, on October 13, 1917, when she appeared to the three shepherd children as Our Lady of Mount Carmel holding a Brown Scapular. I knew I needed to make a concerted effort to attend Mass on Saturdays. I was praying my daily rosary, and I practiced fasting.

There was just one thing missing: the Brown Scapular.

Wearing the Brown Scapular was something I struggled with for many years. I often wondered if the priest had officially invested me in the Brown Scapular when I made my first Holy Communion, and I would dismiss the prompting to wear it with the promise to wear it as soon as I got enrolled for certain. Unlike religious devotionals to which a priest can extend impromptu blessings, in order to for you to receive Our Lady’s promise, a Catholic priest first has to “vest” you in the brown scapular and the recipient must fulfil certain conditions such as wearing it continuously, observing chastity for one's state in life, and saying five decades of the Rosary daily.

The mystery of the invisible face

The first nudge that I should put the scapular back on came from my coworker, Mary Rubines, who wears her scapular every day. Last week she shared an intriguing account about something that had occurred the previous day when she was having her new photo ID taken. The administrator had been taking photos of employees all week without any issues, but this time she could not take a photo because of an unusual error message. The system detected two faces!

The only other image of a face near Mary was her photo ID on the lanyard hanging below her waist, but she removed it anyway. The error message continued. Reluctantly, Mary removed her scapular, which was laying closer to her neck, to see if it could have been interfering with the transmission. Her photo was then taken without any issues. Both Mary and the administrator agreed it was strange, and the administrator reminisced about the scapular her grandmother wore every day until she died.

Although the incident remains a mystery, I would be remiss if I did not point out the possibility that Our Lady was making a discreet yet powerful statement about the Brown Scapular, which some have referred to as her personal relic.

The following Sunday at the Traditional Latin Mass at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Coral Gables, FL, Monsignor Oscar Castaneda urged everyone, “Wear the Brown Scapular and never take it off!” My mom and I exchanged that “we are so busted” look as though we had just been caught cheating on a test. Then I grabbed the two brand-new brown scapulars I had been carrying inside my purse and draped them over our heads. We have both gone through several scapulars over the last 30 years, but we stop wearing them when they break or begin to interfere with our outfits, mostly due to our sins of vanity.

Later that week, I encountered a post on Instagram about the Brown Scapular. It was the first post in my feed, and the first comment I saw was from a young woman who said wearing the Brown Scapular changed her life. This was the third lightning bolt in a week about the Brown Scapular. I asked her to message me, and she gave me permission to include her testimony with the caveat that she remained anonymous; she wanted the focus to be on the scapular and not on her.

The young woman explained that she was very far from being a true Catholic when a priest asked her to wear the Brown Scapular and observe the necessary dispositions and prayers to receive the Sabbatine privilege of being saved from Purgatory the first Saturday after death.

The young woman said that she wore the scapular for six months without any feeling towards it. Then on July 16th, 2017, the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, while praying at the Shrine of St. Charbel, my correspondent started crying tears of repentance. She looked at the Tabernacle, and told St. Charbel, “I need to confess; I did a mortal sin. Please, St. Charbel, help me to have the courage to confess and send me a priest. I will close my eyes and open them. Please send me a priest [of your choice].”

When she opened her eyes, the young woman saw a priest directly in front of her. She said she needed to confess right away, and he said, “Of course.” The young woman began to confess to the priest, and then she began to hear what she described as an interior voice telling her, “That’s not everything.” It brought to mind all of the sins she had committed since birth. After 45 minutes, she left confession feeling dizzy, and it took several minutes to remember where she was.

“I have literally experienced a second birth,” she said.

“I am living proudly for Jesus. I dress modestly, I pray, confess, go to mass, and read the bible like a real Catholic. Mama Mary saved me! Glory to God! Now I ask every person I meet to wear the Brown Scapular, the Scapular of Salvation.”

The next day, my 28-year-old daughter was visiting, and I was wondering how I could approach her about wearing the scapular. One of her issues is that she is athletic, and we live in a tropical climate, so I was afraid she would not wear one. When my mother walked in the room holding up the medal form of the scapular that I had lost soon after my cousin gave it me in 2017, I was stunned. I shared all these stories with my daughter and draped the medal scapular over her head as though she had just finished her first marathon. Note the medal privilege is only for those who could not conveniently wear the cloth Brown Scapular, such as those in the service of their country, those in boiler rooms or similar workplaces, and citizens of tropical countries.

Now literally dazed, I reached out to other devoted Catholics about the Brown Scapular, and I realized that I am not alone. Many Catholic women struggle with wearing the scapular.

Traditional Catholic millennial Tatyana Talamas said her parents raised her with a devotion to the Brown Scapular, but she never wore it around her neck because she was concerned with the look.

“I would keep it tucked somewhere discreetly, but then I did some research and thought I should actually wear it,” said Tatyana, who began making scapulars as Christmas gifts for her family.

“Because it is a sign that you are always thinking of the Virgin Mary, that motivated me even more to wear it visibly.”

Tatyana shared how the Brown Scapular dates back to Mount Carmel and the Holy Land. It is very interesting that when the Blessed Virgin appeared in Fatima, during the cosmic solar phenomena of her last apparition, she appeared as our Lady of Mount Carmel.

Tatyana also noted with delight that the Carmelite order, which started in Palestine, was the first Marian Order. The Carmelites tried to stay in the Holy Land, but Muslims persecuted them and they ended up in England, thanks to St. Simon Stock. Tatyana describes the Carmelite spirituality as climbing Mount Carmel and achieving spiritual illumination and union. Once you reach that mountain, you feel like you are in the line of the prophet Elijah.

“I guess I am a Carmelite at heart,” Tatyana said.

“Every time I put [the Brown Scapular] on I kiss it, and there is an indulgence [attached].”

There is a litany of testimonies about miracles associated with the Brown Scapular, but this one from my friend Tim Gavin of Toledo fell in my lap the other night. He recalled that his third-grade teacher, Sister Mary Maurice, told his class a miraculous story of a US army veteran who had been shot in the chest during WWII. The bullet hit the scapular and tore it but did not go into his body.

The power of the Brown Scapular is also powerfully expressed through the often-shared story that devils told Francis of Yepes, the brother of St. John of the Cross, that three things especially tormented them: the Holy Name of Jesus, the Holy Name of Mary, and the Brown Scapular.

"Take off that habit which snatches too many souls from us," they shouted at Francis.

“All those clothed in it die piously and escape us."

I have prayed diligently for discernment about whether or not to share these accounts. Perhaps it's just the frustrated would-be screenwriter in me who cannot help but reflect in wonderment on the final scene of 1989 sports fantasy “Field of Dreams.” Did Our Lady synchronize the events over a two week period so I could get the word out, or were they just for me?

As the feast day of Our Lady of Mount Carmel on July 17 has just passed, there is a time-sensitive opportunity to proclaim her message of urgency: Wear the brown scapular and never take it off.

I did not know that the rosary and the scapular are inseparable. I thought I did everything I needed to do to be totally consecrated to Jesus through Mary, but no. There was one more thing: the Brown Scapular.

The Brown Scapular - Don’t be Caught Dead Without One

Steven Kerekes, a father of nine, began wearing the Brown Scapular when he was 18 because he was working in a high-risk position on a ship in the Balkan sea off Alaska. His chronic experience with broken scapulars led him to start making durable scapulars with merino wool and para-military cord, and so he founded Scapulars.com, an online company that exclusively manufactures and sells scapulars.

While his cautionary tagline, “Don’t be caught dead without one,” gets Our Lady’s message across powerfully, he prudently juxtaposes it with a potent caveat – “The Brown Scapular is not a get-out-of-Hell-free card.”

“There is a dual-sided promise. The Brown Scapular should serve as an exterior sign of interior fidelity... a sign of your consecration and dedication to Our Lady, a choice to live for Christ through Mary’s help. A silent prayer, it serves as a daily reminder to clothe yourself, literally and figuratively, in the virtues of the Faith,” Kerekes said.

Matthew Mangiaracina and his wife Lia pose for a photo after their wedding on May 7, 2017. The couple chose the date because it coincided with the centennial of the first apparition of Our Lady at Fatima. After a four-day visit to the hometown of their patron, St. Gianna Beretta Molla in Magenta, Italy, they ended their honeymoon by attending the historic celebration in Fatima, Portugal.

Matthew asked Lia if she would wear the Brown Scapular when they began dating. “I knew about it, but Matt is the one who put it back on the radar,” Lia said. Lia believes the scapular should not be worn like jewelry, but in certain circumstances it cannot be hidden, and we should never be ashamed of our expression of faith and devotion to Our Lady.

The role of isolation and past trauma in drug addiction.

July 19, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – When assessing the economic and healthcare impacts of the coronavirus, we often fail to recognize the massive collateral damage from the long months of lockdowns, business closures, anxiety and fear that spread across our nation in 2020.

According to the latest Center for Disease Control and Prevention data:

  • From January to December 2020, there were 93,331 drug overdose deaths

  • An average of 256 Americans died every day from drug overdoses — the most in U.S. history.

We were told by our leaders that mask wearing and social isolation of the young and healthy, as well as the medically vulnerable, was essential to curb the spread of the virus.  But did we fail to take into account the ongoing cost of this disruption in normal human, family and community relationships?

Author Johann Hari spent close to four years and traveled 30,000 miles crossing the globe to learn more about the problem of drug addiction. He shares about his experience in the book Chasing the Scream: The First and Last Days of the War on Drugs

Hari discovered the quality of human relationships is a key feature in the development of addiction. Healthy, happy people bond with other humans. But if you can’t do that because you’ve experienced trauma and abuse, and you can’t trust people, you are more vulnerable to bond with a drug instead.

Hari writes:

What I learned is that the opposite of addiction is not sobriety…The opposite of addiction is human connection [my emphasis.] And I think that has massive implications for the war on drugs. Our laws are built around the belief that drug addicts need to be punished to stop them. But if pain and trauma and isolation cause addiction, then inflicting more pain and trauma and isolation is not going to solve that addiction. It’s actually going to deepen it.”

Is Hari’s premise too simplistic?

As many as two-thirds of all individuals with addictions experienced some form of trauma during their lives. Addiction experts tell us that these individuals may model their substance abuse and self-medication for the symptoms of their trauma, on behaviors they observed in loved ones while growing up.

My professional social work career has focused in the last 20 years on helping women and men find spiritual and emotional healing after a painful abortion loss, in a ministry outreach called Rachel’s Vineyard. Most women and men suffer in isolation, and are reluctant to share about their abortion experience with others.

One of the common ways people cope with the complicated grief and the confusing feelings and memories of the abortion event, is the abuse of alcohol and drugs (and/or other addictive or compulsive behaviors.)

I spoke with my colleague in Rachel’s Vineyard, Susan Swander, who personally experienced both addiction and abortion loss, and asked her what she thought of Hari’s ideas about addiction.

Susan shares:

It's my belief (based on my research and reading) that alcoholics and addicts are biologically different. I believe there is a physiological/chemical difference in our bodies.

I think Hari's statement about the opposite of addiction being human connection is too simplistic. Once the disease is triggered, it is true that a sort of love affair with the substance of choice can very easily develop.

But in terms of my own abortion experience, many of us arrive at an abortion clinic with our substance friend in hand. Many of us can't make that decision without the “strength” of our friendship. I often wonder if I had been a sober young woman, would I have gone through with that first abortion?

My abortions did not cause my alcoholism. But my friend Wild Turkey made the pain of that trauma easier to deal with. I had to get sober (for 19 years) before I was able to face the trauma of my abortions. My third and last abortion happened when I had been sober for six years. [1]

Addiction after the abortion

Jason’s abuse of drugs and alcohol, began after he failed to prevent the death of his child from abortion.

The following is an excerpt from Jason’s full story that can be found in my book Tears of the Fisherman:

I left the Air Force in 1993, returned to my home town and got a job in retail. I soon ran into Andrea, a childhood friend whom I hadn’t seen in years. Andrea and I started hanging out together and our relationship quickly became sexual. I bonded well with her daughter Kelly and before long we decided to get an apartment together.

It didn’t take long for me to realize I enjoyed family life, so I asked Andrea to marry me, and she agreed. We didn’t make much money, but I worked hard to support Andrea and Kelly and was getting frequent promotions at work.

A few years later I came home from work and Andrea told me she was pregnant. I was thrilled! Kelly was almost three years old and now she’d have a baby brother or sister. I told everyone in my family and at work that I was going to be a daddy.

At first, Andrea seemed happy about the pregnancy. But after a few weeks, things started to change…Our discussions turned into arguments…Every time I tried to plead with her to keep our child, she would tell me it wasn’t my decision…that it was her body and her choice. I even offered that if she just had the baby, then I would raise it on my own…

It was on February 25th, 1995 that my life changed forever. Andrea had gone to the clinic and had the abortion while I was at work… The last thing I remember after hearing the news was lying in the parking lot of a bar screaming at the top of my lungs. I have no recollection of how I got home or how many days passed before I moved back in with my parents.

After this traumatic event Jason began abusing drugs and alcohol to cope with his traumatic loss and later was hospitalized. After much suffering, Jason learned he was not alone, and began to educate himself about abortion-related trauma and resources for healing. He attended a Rachel’s Vineyard healing weekend for abortion loss and was able to begin a journey to recovery. (Jason’s full story is here.)

Abortion and disconnection

It seems likely that some who struggle with addiction have a genetic/biological vulnerability to what unfolds as a disease process. Abortion is often part of their story, and like Susan, the healing of that loss can be part of their journey from addiction to sobriety and recovery.

For others, like Jason, the experience of abortion is a traumatic event in their lives, and a complicated experience of loss, one they are unable to process and integrate into their lives in a healthy way.  This can trigger the abuse of alcohol, drugs, food, pornography, extra-marital sex and other self-destructive behaviors as a way to self-medicate for their pain.

While women and men have different ways of processing and expressing emotions and grief, the heart of abortion healing touches upon something that Johann Hari discovered from his travels around the world: the importance of healthy human connection in the healing of broken relationships.

The healing of abortion loss often requires a unique treatment process, such as the program developed by Theresa Burke, Ph.D., Rachel’s Vineyard. [Theresa has developed another program for those who have suffered sexual abuse and other traumatic events called Grief to Grace.]

Rachel’s Vineyard and Grief to Grace are very effective healing programs that enable the participants to safely access their complex and often deeply painful feelings. They find a safe, spiritually positive healing environment, loving support, and people who intimately understand their loss.

For the first time they are able to work through the pain, as they travel to what is at the heart of the healing journey for those with abortion loss – discovering and reclaiming their connection as a mother or father to their aborted child or children.

For some women and men, reestablishing this connection is a pivotal moment in reducing, and eliminating, unhealthy relationships with drugs, alcohol or behaviors that they used to cope in the past.

Here we go again?

As of this writing, the recent surges in some areas of the “Delta Variant” of the coronavirus are leading some government leaders to reconsider lockdowns and masking for their communities. Hopefully, given the record number of overdose death in 2020, and other economic and psychological consequences of shutting down our economy and schools, our politicians and government officials will proceed with caution, learning from our past experience.

Community leaders must take reasonable steps to protect our most vulnerable citizens.  But we must also carefully consider the overall impact of lockdowns and masking for those who are at low risk for serious complications from the virus.

Endnotes

1] Susan story touches on the fact that close to 50% of abortions are repeat procedures.  Theresa Burke, Ph.D., writes in her book Forbidden Grief that without an emotional and spiritual healing of the initial experience of abortion, women are vulnerable to repeat painful elements of that abortion experience, and go on to have multiple procedures.

Kevin Burke, LSW, is a pastoral associate of Priests for Life and co-founder of Rachel’s Vineyard. An expert on men and abortion loss, he is the author of Tears of the Fisherman and co-author of Rivers of Blood/Oceans of Mercy.

How should we continue after Traditionis Custodes?

This legal decree is an expression of fear, the fear that in free circumstances a form of liturgy could be preserved and even expanded in the younger generation (priests and laity)...As martial as the decree of law comes across, it is a sign of weakness.

July 19, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – As a priest born in 1967, who has never celebrated the Extraordinary Form of the Holy Mass and who, because of his rather sober character, has no intention of ever doing so, it is perhaps easier than those directly concerned to give an assessment of the situation that has arisen following the publication of the motu proprio Traditionis custodes of July 16, 2021.

This legal decree is an expression of fear, the fear that in free circumstances a form of liturgy could be preserved and even expanded in the younger generation (priests and laity). The legal text is at the same time the admission that the liturgy created after Vatican Council II has apparently not sufficiently reached the hearts of the faithful, so that many and more and more want to return to a form that is not only intellectualistic, but also gives a spiritual home to the reasons of the heart of which reason knows nothing. As martial as the decree of law comes across, it is a sign of weakness. It proves against its own wishes that serious mistakes were obviously made in the reform of the liturgy after Vatican II and that one must now try by force to prevent its definitive derailment. It seems to be a bad state of affairs for the reformed liturgy if one thinks that one has to protect it in this draconian form.

This decree definitely makes the celebration of the Eucharist – “the source and summit of the whole Christian life,” Lumen Gentium 11 – a battleground, the heart of Christian life, of all things. For this legal text, in its rigidity, after all that has happened in the last 50 years, is so hurtful and humiliating for those involved that it can only provoke resistance, hopefully peaceful and spiritual, and different from the spirit of exclusion and hardening by which it is generated.

The banishment of this form of the liturgy from parish churches, where in some cases it had been peacefully at home for decades, means giving an incentive for an Underground Church of a new kind. One should have learned by now what the consequences of abrogating edicts of tolerance can be. The split brought about by the decree will first be a local one. However, since the faithful of different liturgical forms will now meet even less physically, there will subsequently be an increased social, pastoral, and even ecclesiological segregation of the faithful. Moreover, chapels will not be available everywhere. There will not always be enough space in such churches, which are by nature rather small. Holy Mass will most probably therefore be celebrated more often in private houses, in secret, in profane halls. The spirit of conspiracy thus fostered will all the more give rise to conspiratorial groups.

It will be difficult in the future for those concerned not to live in hardening. Guidance could therefore be a letter sent by the Prophet Jeremiah to the people who had been led into Babylonian captivity. They are words of wisdom and foresight, in the face of humiliation and exclusion: “These are the words of the letter that the prophet Jeremiah sent from Jerusalem to the remaining elders among the exiles, and to the priests, the prophets, and all the people, whom Nebuchadnezzar had taken into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon. (...). Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, to all the exiles whom I have sent into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon: Build houses and live in them; plant gardens and eat what they produce. Take wives and have sons and daughters; take wives for your sons, and give your daughters in marriage, that they may bear sons and daughters; multiply there, and do not decrease. But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.” (Jer 29:1,4-7)

In his work Zeitfragen und christlicher Glaube (“Questions of the Time and the Christian Faith”) (1983) Joseph Ratzinger remarked on this letter of Jeremiah that it was “by no means an instruction for action for political resistance, for the destruction of the slave state.” And the later Pope commented on the letter in this way: “It is rather an instruction for the preservation and strengthening of the good. It is thus an instruction for survival and at the same time for the preparation of the better, the new.”

July 19, 2021 (Duc in altum) – Dear friends of Duc in altum, Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, taking a cue from my article While the Pope is in the Hospital, sent this contribution which I share with you here. We thank the archbishop, and, in his words, “we pray with humility, asking the Holy Spirit to give us strength in the moment of trial.”

In hac lacrimarum valle

~

Dear Dr. Valli,

I was moved when I read your reflections on the state of the Church and on the “migration” of Catholics from a dying reality to a new, more combative and guerila dimension, as you wrote, using an image taken from a well-known radio meditation given by the young Joseph Ratzinger.

This “migration” is not a migration out of the Mystical Body to a human and utopian reality created in the minds of those who lament the loss of the past and are disgusted with the present. Because if this were our temptation, we would be committing a betrayal of the Church herself, separating ourselves from her and thus precluding our salvation, which She alone ensures to her members. Ponder that paradox, dear Aldo Maria: precisely those who proclaim that they are proudly faithful to the immutable Catholic Magisterium would thus be constructing a [false] oasis, without recalling that we are all exsules filii Evae, and that we make our way across this vale of tears gementes et flentes.

The Church is not over and will not end. We know that this terrible crisis, in which we are witnessing the obstinate demolition of the little that still survives that is Catholic by those whom the Lord has established as Pastors of His Flock, marks the sorrowful Passion and Descent into the Tomb of the Mystical Body, which Providence has ordained must imitate its Divine Head in everything.

So it also happened under the dark sky of Jerusalem, on Golgotha, when, seeing the Son of God lifted up on the Cross, there were those who believed that the brief parenthesis of the Nazarean was over. But along with those who – out of pessimism, fear, opportunism, or open hostility – cynically observe the death rattle of the Church, there are also those who groan and have their hearts rent open before that agony, even as they know that it is the necessary, indispensable premise of the resurrection which awaits Her and all of Her members. The death rattle is terrible, just like the Lord’s cry that pierced the unbelieving silence of the Parasceve, and with it the dominion of Satan over the world. Eli, Eli, lamà sabactani! We hear Christ cry out, while the Church groans. We see the spears, the clubs, the reed with the sponge soaked in vinegar; we hear the vulgar insults of the crowd, the provocations of the Sanhedrin, the orders given to the guards, the sobs of the pious women.

Behold, dear Dr. Valli, today we must stand at the foot of the Cross as we witness the Passion of the Church. To stand means to remain upright, still, and faithful. Along with Mary Most Holy, the Sorrowful Mother – stabat Mater dolorosa – whom the Lord gave to us as our Mother right at the foot of the Cross in the person of Saint John, thereby making us, along with the same Beloved Disciple, children of His Mother. Even in the agony of seeing the pains of the Passion renewed in the Mystical Body of Christ, we know that with this last solemn ceremony of time, the Redemption is brought to completion: accomplished by the Incarnate Son of God, it must find its mystical correspondence in the Redeemed. And just as the Father was pleased to accept the Sacrifice of His Only-Begotten Son to redeem us miserable sinners, so he deigns to see the sufferings of the Passion reflected in the Church and in individual believers. Only in this way can the work of the Redemption, accomplished by Jesus Christ, true God and true man, in the name of humanity, make us cooperators and participants. We are not passive subjects of a plan of which we are unaware, but rather we are active protagonists of our salvation and the salvation of our brothers, following the example of our Divine Head. It is in this that we may say that we are effectively a priestly people.

In the face of the desolation of these terrible times, in the face of the apostasy of the Hierarchy and the agony of the ecclesial body, we cannot be truly pessimistic or yield to despair or resignation.

We are with Saint John and the Sorrowful Virgin at the foot of a Cross on which the new High Priests spit, against which a new Sanhedrin curses and swears. On the other hand, we recall that the leaders of the priestly class were the first ones who wanted to put Our Lord to death, and so it is not surprising that in the moment of the Passion of the Church it is precisely they who mock what the blindness of their soul no longer understands.

Let us pray. Let us pray with humility, asking the Holy Spirit to give us strength in the moment of trial. Let us multiply our prayer, penances, and fasting for those who today are among those who brandish the whip, press the crown of thorns upon the head, drive in the nails, and wound the side of the Church, just as they once did with Christ. Let us pray also for those who watch impassively or look the other way.

Let us pray for those who weep, for those who hold out a handkerchief to wipe the disfigured face, for those who carry the Cross for a while, for those who prepare a tomb, wrappings for the body, and precious balm. Exspectantes beatam spem, et adventum gloriae magni Dei, et Salvatoris nostri Jesu Christi – Awaiting the blessed hope, the coming of the glory of the great God, and Our Savior Jesus Christ (Tit 2:13).

Reflections on the Traditional Latin Mass and the new motu proprio Traditionis Custodes

France – eldest daughter of the Church – was where resistance against the modernist liturgical revolution was strongest from the start, and flourished.

July 19, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – I grew up in the West Indies and South America where modern liturgy was being “tested” even before the Novus Ordo was forced on all Catholics in 1969. It was only at age 12, in 1975, that I truly “discovered” the Church’s ancient and solemn traditional Mass at a Dominican boarding school in France. Since then, apart from a few incursions into “Paul VI” Masses when no others were available, the Tridentine Mass became part of my life, a haven of beauty, coherence, and reverence where one does not feel cheated out of the very substance of one’s faith by cheap, unwholesome, facile liturgical nourishment.

It was a time when we often made do with barns and garages and unlikely makeshift chapels, bearing the contempt of apparently brainwashed Novus Ordo priests who looked down on our “outdated” Latin mutterings and our refusal to go with the times.

But France – eldest daughter of the Church – was where resistance against the modernist liturgical revolution was strongest from the start, and flourished. Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre played a fundamental role, but he was not alone. The Barroux Benedictine monastery, headed by Dom Gérard Calvet, the pilgrimage of Chartres co-founded by Bernard Antony, still very active, the traditional Catholic press were all part of the great battle to preserve “the Mass of always.” I was privileged, from 1987, to work for more than 25 years for the daily co-founded by Jean Madiran, whose founding call to Paul VI took the form of an open letter in 1972 in which he proclaimed: “Give us back the Scriptures, the catechism and the Mass.”

“Since October 1958, the death of Pius XII,” Madiran wrote in 1974 in his Reclamation to the Holy Father, “modern apostasy, no longer sufficiently countered in the Church, has gradually gained a right of citizenship. Since October 1962, when the Council was opened, an avalanche of solemn ambiguities from on high has methodically disoriented the faith and hope of the faithful. Since 1969 (the official transformation of the liturgy took place on the First Sunday of Advent of that year), there is no longer any doubt that we are in the presence of a deliberate system of destruction of the Church, imposed by a faction which, camped out like an army of occupation, holds under its sway the hierarchies and administrations of the Church militant.”

I remember his profound spiritual joy when Summorum Pontificum came and crowned the work of his life.

My husband, Olivier Figueras, was bathed in the combat for Catholic tradition from birth. His father, André Figueras, was a French polemicist, a member of the French resistance: he became a staunch anti-Gaullist and a prolific writer who converted late in life after having been a cultural traditional Catholic for many years, and after his other son entered the traditional monastery of Le Barroux to become a monk and a priest.

Who is Pope Francis punishing?

Pope Francis indicates that this concern, and the desire for measures such as those he has adopted, has been expressed by bishops responding to the survey on the implementation of Summorum Pontificum which the Congregation for Divine Worship carried out in 2020. This is very surprising, since those who had sight of the results consistently reported that a great many bishops were positive about the place of the Old Mass in their diocese.

July 19, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – In his Apostolic Letter Traditionis Custodes and its covering letter, Pope Francis is introducing stringent new restrictions on the celebration of the ancient Latin Mass, now called not the Extraordinary Form but simply the 1962 Missal or “earlier Missal.”

Pope Francis writes, in the letter, that the use of the 1962 Missal is

often characterized by a rejection not only of the liturgical reform, but of the Vatican Council II itself, claiming, with unfounded and unsustainable assertions, that it betrayed the Tradition and the “true Church”.

Even the French bishops, whose rather negative collective response was leaked, had to acknowledge many positive aspects of the phenomenon, and concludes that “if it [Summorum Pontificum] honors a principle of reality, then a tireless work of unity is always necessary.” What the French bishops had in mind, to assist this “work of unity,” was things like reconciling the calendar and lectionary, issues which Pope Francis has not broached.

Wherever Pope Francis has received this idea about Latin Mass celebrations, the important question is whether it is true. Now notwithstanding that one can find on social media individuals (in some cases, individual robots) representing every possible version of extremism, the reality of the priests and faithful attached to the 1962 Missal is completely at odds with the picture painted in this Apostolic Letter. This can be seen both in the context of the ordinary pew-sitters, and of the leadership of the movement, both clerical and lay.

Catholic congregations are, or should be, fairly diverse. Some Catholics are immature, because some Catholics are literally children. Some Catholics are a bit grumpy, because they’ve had a bad week. This is true of those who go to all kinds of Mass. But in my experience of the Traditional Mass in a wide range of places, the great majority, if not necessarily the noisiest, of the people there, simply find in it spiritual consolation. If their association with it is of long-standing, they may have received treatment from priests and bishops which is less than one would hope and expect from a spiritual father. But the ones still at Mass are the ones who have not reacted with bitterness about the Church as a whole.

They are served by diocesan or regular priests, and by priests of the traditional institutes. The kind of language quoted above is completely alien to these men, who, like the laity, are the ones who have not abandoned their vocations, as tragically so many priests have over the years, or left the obedience of their bishop or superiors. In any case, if an individual priest was problematic in this way, it would be a simple matter for the bishop to remove him from pastoral ministry: Pope Francis does not need to give anyone special powers or instructions to make that solution possible.

What of the lay leadership? Certainly, there are lay people behind social media accounts who say all sorts of things, but their claim to represent the ordinary faithful who attend the Traditional Mass is not based on anything but notoriety. Most Catholics, like most human beings, are not deeply invested in social media celebrities. There are genuine home-grown representatives of the lay movement in support of the ancient Mass, and they are found in the Una Voce movement. This movement, however, is absolutely not guilty of saying the kinds of things which Pope Francis suggests.

As the Chairman of the largest of these Una Voce groups, England’s Latin Mass Society, and simultaneously the Secretary of the International Federation of these groups, the FIUV, I have written many tens of thousands of words on behalf of them, on matters connected with the liturgical reform. I can say emphatically that those involved at a senior level, and the great majority of our supporters, are absolutely opposed to language of this kind. We have endlessly based our arguments on the documents of the Second Vatican Council and of the post-Conciliar Popes, and our entire reason for existing is to persuade our bishops, officials in Rome, and the Holy Father, to allow us to attend the older Mass. This would obviously be completely pointless if we thought that the bishops, the curia, and the Papacy belonged to a “false Church,” whatever that might mean.

The gross injustice and incoherence of the claim that the movement which has been trying, for fifty years, to maintain the legal recognition of the ancient Mass by the Pope and by the bishops of the world, actually rejects the authority of the people to whom it ceaselessly appeals, should be evident to any fair-minded observer.
