(LifeSiteNews) — Dissident Catholics are predictably furious with the Trump administration for withdrawing from over 60 leftist international organizations that force the United States to support globalist and eco-socialist initiatives.
In a statement provided to heterodox, pro-LGBT media outlet National Catholic Reporter recently, Bishop A. Elias Zaidan alleged that the decision will “have painful and direct repercussions on the lives of vulnerable populations and God’s creation already suffering from a changing climate.”
Zaidan chairs the USCCB’s Committee on International Justice and Peace, which is essentially a front group within the U.S. Catholic Church whose sole purpose is to support liberal causes.
Zaidan was joined in his outrage by the Catholic Climate Covenant and the North American chapter of the “Laudato Si’ Movement.”
Sounding more like a United Nations document, their hyperbolic joint letter predicts nothing but calamity: “Climate change, ecological degradation, environmental disasters, forced migration, water scarcity, and biodiversity loss do not recognize national borders.”
Trump’s decision to jettison the agreements is part of a larger re-orientation of the U.S. away from internationalism and towards a more hemispheric, America-first doctrine. This new approach is reflected in the administration’s National Security Strategy, which was published late last year.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who is Catholic, defended the administration’s decision with a press release titled “Withdrawal from Wasteful, Ineffective, or Harmful International Organizations.”
In it, Rubio rightly complains that, “what started as a pragmatic framework of international organizations for peace and cooperation has morphed into a sprawling architecture of global governance, often dominated by progressive ideology and detached from national interests.”
Rubio continues: “From DEI mandates to ‘gender equity’ campaigns to climate orthodoxy, many international organizations now serve a globalist project rooted in the discredited fantasy of the ‘End of History.’ These organizations actively seek to constrain American sovereignty. Their work is advanced by the same elite networks – the multilateral ‘NGO-plex’ – that we have begun dismantling through the closure of USAID.”
Contrast those piercing remarks with the following comment from Bishop Zaidan: “We remain steadfast in our support for these multilateral organizations and international cooperation to care for our common home.”
The dynamic vision for the future world order envisioned by the Trump administration is a stark contrast to the antiquated 20th century outlook promoted by churchmen under Pope Leo XIV.
Consider that last year Leo offered the first “Mass for the Care of Creation,” a concoction of his predecessor Francis. In July, Leo told French boy scouts that the earth is our “common home” and that people need to have an interior “conversion” so they will care for the planet. In October, Leo blessed of block of ice during a bizarre ceremony at Castel Gandolfo. At the event, he spoke about a supposed need to listen to the “cry of the earth.” Leo later sent a message to a U.N. conference on “climate change” stating, “If you want to cultivate peace, care for creation.”
Former Apostolic Nuncio to the U.S. Archbishop Carlo Mario Viganò has paid close attention to these developments. In a statement last July, he charged that the Mass for the Care of Creation is “yet another confirmation of the disturbing subservience of the Catholic Hierarchy” to global elites.
Christ “granted Peter the power of the Holy Keys not to pass judgment on the climate – in accordance with a scientifically untenable theory – but rather to guard and transmit the Depositum Fidei, to shepherd and protect the Lord’s Flock, which today is threatened in body and soul by an elite of dangerous, psychopathic criminals bent on evil,” His Excellency exclaimed.
Viganò also had choice words for Leo’s remarks about conversion. “There is no need for an ‘ecological conversion,’ especially when it constitutes a sentimental and chimerical palliative to a true conversion of hearts to Our Lord Jesus Christ, the only Savior,” His Excellency said. “This ‘ecological conversion’ deliberately lends itself to fueling a materialistic and horizontal vision of Religion, completely alien to the Gospel and the Catholic Magisterium. Ratifying it with a liturgical rite exposes the complicity of the Catholic Hierarchy in the subversive plans of the New World Order, to the detriment of the faithful and all of humanity.”
Problematically, the cardinals themselves – at least the leftist ones – happily support the aims of liberal internationalists. Just days after the conclave last May, Cardinal Blase Cupich of Chicago told CBS News the following: “There is, I think, a fresh moment for us to examine, what are the human dimensions of immigration? How do we see global warming impacting us? How the issues related to the sufferings of humanity should impact all of us and make all of us aware and participate in solutions … I think [Leo’s] going to be a voice for all of those things, simply because we’re talking about, in many ways, the survival of the human race.”
And this is precisely what has unfolded over the last eight months, is it not? Alarming to say the least.
