A man who stood by his beliefs no matter what, [Rice] respected those who opposed him, and the feelings were mutual. Never one to shy away from a fight, Professor Rice was willing to take on the difficult battles for what he knew to be the truth.

Of brain death and climate change

The semantics of brain death don’t lend themselves very well to deliberation without constant clarifications and re-definition of terms. ‘Life support’ is a good example. Think about it: If a person is dead then what purpose does ‘life support’ serve?
