When the story about Pope Francis’ remarks confirming the existence of a ‘gay lobby’ inside the Vatican were leaked one month ago, LifeSiteNews.com delayed reporting the revelations due to the impossibility (at the time) of confirming the accuracy of the pope's remarks.  We did of course follow closely the developments and would like to propose a hopeful thought that could serve as a possible positive interpretation of what the pope said.

After numerous confirmations, it is safe to assume that Pope Francis did acknowledge the existence of a ‘gay lobby’ in the Vatican, which would come as little surprise to LifeSiteNews readers.

One of the first questions though in many minds at the time was ‘well why talk about it, rather than just deal with it?’

And that brings me to the hopeful thought.  What if the Pope knew very well his remarks would be made public. What if it was a non-official way of making a statement about something? And what if he wanted to give an indication to the faithful that he knew about a bad situation and he is going to deal with it?

Here was the full excerpt of what the Holy Father is reported to have said from the first English-language source of the quotes:

And, yes… it is difficult. In the Curia, there are also holy people, really, there are holy people. But there also is a stream of corruption, there is that as well, it is true… The “gay lobby” is mentioned, and it is true, it is there… We need to see what we can do…

The reform of the Roman Curia is something that almost all Cardinals asked for in the Congregations preceding the Conclave. I also asked for it. I cannot promote the reform myself, these matters of administration… I am very disorganized, I have never been good at this. But the cardinals of the Commission will move it forward. There is Rodríguez Maradiaga, who is Latin American, who is in front of it, there is Errázuriz, they are very organized. The one from Munich is also very organized. They will move it forward.

Pray for me… that I make mistakes the least possible…
