So I was grimacing my way through ABC’s totally unbiased investigation piece about Mississippi’s last abortion clinic, which has been on the verge of being shut down for months because it is in violation of the state’s new law that requires abortionists to have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital.
You know the stuff. The show quotes the abortionist at length talking about his “deep Evangelical faith” and how it was a Martin Luther King speech about the Good Samaritan that convinced him to do abortions in Mississippi. It explains how he has been “overwhelmed by the compassion” he feels for his client. And then it gives a cursory nod to impartiality by allowing the pro-life side enough space for a few passing remarks carefully cherry picked to make them sound as extreme as possible, after carefully linking them by association with violence and terrorism.
All par for the course for mainstream media reporting on abortion. So far, so good. But then I hit on a line that was so beyond the pale that it literally made me laugh out loud:
Anti-abortion advocates who protest outside of the clinic argue that there is nothing safe about abortions, and say they are outraged that people like (abortionist) Parker won't concede the basic biological fact that if the fetus is left unimpeded, a baby will be born.
Outraged, I tell you! Outraged!
There were two things that made me laugh: 1) the childishness of ABC’s blatant misreporting of what the pro-lifers said, and 2) the images that popped into my head of what the pro-life movement would look like if we talked the way ABC thinks we do, or should.
Here are a few slogans we could put on our signs or shout at our rallies:
– “Abortion impedes fetuses!”
– “An unimpeded fetus, not a choice!”
– “Stop impeding fetuses…they just might become babies!”
– “Equal rights for unimpeded fetuses!”
And when we see abortionists we should call them “Unimpeded fetus impeders.” That will really sting their consciences.
It’s absurd, of course. The fact is, in all my years as a pro-life activist, I have never, ever heard a pro-lifer say anything about impeding fetuses. And I highly doubt that the pro-life activists outside the Mississippi clinic were the first to do so.
No, what they actually said was that they were outraged that abortion supporters refuse to acknowledge that human life begins at the moment of conception, and that abortion kills a human being.
That’s a “basic biological fact” that any biology textbook will confirm. So, what does it say about ABC that they are so afraid of this truth that they would rather twist it beyond any hope of recognition, just to make sure that their readers don’t even have to think about it?
Indeed, the whole pro-abortion movement is propped up by this one, monstrous, laughable lie: that a human being with the full gamut of human rights magically “pops” into existence at the moment of birth, and that before that he or she is a nebulous blob of tissue without any intrinsic value.
This ABC piece shows to what absurd lengths abortion supporters will go to perpetuate this ignorance in order to protect their beloved “right” to kill their unborn children.
