Help canceled priests secure a place to live: LifeFunder
(LifeSiteNews) — Father John Lovell, co-founder of the Coalition for Canceled Priests, was kind enough to join me on today’s episode of The John-Henry Westen Show.
Today we discussed why bishops target certain faithful priests for “cancellation” and how getting canceled deeply affects them in several ways.
Even as a seminarian, Father Lovell was found to be “too conservative” by the Archdiocese of Chicago, which is why he ended up in the Diocese of Rockford.
But even there, Bishop David Malloy targeted him for the same reason and eventually removed Father Lovell from active ministry. Over the past decade he’s been fighting to restore his good name.
“Bishop Malloy has removed over 12 priests that have no accusation, no allegation against us. And he just simply removed us because we’re not ‘yes men,’ or we’re too orthodox or too conservative,” he said.
Priests who get canceled unjustly, Father Lovell added, often don’t know where to turn because the harsh treatment comes as a complete shock.
“Just an hour ago, I was speaking to a priest who is in the process of being canceled. And he told me, he says he’s suffering from post-traumatic stress,” he said. “And that’s what I think happens to many of us, because we just kind of go into shock. They cut our pay. Sometimes they don’t give us any pay. They cut off our insurance, possibly. This is what’s happening across the board.”
Father Lovell is also working diligently to secure a home for unjustly canceled priests by purchasing and restoring an old Franciscan friary in Indiana. But he very much needs our help in raising the necessary funds. Click here to visit LifeFunder and send a secure donation to give our mistreated, holy priests a place they can call home.
