April 23, 2019, LifeSiteNews — Mayor Pete Buttigieg announced to the world that he and his “husband,” Chasten, plan to “have a child.”
“We're hoping to have a little one soon,” said Buttigieg, just one day after officially launching his presidential campaign.
Pundits and social media swooned over the possibility of gay dads raising cute little babies and toddlers in the White House, yet the announcement was far from a surprise.
Once Mayor Pete’s presidential campaign took off, of course his advisers were going to tell him to obtain one or more photogenic children, because Americans like to have their presidents be family men.
Others criticized the announcement of an implied future surrogacy contract.
‘Buying and selling human flesh’
“Who will speak out against this buying and selling of human flesh?” tweeted Catholic author and commentator Leila Marie Lawler.

Lawler expanded on her tweet in a Facebook post, saying:
Buy a baby.
Use a woman's body as if she is a piece of machinery, to rob a child of his mother.
Commit acts of degradation to bring a child into the world as an orphan.
The world of even 25 years ago would have retained some shred of justly offended sensibility at the hint of this crime against humanity.
Now we smile along with him.
Shame.
‘No one thinks of the kids anymore’
Katy Faust, founder of Them Before Us (TBU), an organization that seeks to place children’s rights and best interests above those of adults, tweeted about the media’s unquestioning welcome of Buttigieg’s announcement:

I’m hoping that the Mayor Pete is an intellectually curious soul and that he is will willing to weigh his own interests against the interests of any child he might obtain.
Before purchasing an egg from one woman and renting a womb for nine months from perhaps another, the Mayor and his partner need to do some serious research.
Children need and deserve to to be raised by their biological parents. They don’t need to two parents of the same gender, no matter how loving, how famous, or how wealthy those parents are.
The gay ‘Parent Trap’
I suggest that the mono-gendered Buttigiegs begin by watching the Disney remake of the movie The Parent Trap, in order to see how children deprived of a relationship with either their mother or father continue to hunger for their missing parent, no matter how celebrated, wealthy or loving their household is.
The twin girls separated at birth (both played by Lindsay Lohan) lead enviable fairytale lives.
One girl, Hallie, lives with her dad in California Wine Country, has everything a young girl could want: a beautiful hillside mansion with a swimming pool and stables, situated in the middle of Napa Valley. She has a handsome dad who is a fabulously successful vintner. In short, she has everything, but she still yearns for the mom that has been denied her.
The other, Annie, lives in a mansion in a posh London suburb. Her beautiful mom is a world-famous dress designer. She has servants to wait on her and a chauffeur-driven Rolls-Royce at her disposal. Yet Annie likewise yearns for the dad that has been denied her.
Viewers watching the film, the majority of whom enjoy far less material wealth and security, feel sorry for the girls because both are missing a parent. This irony is precisely the point of the movie, and it applies to all gay and lesbian households.
We didn’t need you after all, Mom.
The Mayor and Chasten also need to set aside some time to read the three amicus briefs written by adult children of gays and lesbians submitted to the U.S. Supreme Court during its deliberations on the Obergefell case. The three friend of the court briefs tell the true stories of the real longing of children raised in gay and lesbian households for their missing mother or father.

I can’t imagine that either Peter or Chasten Buttigieg could’ve easily done without their own moms, but choosing to “have” a child with no mom involved is tantamount to proclaiming exactly that: “Mother Buttigieg and Mother Glezman: Your services as a parent weren’t all that necessary. We don’t think our future child requires the sort of love and care you gave either of us.”
Who are the real victims? Gays, or their children?
“In the gay marriage debate, adults were framed as victims,” noted Faust, writing at Public Discourse. “While it’s true that many LGBT adults have experienced struggle and loss, the real victims of the marriage and family battle are children. Too often, victories for adults cost children their fundamental rights.”
“When we get the victims wrong, our personal choices and national policy will be wrong too.”
A gay president obtaining children via surrogacy sends the wrong message
My former colleague, Ana Samuel, academic director of CanaVox, recently wrote an open letter to Pete Buttigieg, titled A Message to Mayor Pete from a Latina Mama: Don’t Force Your Sexual Ideology on Me and My Children, after he suggested that those who fail to support LGBT ideology are bigots:
Amigo, I’m sorry, but these are the truths of nature. Hijacking nature with cutting edge technology may sound attractive to those who can afford the niceties of upper-class life, but not to those working to meet their basic daily needs. …
You play the victim card, but it’s well-off same-sex couples who can afford to cushion themselves and their children from the costly effects of the progressive sexual lifestyle. You can redirect your children’s attention away from the gaping absence of a mother or a father towards a good education, nice clothes, memorable experiences, and recreation. However, your lifestyle cannot be sustained by millions of people who make less money than you. The mothers in my circles know this, and we care about those poor children — and their mothers and fathers, too.
The wisdom of Solomon
It is now well documented that Candidate Buttigieg is not afraid to appeal to his Christian faith and to the Bible when it is advantageous to do so.
Before making a rash decision about obtaining a child, Buttigieg should read 1 Kings 3:16-28, the story of the two women who went before King Solomon after both claimed to be the mother of a child.
When Solomon suggested that their dispute could be settled by splitting the child in two, the real mother recoiled in horror and asked the king to give her son to the other woman who had laid claim to him in order to save his life.
She put her child’s life ahead of her own interests.
