August 26, 2016 (LifeSiteNews) – One of the most widely read websites in the LGBT movement is holding up Communist China as a model for America in the contentious debate over multiple-gender restrooms.

Dawn Ennis (who was born “Don”) says that the United States should be more like Beijing in an article titled “Most populous nation on earth adopts ‘all gender’ public toilets” posted Thursday on LGBTQNation.com. He writes:

Without a single protest, boycott or lawsuit, China’s capital city has rolled out a transgender-affirming program to highlight nearly two dozen single-use, gender-neutral bathrooms that have been serving Beijing since May.

Ennis might be surprised how many government initiatives take place without any protests in China, especially since that unpleasantness in 1989. And every year since.

Even the American Family Association would have a hard time getting a million-plus people to sign an online petition thanks to China’s internet censorship, known as “Golden Shield.” Of course, the nation suppresses all dissent, arresting 245 lawyers and activists between July and October last year alone. Only a handful of them, like Chen Guangcheng, are known publicly. And the Chinese government still performs an unthinkable number of forced abortions every year.

Still, Ennis is happy about their restroom policy:

Unlike the backlash that ensued when Target announced its bathrooms were open to everyone according to their gender identity, local officials have not encountered any opposition, even though the government does not recognize transgender as a valid form of identity.

It’s chilling that Ennis believes Americans should be as restrained in our First Amendment rights – such things as protests and boycotts – as mainland China.

There is another reason these restrooms have not produced much feedback, aside from the threat of death or banishment: The policy isn’t exactly as significant as Ennis’ headline implies.

According to my B-average in public school algebra, two dozen single-use restrooms might not be enough to serve a nation of 1.35 billion people without a line.

By contrast, Target’s still-inadequate restroom policy applies to 1,800 locations in a nation one-quarter China’s size. That’s to say nothing of President Obama’s attempt to force every school, university, and workplace to allow any man who says he’s transgender to use the women’s facilities – or even stay overnight in the teenage girls’ hotel room while never telling their parents. Ennis need not be befuddled that a more egregious policy, plus a lack of government-backed repression and system of forced labor camps, yields a greater backlash.

Ennis includes a revelatory quotation in his piece, as well:

“Our main goal with this project is to raise public awareness of gender diversity and equality issues,” said Martin Yang…the program’s founder [who] represents the Beijing Gender Health Education Institute.

In China, nothing happens spontaneously or without permission (one of the key marks of a totalitarian entity). The Communist Party has made the destruction of the family one of its goals from its earliest days, and continues today with its embrace of the redefinition of the family unit. Dr. Paul Kengor describes the process exquisitely in his must-read book Takedown, which details “how the Left has sabotaged family and marriage.” It simply switched tactics from economic to cultural Marxism. Beijing’s seal of approval means that The Party’s apparatchiks have realized gender chaos serves its goals. This should serve as a warning siren to anyone concerned about the well-being of the family (which should be everyone).

Ennis concludes by noting that China still considers being transgender a mental disorder – but not that the American Psychological Association continues to list “gender dysphoria” as a condition in need of psychological treat5ment in its most recent Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5). Some things are still universal.

It’s tempting to dismiss this article as the misguided ravings of a fringe outlet, but that would be a mistake. The website is one of the most widely trafficked in the world. In fact, according to Alexa.com, it’s almost as popular as LifeSiteNews.

And Ennis, a former producer for ABC News, helped shape the news that influenced millions of Americans every evening.

The article should also serve as a reminder of the importance of finding insightful, engaging, and perceptive analysts who give you the truth.
