(LifeSiteNews) — MS NOW host Katy Tur was stunned by U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson’s statement at Sunday’s national prayer event, “Rededicate 250,” that our rights do not derive from government but from God.

“What about this passage from Mike Johnson declaring that our rights do not derive from government? ‘They come from You, our Creator and Heavenly Father.’ Is this him putting God over the Declaration of Independence?” asked Tur of secular panelists McKay Coppins from The Atlantic, Democrat strategist Basil Smikle, and New York Times religion reporter Ruth Graham.

Speaker Johnson was simply quoting the Declaration of Independence, a fact that was lost on Tur.

“God talk is SO foreign to MS NOW,” declared MRC Newsbuster’s Executive Editor Tim Graham.

“Wow. Newsflash to MS Now,” wrote Johnson, responding to the now-viral clip on X. “The 2nd paragraph of the Declaration literally proclaims the self-evident truth that our rights come from our Creator.”

Popular online conservative commentator Greg Price said this is “Truly the MSNBC clip to end all MSNBC clips.”

“Wait until Katy Tur and MSNOW hear about this…” read a Heritage Foundation post, showing a picture of the Declaration of Independence prominently inscribed in the walls of the Jefferson Memorial in D.C.  Jefferson was the primary author of the historic declaration.
