NEW YORK (LifeSiteNews) — New York Attorney General Leticia James swears that she is not “engaging in some sort of political witch hunt” against former President Donald Trump and that “It is not true” that she’s “got some personal vendetta against him.”
Despite her polite-sounding protestations, James, who has served as AG for the State of New York since January 2019, clearly campaigned for office promising nothing less then all-out war against the then-Republican president.
In a short video montage shared on X/Twitter, Eric Trump has easily demonstrated the James’ mendacious claim:
This is the corruption my father and our family is fighting in New York! The system is weaponized, broken and disgusting pic.twitter.com/ds6PkXDNjd

The video begins with James calmly saying, “The President of the United States has complained that I’m engaging in some sort of political witch hunt. That I’ve got some personal vendetta against him. That I campaigned against him. That is not true.”
It then launches into a rapid-fire litany of very public campaign proclamations by James, beginning with James declaring that Trump is an “illegitimate president that sits in the White House.”
- “That president because he’s not my president. He’s a (sic) illegitimate president.”
- “His days are numbered. His days are numbered.”
- “We’ve got to get ready to mobilize, and we’ve got to get ready to agitate and irritate until victory is won, but more importantly, until Trump is defeated.”
- “We will all rise up and resist this man. And ultimately will bring him down.”
- “ … this illegitimate president. I’m going to give you the same level of respect that you gave to President Obama, and that is absolutely no respect at all.”
- “Donald Trump has got to go. Hey hey! Ho ho! Donald Trump has got to go! Hey hey! Ho ho! …”
- “The days of Donald Trump are numbered.”
And then perhaps most revealing of all, James used her megaphone to whip the crowd into a frenzied chant: “Lock him up! Lock him up!”
While she now denies that she campaigned against Trump, the exact opposite is true: James “made it clear that Trump would be her top target” while running to be New York’s Attorney General.
Evidence of her years-long animosity toward Trump is everywhere.
“He should be charged with obstructing justice,” James said in September 2018 after winning the Democratic nomination for New York AG. “I believe that the president of these United States can be indicted for criminal offenses. We will join law enforcement and other attorneys general across this nation in removing this president from office.”
“It’s important that everyone understand that the days of Donald Trump are coming to an end,” she added.
The Washington Times’ Rowan Scarborough later called James’ speech her “anti-Trump manifesto.”
During a November 2018 celebratory speech after her election in New York, James said that Trump “stands as an affront to all that I believe in” and is “someone we must keep in check by the long arm of the law.”
“We will use every area of the law to investigate President Trump and his business transactions and that of his family as well,” the Democrat told NBC News a few weeks later.
“James is now part of an energized group of Democratic attorneys general who have turned courtrooms across the country into battlegrounds against the president’s agenda on immigration, sanctuary cities, the environment and health care, to name a few issues,” a Washington Post report noted in December 2018.
It’s not a stretch to say that James’ seething hatred for Trump serves as the Id of the increasingly woke neo-Marxist Democratic Party.
“They’re acting like the Soviet communist party in the city of New York, in the state of New York, where they go after politicians and former officials they don’t agree with,” radio talk show host Mark Levin asserted in 2021.
“They’re digging into his tax returns. The they’re threatening his longtime financial officer [Allen Weisselberg],” Levin ai. “The feds already investigated Trump. Clean. Now the politicians, the Democratic Party in New York and the state. You have an attorney general who is a complete hack, Letitia James. She came into office saying she was going to go after Trump.”
“I want the American people to understand. They are trying to drag this president, our President Trump, in front of this grand jury. A Democrat Party, Democrat city, Democrat state, to find something, anything they can use against him because they don’t want him to run for office again and they are trying to destroy him,” Levin added.
After James obtained a ruling against Trump at the end of September, American Thinker’s Andrea Widburg, an attorney, wrote, “Everyone understands that this verdict is … a joke. It’s a purely political hit job that has nothing to do with Trump’s business practices and everything to do with stopping his 2024 presidential run.”
NY AG James: Pro-lifers are ‘terrorists’
James’ deep-seated animosity extends beyond Trump to the pro-life community.
This summer, the American Freedom Law Center (AFLC) filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against James for unlawfully, falsely disparaging peaceful pro-lifers as “terrorists.”
“It is my duty and my honor and my responsibility to keep individuals safe from terrorists, and that’s what they are,” she said in reference to a Red Rose Rescue.
One of the plaintiffs in AFLC’s lawsuit, Monica Miller, a co-founder and spokesperson for Red Rose Rescue, told LifeSiteNews that James’ “terrorist” claim is a “total propaganda lie – born from sheer pro-abortion politics.”
“Those who participate in Red Rose Rescues are quiet, loving and completely peaceful,” Miller said in a statement.“Terrorism doesn’t save babies from abortion – love saves babies from abortion – and Red Rose Rescuers are committed to acts of love.”
