There's a growing push for government-run daycare in Canada, particularly right now in the provinces. In Ontario, for example, the Liberals recently launched a full-day kindergarten program for four-year-olds.

It's not on the federal agenda at the moment but it surely will be in the near future. Before Stephen Harper's Conservatives took over in 2006, the Liberal Party was set to launch a massive nationalized program. But Harper replaced it with the Universal Child Care Benefit when he came to power, giving families $100 per month for every child under six. That puts the funds in the hands of families so they can choose for themselves how to use it to raise their children. We can be sure that as soon as the Liberals or NDP form government, daycare will be back on the federal agenda.

In the video below, Brian Lilley of the Sun News Network makes the case against government-run daycare.
