The real horrors of abortion are only truly known by the women who have been through one themselves. Most of us, though we are surrounded by the stories and fight for the truth, have not once in our lives considered having an abortion ourselves. However, there are women who made the choice to go through the procedure and years later, regret the choice they made.
Silent No More is a group of those women, and even men, who regret their abortions or, in the case of men, regret being an influence in the choice of abortion. Last week, I had the opportunity to hear a story from a woman of Silent No More who told her story to a group of students at Monmouth University.
Our speaker went though her whole story, her mistakes, her fears, her struggles, her repentance and her overcoming of the abortion. It had so many effects on her life. She turned to substance abuse and couldn’t find herself. Her identity became her abortion.
The students listened attentively without a sound. Many were deeply disturbed by the testimony. A girl next to me was almost in tears. After, another girl approached me and said “I want to do something. What can I do?” The story had obviously touched her and all she could think about was what we could do next to continue to inform and promote the truth. I encourage anyone who has the opportunity to listen to a post abortive woman share her story. It will stir your heart.
