Back when I was in college I watched Family Guy from time to time. I confess, I love Stewie. And the interaction between Stewie and Brian often had me in stitches.

But eventually the over-the-top offensiveness of the show got to me, and I haven’t watched it in years.

For the writers of Family Guy, nothing is sacred. Most of the time, that’s not a good thing. But at the same time, this attitude has the curious side effect of giving them the freedom to talk about certain “un-PC” topics that everybody else in the entertainment industry wouldn't touch with a 10-foot pole.

Such is the case with this old clip that a friend sent to me yesterday.

Click “like” if you want to end abortion!

What pro-life activists call the female “gendercide” is not a popular topic, because it’s an uncomfortable topic, especially for feminists. After all, how, as a feminist, do you go about defending your creed of unfettered abortion-on-demand, when abortion-on-demand is being used to literally eliminate members of the gender whose cause you profess to champion…for no other reason than that they belong to that gender?

Sex-selective abortion may be the ultimate misogyny, but for abortion supporters the problem of what to do about it is insoluble. For the most part, feminists have responded by circling the wagons, defending their sacred “right” to kill their unborn children even for reasons of sex-selection, and ensuring that as few people as possible know about the problem by never, ever, ever talking about it.

But the fact is, it is happening. All over the world, particularly in certain Asian countries with a cultural bias in favor of boys, millions of girls are being aborted every year simply because they are girls.

In China, the combination of a brutally enforced One-Child Policy (another horrific human rights abuse perpetrated against women that feminists, for all their talk about “reproductive freedom,” just can’t seem to bring themselves to talk about) and the cultural preference for boys has created the “perfect storm” for baby girls – leading to widespread sex-selective abortion.

This has resulted in a massive and ever-growing gender imbalance that has in turn spawned yet another human rights crisis that primarily victimizes women – an increase in sex trafficking to satisfy the appetites of men who are unable to find a wife, thanks to the demographic imbalance.

The Family Guy clip uses black humor to matter-of-factly acknowledge the reality of this human rights abuse. It might not be the ideal way to get people talking about the problem: but hey, if it works, who am I to complain? Spread it around, and use this blog to spark a conversation.
