A standing vote at report stage for C-389, dubbed a “bathroom bill” by pro-family leaders, is set for after Question Period on Wednesday, December 8, reports the bill’s sponsor Bill Siksay of the New Democrats.  It should come up around 3:15 EST.

The bill seeks to enshrine protections based on “gender identity” and “gender expression” in the Canada Human Rights Act and the hate crimes section of the Criminal Code.

Today’s vote was called for yesterday evening.  If they had agreed to a simple voice vote, and it passed, the bill would have been debated at third reading.

If the bill is passed at report stage today (which is expected) it will likely not be debated until late February or early March.

That is, unless the bill is killed by an election in the new year.
