Can World War III be stopped? Iran, Ukraine & the risk of global war

The wars in Iran and Ukraine are escalating, and Frank Wright warns they could spiral into a wider global conflict. Continued escalation carries enormous military and economic risks: higher energy and food prices, disruption to shipping and fertilizer supplies, and the possibility of a direct confrontation between NATO and Russia. British and European policy toward Ukraine, he argues, is unlikely to produce a military victory and risks drawing the United States more directly into the war.

The conflict with Iran is militarily unwinnable, with cascading consequences for the global economy, food production, Western military capacity, and international security arrangements. The costs are staggering. And yet, Frank suggests these same costs may eventually force governments toward de-escalation.

National interests and mutually beneficial relations, he predicts, will ultimately prevail over continued escalation, averting what he describes as the alternative of a global conflagration. The question is how much destruction will occur before reason returns. The warning is clear. The stakes are civilizational. And the time to de-escalate is now before the decision is made for us.
