Pope Leo’s trip to Spain will gather thousands of young people. But there will be no priests hearing confessions at the central venue. No absolution. No sacramental seal. Instead, lay men and women will staff “listening centers” where teenagers can share what they would normally bring to the Sacrament of Penance.

The organizers insist confession still exists — just at local churches, miles away. It is the same tactic communists used to close parishes: make attendance impossible, then blame the faithful. “We didn’t close your church. You did.” Now Rome says, “We didn’t eliminate confession. You just didn’t go find it.”

The panel raises alarms no one is asking: Will these lay listeners undergo background checks? Will they be trained to recognize abuse disclosures? Or will vulnerable young people pour out their hearts to strangers with no protection, no accountability, and no authority to absolve?
