For decades, the Catholic Church warned against modernism — calling it the “synthesis of all heresies.” The 1910 Oath Against Modernism was required of priests, bishops, theologians, and seminary faculty. It stood as a bulwark against the infiltration of worldly ideas into divine revelation.

Then came Vatican II. The Council opened a door to dialogue and engagement with the modern world. But in doing so, did it inadvertently open a door to something else?

This discussion examines the central tension in modern Catholic life: How can the Church engage the world without allowing the world to reshape or dilute Catholic doctrine? Evangelization requires dialogue — but dialogue has never meant allowing the world to determine the content of divine revelation.
