CRTC REVIEWING DR. LAURA FOR HATE CRIMES

OTTAWA, Apr 6 (LSN.ca) – LifeSite has learned that the Broadcast Standards Council of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) is reviewing 3 days of Dr. Laura Schlessinger’s December broadcasts to see if she committed a hate crime. Her comments, faithful to her Orthodox Jewish beliefs, favouring heterosexual marriage over homosexual cohabitation, have infuriated the homosexual activist movement. In the US, death threats by activists have caused Dr. Laura to cancel public engagements.

Canadian Broadcast Standards Council Executive Director Ann Mainville-Neeson told a homosexual activist paper that the CRTC has been dealing with the Dr. Laura issue for six months and “two Regional Councils were convened” over it. “We’ve received complaints about the show, especially about the gay and lesbian [content],” explained Ms. Mainville-Neeson. Regional Councils from Ontario and Atlantic Canada, each made up of 3 people from the general public and 3 from the broadcast industry, examined the complaints and the corresponding responses from broadcasters. Their joint decision will be released in mid-April. Included will be guidelines for Canadian broadcasters regarding what’s acceptable where Dr. Laura and her show are concerned. A decision against Dr. Laura could have serious consequences for the expression on Canada’s public airwaves of traditional religious beliefs on moral issues.
