LIFESITE SPECIAL ELECTION REPORTING

LifeSite has produced a page of all its recent stories on the current federal election, which we hope you will find useful. The page will be continually updated and you may wish to pass the address on to others.
See https://www.lifesitenews.com/interim/2000/election2000/electionne…

Also, more importantly, we hope to have our main election2000 page up later this evening. This will include evaluations of the candidates and Interim stories and analyses of the parties and party leaders. This special news service should assist voters to cast an informed decision on voting day. A large team of workers and volunteers has put in hundreds, if not thousands of hours, gathering this information over the past few weeks. The information will be updated daily until election day. If you have any further information to add, email [email protected] or call (416) 204-1687. You may also call that number for information about candidates. We will send an email broadcast when the Election 2000 page is up.

CATHOLIC ORGANIZATION’S CONTROVERSIAL CANDIDATE QUESTIONNAIRE

Catholic” CCODP Caught Pushing for Abortion Again

TORONTO, Nov 22 (LSN.ca) – The Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (CCODP), which was thrown into controversy recently over their $135,000 donation to the pro-abortion March of Women 2000, is in hot water again, this time for a controversial federal election candidate questionnaire. Sent to candidates, the CCODP questionnaire claims the authority of the Catholic Church, saying that it “is the official development organization of the Catholic Church in Canada established by the Canadian Bishops in 1967.” The letter notes also that the organization’s main work is attending to “unjust social, political and economic structures” in the Third World. The letter notes that a copy of candidate responses will be “circulated to those members of Development and Peace and other concerned Catholics in the riding in which you are running.”

JEWISH, MUSLIM, EVANGELICAL AND CATHOLIC LEADERS SPEAK OUT AGAINST ATTACKS ON DAY’S RELIGIOUS BELIEFS

OTTAWA, Nov 22 (LSN.ca) – The recent attacks on Stockwell Day’s Christian faith have generated a groundswell of reaction among Christians but also among believers of other religions. All across Canada Bible believing Christians have been outraged by the vilification of their religious beliefs by political leaders and the media. Liberal Multiculturalism and Status of Women Minister Hedy Fry topped off the week of Christian bashing saying that Day’s public mentioning of his belief that “Jesus Christ is the God of the whole universe,” was “an insult to every Muslim, Buddhist, Sikh, everybody else who believes in other religions.”

VATICAN SLAMS “DE FACTO” HOMOSEXUAL AND HETEROSEXUAL UNIONS

VATICAN, Nov 21 (LSN.ca) – In a 50-page document released yesterday by the Pontifical Council for the Family, addressed to priests and political leaders, the Vatican decries the legislative efforts to grant equal status to non-marital unions, including homosexual unions. The document promotes marriage between a man and woman as, “a free and permanent commitment to lifelong fidelity and mutual self-giving. It is that permanent bond, the document argues, that forms the ideal situation for child-rearing, and thus serves the public interest of society at large.”

EVANGELICAL GROUPS ELECTION INSERT SAYS ABORTION #1 ISSUE

OTTAWA, Nov 22 (LSN.ca) – The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada (EFC), a national association of 32 Protestant denominations representing some 3 million Canadians, has produced church bulletin inserts on voting in the upcoming election. “Going to the Polls” identifies the “Sanctity of Life as the number one “principle” which “should guide our reflection” as Christians in selecting candidates.”

The insert says on this topic:
“Our view of life is rooted in the belief that human beings are created in the image of God. We all have unique dignity and worth by virtue of our relationship to God. Life is a gift from God, which should be cherished. There is no such thing as a “useless” life because our worth is not determined by what we can do or the pleasure we experience, but rather by who we are in relation to God and to each other. We believe that human life must be valued, respected and protected throughout all its stages.”
