VATICAN, February 20, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Cardinal Francis Arinze, originally from Nigeria and currently the head of the Vatican’s Congregation for Divine Worship and the Sacraments, has warned that Europe must not impose population control on his native Africa.  “Europe must be careful not to impose demographic policies on African families, suggesting, for example, that they have not more than two children,” he said.

Zenit News reported on the comments made by the Cardinal for an upcoming meeting of church leaders from Europe and Africa.  Cardinal Arinze stressed that “The only key to resolving the problem of overpopulation is development.”  The meeting, “Africa and the European Union: Companions in Solidarity,” will take place Feb. 27-28 in Lisbon, Portugal.  See the full Zenit report at:  https://zenit.org/english/visualizza.phtml?sid=31593
