On Monday, New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson (R) signed into law a bill that makes “partial-birth”  abortion illegal unless a woman’s life is endangered or she is at risk of “great bodily harm.

American Life League reports that more than 200 doctors have signed ALL’s Declaration of Life —a document that affirms the abortifacient nature of the birth control pill, emergency contraception, Depo Provera and Norplant. Congressman Chris Smith addressed the Congressional hearing on the “1999 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices” saying that despite China’s human-rights abuses the Clinton administration continues bi-lateral agreements with the country. “China’s horrific abuse of women comes to the forefront,” said Smith. “Fifty-six percent of female suicides world-wide occur in China. That is roughly 500 women a day who choose to die instead of suffering forced abortions and manual labor thrust upon them against their will. This tyranny will continue as long as America turns a blind eye.” 

The US Presidential elections will see somewhat pro-life Republican George Bush square off against vehemently pro-abortion Democrat Al Gore since the other main contenders have dropped out of the race. Republican Alan Keyes, a solid pro-lifer, has said he would remain in the race.
