BUENOS AIRES, February 15, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Argentina’s Minister of Health, Gines Gonzalez Garcia, said he would like to see legalization of abortion in the country, according to a Catholic News Agency report.

“Yes, I believe abortion should be legalized,” he said in comments reported in Argentina’s “Page 12” newspaper this week. Gonzalez argues that legalizing the killing of an unborn child will reduce maternal and infant mortality.

He supports legal abortion for so-called “ethical and health reasons,” he added.

Garcia also recently spearheaded a campaign to distribute free condoms as a measure to supposedly reduce AIDS.

President Nestor Kirchner, although not publicly stating support for legal abortion, besides vetting Garcia, has also appointed a pro-abortion Supreme Court justice.
