NEW YORK, April 10, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) – British pop singer and homosexual activist Elton John endorsed Hillary Clinton for president at a benefit concert for her campaign held at Radio City Music Hall on April 9.

John, who proclaimed himself bisexual for eight years before renouncing bisexuality in favor of open homosexuality, claimed at the concert that the reason Hillary trails in the polls is because of America’s misogyny, or hatred of women.

“I’m amazed by the misogynistic attitudes of some of the people in this country,” said John. “And I say to hell with them …. I love you Hillary, I’ll be there for you.”

John highlighted his ties with the Clintons during the concert, calling the donation-driven event a “party for a good friend,” and asserting that “there is no one more qualified to lead America.”

“The reason I’m here tonight is to play music, but more importantly as someone who comes from abroad, and is in America quite a lot of the time (and) is extremely interested in the political process because it effects the whole world,” he said. “I’ve always been a Hillary supporter.”

Elton John has long-standing ties with the Clintons, having performed at the White House for President Bill Clinton and British Prime Minister Tony Blair in 1998. When Elton John entered into a same-sex civil partnership with his homosexual partner David Furnish in December 2005, former president Clinton reportedly sent a one-minute video of congratulations to John’s pre-wedding bash.

John has a long history of taking an anti-religious stand on issues of sexual morality. In May 2006, he publicly blamed the Catholic Church’s prohibition of contraception for the AIDS deaths of 60 of his friends. John has also endorsed a complete ban on religion, stating it “doesn’t seem to work.”

“I think religion has always tried to turn hatred towards gay people,” said the singer. “Religion promotes the hatred and spite against gays. But there are so many Christian people I know who are gay and love their religion  . . . From my point of view I would ban religion completely, even though there are some wonderful things about it.”

He went on to assert that organized religion turns people into “hateful lemmings.”

The move is typical of the Clinton campaign’s recent strategy to entice the gay vote to support Hillary’s bid for the presidency. Hillary has attempted to portray herself as more supportive of homosexuality than her rival, Barack Obama, in the weeks leading up to the closely-contested Pennsylvania primary. Hillary has promised to repeal the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy concerning homosexuality, given interviews with homosexual newspapers and appeared on the show of openly-gay Ellen Degeneres, all in a bid to gather homosexual voters to her banner.

Elton John’s endorsement, along with the $2.5 million he raised for the Clinton campaign, comes at a time when Clinton is struggling to keep up with Obama in the polls and in fundraising.
