Note: This video depicts the death of a newborn baby and may be emotionally difficult for some to watch.

Imagine going shopping for a coffin for your baby, even before he is born.

In 2009 that is what T.K. and Deidrea Lauxs had to do, after they learned that the baby they were expecting suffered from Trisomy 13, and that he would likely only live hours after birth.

Although doctors recommended abortion, the Lauxs’ decided instead to give their son, Thomas, a chance at life.

The brief five days of his life, including his final hours, were documented on video and with photos. The result is a heartbreaking tribute to Thomas, the struggles and triumphs of his parents, and a testimony to the goodness and power of choosing life even in the most difficult circumstances.

As Deidrea puts it: “We didn’t not terminate because we were hanging on to some kind of hope that there was a medical mistake or that there was going to some kind of medical miracle. We didn’t terminate because he’s our son.”

“When you make the toughest decisions, you can get the greatest joy out of those.”
