A video for World Down Syndrome Day: Being different is normal

  down syndrome

For World Down Syndrome Day last week (21st March), the Jérôme Lejeune Foundation launched, on social networks, a video for anyone to share: “Being different is normal”.

By drawing people’s attention to norm and difference, this video is a reminder that diversity is the only “norm” worthy of humanity. The apprehension of abnormality and normality is subjective and depends on each person’s vision. In reality, one can feel “normal” or “abnormal” depending on the context in which one finds oneself.

Broadcasting this video came as the continuation of the Jérôme Lejeune Foundation’s mobilisation for the World Down Syndrome Day. It carries on the exceptional day devoted to this pathology at the European Parliament on March 10th. The day was marked by Mr. Carlos Moedas, the European Commissioner for research, who again ensured all those present of his personal engagement concerning research for the benefit of people living with intellectual disabilities. With emotion, he also addressed Eléonore and Robin, two young French people living with Down Syndrome who co-animated the day: “You are extraordinary” “The only disability in life is the wrong vision one has of others”.
