WASHINGTON, D.C., November 8, 2016 (LifeSiteNews) – Twelve-term pro-life Florida Congressman John Mica has lost his bid for re-election against his pro-abortion challenger Stephanie Murray, who was endorsed by EMILY's List.

“This is a sad loss for the pro-life community,” Susan B. Anthony List said of the loss. “Congressman Mica has served 12 terms in the US House of Representatives, and has earned a consistent 100% pro-life voting record during his tenure.”

The pro-life group said Mica had supported “vital” pro-life legislation, including the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act among numerous others.

Mica was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1992 to represent Florida’s 7th Congressional District, which includes Orange, Seminole and Volusia Counties.

Murphy, 37, a political newcomer, is a business professor Rollins College and an executive at Sungate Capital, both in Winter Park, and former Department of Defense analyst, and she was also a last-minute entry in Florida’s 7th Congressional District.

Mica, 71, was well known for working to bring federal dollars into Central Florida for major infrastructure projects, and who had gotten at least 60-percent of the vote in every election since taking office, became vulnerable after redistricting of his precinct, and Democrats spent millions to defeat him.
